P E R S O N A L I T Y

Upon first meeting, Valena can come off as serious and even cold, often focusing on the problem at hand rather than the person asking. However, this is usually a cover for how shy and nervous she really is around new faces. Once she gets to know someone, Valena is generally good-natured and loyal. With close friends, her wit and sarcasm shine and can even be seen showing rare affection.

A P P E A R A N C E

While on the short side for a Highlander, 5 fulms 7 ilms, Valena has an intimidating presence. She has sharp hawk-gold eyes and her face is covered in light scars from her past; the exceptions being a deep newer scar over her right eye and a fresh scar on her chin. Her hair is dark burgundy, unkempt, and usually pulled back or hacked off for practicality.

L I K E S ■ Night. Valena finds the nighttime to be relaxing. She can sometimes be found stargazing on her stable roof. ■ Ocean. She can't remember ever seeing the ocean but she dreams of it. ■ Spicy Food. It is hard to come by, but she will give her hard earned gil to any merchant that supplies.

D I S L I K E S ■ Poorly designed armor. When she sees it, her temper flares. Bad armor is worse than no armor. ■ Arrogance. Valena tends to become busy and avoid the occasional traveling Ishguardian. ■ Rich Sweets. The children think they are subtle when they all try to sit next to her during festivities.

B A C K G R O U N D

C U R R E N T Valena and her pet fish were found unconscious in the Chocobo Forest by two hunters from Tailfeather. Wounded and completely naked, except for a broken necklace that she clutched to her chest, the hunters took pity on Valena and rushed her to their village. There she was treated for a particularly nasty gash on her right palm and another on her chin. It took Valena a considerable time to heal, as it was later discovered the wounds had been poisoned. When Valena finally came out of her haze she had no memory of her past or the events that landed her in the Chocobo Forest. With just an oddly loyal fish, a worthless broken necklace, and nowhere to go, she decided to pay back her saviors by chocobo hunting. The people of Tailfeather happily took her into the fold, teaching her the skills and techniques of a successful hunter. She quickly discovered she had some innate learned skills, such as knot tying and star navigation, which would occasionally earn her some raised eyebrows. She currently lives in an unused stable Tailfeather; but more often than not, she can be found in the forest chocobo hunting to attempt to pay back the generosity given to her.

P A S T Forgotten: Life Before Tailfeather Valena was born in Ala Mhigo to a coastal village on the 22nd Sun of the First Astral Moon, 1545. When the Garleans attacked in 1557, Valena's father died to give his family time to escape to the water. Valena, her mother Charlotte, and younger brother Octavian, were saved by a Roegadyn named Moernmoen. He brought them to Limsa Lominsa and continued to stay in touch with Valena's family, later becoming a mentor to Valena. Eventually Valena’s mother met Victor Everardi, and soon remarried. Valena's Half-Sister, Camille Everardi, was born in 1560. From an early age Valena took a strong interest in combat and battle tactics. She often begged grounded Malestrom crew to teach her but it wasn't until her 18th birthday that her mother allowed to study Arcanum and combat strategy. She trained religiously in her free time for her goal, to join the Crimson Fleet of Malestrom. Three years later, Valena left Lominsa and joined the Black Sails. Her brother joined her a few years later. Valena volunteered for an infantry position for the Battle of Carteneau Fields. She knew the Eorzean Alliance was outnumbered, but she couldn't let her brother face it alone. During the battle Valena was mortally wounded. Having already witnessed her brother's last breath and believing herself to be dead either way, she pushed herself to fight until she could no longer raise her weapon. This plan was ruined when Dalamud exploded. When Valena regained her senses, she found herself in her hysteric sister's arms and dying from her wounds. She was saved, but not without losing the use of her left leg and much of her strength. Mourning the death of her brother and with a new clouded outlook on life, Valena threw herself into Arcanum studies. While she became a very successful Summoner, she never disclosed any of her findings or research. Valena later started a semi-successful relic hunting business with Autolycus Furare, a rumored thief. While neither would ever admit it, they became close and loyal friends. Valena was officially declared missing by the Maelstrom when she failed to show up for a mission. It has been speculated she was missing for at least 2 months before they found out. Signs of a struggle were initially found in Valena’s residence but the evidence was later stolen. Valena and Autolycus have been missing ever since.

No one is sure where it came from, as Assassin Frys are not native to the region and especially not water-less ones. It seems to have some intelligence and often warns Valena of danger. Marcechamp ( ♦ ) ( NPC ) - Tailfeather Hunter Marcechamp often imparts chocobo hunting wisdom to Valena. While not the only one to do so, he occasionally brings her supplies and invites her into his home during bad weather.
