Zakrin is a 30 year old Midlander that was born and raised in Gridania. Following the death of his family, and the burning of his home, he fled to Ul’dah where he took up the sword. He eventually joined the Immortal Flames where he remained for several years, reaching the rank of Captain. He worked for several Free Companies, meet and married his wife, and is now the father of twin terrors. He does his best to balance his personal and professional life.

Zakrin has been described as a cold and calculating mercenary who is quick to anger and even quicker to draw a blade. He is, however, capable of being civil and even being friendly towards those that he runs across. This kindness, however, is not to be mistaken for friendship. He is slow to show his true emotions, and even slower to allow people into his inner circle. He is not one to forget a slight against him, and has a habit of holding grudges far longer than most sane people would. Despite this, he is somewhat of a bleeding heart and will do whatever it takes to defend those who cannot defend themselves. He lives by a personal code of honor, and will fight to the death to protect anyone who he’s sworn himself to. Even those he hates. While his body has been trained for combat, he also possesses the mind of a life-long scholar, spending nearly as much time buried in books about ancient civilizations and magicks as he does training with his blade.

Zakrin stands at approximately 5’10” tall, slightly taller than average for a Hyur, and has eyes the color of true-cut emeralds. His hair is raven black, mixed with deep blue highlights, and is grown to about shoulder length. He has the build of a career soldier, all muscle with more strength than would be expected for his size. He always dresses well. His clothing, while not usually overly gaudy or showy, is noticeably tailored specifically for him and most frequently in various shades of blue. When going into combat, he’s been known to don one of a number of suits of armor, always in black. Whether geared for combat or a casual night out, it’s rare to see him without a sword at his hip or across his back.

Zakrin met Lahn at first after she’d suffered severe burns from an attack on her Free Company, crying and scratching at them as she sat in their garden. Even he’s not fully sure why he stopped that day, but he’s not regretted the decision once. They quickly grew close to each other, offering each other support though neither wishing to make a move until Lahn’s carbuncle forced the situation. Literally. Now married for two years with children, Zakrin’s settled into his new lot in life, and has found happiness he never believed he’d find, or ever be worthy of… and Twelve help anyone who would threaten it.

Isabelle and Mikael Aier, Children. (♥) - The Hellions.

Character's Thoughts: "Twins.. The Aier curse struck again, it seems. Isabelle, Mikael… I swear, I will give you a better life than I had."

Zakrin didn’t expect children quite so quickly, being told Lahn was pregnant a few short months after their wedding. That doesn’t mean however that he in any way regrets having them. Isabelle and Mikael have become the most important parts of Zakrin’s life, along with his wife. He treasures them, spoils them, and has already started perfecting the ‘dad face’ for when they start dating. Mikael follows in Zakrin’s Hyuran appearance, though clearly takes his hair and eyes from his mother. He studies the world with curious, yet cautious, eyes and has already taken to speech. He’s become a rather adept parrot of the profane, as well. Isabelle takes after her mother’s stature, though her hair and eyes match Zakrin’s. She’s much more mobile and courageous, rather enjoying meeting new people and getting into trouble. She’s also already taken to weapons, often tearing the knife from her favorite stuffed tonberry to wave in people’s faces.

Character's Thoughts: "He was an ass. He was an idiot. But.. he was my father."

Zakrin and his father didn’t get along from a very young age. He forced Zakrin into studying conjury and business against his will, and they often ended up in heated yelling matches that would go nowhere. Ultimately, he wanted the best for a son that was too much like his own father. Though Zakrin would never admit it, he does owe a lot to his father, and the man’s death struck him hard.

Character's Thoughts: "How she ended up with such a pretentious dick I’ll never know. But, she loved him. Maybe she saw something I couldn’t."

Zakrin’s mother was the one who did most of the actual business work for the family, while his father oversaw the fields. She had a mind for numbers, and started Zakrin on his education. She also was the one who encouraged Zakrin to do what he felt was right in his heart, rather than always what his father told him. When an argument broke out, she would always be the one to settle both Zakrin and Voth down. She, unfortunately, died alongside her husband when the family home burned to the ground.

Character's Thoughts: "Selas, my brother… I hate that I love you. I understand why, and it’s not your fault… But I can’t forgive you."

Selas is Zakrin’s older brother, and Lilian’s twin. His relationship with his brother was… rocky, always. He saw their father take more of an interest in Zakrin’s upbringing and future than he ever had in his own. Jealousy is a hell of a drug, and after attempting to mend the relationship through teaching Zakrin thaumaturgy, he eventually snapped. He’s the one who set the Aier estate ablaze, killing their family, and Zakrin sought to get his revenge for over a decade. Once he had killed him... Zakrin realized revenge is a dish that leaves you empty.

Character's Thoughts: "Lily and I lost so much time, each thinking the other was dead. Now we’re making up for it as best we can.."

Where Selas resented his brother, Lily always doted on him. She got along far better with their father than either of her brothers, and often talked each of them out of trouble. After the fire Lily fled in the opposite direction as Zakrin, to Ishgard, where she found and was trained by their grandfather, Rin. For nearly fourteen years she lived believing that Zakin had died with the rest of their family, only to find him alive after she’d sought healing in a clinic after being thrown off of her chocobo… named Zakrin.

Character's Thoughts: "Let’s… talk about something else"

Faye was the baby of the family, and as such, she basically got away with anything and everything. Especially with Zakrin. He loved her to pieces, and spoiled her rotten. He was by far closer to her than anyone else in his family. Her death, along with his parents in the fire, crushed him. He still hasn’t fully faced his emotions concerning the loss, preferring to divert attention elsewhere or just ignore it altogether.

Character's Thoughts: "Zanin is my Shield Brother, and my closest friend. Without him, I probably wouldn’t have lived long enough to meet Lahn. I owe him everything, and will stand beside him until my dying breath."

Despite his now undying devotion to his closest friend, Zakrin actually expected to despise Zanin the moment they met. He was too kind hearted, too willing to help, for it to be real. He expected to find a dagger in his back before the first moon had passed. He was pleasantly surprised, and slowly began to trust in the man more and more. Never once was he disappointed. Over the time they’ve known each other, they’ve fought shoulder to shoulder countless times, always protecting each other. Zanin now focuses more on healing rather than swordsmanship, but Zakrin still trusts him to have his back should the worst happen. Zanin served as Zakrin’s best man in his wedding, is the Godfather to his children, and is the one who found Zakrin’s sister, Lily, to be alive.

Character's Thoughts: "Etherie Etoluna… Twelve, there are times I just want to strangle her to death. But, she’s a good friend. Just, don’t tell her I said that."

Zakrin and Etherie have a strange friendship, starting off rather well up until Etherie withheld information from Zakrin that could have put their previous Free Company in danger. Being the head of the military branch of the company, Zakrin didn’t take it too well and ended up yelling at Etherie until she was crying, then she went on a multi-day bender. They’ve been rebuilding ever since. Despite outwardly saying he doesn’t care much about Ethie anymore, he’s very protective of her and always quietly watching to make sure she’s alright. He’s offered one of his spare rooms to her as she seemed to have no where else to go, though she tends to end up sleeping on the floor of the wine cellar for some reason.

Character's Thoughts: "Reinhold is… I’m not sure. He’s been a friend to me and Lahn, and offered his home to us to get away for awhile. He’s a good man, though he seems troubled."

Reinhold and Zakrin share a number of similarities, being born of money and living a life of military service against what their father’s desired for them. He found a fast friend in the former Dragoon, and a worthy rival to test his skills against. He’s been there to offer support and a different point of view when it was necessary, a simple fact that Zakrin respects immensely.

Character's Thoughts: "Abby is atoning for her sins the best way she can. She lacks self control, at times, but she has a good heart."

Zakrin was a bit surprised at how quickly Abby came clean about her heritage to himself and Lahn, however he didn’t judge her for what she was. She’s clearly left behind what she was raised into, and desired to become something better. They’ve reached a bit of an awkward position as of late, though, after Abby shot Nariko in the chest without proper provocation.

Character's Thoughts: "When I look at her, I see myself from ten years ago. Angry, hateful… looking for death. I can’t let her suffer like I did. I refuse."

Nariko first came onto Zakrin’s radar after she called Lahn ‘Dodo’ while she was pregnant. Obviously in a rage, Zakrin dragged Nariko into the Sagolii for an entire day of hard marching and sparring in the hot sun without breaks. The fact that she held up so well to the hellish situations he put her in, along with seeing a bit of his younger self in the girl, he took Nariko under his wing. Ever since, he has taught her how to wield her sword and shield more skillfully, and tried to temper the anger within her. He can only hope he’s succeeding.

Character's Thoughts: "He's a good man, from what I can gather, and a good friend to Nariko. I feel without him she wouldn’t be doing as well as she is, mentally. He’s always been there for our family as well and without him, well… I’d be a bit shorter.."

Lomnir is an enigma to Zakrin, a man completely separated from emotions that Zak’s not even sure he’s ever seen the man put any inflection in his voice or smile. Still, he’s done nothing but good for both his family and for Nariko. He also saved Zakrin’s life by reverse engineering an antidote to a poison he’d been infected with. For that, he is eternally grateful.

Character's Thoughts: "I should have done more. I should have done better. Now she suffers for my failure. I won’t let her down again."

Madison is, quite frankly, the first Sharlayan that Zakrin didn’t hate and the first to treat him with even a sliver of respect. He sees her work hard and strive to help those around her and under her care. He sees the struggles she endures in the aftermath of the Treants and losing her memory. It pains him, knowing he failed to protect her as he should have. He trusts her, more than most, and strives to lighten the burden on her shoulders in any way he can.

Character's Thoughts: "Kiri isn’t the most difficult person I’ve had to deal with, but there are moments that she is quite trying. Ultimately, her intentions are good, so I’ve no issues with her."
|
While he and Kiri haven’t had too terribly many interactions, they’ve all overall been positive. He has experience with dealing with people who don’t fully understand Eorzean culture, through Lomnir and Nariko, so he’s also able to figure out what she’s trying to say and do. Usually. There are times where he believes she becomes a bit too overprotective about things that she doesn’t need to be, and can’t help but wonder if that’s not just a holdover from her old clan and life in Doma..

Character's Thoughts: "I know he’s running from something, that much is obvious. I’m not yet sure what it is, but I’ll find out.. Then I’ll help him overcome it. People like us, we need to stick together."

Another more recent addition to Zakrin’s life, he quickly felt as though he could trust Gaston if a situation went sideways. In the aftermath of the Treant incident, he’s even more confident that Gaston is a man worth helping and keeping at his side. Gaston is clearly extremely skilled with his greatsword, and military trained to know when to strike and when to stay back and watch. He is quickly becoming a friend and rival.

Character's Thoughts: "He’s a damn good tracker, and no slouch in a fight. Sometimes I wonder, though, how seriously he takes things.."

Zakrin didn’t like Draymon so much at first, witnessing him blatantly hit on Lahn in front of him. After a few strained encounters, it dropped off and they could interact more casually. He respect Draymon’s abilities with a spear and at tracking. However, he feels that Draymon cares more about wasting his employer’s money than actually getting any work done. If that’s true has yet to be seen, though.

Character's Thoughts: "This man… Holy hells. I hadn’t had that much fun sparring someone in a very long time. There’s something else behind those eyes, too. He’s clearly more than he seems.."

Those that are overly joyous and cheerful usually unsettle Zakrin, making him think there’s something devious hidden behind. Not so with Nikolas. He shares his happiness openly with others, and somehow it seems infectious even to Zakrin. He also can appreciate the amount of skill the man has with a spear, making him believe between himself, Gaston and Nikolas, their company can stand up against anything.
