[edit] Details Personality Relationships BACKGROUND Valena was born in Ala Mhigo to a coastal village durning the First Astral Moon in 1545. When the Garleans attacked in 1557, Valena's father died to give his family time to escape. Valena, her mother Charlotte, and younger brother Octavian, were saved by a Roegadyn named Moernmoen. He brought them to Limsa Lominsa and continued to stay in touch with Valena's family, later becoming a mentor to Valena. Eventually Valena’s mother met Victor Everardi, and soon remarried. Valena's Half-Sister, Camille Everardi, was born in 1560. From an early age Valena took a strong interest in combat and battle tactics. She often begged grounded Maelstrom crew to teach her but it wasn't until her 18th birthday that her mother allowed to train and study combat strategy. She practiced religiously in her free time for her goal, to join the Crimson Fleet of Maelstrom. Three years later, Valena left Lominsa and joined the Black Sails. Her brother joined her a few years later. Valena participated the Battle of Carteneau Fields alongside her brother as infantry for the Eorzean Alliance. Only Valena eventually returned home from the fight and it is not a story she wishes to tell. Currently, Valena is an active member of the Maelstrom and has started a semi-successful relic hunting business with Autolycus Furare, a rumored thief. While neither will ever admit it, they have become close and loyal friends. VALENA'S SECRET (I am open to others knowing and using this but please ask OOC before using IC) Valena, in an obsession to protect her loved ones, foolishly tampered with an ancient amulet and found herself cursed. In a last ditch effort to break the curse, she accidently released the dark aether stored in the amulet. It immediately attempted to overpowered her and attack Autolycus. Valena wrestled for control and to stop the attack on Autolycus. However, she only succeeded in lessening the curse placed on him. During the struggle between aethers, the Lifestream ripped and dragged Valena, whole bodied, into it’s stream. Autolycus found himself alone in Valena’s study and missing the last ten minutes of his memory. Valena has since returned from the Lifestream. Inquiries about the time she went missing will be answered with a lie and a glazed over look. Anyone who knew her from before this time, might notice her once yellow eyes have returned to their natural green color and her overall mood has improved. Perceptive aether sight users would notice a myriad of thin bands of differing aethers swirling in and around her own. APPEARANCE While on the short side for a Highlander, Valena can have an intimidating presence when she wants to. She has sea green eyes and her face is covered in light scars from her past; the exceptions being a deep scar over her right eye and a fresh scar on her chin. Her hair is dark rose, unkempt, and usually pulled back or hacked off for practicality. PERSONALITY Upon first meeting, Valena can come off as reserved and even shy, often focusing on the problem at hand rather than the person asking. However, once she gets to know someone, Valena is generally good-natured and loyal. With close friends, her wit and sarcasm shine and can even be seen showing affectionate hugs or pats. Occasionally, she will slip off into a daze before shaking herself out of it. LIKES ■ Ocean She often dreams of the ocean depths. ■ Spicy Food Even when it is hard to come by, she will give her hard earned gil to any merchant or chef that supplies it. Particularly fond of curry. ■ Night Valena finds the nighttime to be relaxing. She can sometimes be found stargazing on a clear night. DISLIKES ■ Arrogance Valena tends to become very busy when confronted by it. ■ Rich Sweets Too much sugar makes her feel ill. She prefers citrusy desserts. ■ Time Wasting Work done efficiently leaves more free time with those she cares about. MOTIVATIONS ■ Protect Her loved ones from foolish mistakes and to ensure her own mistakes aren’t repeated. ■ Fear Of the Garleans, who took her father and brother from her and devastated her home. ■ Duty To the Maelstrom and to her family. RELATIONSHIPS FAMILY Autolycus Furare Valena's Thoughts: "Brilliant Strategist. Don’t tell him I said that." Technically, Valena’s husband. However, they very rarely act married except perhaps to argue. They run a semi-successful relic hunting business together. Valena considers him her closest friend but believes it is best left unsaid. Camille Everardi - Sister Valena's Thoughts: "So much time lost … I wish to make up for what I can." Valena and Camille’s age difference was a wedge between them in their younger years. Recently, that has become less important. While Valena doesn’t always agree with Camille’s methods they generally get along now. Charlotte Everardi - Mother Valena's Thoughts: "She can be a real headache but I guess that is the case with most moms. I should probably send her more letters." They rarely see eye to eye on the day to day topics. Valena resented her mother’s life choices and new marriage for a long time but as an adult, Valena now respects her mother’s tough decisions. Victor Everardi - Stepfather Valena's Thoughts: " He is … fine." Growing up, she respected his Maelstrom career and little else. She believed he was trying to replace her deceased father. Valena is trying to come to terms with Victor as her stepfather but still finds his quirkiness annoying. Octavian Verloren - Brother Valena's Thoughts: "He saved my life … twice. I miss him so much." Valena adored her baby brother from the day he was born. They endured their traumatic uprooting together but while Octavian was able to shake the experience off like water, Valena harden. She admired his wit and charm but was secretly jealous of his relationship with Camille. When he decided to fight for the Eorzean Alliance at the Battle of Carteneau Fields, she didn’t hesitate to join him. She views his untimely death as her fault. She just wasn’t fast enough to protect her baby brother. Since Valena’s return, she thinks of him often. Enkhjargal Dalamiq - Brother-in-law Valena's Thoughts: "He makes Camille happy. What else is there to say?" She likes him. He is smart and takes good care of her sister. He can be a little odd at times but it is none of her business. NON-FAMILY R'kyala Mahji Valena's Thoughts: "She may as well be another little sister.” Valena views her as another sister to be protected. She hasn’t seen her in a while though, and that worries her. Arlene Lamoreaux Valena's Thoughts: "She has become a fast friend and I enjoy our conversations.” Valena is curious about this Elezen that she keeps bumping into. She considers Arlene a new friend and overall trusts her.
