Maelstrom Foreign Levy 81st Company GENERAL INFORMATION VYNCENT TANNER is a former Maelstrom enlisted soldier, having served with the Grand Company of his city-state for eight cycles. After receiving an other than honorable discharge, he made his way as a sell sword and mercenary for hire. In this line work of he created quite a name for himself, mostly that of a man to go to when you needed a job done. His prowess and skill in combat, most notably with the two handed axe, is well known across the realm, mostly to those having dealings with ones in his line of work. Fate saw his path cross with the 81st Foreign Levy, and he founds reasons to join the ranks of the Free Company, which he has served with ever since. Recent events, and helpful friends with allies in the right places, have seen him reinstated to his former rank in the Maelstrom, preparing for a dangerous reconnaissance mission into the heart of Garlean held territory, the fallen city of Ala Mhigo . APPEARANCE TANNER'S style of dress is one of comfort and practicality, the majority of the time. Simple, loose fitting leathers and garments, often equipped with some form of padding or light protection. On rare occasion he has been known to step up his attire, though the events or company must be deserving of such a thing. On the battle field he is clad in armor from head to toe. When wielding his great sword, his armor is of the medium variety, jet black and fitted to allow for ease of movement when wielding his second weapon of choice. When his preferred method of destruction is in hand, he dawns his custom armor of the bear, looking every bit as a menacing beast, clad from head to toe in thick armored plating, truly defining the roll of what a tanky, front line warrior should be. PERSONALITY Fierce. Loyal. Unrelenting. Tanner, as he goes by to most, is slow to open up, and even slower to trust, sometimes mistaken as arrogant or a bit full of himself, though he doesn't intend to come off as such. Often taken as rude and heartless, he's very stubborn and set in his ways, not overly concerned with upsetting others by his words or actions. He is confident in his abilities and is always willing to lend aid to those in need, whether his demeanor reflects that or not. He'd not leave someone in trouble to fend for themselves, more than willing to charge in to battle and lend a hand. A member of the Maelstrom since his 18th name day, Vyncent rose quickly to the rank of Sergeant, though his promotions came to a sudden halt as he began to have more difficulty taking orders he deemed reckless or careless from younger officers with less experience than he, eventually leading to an other than honorable discharge from the Maelstrom. He believes one can only learn so much from study on battlefield tactics, and the real knowledge is gained on the field, through experience, earned in sweat and blood, along with his respect. Unmatched with the use of a Battle Axe. WEAKNESSES Close minded. Not open to things he doesn't approve or nor understand. Quick to anger, and almost as quick to react. Checks and balances, lacking them at times, dedicating the majority of his time to training, fatigued or not. Not a social butterfly, and very slow to open up, slower still to trust. One or other, and if situations demand it, both can be seen strapped across his back. Flask: Tanner never departs without it. And ensures it's always topped off before heading out. Roughly the size of two highlander fists, silver in color, wrapped in black leather. The initials G.T are etched into the bottom. Coinpurse: Just that, a small leather sack, used for holding his gil. Never carried when in armor or on the battle field. In social settings, it's usually tucked inside his coat, in a pocket flush against his chest. Rations: Jerky, a man needs his protein. COMBAT & WEAPONRY Melee: Tanner is master in own his mind when it comes to wielding melee weapons. Axe, swords, the lance, all are weapons of war that he is more than comfortable wielding, the axe being his preferred tool of the trade. More often than not he can be seen leading the charge, swinging his war axe around wildly to strike fear into the hearts of his foes, before colliding with them on the battle field in a clash of steel and Highlander fury. Ranged: Tanner knows how to make use of a bow, though he's had little experience with the ranged weapon in combat. He's undergone basic firearms training from his time with the Maelstrom, though he never took a liking to the weapons, preferring a much more intimate and close up encounter on the battle field. Magic: Tanner's grasp on aether manipulation is mostly one of self preservation, skilled in channeling his inner Wrath and Abandon, enabling him to focus his aether to increase his health and stamina, heal minor wounds, or unleash devastating blows on his enemies. "Vivian" Made from an unknown composition of metals, Tanner spent nearly ten cycles in savings to afford the craftsmanship of such a weapon,sparing no expense on his preferred weapon of choice. Named in honor of the finest and most talented lady of the night to ever work the streets of Limsa Lominsa. Tanner saught it fitting to honor the woman who, over the years, he had grown very close to, the relationship stretching far beyond that of physical interactions. He is prideful in her, and wields the weapon as such, treating it with great care. "Keaira" Crafted and forged by a woman that has become very dear to him, Onuma Ahntifi, made of a durable and rare alloy found in the Coerthas Western Highlands by Tanner and Twinning. The gift is one of his most prized possessions, razor sharp all around, engraved with the name he found most fitting of such a magnificent weapon. Keaira, his first true friend upon joining the 81st. "Wren" Little is known about this seldom seen weapon, having found little use in Tanner's hands since joining the ranks of the 81st. It is known only as Wren, nothing more. "Little Shit" A simple, steel dagger he picked up in Ul'dah. There is nothing note worthy of this simple weapon. He can be seen with it mostly when in casual attire. The name was given in light of meeting one of the few Lalafells among his company, Crystal. She is the weapons name in his eyes, forever and always, a Little Shit. The woman was everything in his eyes, raising not only himself, but his older brother and younger sister as well, mostly on her own. Until the day his older brother died, she was what he loved most in the world. Until she placed the blame for his death on him, and said she never wanted to see him again. Orn Tanner, father. ( – ✖ ) Last words: "You're dead to me. Ya fuckin hear me boy?! Dead!." Orn Tanner, father to Vyncent, was never around much during his childhood. He ran an often unsuccessful fishing business that kept him out to see for moons at a time. Tanner's relationship with his father was rocky at best, angering him greatly when he chose to up and leave Limsa Lominsa, and the failing family business, with dreams and aspirations of joining the Maelstrom. To this day, after learning of his eldest sons death, Orn will you tell you he has no sons, and that the family blood line ends upon his last breath. Garin Tanner, Older Brother. ( – ♥ – ❖ ) Last words: ”Take care of them for me...help my boy know what it is to be a man.” Tanner's older brother, Garin, was also his best friend, mentor, and the greatest man he's ever known. He idolized him when the two were younger, wanting to do everything Garin did, and be just like him in everyway. As the years progressed, and the two grew older, fate saw them working hand and hand as Mercenaries out of Ul'dah. A fated mission that Tanner regrets to this day, led the pair to the Coerthas Central Highlands, where unfortunate circumstances led the two to battle with the feared and despised dragon, Skavog, a vile and cannibalistic creature known to feed on its own kind. The battle saw the dragon driven away, but not with Garin being mortally wounded in the fray, dying in his younger brothers arms . Wren Tanner, Younger sister. ( – ♥ – ✖ ) Last words: ”Gods damn it Vyncent...you're the only brother I have left! Don't shut me out!” Tanner's younger sister, Wren, was one that he cherished and adored when they were younger. He was always overprotective of her, and Wren hated him for it, driving off any boy that even looked like they wanted to speak to her, aside from himself and Garin. The two kept in touch, writing to each as often as they could when Tanner joined the Maelstrom, always updating each other on their lives. After his discharge, before taking up life as a mercenary, the two were together often, causing mischief and all sorts of trouble on the streets of Limsa. That all changed when Garin died, Wren, like her mother and father, held Tanner responsible, and walls quickly rose between them. The siblings had not spoken since news of Garin's death, until quite recently, when Wren travelled to the home of the 81st to try and make amends with her only remaining sibling, talks that did not end as she had hoped.
