Lyse † Crofte To the victor go the spoils, but what do the survivors get? Described at times as 'creepy' and 'intimidating', Lyse prefers to think of herself as a quiet observer. She is fiercely loyal and though she has few real connections in the world since her time in Carteneau, those she does have she holds onto with both fists. She is no stranger to speaking her mind when necessary, and if asked for her opinion she will give it truly and honesty whether the person wants the full weight of her observations or not. Though she is loathe to kill for no reason, she won't hesitate to take a life if it seems necessary, refusing to spend hours poring over the ideas of absolute right and wrong in which killing is always bad or always good. To Lyse, there is right and wrong and while she realises that some of her choices will be always taken as the wrong choice -- and she accepts that they are likely very wrong -- if she feels passionately she will still carry them out.   Associations A lot can be said about someone by the company they keep, and both through her time with the Flame Yataghans and just sitting around in the Hourglass or otherwise, Lyse has made some amazing connections to some lovely people. ♥Khyros Oroban: Lyse spent many years wandering alone and never letting other people crack through her shell, until a fated encounter with Khy in the Shroud one night. She learned she could smile, she could feel that low-down dirty unf feeling, and her heart still thrummed with emotion. He's like no one she's ever met before and she feels she owes a great deal to him, even if his modesty keeps him from accepting how much he might have actually done for her. Budding feelings are an odd thing for a woman who was completely ready to spend her life alone. Alas, some things are not meant to be, and you are better served being a true friend to someone you might have loved more deeply. Youth outweighs most things and Lyse isn't one to try and bring someone to a full halt before they are ready. ♥Augustine Frost: Augustine made the mistake of approaching Lyse in a drunken stupor one night and hadn't really expected for her to take to him, as far as she can tell. She didn't fall for his advances, but over the next little while did find she cared about him more than she cared to admit and, at one point, had considered actually taking him up on his offer for a date. Since then, he's found his true place with his heart and she couldn't be happier for him, and has instead taken up the role of the girl who throws rocks at him that he might have had romantic inclinations towards, but now just seems to care about; a feeling which is reciprocated. ♥Garrett Sancsaron: Garrett is family, and even Lyse cannot explain why she took so suddenly to the man, but he seems to appreciate the way that she treats him as both and an adult, bolstering his confidence and assuming he is full capable, which she truly believes. As much as she can, Lyse is determined to rebuild his confidence and allow him to be the man she knows he can be, all while protecting him as much as she would any of her other dear friends. ♥Tayn Zolin: If ever there were a man who was, in essence, the balancing force for Lyse's moods, it'd be Tayn. A man of stature and importance who knows when to let loose and when to buckle down and get serious; he's self sacrificing to a fault, much like Lyse, and willing to go the extra distance for friends and family; he's one of the best things to ever happen to her and they spend an incessant amount of time together. ♥Aerius Destroven: Quiet and pretty are the best ways to describe Aerius on any given day. Her association with him was sudden, but she seems to like him as much anyone would an associate that they see infrequently. Likely to trust him at her back in a fight, she sees something there between he and Lily and wishes to encourage that. ♥Lily Dawnsworn: Tough as nails and soft as feathers - it's a hard balance to hold for a woman of the cloth, but Lily does it with grace and dignity, a thing Lyse wishes she had more often. There's a strength in Lily that Lyse sees mirrored in her own self, and a softness that she shows infrequently which speaks to the dragoon on many levels. If you want a woman at your back in a fight, It's Lily. ♦Garrett Slater: In her mind, Lyse often refers to Garrett as blondiebear, and took to him a bit more than he likely took to her because of his chivalry and compassion. Not one to be conned into doing something untoward just because of someone's feigned sob story, Lyse realised she was very fond of him when his resolve held true even though it was upsetting to him. He seems a man afraid of falling short of others expectations, but has met Lyse's and then some. ♥Trisselle Ganathain: Though a fairly new associate of Lyse's, she's fond of the current-Hyur, former-Elezen, and sees a doting, mothering compassion in her, as well as a deep respect for the people around her, regardless of their race, gender, or creed. Though Triss often sells herself short, Lyse sees in her a fire that would burn the world to cinder if her friends were at stake, and that is worth everything in the world to Lyse. ♦Kale Aideron: When Lyse transferred over to the Flame Yataghans, she had no idea what to expect, but found a sort of odd comradery with her company. Kale was one of the first she met, and is her commanding officer. Though she often wants to hit him with rocks or just hit him in general, she tends to maintain a professionalism around him that she doesn't when she's off-duty, as if being good at what she does was a source of pride; and Kale encourages that, for the most part. ♦Dweia Delacroix: The healer for the Flame Yataghans, offered over from the Adders in their time of need, as everyone else within the Yataghans seems more adept at creating chaos than healing it, Dweia is irreplaceable in Lyse's eyes. It isn't just because of the fact that the woman is their healer, but that she seems to have this deep desire to mother everyone and keep people safe, regardless of what it might cost her personally. Lyse's attentions and protection tends to fall for Dweia in combat situations unless she's told otherwise. Rumours Often Heard Heard in Passing Player Thoughts - "Who th'fuck is the redhead sitting on the pot? Doesn' she know she'll break her damn neck. Nah, 'm no' gonna tell her m'self, fuck that." - "She was out in Dragonhead once... saw her slip out of the gate and down into the valley near there and then she just seemed to lose it and cut a bloody path through that thing... I ran back home after that, some things a man avoids..." - "I cannot condone some of Lyse's actions, nor can I approve of her vulgarity, but that does not mean she does not speak truth, or have conviction. Her Path is set, her will is strong, and beware to the one who stands in her way." ---Lily Dawnsworn - "I'm pretty sure she might be slow... y'know, mentally? She rarely says a word unless that one guy comes in, then she throws a rock at him, calls him a name, and goes back to sittin' like a statue." - "Seems no stranger to battle... once saw her walking through the shroud with her face spattered in blood and a distant look on her face. Did I approach her? I'm standin' here, ain't I?! No!" - "She could, with very little difficulty, render me to pieces with merely a look. Not that I would, but if we stood against one another, I would be far the wiser to surrender. Tendencies Likes Dislikes White Haired Men Overly Sweet Foods Fighting Silence Rain and Storms Magic Books Uninvited Physical Contact Music Music is important to me, so while I have a playlist for Lyse called "scarred", I also have a deep need to explore at least a few of these songs and their reasoning for being a part of who she is. "Made of Scars" by Stone Sour was one of the first songs I ever chose. I had always wanted her to have this tapestry of scars across her body that told a story of all the stuff she'd been through. It was to draw into the story about her blackouts and losing entire companies worth of people and being the only survivor surrounded in bodies and blood. More than anything, it's a bit of a nod to the fact that she often is heard saying "Scars are just a reminder that something tried to kill you and failed." because most of hers really should have been lethal. "The Phoenix" by Fall Out Boy addresses my love for fire and how I see Lyse's story moving towards something where she has this note of a Phoenix who won't go down and rises from near-death so often it becomes almost obnoxious. That being said? The theme of the song being about taking the world back and making it into a beautiful thing, and taking things into your OWN hands and helping the people around you become better. She strives to help the people who she sees a sort of flaming-passion in. "Battle Born" by Five Finger Death Punch is not only one of my favourite songs, but every time I listen to it I think of Lyse. For a while her entire existence was a perfect measure of being alone wrapped up in a need to do what she could to make sure others wouldn't have to. Protecting her world, as it were, had become her entire focus after her love had died in Carteneau, which might have even been caused by her. She died for a bit, but never lost that spark for life... but in the end, she is a fighter and she is battle born, so it seemed fitting. There is likely little-to-no way someone could find the IC writings at all unless Lyse were to choose to share them. Lyse's Lodestone - It might not be wholly useful or even all that interesting, but it's there if someone wanted it. Tropes It's a work in progress for now, so until this line is removed, it's not wholly definitive. Does Not Like Magic - This one is important, as anyone who has played with her will know. It's not that she doesn't see the practical use of magic in some cases, but tends to take a harder look at darker magics and people who throw it around like the answer to everything. As Lyse understands - and understands all too well - all magic comes with a price and people seem to think it's a band-aid to fix what they don't like about the world, so she tends to abhor its use. Healing, however, seems to get somewhat of a pass. Lady of War - Probably the most obvious of her tropes, while most people would throw her out as the Action Girl, the weird, sage-like advice that she doles out sometimes and the fact that her violence is relatively well-contained until it's necessary helps her fall under this trope. To be honest, she doesn't dress well but she's still a damn lady, I promise. Friendless Background - Though Lyse did have a family, friends, and even a lover in her past, the last six years of her life I've played out as every connection she's had has ended bloody, so she tended to avoid being parts of groups or making friends or anything of the sort - so basically since Carteneau she's had a measure of this trope in her. Red Headed Hero - Y'gotta have red hair, mang. I love a redhead so every game I play the first char tends to be a redhead - generally they share similar traits, but Lyse is probably the one who nears that heroine line in a traditional sense more than anyone. Tsundere - Augustine gets the brunt of this more than anyone, but Garrett has also seen some of it as well - while arguable in being entirely fitting, Lyse is very much Tsundereesque, in going from her moods of doting mothering to wanting to throttle someone and being very harsh and blunt about what she says. It's a thing. Staring Down Cthulhu - I struggled with this one or another for a while, but in the end Lyse is the type to stare in the face of danger and refuse to back down. Not just because she's a hero - though if someone else is involved this multiplies tenfold - but because she's just too damn stubborn to give up on things. She'll stand her ground and face down anything. Tomboy with a Girly Streak - The tomboy part would come to no surprise to those who have been around Lyse, as she favours fighting to dancing (though to her they share similarities), and would rather be given a weapon than flowers... she still does have a touch of a girly streak in her, liking some things that people would likely not expect of the pseudo Amazon.
