GENERAL INFORMATION

Erimmont Chevalier (Pronounciation: air-e-moan shə-ˈval-ˌyā) is a Wildwood Elezen of mixed heritage from the Black Shroud. He's worked with a number of Free Companies in Eorzea, but currently holds the title of physician with the Radical Dreamers group. He is also an erotic novelist, who publishes novels under the nom-de-plume Shroudheart.
Noteworthy Information
Though the man wears glasses, they're more for decoration than function. Oftentimes, he can be found without them or taking them off so that he might better view his adversary.
Should another directly look to cause issue, the man is quick to act. If words fail to subdue the threat, he's not at all adverse to drawing blood or ending a life to put an end to it should the need arise.
Polite as he may appear, the man has a brutal way and almost animalistic view of life.

APPEARANCE

Twin scars decorate his cheeks in an oddly symmetric fashion, seeming far too orderly to be earned in honest combat. Brilliant crystalline hues intently study each and every minute detail of his surroundings, ever aware and ready to act should the need arise. When it comes to attire, the man has little care for heavy plating, often favoring mobility while presenting presenting himself fashionably. Rather plain looking reading glasses often hold the bridge of his nose, seeming to add to his dashing good looks and silver-tongued charm.

PERSONALITY

Though he presents himself as a gentleman, there always seems to be an underlying sense of restraint as though he's keeping a part of himself shackled away from the public eye. Silver-tongued and often found to be charming by those of the fairer sex, he seems to admire the female form regardless of race. However, those who know him personally may well describe him as a caged beast. One willing to play to the public eye until one oversteps their bounds and earns the sting of his bite.

HISTORY

PRE-CALAMITY & POST-CALAMITY

Life Lessons
T'was a fine day, the twenty-third of the Third Umbral Moon when Erimmont Chevalier took his very first breath of air into his lungs. Yes, the boy had lucked out that day as he found himself born to the father whom served as a wealthy and respected adventurer along with his mother... whom, sadly, did not make it through the strain of his birth. Though let it not be sad the woman died in agony. Upon seeing the fruits of her labor, the dear woman laid herself to rest with a smile on her face, knowing her time had come.

The father did all he could for little Erimmont. Taught him the finer points of archery and the joys of the arts when he was still young. The only mistake he made, of course, was allowing him to search through his mother's old collection of novels where he stumbled upon the first of what was to be many saucy texts read by the man: "The Passionate Seas", the tale of a vicious and rugged pirate by the name of Captain Wood and how he sailed the seas, stealing away a rich man's bride... only to find himself longing for her as she stole away his heart and found herself ravaged by more than just his charm.

Such a tale began his addiction to such novels. Most of his time was spent indulging in the guilty pleasure. Every so often, his father would call upon him to aid in a little adventure or two. It wasn't until Monty had reached the age of twenty that things took a turn for the worst. The task was a simple one. Get an unmarked package from point A to point B. Nothing out of the ordinary, of course. Many saw adventurers as a means to get their 'goods' where they needed to go. This task, however, was seen to be a set-up of sorts. As father and son walked the path, they soon found their way blocked by what looked to be a crew of bandits. Not uncommon.. until they found both sides surrounded. Before they could turn to flee, an arrow found the heart of his father, dropping the man who's last moment was spent reaching out towards his son. The last words exchanged were few: "Run, boy! Run!"

Run he did, winding his way through the path, taking detours and covering his trail as his father had taught him. Even as tears found themselves falling from his eyes, the boy never stopped until he reached home. The funeral went as planned. The body of the man had been gathered from the roadside. A small blessing through the tragedy. As they spoke the rites to lay him to rest, a hand touched upon Monty's shoulder. A woman of such alluring beauty and charm that there was little he could do to resist her. His heart lay open and vulnerable as she took it into her hands to nurse his inner wounds. Though his love for her was swift, drawing him towards marriage was a far bigger task.

It was five years after the passing of his father that he finally agreed to it. The wedding was to be a grand one indeed. Though his family was well respected for their efforts to aid those in need, they were also well known for the amount of wealth they had brought together through their success. Monty stood before the hidden vault that held their riches, a budget in hand as he drew out the required coin when his world suddenly turned very, very dark.

There was a dull ache at the back of his skull when next he awoke in a chair. Twisting his wrists, he found them bound firmly behind him. The room itself was poorly lit and only one figure could be seen amongst the many he could hear. The figure stood hooded and shrouded in a garb that he had only seen once... and it was enough to tell him how very foolish he'd been. As the hood fell, the face of his bride-to-be stood smirking over him with a blade in hand. While he mentally prepared himself for the worst to come, he instead found himself being lectured.

Lectured for how much of a fool he was. How difficult it had been to finally get him to open that vault after years and years of prodding. Before he could react, he found that blade she held strike him once across each cheek, deep enough to leave a horrid scar on both. The one on the left was to remind him of this day and how his own stupidity had doomed him to the life he was about to lead. The one on the right was to remind him never to waste the time of his betters. As the vault was left empty and the rest of them shuffled out, the woman leaned down to whisper one last thing into his ear. "The pleasure of killing your father was all mine, lover."

His world went black once more and it was to the sounds of a carriage in motion that he awoke. Darkness had long since fallen over the road. The man drawing the carriage gave a short and crude laugh before informing the man of what was to become of him. They couldn't have him go spouting shite about the death of his father or his betrayal by the woman's hands. No. Erimmont Chevalier was to be made into a slave. The news was unsurprising at this point. Given the shock of all the recent and dark events, the man couldn't bring his heart to care much more.

Still, he wasn't about to give anyone the satisfaction of having their plan go without a hitch. Discovering a large shard of splintered wood, the man buried the thing into his own flesh in order to work it into the ropes that bound him. Though his blood spilled heavily and he was left scarred by the ordeal, he managed to sever the rope and escape out the back of the wagon. Left nude and without much in the way of weapon, he had but one choice. His father's words rang within his head once more as he took to the darkness and made his escape. Once more, he covered his tracks and made use of all the knowledge his father had bestowed upon him until he had found his way home.

There wasn't much to be done when it came to charges. They had already made their way far out of the law's reach. Left without anything to his name save his collection, he began anew. Through the events that had happened and the help of his novels, he realized there was no such thing as love. Love was meant for fairy tales and saucy texts. Reality had no use for it. With that in mind, he allowed his home one final goodbye before taking his leave to live life deep within the Shroud, away from any who might try to draw him once more into the life that he abandoned.

SINCE CHARACTER CREATION

Recent Times
Drawn out into the civilized world once more after years of seclusion within the very depths of the Shroud, Erimmont Chevalier returned with a vastly different outlook on society as a whole. The few he interacted with were greeted with the polite and well-mannered gentleman he once was, yet his views were skewed and beast-like in their brutal nature. Having served the Vylbrand Academy for near a year after his return as both professor and recruiter for their number, he turned his back upon them when discovering their views were by no means healthy. Where he was willing to kill an innocent man to protect those close to him, they would rather let him live and endanger themselves and all they cared for in hopes of tasting glory. A world of black and white within their eyes was a myriad of greys in his own.

Soon finding himself in the company of the Riskbreakers, Erimmont found himself charmed by one of their number. Offering his skills in their battle against the Garleans, he soon found himself left in a state of stagnation. Asking the Steward if he might offer his aid by studying the stars and using his limited knowledge of Astrology, he was given an astroscope to observe the skies on their behalf. Upon discovering the Red Star, he was sent to Ishgard under the guise of a citizen to study their records and talents for astrology and astromancy. Having always held an affinity for the stars, his studies have taken him to a point where he may mend the weak and injured with his newfound talents.

Near a year has passed since his entrance within Ishgard and he has finally returned. However, after a recent revelation as he sought the guidance of the Lifemender Stump, the man has found himself caught in an internal war. While he wishes to mend the weak and injured, he knows full well that if he's to prevent the cycle from repeating, he must adopt a more protective nature. Doing so risks releasing the 'caged wolf' that he's so desperately tried to keep hidden away from the world as a whole, thought too dangerous to risk letting it free.

RELATIONS (PC)
Nai Ruahki. ( )
The Seeker once held a special place within Erimmont's heart as his most dear friend, one he would love from afar so long as she was safe and content. Sadly, she has all but lost herself in the manipulations of another. Despite his attempts to convince her to see reason and take care for her own well-being, she has since cut ties with the man. When she sought to strike him for speaking ill of her master, he placed his firearm against her chest. There is no trust between the two and should she or her employer seek to draw near, he has no issue in removing the life from either of them.
Syranelle Ironleaf. ( )
An odd bookworm of a woman with an incredibly rare variety of wisdom that only makes Erimmont all the more curious about learning more regarding her. While he's fully aware she's not what she portrays herself to be, it only serves to draw him towards her given that he feels they are one in the same in a sense.
Kiipa Nulstat. ( )
A rather energetic woman Erimmont met one night while fishing within the Shroud. While at first he thought her a nuisance for scaring away his meal, she soon proved herself to be much more. A medic and currently Erimmont's 'therapist', she wishes to pry apart and understand the man. Curious and interested to see if she might do so, Erimmont plays along while keeping his own cards close to his chest..

◢ Player Character Rumors - Some of these are more rare than others!
"Mm, what do you want to know of him, and what will you give in return for such knowledge?" She pauses and chuckles darkly. "I will say this freely of the man: He has a vast myriad of skills, and should not be underestimated thusly." — Madelaine Lachance.
"It's not so often you run into an elezen so well-versed in writing. Have you read anything of his? It's really quite brilliant." — Vi Lindon.
"Erimmont is a unique individual. I count myself lucky to be as close to him as I am. He's a very fierce man, more so than most would give him credit for. Tis' a fool who thinks him shallow because of interests and pursuits, and doesn't bother to delve deeper than the surface he presents. He's a man worth knowing." — Glioca Sargonnai.
"He was supposed to be an experiment, in some ways. Pick apart his mind, find out what makes him tick. Instead, I ended up leaving that at the wayside somewhere along the line. I wish I could help him more than he claims I do. He's precious and dear to me." — Kiipa Nulstat.
