Mark of the Red Colts. . . The dark red tattoo on Anaguma's right cheekbone is shaped like an ornate dagger, very similar in design to the Red Misericordes he wields today. It was the emblem of the Red Colts, a small gang of young cutthroats that lurked in Limsa Lominsa's Lower Decks in the years leading up to the Seventh Umbral Calamity. Of the dozen or so members whom once wore the mark, only four now remain. See the RP Hooks/OOC Info tab for more information.
Ferrum Family Traits . . Anaguma's eyes are like the frozen landscape of Garlemald itself, as is immediately telling with all claiming direct relations to the Ferrum family. Receiving a glare from him can be understandably intimidating despite his unassuming build, a chill of ice with a hidden fire beneath. The Ferrum family are also known for their pale blonde hair, though Anaguma has mostly taken after his mother in this regard, much to his relief.

QUIRKS

  • Anaguma is fluent in Thieves' Cant and incorporates it into his regular speech, though it varies depending on who he is speaking to.
  • When heavily intoxicated and his wife is present, Anaguma will put "the moves" on her as if they've never met before.
  • He grins and flicks an ear cuff with his thumb to show off. But when threatening someone, he drags a thumb down the length of his tattoo, much like one might do so across their throat.

Anaguma isn't fond of the traditional guerilla tactics of his shinobi brethren, preferring the more rough and tumble approach of Limsa Lominsa. To help him accomplish this, his chosen arms are his Red Misericordes, the blades forged with high steel and of the necessary curvature required for parrying and acrobatics.

When pushed, the thin limbal rings in Anaguma's eyes will burn a bright crimson. But as of recently when pushed to his absolute limit, a third eye of this bright crimson and akin to a Garlean's will appear on his forehead. A symbol of both enlightenment to the shinobi arts, and a mockery of his true ancestry. To note, this is purely symbolism.

In terms of skill, Anaguma is a jonin-level ninja and thus can be placed into the same class as others of his rank like Yugiri Mistwalker, Karasu Redbeak, and Oboro Moonrise. Whether or not he is able to best any of these three in combat is not a matter to be explored, unfortunately. Careful research and diligence has been implemented in his concept and history, so while incredibly talented he is not by any stretch considered to be overpowered.

The Kenesa Clan
Mblank banner.png

Red textiles from the Far East adorn a Kenesa clansmen's clothing.

The Kenesa Clan are an incredibly small clan, and their history is entirely encompassed within the days leading up to The Battle of Ghimlyt Dark and its subsequent skirmishes. As Alliance troops mobilised through the The Peaks, a wounded Anaguma stumbled and took shelter in the shadow of Specula Imperatoris. Come nightfall and with only a small campfire as company, was the Kenesa Clan formed. Not to attain power or oppose evil, but to do whatever he can to protect his family. With possession of Otonabe's Soul, by association, can the Kenesa Clan trace its origins three hundred years to the era of Sasuke, the legendary progenitor to all Doman shinobi. Non-traditional and homegrown are words for what this clan best represents, an atonement for once shunning away one's heritage in favour of the local lifestyle. One can argue that this "clan" is simply a young family doing their best to raise a child. While technically correct, the people within it are no less than extraordinary individuals.

The sigil of the Kenesa clan, the Ke character of the Doman alphabet.

CLOTHING: Unlike those more notable groups such as the Fuma, Iga, and Nagae clans, the Kenesa Clan does not adopt an official uniform for itself. Instead the clan embraces its grassroots origins by making do with one's current possessions and sense of self. So whether it be cloth, leather, or plated armour, a member of the clan simply adorns their current wear with a red tapestry of Far Eastern textiles.

SIGIL: The Kenesa Clan adopts the Ke character of the Doman alphabet, the first syllable of Kenesa. Depending on the person, it can be interpreted that the character symbolises a parent and child, or perhaps a master and student. The four red markings flickering around the Ke represent the clan's four tenets, their use of red adornments, their four signature mudra, and Far Eastern magicks.

TENETS:

  1. Fortresses and castra offer little protection, your enemy knows you're in there.
  2. Be armed and ready for anything, but conceal your intentions.
  3. Strike the shepherd, and his flock scatters.
  4. Your identity is your greatest strength, but you win through your actions.

CURRENT MEMBERS:

  • Anaguma Kenesa, First Lord
  • Tessa Kenesa, First Lady
  • Genevieve Ephiny-Rei Kenesa

1552-1553: The Annexure of Doma, and the Journey West
Established twenty-five years ago as an advance post for the invasion of Doma, the castrum served for a time afterwards as an administrative center for the Imperial occupation. As repairs on Doma Castle progressed, its occupants relocated to the city, abandoning it to nature.

The Annexure of Doma

From as early as 1528 the Garlean warmachine had swept across the eastern continent, twenty-four years of subjugation to most, and utter obliteration to defiant. It was now that the Empire stood at the crux of total conquest of Othard, their final target now lay before them across the One River. So far all attempts to cross the threshold of the Dairyu Moon Gates had ended in failure, aetheric disruption by the collective efforts of Doma's geomancers and shinobi interfered with all airborne craft. A traditional approach had to be made and so a vanguard force was tasked with annexing the Yanxian hamlets along the riverbanks to provide the labourers for hasty construction of Castrum Fluminis, the Empire's spearhead into Doma proper. This vanguard battalion, led by young up-and-coming Centurio Atticus quo Ferrum, advanced through the region with ruthless efficiency. With his command, those who would not work on the construction were publicly put to the sword. As implacable his resolve, he was still young and prone to complacent behaviour once he grew comfortable with his position. Drunk on his own power and ruthlessness would he breach military conduct, on numerous occasions drinking, abusing the troops, but reportedly witnessed taking female prisoners against their will. One such victim, a fisherwoman named Homura Kenesa, found herself an unfortunate casualty of Atticus' heinous actions.

It was during this time that the people of Doma acted, they could not sit idly as the foundations were laid for their eventual demise. In the dead of night, a renegade force of shinobi unified and lay ambush to the unsuspecting Imperial forces offering their lives in an effort to free their countrymen and halt the Fluminis project. But whilst the shinobi possessed the element of surprise and superior martial prowess than their conscripted opposition, they were no match for their foe's numbers and technology. The casualties suffered by both sides were catastrophic by the battle's conclusion, and morale suffered greatly once news of defeat spread to Doma. While it was only a matter of time before the enemy would be at the gates, dozens of Doma's most respected warriors and teachers had all perished, and for naught. Atticus, almost humbled by the battle, learned firsthand that his lapse in ethic caused the embarrassment of a pyrrhic victory, his first ever. And for the next twenty-five years, he would not forget his exchange with one particular shinobi during the fighting, the one with the red eyes.

But unbeknownst to both sides, and hidden deep within the misty peaks of Yanxia, Doma had secured a minor victory. A shinobi named Soujirou Endo, the one with the red eyes, had survived and successfully rescued ten prisoners of war during the chaos, including a pregnant Homura Kenesa. Despite the convincing protest of his new charges, Soujirou would not escort them to the capital for it was inevitable that Doma would be soon lost to her invaders. For several days they begrudgingly followed him downriver to a hidden dock, where a provisioned Junk vessel was moored. A life free of terror and oppression would not be found in the Far East, they would only find it west.

The Journey West

Through the waters of Yanxia and the Ruby Sea did the Domans sail unperturbed of any resistance, morale was high. An alternative solution of seeking refuge in Hingashi was raised and with heated discussion was the motion rejected, the port remained closed in these days of the Othardian conflict, and the likelihood of an invasion once Doma fell was far too great. So the journey west continued and with a bleak fight for survival ahead of them, the inexperienced sailors began to turn to the kami for help. Soujirou was discovered to be in possession of an heirloom in which he claimed resided the soul of Otonabe during this time, and promptly becoming an idol of worship along with the kami of favourable winds, and flowing waters. While a religious man like many Domans, Soujirou knew religion alone would not ensure their survival and it was evident that worship had taken priority over duty. He could not blame them, his charges were but simple villagers that suffered at the hands of Atticus and his legion, especially that Homura woman. A second difficult decision came, the honourable man excising shrewd manipulation and his authority as the chosen wielder of Otonabe's Soul, he beseeched the Domans to earn his kami's blessing. It was a relief for the shinobi, as over the passing weeks their community collectively become quite adept as sailors and navigators, earning their right to survive this arduous journey. Morale was high.

Homura's pregnancy began to show during the journey and she lied constantly when asked about her child's parentage. Unfortunately she was not a particularly good liar and those onboard began to suspect dishonesty. But one was empathetic to her plight, an older man named Tanzan Arakawa who himself was currently caring for his infant nephew, Kazuma. He could see Homura seemed ashamed and even fearful of motherhood, and admitted he felt the same way caring for his nephew, whose parents were killed during the invasion. In preparation for her own child would Homura learn by helping Tanzan care for Kazuma.

Finally the Doman vessel spied the southern coast of Vylbrand during the 2nd Astral Moon of 1553, six full months after departing Othard. Homura began to display signs of labour as the vessel sailed towards the port city of Limsa Lominsa, but in these straits were the Domans swiftly spotted by pirates. The vessel was pursued and within the hour, the boarding spikes were fired and the deck was swarmed by those ready to pillage. But they did not find any plunder nor much of a crew, instead the prize was a single man dressed in an exotic garb, fiercely defending a frightened group of people, one of whom in the midst of giving birth. The captain took pity on the refugees and towed the small vessel into Galadion Bay, their crew's chirurgeon tasked with attending to pregnant woman.

The Domans finally docked in the Lower Decks of Limsa Lominsa, their journey across the seas finally at an end, but it was bittersweet. A child was born to Homura late into the night, a boy with bright blonde hair and eyes the colour of ice. Everyone now knew who the father was, not a word needed to be said. Homura couldn't bear the shame, let alone gaze at her child without being the reminded of the monster who had taken her innocence. Handing the boy to Soujirou, she silently gathered what little she had and disembarked, none aboard had the courage to stop her. Doman tradition for bastard children dictated they be put down, but none had the heart to perform the deed with the trials and tribulations they had all experienced this past year. And so the boy would be raised alongside Kazuma. He was given his mother's surname, Kenesa, so he may one day find her again. As for his first name, Doman tradition also demanded a child be named after an ancestor of their father, Soujirou volunteered the honour and after his own father, named him Anaguma.

FAMILY
Tessa Kenesa, The White Witch.
Tempy.jpg
An unlikely spouse for a person of Anaguma's breed, and someone he so vehemently despised for a time. "Tessa" is the woman he can't live without, and the mother of his daughter. Though the nature of their personalities can spiral their relationship out of control at times, everything Anaguma does, he does so for Tessa.
NPC : Genevieve Ephiny Rei Kenesa, Infant daughter.
VrUnknown.png
"Eva" is the daughter of Anaguma and Tessa. The girl has her father's crystal blue eyes, and her mother's vibrant blonde hair. The nature of her birth hints she may be gifted, though Anaguma's priority is to raise her the way he never was. Something he was denied but longed for in his childhood.
Aurelia quo Ferrum, Half Sister.
Aurelialodestone.jpg
The only legitimate child of Atticus and the commanding officer of the House Ferrum military cohort. She met her younger brother once only, and feels incredibly slighted that her father seems to favour a scornful, illegitimate bastard child rather than his own daughter.
NPC : Atticus sas Ferrum, Father.
VrUnknown.png
In his lowest moments Atticus is the man whom Anaguma holds responsible for everything that has ever gone wrong in his life. The noble Garlean has tried numerous times to build a rapport with his estranged son, though even in the best of times Anaguma reluctant to accept his offers.

NOTABLE RELATIONS
NPC : Xanatyr Blacke, Necromancer.
Xanatyr.jpg
A Highlander Hyur whom ran the The Ala Mhigo Home for Women and Girls out of his own estate, a refuge for women affected by the Imperial annexure of Gyr Abania. For years the charity was but a front to lure in the meek and siphon the life out of them. Wanting to see the man brought to justice, Tessa Kenesa dispatched Anaguma and her ward, Ephiny Zora, to confront the necromancer and eliminate him. The pair succeeded, however Ephiny and several dozen of Xanatyr's victims perished. The sole survivor among them a girl of thirteen summers.

Rare rumours & quotes

  • "Jimothy, was it? Let's recap on your testimony here. You and your...lads as you put it, began to harass a patron of the Drowning Wench. Wishing to avoid confrontation the man left, but all eight of you weren't quite finished and followed him. Alright and from there is where I struggle to follow...You say you all surrounded him, attempted to mug him, and threatened to leave him bloodied on the cobblestones. So he...so he split himself into three, beat all eight of you, and took all of your gil for his lady of the wind? Listen, Jimothy...I'm no fool. You and the lads downed enough ale to see three people, and in the throes of alcoholism stumbled to Anchor Point where one of you had the merry idea of donating your purses to our navigator, Llymlaen...And of course, you all started beating each other senseless. That'll be another sennight in the brig for each of you." - Yellowjacket Sergeant.

Plot Hooks
Anaguma is almost exclusively found in Limsa Lominsa, but will often travel to the settlements of Aleport and the Moraby Drydocks. He will not leave Vylbrand unless there is a need to, so potential gateways for an RP scenario include but are not limited to:

COMMON: Mealvaan's Gate Anaguma is often hired by the Arcanists Guild to act as a labourer to load/unload the ships that go to and from the city-state. Your character could be a sailor, a fellow employee, an arcanist, or simply a bystander.
COMMON: Lominsa's Lower Decks The dagger tattoo on Anaguma's cheek represents the mark of the Red Colts, a pre-Calamity Lower Decks gang consisting of roughly a dozen teenagers, their claim to fame being loitering and petty theft. Perhaps your character will recognise the mark. If not, Anaguma can also be found here conducting business with the Fisherman's Guild.
UNCOMMON: From the Far East With his ice blue eyes and brown-blonde hair, Anaguma's name is the only thing that insinuates he has Far Eastern ancestry. However certain characters may recognise the subtle tells that may give away his identity as shinobi.
RARE: Hiding from Garlemald A communication from Garlemald has been broadcast to all imperial forces currently stationed in Aldenard and Vylbrand. "Tribunis Angusticlavius Atticus sas Ferrum to all Imperial channels and Castra. Anaguma Kenesa; mid-twenties, five and seven tall, blue eyes, brown-blonde hair, dagger tattoo...is to be apprehended and submitted to the closest Castrum in proximity to his whereabouts for immediate extradition to the Capital. He is not expected to surrender, approximately 50% chance of both fight and flight. Lethal force is strictly forbidden and personally guarantees the remainder of your promising career in Castrum Ferrum's Black Cells. Out."

Important Notes for Prospective RP Partners
I follow a strict but fair code of conduct, it's important that roleplay needs to be somewhat consistent between two parties to ensure a quality and fun experience.
Other characters: Aurelia quo Ferrum is my WIP alt.
Combat: This depends on the characters, but I typically follow the honour system when fighting another character that shares combat expertise. If your character cannot fight and there is a scenario involving combat, I reserve my right to swap to freeform. I will play him as arrogant and patronising to justify why he may lose fights he would normally win, to explain the randomness of dice rolls. See the Combat tab for more info.
Lore is law: A lore-strict character and lore-free character just don't work properly. I can understand the world of FFXIV is somewhat lazily written and I sympathise with those whom have a particular fantasy they want to play out. But we need to adhere to the rules of this universe as it is the one constant that our characters share, no matter how different their lives are. On that note I do enjoy clever lore bending, and filling in any missing pieces. Honest mistakes or lack of knowledge are perfectly okay and I'm happy to assist you in course correction, I've been there.
Creative standards: It's good to have some form of source material available, whether it be an RPC like this one, a Carrd, or a Tumblr page. I have put a lot of love and effort into my characters, and I prefer to RP with like-minded players. Be prepared to back up key plot points, and remember that all actions have consequences. I detest those that blatantly rip off other characters and storylines.
Writing standards: Please put some thought and effort into what you post, and make use of proper grammar. Please don't be verbose unless there is a need for it. I typically post only two or three sentences to keep smooth and engaging roleplay.
Acceptable Themes: I am good for most mature and dark themes, but please ask before extremes such as erotic themes or disfigurement. I will not roleplay death, or anything involving minors.
