Mostly resembling her mother in stature, Yuel possesses slender features with a strong jaw and wide eyes. Her cheeks are lightly freckled. Despite her lack of interest in excelling at robust physical combat, Yuel gives into her vanity and keeps her body lean and toned. She focuses most of her muscle training on her core and legs to increase her agility.
Her father gifted her with deep obsidian hair that shines violet in the right lighting. Her ears are slightly pointed, but hardly noticeable unless one focuses in on them and catches her when she is not covering them with a hat or some sort of ornamentation. She spends time in the mornings meticulously applying winged eyeliner and dusting vivid maroon eyeshadow under her eyes which sometimes makes her appear sleepless or corpse-like. Depending on her mood, she may darken her lips to a dusky burgundy as well. Her right eye has a deep scarlet tone, the other a subtly lighter and golder ruby red.
Scars & Markings: She has few, if any, noticeable scars. All acquired from her love of heights and overzealous acrobatics. Most are shallow and can be spotted painted along her shins and ankles. She is hesitant to show these to others, though she admires those with scars.
When she is able, she travels to Coerthas to traverse the snow-capped mountains, leading to a meager compilation of scars from reckless-based injuries.
Voice: Yuel possesses her mother’s resonant sing-song voice but with a deeper, sharp flow in her intonation. She has a casual manner of speech, but hyper-corrects it when meeting new people. Her tone is typically reserved and calculated until she is comfortable.
Clothing: Her manner of dress is overstated and formal, but never apparently so. Every piece she wears holds a deep meaning to her and she spends a great deal of time and attention on her style. One will often catch her in deep reds or greenish-blues accompanied by golden accents. Customarily, she conceals a dagger under her clothing for personal protection, though, she isn't particularly adept in using it. Recently, she has been fortunate enough to travel to various cities across Hydaelyn and has adopted an extensive collection of fabrics and garments. Her wardrobe grows so rapidly, she is plagued by the paradox of storing such a considerable collection. She cannot find it in her heart to let go of any of her garments, leaving her guilty of hoarding apparel and accessories from her travels.
Yuel may come off as pretentious upon meeting her. She has a whimsical way of carrying and expressing herself. She is unaware of how to be vulnerable so she tends to be quite calculated and cunning under her obscure facade.
At her core, she is a softhearted idealist and carries a delicate optimism which she conceals under her sarcasm and astute disposition.
Yuel is fond of fine dry wines, but is blissfully unaware of her low alcohol tolerance. Though such an occurrence is rare, should she pass her limit, she either becomes a staunch revolutionary and ceaselessly rants about politics and her favorite authors, or a histrionic character who sloppily recites poetry or bombastic tales from history which may or may not be true. Overall though, she is reserved and selective around others. She has a passionate and at times harsh draw to justice. She is light on her feet and moves graciously, even when nobody is watching.
Yuel was born in the heart of Rabanstre during the Garlean occupation. Her mother, Baisha fought in the resistance. Baisha was a powerful witch who used power from ancient forces within the city and performed sacred dances and blood magic. Yuel’s father, Renault, was born into nobility in Ishgard and served as a dragoon. He abandoned his wife from an arranged marriage and young son after witnessing the brutal murder of his comrades by Dravanians. Finding the pain too deep to bear and unable to face the people of Ishgard again, he fled for Kugane where he opened a teahouse and bakery which was his true lifelong dream. Around the same time Renault established his new life in Kugane, Baisha traveled with a Garlean theatre company in hopes to sway people with the cause of the Dalmascan resistance through dance and storytelling. During one of her performances in a theatre in Kugane, she met Renault. Baisha lit a fire in him and he felt a draw to her and her cause he hadn’t felt since he first trained as a dragoon to protect Ishgard. He was completely enamored by her and brought her gifts, tea, and baked goods whenever she was in Kugane. She eventually returned his affections and they grew inseparable. Baisha kept her heart in the Dalmascan resistance and Renault followed her. Baisha’s pregnancy came as a bittersweet surprise to them as they felt ready for a family, but could not deny the apprehension of bringing a child up in a city falling to its oppressors. Though the city was afflicted by its colonizers, the magic and culture stayed alive to those who looked for it and Baisha tried to give Yu the best childhood experience she could. While she fought with the resistance, Yu learned to write, paint, garden, and sew when she was sent to Kugane with her parents for performances and to take classes with geiko. Baisha noticed Yu had similar magical abilities as she did and taught Yuel sacred dances that were passed down to her.
Displacement in Ishgard
The situation in Dalmasca grew more dangerous, especially for the resistance fighters and their families. Ren and Baisha fought tirelessly but found keeping their daughter in the city to be selfish and irresponsible as the situation grew bleaker. Yuel was spending more and more time alone in Kugane where she was safest. Baisha commanded Renault transport Yu to his homeland and keep her safe. Renault refused to leave Baisha's side but she protested and they compromised that he was to transport her to Ishgard and make certain she is taken care of and only then could he return and fight alongside Baisha. He secured a route back and was not greeted warmly by the community or his family. His mother and well known tragedienne, Myrtane, did not defend his honor as she admitted to finding his choices weak and displaying a lack of self-awareness but she warmly welcomed her granddaughter, Yuel into her lavish home. Renault left as soon as he was assured of Yuel’s safety to return to Baisha’s side and fight her war with her. He did not even visit his now deeply religious wife, Arette or teenage son, Yvain. Yuel is unsure of the fate of her parents but felt heartbroken upon hearing news of the Barheim incident and the city being flattened by Garlean forces. She recently returned to the remains of Rabanastre with treasure hunters and felt connected to her mother after witnessing all the power that lay beneath the ancient city.
The journey across the sea and subsequently through Eorzea, opened Yuel’s eyes to various cultures and scenery which inspired her and transformed her life. Initially, Renault planned for Yuel to reside in Coerthas by the observatorium as an atrologian's assistant in a demure but cozy home. Renault returned as a disgrace to the community but he was eager to return to Dalmasca either way. The news of his temporary return came as a shock to his wife, Arette, who had turned radically to the Orthodox church of Ishgard, and to the contempt of his then young adult son, Yvain.
Renault's mother, Myrtane had established herself as a classical actress, prolific dancer, and diva of her time. Much like her son, she was wed out of duty and not love, but that never stopped her from entertaining suitors and admirers, many who held notable positions in Ishgardian court. She understood the well-intentioned but weak nature of her son and accepted him but disappointingly so. His son Yvain, on the other hand, was merely suspicious of his father after he had abandoned him. Yvain, being fed up with the aristocracy and inhumanity within Ishgard, built a split identity and considered himself a dark knight to protect the people. He hid his cause well from his devout to the church mother. Renault, however, knew nothing of what was occurring with his wife or son as he escaped the moment he was assured of Yuel's safety.
New Purpose
Upon entering Ishgard for the first time, Yuel found herself utterly captivated by the dark charm of the city.
Myrtane was delighted to make acquaintance with her. Intrigued by Yuel’s underlying obscurity, Myrtane assured her that she would see to it that Yuel be allowed refuge in Ishgard. A blip in time later, and Myrtane managed to place Yuel before Count Edmont de Fortemps with a grant of asylum. As a gift, Myrtane waited outside with a breathtaking pearl white Ishgardian gown. Yuel later wove in her own touches with specular silver threads which resembled her grandmother's starlike hair. Yuel found her grandmother to be mystically impressive and spent as much time as she could with her. Over time, Myrtane declared Yuel her protégé in dance and theatre. Yuel combined traditional dancing techniques from Yanxia with Myrtane’s classical training, and even added her own elements of contemporary dance.
The injustices within Ishgard were not lost on Yuel and she attempted to aid those who were disparaged by the system in any way she could. With her hopeful adolescent mind, she developed the idea that setting up dance classes in the Brume would help increase morale and give individuals an outlet for their anger and grief. She would collect food from a local bakery and offer it to anyone who joined her class. The classes were full of people stretching and jumping around accordingly.
Fanatical Danger
With Yuel’s growing relationship with Myrtane, came rumors of Yuel's origin and her possible connection to Renault. Word traveled to Renault’s wife Arette, who could not live with being disgraced, and, in a moment of impudence, sought to have Yuel executed. She covertly ordered her guards to murder her while Yuel taught dance to a group of Ishgardians who were beginning to develop an affinity for her classes. In a fortuitous turn of events, Yvain appeared in full armor and fought off the guards. He revealed himself as Yvain and confessed to watching Yuel as he had heard whispers that she may be his half-sister. Through his powerful ties to a network of underground information, he identified that she would be in danger from his mother’s wrath. He cautioned her and encouraged her to study a manner of self-defense. He confided in her over his obscure life as a dark knight in order to protect the defrauded and abused individuals of Ishgard. They also bonded over their tense relationships with their father, as he never allowed himself to be vulnerable enough to be known by his children. Overtime, they grew closer and Yuel was drawn into the world as a vigilante. She finally grew into her own when Yvain was captured by members of an aristocratic family after he killed the eldest son for stalking and harassing a young woman of the Brume. She took stock of her physical ineptitude in terms of combat, and chose to pose as a masked performer with a faux troupe made up of members of her class instead and infiltrated the family’s home where she successfully poisoned the guards and set Yvain free, all without getting caught.
Following the incident, Yvain needed to lay low more than ever and thus, partnered with Yuel as she could act as the face of their duo while he gathered necessary intel and offered his skills in combat. Currently, they still partake in such vigilante missions, occasionally clashing as Yvain exhibits far more ruthlessness while Yuel prefers to cause as little trouble and injury as possible. She excelled at disguise and quick wit as she prided herself in creating intricate backstories and fronts for their missions.
Current Growth
Presently, Yuel continues to train for classical theatre and dance with her grandmother, Myrtane. She combines her teachings in dance with traditional elements of her homeland, techniques she picked up in her travels, as well as clandestine martial arts. She continues to run dance classes and employ her students as fronts for her fabricated group in order to discreetly exact justice.
Yuel resumes vigilante work with her brother, Yvain.
In her spare time, she offers her services in style and fashion as well as disguise. She is constantly researching the world around her as well as creatively writing whenever she gets the chance.
Yuel struggles with the art of combat, yet always keeps a pearl white dagger gifted to her by her mother under her clothing. Yuel is occasionally under threat by Arette’s fanatically religious forces, but she has managed to survive thus far.
Mostly, Yuel is found overdressed and lounging at various venues while reading or taking notes on her next project.
Yuel has amassed several skills as well as certain ineptitudes throughout her life (( ♠ Leave an ask here or in-game mail for requests)):
Theatre Connoisseur/Stylist
With a passion for Theatre and art-centered events, she spends much of her time traveling to various performances to take notes and sometimes write staunch reviews if she is moved to do so. When she finds the time, though quite rare, she dives into organizing and hosting theatre events of her own. She is currently searching for those with a passion for theatre and performance art to work with.
Additionally, Yuel has gathered extensive knowledge of fashion through her upbringing and travels. She prides herself in styling others either for day-to-day life, special occasions, or performances. On an underground note, she is skilled at concocting disguises for those with less legally inclined ambitions as well.
Dance Trainer and Student
Greatly influenced by her grandmother and past tragedienne, Myrtane, Yuel is currently undergoing training in theatre and dance, specializing in tragic or melodramatic roles. She finds the art of storytelling through performance deeply rewarding.
She has been holding classes for the under-represented in the Brume for several years now and has recently chosen to expand her training to other areas. She often practices in harsh weather conditions and rough environments to improve her self-discipline. She believes in order for it to be authentic, the dance must be truthful and empowering.
Masked Vigilante
Yuel can be hired for missions involving guerrilla justice where the system has failed. She employs several methods acquired after years of working in Ishgard with her half-brother, Yvain. The work can span from reconnaissance to deception for information.
Additionally, she performs ritual dances akin to the ones her mother utilized for the Dalmascan resistance to destabilize and defeat enemy combatants.
♠ She carries out such pursuits in complete secrecy and asks that her clients use code names for themselves and for her. Yuel is inclined to dramaturgy and selects scenic heights and extravagant costumes to conduct her business at the expense of security.
♠ She is constantly recruiting trusted associates to pursue some of these daunting endeavors, especially those with experience in physical combat as that is her weakness.
Combat Apprentice
Yuel fares poorly in any kind of physical contest, especially close combat. Briefly in her youth, she was taught the basics of archery, though she abandoned the art and only revisited it recently. Her grandmother had also attempted to teach her how to fight with a dagger, but Yuel can be quite clumsy. She further dampens her chances of excelling at combat by placing more importance on her fashion than her strength. Yuel may seem like a lost cause, but the potential is there (maybe).
She makes up for her physical ineptitude with her perception and discerning nature, though she is easily blindsided by those more experienced.
♠ She is currently searching for mentors in combat technique to study and learn from.

"Before I met my grandmother, I was terrified of what it meant to own my truth and be myself. She taught me to embrace my peculiarities and never apologize. She is proof that one can be fierce and aggressive while showing the deepest warmth to those they love. Above all else, she is the best dressed and most charmingly hilarious being I have ever met. People view her as many characters, but to me, she is my dearest grandmother and mentor."
“Though we come from the same father, Yvain and I met much later in life under unfortunate circumstances. He is an intense and dark character. I would never tell him directly, but he transformed my life, and though at times harsh, he opened my eyes to the truth of this world. Before I met him, I was soft and naive. I can thank him for my fortitude and resolve. I am eternally grateful he trusts me enough to work with me to combat the corruption within Ishgard, for he is a truly talented assailant and gracious brother.”
“Nobody knows what I would give to spend more time with my grandmother in Rabanstre. She sometimes visits my dreams, surrounded by fire. I know it’s her. She possesses such raw power and talent, yet remains criminally humble. She showed me a spiritual world I never imagined existed and taught me how to survive. I try not to think of her fate after I left, and instead hold on to the memories of her radiant laughter. She is all the tender corners of my heart.”
“A ruthless fighter at heart, my mother has died and risen again from her own ashes. She is truly a spectacular being. As graceful as she is deadly, but nobody would ever assume the latter. Though selective, she has a heart of gold and little patience for arrogance or insolence. When I was a child, she sang me to sleep every night no matter how tired she felt or how much she was hurting. She taught me how to dance and how to fight and how to love. I honor her in everything I do."
“Complicated as it may be, Renault showed his support in a detached yet protective manner. I failed to understand this when I was younger, but now I can feel the immense sorrow brewing within him. I sometimes wonder how he managed to stay afloat within the void of chaos he had surrounding him. I recognize he put everything on the line to provide for us and I will always appreciate his efforts. My fondest memory of him is when he had an especially horrifying night terror and woke up in a sweat, screaming. I rushed to his side and hugged him. It felt as if he had shed all his layers and held me back so sincerely, then looked at me with his weepy eyes until I watched them morph back into glass.”
“Arette is a lost soul who has attempted time and time again to take everything from me. Yet, I sympathize with her grief. She continues to desperately cling to a false reality that she is not alone. She is so fearful of knowing herself, she has become a husk of a being which she fills with bigotry and extremist religion. I would kill her without a drop of remorse, were she not Yvain’s mother. He swears he despises her and cares not if she lives or dies, but one can never escape their mother’s place in their heart, whether it’s medicinal or poisonous.”
Lady Sela( ♦ ✔)( Friend and Employee ) - Wide-eyed Logician
“Sela is a new friend but she has shared with me a wealth of knowledge regarding various cultures and customs throughout the world. I am thankful to have her as my bookkeeper, as I cannot be bothered with technicalities and pragmatism. She is exceptional and incredibly brave.”
