What's his story?
This is a basic backstory and may not contain some of the more in-depth parts of his past. These may be outlined in either his journal or in the little spoiler box beneath the texts.
- William "Mira'a" Harrowton is a particularly shy, timid male Miqo'te hailing from, well, Limsa Lominsa, although he's not a native there, having been born in Gridania, located in the Shroud, under one of the Keeper of the Moon tribes under the name of Mira'a Harruten. His clan moved to La Noscea when he was around two to five years old, the reasoning for his tribe moving to the isle of Vylbrand is... cloudy.
- Eventually, they integrated into society as a variety of jobs, some fishermen, some blacksmiths, others have taken to visiting the city-state itself to work there, but William stayed where he was, content, for the most part, although his curiosity for magic and the world at large was sparked by a dream he had when he was ten years old. He was wandering the forests, merely just exploring when he stumbled across an open clearing, a calming scene to be sure, as he stumbled across a field of fairies and, amongst their lot, was a Miqo'te, one who seems like one of the arcanists. He reached out to the male Miqo'te to lay a hand on him but, before he can even do that, the dream faded, and all that was left was a lingering sense of curiosity and wanderlust.
- He eventually began to make trips to Limsa itself, enrolling in the Arcanist's Guild when he was of age to do so and began to study the mysteries of the Aether, Arcanima, and the lot, his open mind aiding him in his attunement to the world around him. Soon enough, he was old enough to start going out and explore what Eorzea has to offer, much to the delight of his birth-mother, who had been worried that his timid nature would make him more of a stay-at-home type and believing that his wandering can do him some good.
- Now, he's an adventurer, and although he lacks in social skills and tends to be fearful, a burning sense of curiosity and his attempts at calming himself down helps keeps his fears in check.
- Eventually, due to reasons unknown, he faded from the eyes of the Eorzeans, but he eventually resurfaced as an adopted brother to the newcomer to Eorzea, one Sera Alzeni. His overall mood, disposition, everything, had taken a turn for the worse over the years he had gone missing with only a few people keeping him together, just barely.

Appearance & Personality
A Realm Reborn
- William tends to keep his head down low unless he's looking around, which he often does when he enters a new area. He has well-kept hair and wears glasses, having lost some of his sight after standing too close to a very bright light at one point. His wardrobe usually remains consistent between suns, or tends to. Bilauds are his favourite ones to wear, but he also has a soft spot for coats, too. They generally tend to come in his favourite colours; blue, green, or shades of purple.
- He's lived a rather quiet life, although hiding behind his books, and he tends to stammer when speaking. He's quite shy around strangers, and even acquaintances! He's never without something in his hands to fidget with, especially when the spotlight is on him, and eye contact is a bit of a problem for him, oftentimes looking past someone to avoid looking them in the eyes; it's not that he dislikes anyone, it's mostly because eye contact, to him, seems scary. When he warms up, though, he becomes a little bit more open, although still kind of reserved, eye contact is still a bit off but there's the rare occasion when he would happily look someone in the eye, but only if he really feels comfortable around said person.
- He tends to be very honest, seemingly incapable of lying, which can be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on situation. And, not only that, but if he really trusts someone, he'll confide in them, sharing his secrets and history rather openly.
- Outside of social situations, he tends to be a rather forgetful person, absent-minded even.
- And despite his quiet, timid nature, there's a rather vicious side to him, one that can be easily accessed by pushing his buttons too much or by harming those he considers to be his friends (or most women in general, thanks to his upbringing). When angered, he tends to explode, using whatever he has at his disposal to deal with the threat. However, he gives his target much prior warning before setting off, though, to give them a chance to back down, a necessity in a public place.
- To summarise, he's shy, timid, absent-minded, and has a bad temper when angered. He's also kind of childish at times, but that's a double-edged sword. He's kind, friendly, and sweet, who puts the needs of the people before his own, often to his own detriment.
Heavensward
- Ever since the disappearance of his wife, Mira'a has gotten more and more cynical and jaded with the world. Gone is the shy, naive hopeful that he once was. The stutter had faded, replaced only by his tone sounding so bored half the time. He no longer easily trusts people instead being replaced with an iron-tight unwillingness to part with anything that would potentially bring harm to him or his loved ones which, to him, happen to be everything, much to everyone's chagrin. However, earn his trust, as hard as it can be, and he may open back up.
Quirks
- William tends to have trouble with some words, often times slowly pronouncing them. It doesn't help that he's rather forgetful.
- He reacted coyly to being called 'cute' or 'adorable. Nowadays, this would be met with the equivalent of an exasperated sigh and eye roll.
- As stated above, he fidgets with things when he's nervous which is, to say, pretty much all of the time. The only times he doesn't do this is when he's pre-occupied with something already.
- He can be socially awkward at times due to the lack of proper socialisation when he was a kid. He'll try his best not to be awkward, though.
- While he may refuse to admit it, he may or may not be the one responsible for the clothing that his carbuncles wear, all of them.
Combat
- William isn't one for combat, but he knows how to protect himself in self-defense when the need arises. He has a very prodigious mind when it comes to magical prowess in general, although the arcanima is his main speciality, having studied it for years since he was a kit. He, however, lets his carbuncle, Emery the Emerald Carbuncle or Topery the Topaz Carbuncle, deal with most of his threats as he focuses on casting from afar. Needless to say, he's very easy to interrupt and panic due to his skittish nature, and sending even a hint of intimidation his way is enough to give him pause. As of late, he has grown out of his childish ways as a result of the fates being cruel to him, becoming a truly fearsome arcanist to be reckoned with. Emery and Topery, as one knows them, no longer exist, but, in their place, they bequeathed a litter of carbuncles, if they were actual living beings and not aetherial projections.
- There are about eight of them that he can potentially summon at one time, projected from the ruby jewellery that he wears on his person, each carbuncle persisting from his aether slowly drains away his stamina, hence, he can only comfortably keep two or three carbuncles active at one time. Each of them have their own personalities and names, and their own little costume that they wear, courtesy of a mysterious benefactor.
- His secondary skills spans the arts of conjury, one that he's been studying for a while now. He's shown some natural talent with using it, due in part to his familiarity with the arcanima aiding him to understand how conjury works. However, his conjury prowess is tied to his emotional state. If he's determined, there's nothing stopping him from throwing a cure one's way. If he's frightened, however, his healing becomes less strong. Essentially, in a way, positivity empowers him, while negativity, self-inflicted or otherwise, hurts him. It's a shame that he sometimes have self-doubts about his potential, due to him downplaying most, if not all, of his accomplishments.
- As for more material parts of combat, William cannot wield anything heavier than a staff for a good reason... he's practically physically weak. A stiff wind can easily knock him over if given the chance. He's tried to wield an axe for the Marauder's Guild when he was in his curious phase in the past. Needless to say, although some nervous chuckles from the other recruits there were had, he's hesitant to go back there, feeling like he's too weak for anything. Though this now no longer holds true, as recent physical training had helped bulk him up just a little bit, but the effects are very immediate.
- In short:
Physical Combat | |||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Lancer | As a magic user, he lacks simple basic training when it comes to being what one would call a disciple of war, his lack of training in balance and footwork, as well as his thinking doesn't get him very far. However, he's taken up training as a lancer under a trained lancer named Flynt Knoltros. Those who may know him and his current lack of physical strength may proceed to send the poor violet-haired boy their condolences. Strangely enough, the boy managed to work at his lack of physical strength and had become stronger because of it. Slowly, but surely, he's becoming a fairly decent lancer. |
Magical Combat | |||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Arcanima | He has a good number of years worth of study behind him, and he's learnt the basics of being an Arcanist. However, his arcanima studies don't just stop there, and he's recently taken to branching out, being drawn to other magical studies such as conjury and thaumaturgy. While he's still pretty young, he can stand with, at least, the best of them. Recently, he's been studying ways to neutralize the lethality of the standard arcanist spells by way of just using ink with a different recipe. Whether it'll work or not is not clear as of now. He has eventually mastered the arcanima, becoming a powerful carbuncle-based summoner. | ||||
Conjury | There's something about this particular line of magic that clicks with him, and he doesn't know what. Its powers and philosophy reminds him of a parental figure he once had, who had since gone missing. Nevertheless, his eagerness to connect with nature greatly aids him in learning the ways of conjury, as well as his familiarity with the arcanima. His nature, however, tends towards the healing side of the spectrum, meaning the other parts are weakened for it, and not to mention that his conjury prowess is also tied to his emotional state. | ||||
Thaumaturgy | He has trouble trying to understand thaumaturgy, drawing from his own Aether to cast spells when he doesn't have much physical endurance in the first place is enough to knock him out if he tries anything harder than a simple ice spell. Nevertheless, he's trying hard to learn it, perhaps there could be a workaround for such a thing? | ||||
Nymian Arcanima | He's currently in study of the Nymian ruins in La Noscea and is coming up with very little answers save for a piece of paper with writing that is purported to be from his father and a book with almost all of its pages torn out. Not only that, but he's currently considering multiple options; find someone with a flying machine or something that could fly to check out the floating isles, take the boat over to the palace in Upper La Noscea and explore it, or pursue the supposed journal entries apparently left by his father. He eventually learned about this artform of arcanima, although he passed it on to one of his carbuncles. |
Trade Skills
- ■ Fishing: He learned how to fish in his tribe when he was a little child. He sometimes went out on fishing trips with his mother down to Swiftperch just to spend time fishing together. He knows a bit about fishing and, although he doesn't claim to be the best fisherman, that's fine with. (Journeyman)

- ■ Order of the Twin Adder (Grand Company) - Associate - While not technically part of the Grand Company as an individual, the tribe he was born in had ties with the Twin Adder during their time in the Shroud. William did not receive a chocobo licence from this GC until he returned to Gridania at 17, two weeks after he started adventuring. While his FC is under the Twin Adder's banner, it only works rather loosely with them, hence still an associate.
- ■ Keeper Tribe - Shaman - Became a member of a keeper tribe when he disappeared from Eorzea. Potentially connected to Sera.

Hooks and What he's up to
- ■ Stuck for hooks? Well, uhm, you may have seen William from:
- ● Studying at the Arcanist's Guild, he's studied there for ten years, although he very much kept to himself, so, he'd be the weird shy kid, in that case.
- ● Around Western La Noscea, particularly Aleport and Swiftperch.
- ● The Drowning Wench in Limsa, most particularly tucked away in the corner, in the past, that is. He wouldn't be seen during peak times, though.
- ● Travelling
- ■ Currently, William is...:
