(WARNING: Liliana is a lore-breaking character; she came from the world of FFXI/Vana'diel. If you don't like these sorts of characters, I'd advise against interacting with her!)

Liliana Nazareth (Li-lee-ah-nuh Nah-zuh-re-th) is many things: a passionate, headstrong leader; a fierce but loyal (or mayhap both?) friend and lover; and a caring, loving, albeit sometimes forgetful mother. Abrasive in her aura around those she deems suspect, she is more than willing to open up when the occasion fancies; more often than not being a rather talkative, supportive sort while slipping in sly, acidic anecdotes about her distrust of those who worship Hydaelyn. Though not an Ascian by any means, she would much rather be independent of the two major deities, preferring to refer to any sort of victory achieved as being done by her own talents.

Considered among the valued members of the Scions, Liliana is one of the few that do possess the Echo and is highly sensitive to its effects, even after her post-amnesiac state. Regardless of her ability to sense many different things during its trigger, she has no idea how to control it. Also, sometimes the visions become so intense for her that she swears by the Twelve that she's lived through it--it definitely serves to mix up her stories, and may foster distrust in some when she means the exact opposite.

Character

Appearance

Among her peers and even others, Liliana is considered of average height, though among women she errs more towards the tall side. This simple fact alone, though driven heavily by her personality, has caused her to act with more masculine chivalry, retaining a "knight's persona" throughout, though her looks are still very feminine, albeit not naturally so--meaning, she prides herself in taking care of her appearance, going great lengths to ensure that she is perceived as a woman; also, in part, due to this complex.

Days in the Thanalan sun have finally given Lily color back to her skin; what was once milky pale is now sun-kissed caramel in tone. It is a great offset to her hair, of which the color is often the subject of (out of character) debate--some people perceive her as blonde, others say white, silver, or grey hair; some even go as far as to mix the two. Liliana's own opinion on this seems to fall on deaf ears, as whenever the subject is brought up within earshot, she insists that the color is classified as "wheat". Beyond all this is the structure of her eyes; an unnatural lilac in hue. However, this is the only thing that is special about them; Lily cannot do parlor tricks of illusion with them, nor do they glow in certain conditions. The most they do is change color according to mood or health; most often they slip into a misty grey. The only time that this color change deviates is when she abandons her self-control--foregoing the natural laws of anatomy in reference to eye color, they slip into a hazy amber tone, though the color has only been seen as flashes.

A little under half a decade spent as a deckhand in Aleport has toned Liliana's physique, but the birth of her child Ella summarily "ruined" all of her hard work in losing the weight that she used to tote around. However, while only a little pudge remains, it has not affected Liliana in terms of physical ability--if anything, the change is now more cosmetic than anything (and she does happen to love the fact that her bosom is bigger since birth. Midlanders really get no love in that department). Also, like most people who fight and risk their lives on a daily basis, Liliana has scars and stories all her own. However, most of these scars are kept hidden from view under layers of clothing, and have only ever been seen by people who have found her in a state of undress.

Behavior

Liliana has undergone a lot of personality changes in the last five or so years. Once a quiet, reticent, and skittish woman; in recent years, she has learned to open up and be more vocal with her feelings, and has allowed others to get closer to her. In the process, she has been deeply hurt by leaving her heart so exposed, which has caused her to become a bit more callous and biting with her words, but at the same time, her rather "real" way of speaking has caused her to earn some respect among her peers. Regardless of her forward way of speaking to others, Liliana does not wish to incite drama or infighting with others. Beyond all that, she is inquisitive, and wishes to partake in every onze of knowledge that she can from a given situation. More of an ambassador than an actual fighter, Liliana detests fighting without reason; if she is forced into a conflict in which words fail, however, she will not hesitate to draw her blade, brandish her lance, or open her book in order to stop it.

When speaking, Liliana prefers to abolish most conjunctions and speaks with the utmost proper air, squaring her shoulders when speaking even to her closest companions. One could say that she speaks either like a noblewoman, or perhaps someone trained in the aspects of the theatre. Having spoken like this even while growing up, she could only guess that it is a permanent speech tic now, many years later. Try as she might to speak with a more 'common tongue', her proper dialect truly shines when she is upset or passionate about something. This little tidbit, however, is completely abandoned when she is exhausted or inebriated, or sometimes even when she wants to mask her identity; on one of these three occurrences, she slips back into the Lominsan accent she learned ages ago but never quite picked it up herself through consistent effort and trying. It doesn't last long, however, when she is trying to simply hide herself: she absolutely hates the way she sounds when she speaks with that tone.

Habits:
  • Ever since the birth of baby Ella, Liliana has taken to imbibing in alcohol once again. Her favorites are the ale served at the Quicksands, and naturally the mead served in the tavern at Aleport. When she's thoroughly hazed, she loves doling out relationship advice to people...even, and especially, to those who don't need nor want it.
  • Liliana speaks with an almost too proper dialect; belying that she may have been of a high authoritative standing in her past. Even among her closest friends, she still retains an air of nobility about her speech.
  • Keeping in with the customs of being unable to mind her own business, Liliana finds it almost a habit to fluster, annoy, or embarrass her friends. However, while she calls it a mere quirk, others call it her most annoying trait.
Likes:
  • Sweets; more specifically, apple tarts and rolanberry cheesecake. Regardless of which tavern she frequents, they always seem to have an extra one or the other lying in wait for her. It is honestly one of the quicker ways to her heart.
  • Exceptional leather and clothworking. Obsessed with intricate details, such garments make up more than three-quarters of her armory and personal armoire. Even her retainers are rather sickened by just how much she has in comparison to actual armor.
  • Caring for chocobos, especially her own, Hildegarde. She likes to believe that she is an expert in the field, and offers advice when asked. She is a bit zealous when it comes to the proper care and breeding techniques of the birds, but she honestly means well.
  • Oftentimes, she finds herself lost in the sea of stars that is Thanalan's and La Noscea's night skies. Liliana often wonders if one of those stars is the returning point of her home...though, she has a sinking feeling that there isn't much to go back to.
  • Any sort of small being that gives off an ethereal glow, such as fireflies or plasmoids. She could stare at them for hours.
  • Theatrics. She's often inspired by the bards frequenting Gridania or Mor Dhona and, if inebriated enough, would probably jump aboard the bar and begin to lavishly act out a scene from a long-forgotten play.
  • The 'pirate dialect', but only when used by others and not herself. It gives Lily a sense of comfort, being around people from her old hamlet of a home.
Dislikes:
  • Hydaelyn. Above all else, Liliana scorns the Goddess and feels that those who rely upon her or worship her are little more than the Tempered of a Primal.
  • Most weather patterns in Eorzea. She knows that she is far too picky, though she will refrain from complaints about it unless given to prolonged suffering. In fact, unlike before, Liliana much prefers the rainstorms in Eastern Thanalan.
  • Blood currants. They taste far too sour for her liking, and she nearly choked on a helping of a blood currant tart because of that.
  • Hidden cliffs. While she claims they are "hidden", Liliana just does not seem to be able to pay attention and ends up very nearly or actually falling off of them more often than she'd like. Thankfully, her Dragoon training has been able to save her ankles (among other things) from getting broken when she takes such tumbles.
Hobbies:
  • Being one of the morale boosters of her company. Regardless of what seems to get her down, Liliana manages to bounce right back and keep swinging, even against the toughest of odds.
  • In recent moons, she has been re-acquainting herself with her alchemy trade, offering donation-driven services to the people of Ul'dah when requested. She has also found that making dyes is a rather relaxing hobby for her, and usually includes a free 5-pot set of whatever color she's recently alchemized with requests she's given.
  • Dishonor in single combat. Nothing gets Liliana riled more than someone cheating in one-on-one combat, be it against her or someone else.
  • Fishing. Yes, fishing. While an adept fishmonger, Liliana proclaims that she does it merely to help feed her family. However, she always seems to be the most at ease when casting her line into La Noscea's many waters...and far more upset when she is disturbed from it.
Talents:
  • Alchemizing dyes on a whim. Her favorite color seems to be lotus pink, which must be very odd for many of the male adventurers she tends to aid.
  • Being able to embarrass her friend Thiji, and rather easily. While not exactly a pastime, she derives great pleasure in seeing her miniature friend flustered so easily by her words and actions.
  • Taking Ella along on her adventures. While Lanza (as well as some others) may not approve of her methods, their child seems to enjoy the way Liliana flips and dances across the various landscapes that dot Eorzea.

Favorites:

  • Favorite Food/Drink: Crumpets, Rolanberry Cheesecake, Apple Tarts; Mulled Tea
  • Favorite Animal/Creature: Chocobos
  • Least Favorite Food/Drink: Blood Currant Tarts; Pineapple Juice
  • Least Favorite Animal/Creature: Succubi, Morbol, Goobbues. Yes, Goobbues. Especially the one recently discovered within the unearthed ruins of the Lost Township.

Combat

General

Regardless of how Liliana prefers to fight, she is always a commanding figure on the field of battle. Able to quickly discern enemy patterns during combat, she can adjust hers and her teammates' fighting accordingly to whatever is deemed necessary at the time. When fighting alone, she is flighty of foot and quick-striking with her weapon; her entire style is like a dance of some measure, and her enemy partners fall to her footwork.

Gladiator/Paladin

Liliana's truest of friends and most stalwart of allies, she was trained from a young age the way of the sword and it is the style that she feels most comfortable with. While not as burly or as strong-looking as some of the other Gladiators gracing the Coliseum's halls, Liliana favors her footwork and quicker strikes over pure brute strength.

Knowingly headstrong and exhibiting leadership qualities that are both valiant and foolish, Liliana will not think twice to throw herself into the line of fire for a friend or ally, her shield and herself covering for those who are injured or in a tight spot otherwise. Always at the forefront of every battle, she is unafraid to take point and soldier on through field and dungeon alike.

Though she exhibits the mastered training of a Paladin, however, Liliana refuses to refer to herself as such. She believes Paladins, both free- and Sultansworn alike, squander their titles and throw them around carelessly, and she wishes to be considered no part of that. Instead, she is merely a knight, a general--a vision of a past bygone on the battlefield.

Arcanist/Scholar

Foregoing the sword to pick up a good book, Liliana has proven to be quite the deadly and helpful study both. While trained in the ways of white magick in her youth, she has found the ways of aetheric healing to feel more suited, and less heavily inclined upon the elements and therefore less taxing. However, she has found that healing those not aetherically-inclined to be a challenge, as she uses the aether within and directly around a person to heal them. She has a special way to heal these sorts of people, but she'd rather find another way around it, lest her friends and loved ones find out.

In battle, Liliana doubles a damage-dealing healer, able to make her foes suffer at the touch of festering diseases, deadly poisons, and mutilating other effects that slowly addle away over time. With her beloved fairies Marisol (Eos) and Danica (Selene), she can either wash away the pains of battle or make a drawn-out fight go by more quickly. Unlike other scholars and arcanists, she has not divined within the pages of the Omnilex--in fact, the scriptures of the Ars Notoria have caught her eye, being that she is obsessed with the Stone Vigil as of late. Oftentimes, she would bury herself in its pages, attempting to decipher its ancient texts with the help of tomes in the Observatorium.

Lancer

When the sword and spell-slinging fail her, Liliana turns to the lance. Having been inspired by Kairo, and taught by Lanza with rigorous, unforgiving fervor, she finally told herself that she was a lancer worthy of standing side by side to her friends in battle.Unfortunately, Liliana still suffers from confidence issues when keeping foes at bay, and is easily distracted from her concentration on taking down her targets.

Still, she doesn't feel so bad. Liliana knows that there are better and worse lancers than she out there, and she considers herself to at least be of average merit. Even after being one of the chosen ones to wield Gae Bolg, thus proving her standing as a dragoon, Lily still forgoes the ancient spear and the hefty responsibility of the dragoon arts in favor of something more rudimentary...and a spear that doesn't carry quite the historical weight with it.

Thaumaturgist/Black Mage

Liliana never wanted to admit to needing thaumaturgy, but after her foray into the Void, she realized that she was completely unprepared and has been suffering consequences since. Yet also since that time, she has been poring over books in Ul'dah's Ossuary, determined to learn the nature of the Void itself, so such things never happen again. She openly states that she is not as good as others at casting the actual spells, but that is a lie--whether or not it is her own power or power borrowed from her contract, the power of thaumaturgy has come natural to Lily, and she has even been secretly undergoing the trials to become a mage of the black. While not wanting to worry anyone, she understands how contradictory her actions are--however, regardless of how strong the pull of the Void is, she vowed to protect those close to her first and foremost, and as such does not openly practice combative thaumaturgy in front of her friends unless asked or reactively provoked.

Relationships

Lily's time in Eorzea has brought her into the company of many people. Not everyone turned out to be her friend, or even an ally. But all in the same, the company that Lily keeps is certainly colorful and varied.
Romantic Interest     Platonic Love      Unsure of Relation     Good Standing     Neutral Standing     Poor Standing

Family and Closest Kin

U'zhan Tia: Lily never expected to fall in love with two things: her best friend, and a Miqo'te. When she looks at U'zhan, however, she doesn't see a Miqo'te--she just simply sees him. While a rather happy and much-needed encounter between them had at first left Lily feeling awkward about where they stood, she feels she might be ready to move on past the 'fluttering butterflies' phase. The only thing is, while she knows how she feels about U'zhan...after all this time apart, how on earth does he feel about her?

Ella Razaul: Her sweet, precious baby girl. Lily absolutely adores her daughter and will do anything and everything for the infant, no questions asked.

Thiji Higuri: A Lalafell Scholar who is like a brother to her, Lily can't help but jest with and tease the otherwise stoic young man. Knowing full well his plight when it comes to women, she feels only a little guilty for chiding him with her thoughts on the subject. Only a little. In the end, she knows that the two of them have each other's backs, even if he sighs exasperatedly at the fact that Lily refuses to continue her training in conjury, oftentimes being the brunt of complaints that 'two Scholars should not exist on the same field of battle'. Lily vows and seeks to prove him wrong every time.

Paradyme Capellago: Lily will be the first to admit that she does love the man. He is sweet, kind, attentive, and fiercely protective of her and even more so of her baby, Ella. After the events of her trip into the Void, and those that transpired after, it is quite clear that the two of them are closer than ever. Yet, she still feels that the news she brought to him has put a strain on any relationship they could have, romantic, friendship or otherwise...she just hopes that all goes well in the end.

Kairo Fujima: Honestly, Lily has no idea what to think about this man. Once, they stated that they loved each other and she still holds true to that; though turn-taking of waxing disappearances has left her confused, and moreso hurt by the fact that, after finding out exactly why he's disappeared for so long, she wasn't even bothered for help. Still, she respects the man enough to give him his personal space, but Twelve help him the moment she gets impatient....

Lanza Razaul: Lily's estranged husband and the father of Ella. She hates him, she loves him; she wants him back, she wants him to fall down Witchdrop a few times. She's unsure of where she stands with him still and sends out mixed signals regarding this. She also never falters in bringing up that Ella is his child, and not Paul's.

Friends and Acquaintances

Rubh'a Jinjahl: Rubh'a, along with his mate R'edh, have proven to be some of Lily's very best friends. In fact, aside from U'zhan, they may very well be her best friends. After all, they've been there for quite a bit: her fallout and subsequent storm with Paul, the separation of her and Lanza. Hells, Rubh'a helped birth Ella. If that's not true friendship, she doesn't know what is. She commonly refers to Rubh'a as 'Ruby', but only when speaking about him while he's not around. She much prefers calling him by his full name to his face out of a sign of respect...she often wonders if just calling him 'Ruby' is a way of just being lazy in a reference, or perhaps she merely calls him his respectful full name due to the fact that he's older than her.

R'edh Molko: Rubh'a's mate and the complete package deal of Lily's best friends, R'edh's the more vocal one of the two Miqo'te and the one she hit it off with first. She wasn't quite sure why the two appealed to her so much to want to become friends, but she is glad their friendship came easily and swiftly, and she remains loyal to them regardless. Like Rubh'a, Lily calls R'edh 'Red' when not in his presence, and again much prefers to call him by his full name to his face out of a sign of respect and him being her senior, regardless of the tiny age gap.

Mitsuki Miyazaki: A young Hyur...Miqo'te...er, Lalafell that Lily had met a while ago, she had assisted the Midlander in brewing her only true successful potion: the one which gave her her memories back. In her book, Mitsuki's an all right person if not a bit quiet; she respects the short one's insightful nature and wisdom, even if she doesn't always follow the advice the Lalafell tends to give at the time, usually due to being heated or her mind being elsewhere at the moment.

Nebula Stardancer: A Keeper whom Lily met through a man named Paul Desmond, along with her mate, Ilwe'ran. In recent moons, she has come to associate with Nebula better and more fondly, partially due to the fact that the Miqo'te is close to having children of her own and Lily, being a mother herself, is all too happy to assist with anything the other may have need of doing or obtaining. While only slightly uncomfortable with the fact that the Keeper thought Ella to be Paul's as well, Lily only figured that she had the best interests of everyone at heart.

D'arca Ovraen: A Seeker 'prince' whom she is fond of. She responds well to him and looks up to him as a fellow arcanist and admires how well he holds himself. Oftentimes, she thinks to herself about how well he would have fit in in San d'Oria...if it weren't for...y'know...being a male cat.

A'shtola Oya: The Sagolii Snowflake, a princess in her own right and one who Lily admires, respects, and probably has a bit of a crush on--though she'd never admit that last part. She feels the need to protect the Seeker at all costs, effectively submitting herself to being A'shtola's 'knight'. She loves the way the Miqo'te so easily cares for Ella and is quite all right with letting her care for her child for extended periods of time.

Jael'li Erisha'an: Lily's boss in L'Atelier, and her personal combat mentor and refiner. He sees that Lily has more than just a few anger issues, and has actively told her that he will refine that anger into the sharpest blade imaginable. Paraphrasing and a bit of embellishment, but it's all the same. She respects his fighting prowess and almost feels bad when she has to fight him; though she regards it out of respect, she feels that he might take it as a personal attack when she holds back during their spars.

Xhosa Tauzeh: Lily's other boss in L'Atelier. She gets along with and respects the Keeper, but at the same time, she cannot help but feel a bit irked by the other's presence every now and then. The entire debacle with Paradyme left Lily with a sour taste in her mouth, and shook the foundation on which she was trying to build a steadfast business relationship with her boss.

Viri Dynna: Heavens preserve, Lily has no idea what to think about her shaky, former Magi ally. An AWOL Ascian, Lily actually does not hold this against her, being that she does not exactly hold Hydaelyn in the highest of regards; merely, she questions Viri's methods about getting the job done. The woman is not bad, by any means, but Lily does put forth the effort to keep the other at arm's length.

Ilwe'ran Hlaiwa: Once a good friend to Lily, his recent memory loss has put a slight, unwanted strain on their friendship. He was there for her at the darkest of times and helped to see her through it all; she only hopes that if it came down to it (and really, she hopes it doesn't), that she could help him in much the same ways he's helped her. Truthfully, she hopes for him to gain his memories back, as it just doesn't feel like the same Ilwe that she used to know.

Paul Desmond: The infamous Paul Desmond. Once, she considered him the best thing that had ever happened to her. Then, she considered him a mortal enemy. Now? She doesn't know what to think. With everyone bringing his name up in her presence and sometimes, people pressing on the issues of talking to him, Lily finally has broken down and wishes to speak to him again...for whatever reason, she does not know, but she has begun to finally push back. However, it seems that he has disappeared...where has he gone to, she wonders...?
