Appearance & Personality

Appearance
Standing at only 5'2.7" Lorelei is an extremely small Miqo'te, donning short-medium blue hair. Due to being a Keeper, his blue-tinted iris' barely distinguish themselves from his enlarged pupils, however due to his upbringing and the complete absence of hunting, his canines are considerably shorter than those of a normal Miqo'te. His tail is short and thin, and due to the lack of a tribe unbringing his legs and general muscularity are extremely underdevloped when compared to those of other Miqo'te's. He is skinny, weighing little more than a child Hyur, and is typically self-conscious of this fact. He tends to compensate for his lack of physicality through clothing, typically donning long-sleeved jackets and waistcoats whilst revealing as little flesh as possible.
Upon his left cheek lies a tiny heart-shaped tattoo, to which he refers towards as his birthmark. Discovered with it already plastered upon him as an infant, the Miqo'te is still unsure as to whether or not it was placed purposefully upon birth or truly is just a coincidential mark.
Lorelei prides himself in his clothing, tending to lean more towards the more vibrant and colourful over the plain. He tries his best to mold into the crowd of the Ul'dahn society, but often misses the mark as he attempts to follow the trends of the fashionable. At initial glance, one would most likely assume him to be of a higher class standing, yet closer inspection would reveal cheap fabrics, materials and rusty plastics in the shape of decorative trinkets. As he likes to think; 'Fake it until you make it.'
Personality
Despite being shy and easily intimidated, Lorelei is determined to make friends and to try and become more confident. He is always open to friendly conversation and will do his best to please others, even if it places him in an unfavourable position. Finding the general flow of conversation awkward, he finds any natural silences unbearable, determined to fill them with whatever he can spur from his tongue (despite its idiocricy) and often finds comfort behind fake smiles and laughs.
Even though outwardly being positive, inwardly he is overally pessimistic, often reading too much into things and taking them to heart. Should someone make an unfriendly comment, he would dwell on it, considering the ways in which should change to become a better person rather than brushing it aside. Overally naive yet paranoid of the people around him, he tries his best to fit in with the crowd. He would rather be a member of a group than a soloist, and as such finds any public argument or humiliation extremely upsetting, occasionally finding himself to the point of tears whenever mocked, even if it was in the attempt of a joke.
Although having a passion for weaving, he often finds himself questioning his purpose in life, and can often sink into a slight depression. He is sensitive, but determined to grow stronger.

Biography

Childhood

Discovered abandoned and alone in the surrounding rivers of Summerford Farms, Lorelei was saved from death and taken in by local workers. His adoptive family were entirely Hyur and as a child the Miqo'te was blissfully unaware of his differences, subconciously under the belief he was a Hyur himself until old enough to know better. As a toddler and child he was cared for entirely in the traditional Hyur fashion, with absolutely no introduction to hunting, defence or fighting. His father and mother both worked tiresomly on the farm and, as such, the young Miqo'te would stur a close relationship with his Grandmother. A former weaver hailing from Gridania, she would home-school him, persuading his adoptive parents that the skills of reading and writing would prove more helpful than farm-skills. Slowly but surely, Lorelei would begin to learn at an advanced rate, proving to be a skilled writer despite his age.
He would often wonder about his actual past, but rarely lingered on the thought.

Teenage

Lorelei continued to live a peaceful and nonchalant life on the farm, his private education blossoming under the tutorage of his grandmother. In his lack of general farm-hand abilities, the Miqo'te would instead weave wool from the local flock under his grandmothers isntruction, soon spurring a passion for weaving and creation. A fantastic weaver herself, Lorelei would often aspire far more towards his grandmother than his parents. He was blissful until the Calamity struck at the age of 18. It was then that the, previously quiet, farms were regulated with visitors from surrounding areas. In need for supplies, Summerford's goods were often under high demand by the reconstructors of Limsa Lominsa. It was here that Lorelei was first introduced to other Miqo'te's in mass, often those brought up in tribes. However, choosing to remain alone, he was falsly deluded in the belief that he was not so different from the rest of his race.
After years of blissful and peaceful tutorage, Lorelei had the support of his family to persue his passion of weaving at the Weavers' Guild in the city of Ul'dah. Spurred by belief and support, he departed the farms to try and better his own future.

The Kindred Era

Moving to Ul'dah triggered Lorelei's initial depression. He was thrusted from a peaceful and small community into a bustling city, his anxiety further fueled by the increasingly unfamiliar population of Miqo'te. Often disregarded for his lack of tribal name and unbringing, the Miqo'te finally realized just how different he was from the rest of his race. The difficulties brought on by this were much harder to deal with than expected, and Lorelei soon found himself alone and secluded. An inner hatred of his birth-mother began to form as Lorelei wondered how different his life would have been if he was raised 'normally' instead of merely thrown away, but in an attempt to make his adoptive parents proud he persued with his work.
Lorelei joined the Kindred upon arrival in Ul'dah in hopes of obtaining further income whilst studying. Despite feeling generally outcast from the majority of members, he managed to make a few friends and started to slowly find his feet. Eager to make everyone at Summerford proud, Lorelei dived directly into his work, weaving for tireless hours a day.
It was during this time that he slowly developed a romantic interest in N'velhi Tia, a previously tribal Miqo'te who helped introduce Lorelei into the true, traditional ways of Miqo'te past. Lorelei found inspiriation in the Tia, intrigued as he learnt more about his own heritage.
However, despite his perceieved personal social accomplishments, his insecurities continued to grow. Being surrounded by talented and stronger peers, he continued to spiral into a world of anxiety and depression. The Miqo'te, drunks and social exhibitionists of the Kindred and Ul'dah continued to feed the young weavers' thoughts and fears of being different - an inadequate outcast.
His year in Ul'dah reached a climax when the young Miqo'te was faced with a series of setbacks. The first being an open fashion competition in which, despite putting in his best efforts, Lorelei failed to place. Humiliated infront of his friends and peers, the Miqo'te further attempted to promote his weaves via writing fashion articles for the Ul'dahn newpaper, the Mythril Eye. Unfortunately, all of his articles were declined by the paper.
Ultimately defeated and lacking purpose, the Miqo'te abruptly handed in his notice to the Kindred, left the Weavers' guild and called off his relationship with N'velhi Tia. Without any communication to his colleaques or peers, Lorelei left Ul'dah and returned to Summerford farms, where nothing was heard from him for a number of consecutive months...
