<p>Josiah doesn't know much of where his ancestry originated from. As far as he knows, his family had lived in a small Corerthas hamlet for a few generations. For as long as he could remember, his father had been missing from his life. When he asked his mother, or any of the other villagers, he was told he was a great adventurer, albeit fairly unknown. Throughout his early life, he was told of some of the deeds his father preformed, always leaving him awestruck. Whenever he asked where his father was, the unanimous reply was that he was living another adventure, making the world a better place for his son and collecting coin to bring back. Every year Josiah was hopeful his father would come back, with stories of trials and tribulations, as well as enough coin to put him and his mother in the lap of luxury for the rest of their days. But he never did. Still, Josiah hoped and dreamed, and because of that, he made the decision to follow his father's footsteps.

Most of his childhood was uneventful. There were only a dozen other children in the village, however, even at a young age he tended to keep to himself, not fully comfortable around the strangers until enough time had passed. Most of his early education came from his mother. While it was nothing sophisticated, she was able to teach him most of the basic knowledge about the world. How to read and write, mathematics, and common history about Eorzea. However, the most important lesson she was taught him, was compassion. While the stories of his father's selflessness introduced the idea, his mother always made sure he knew what it meant, and how it was done. Whenever he fought with another child, or he caused any trouble, she would always guide him with a kind, sometimes strict, hand.

To both better the world like his father was doing, and to make him proud once they met, he began to offer his hand to anyone around the small village, once he was old enough. From farming to housework, Josiah did whatever needed to be done, and while he usually didn't ask for compensation, he typically received some form of it. Through years of saving his gil, he was finally able to afford a blade and passage to Ul'dah, the same city his father headed for, at the young age of 16. Although everyone, including his mother attempted to stop him, they also knew the kind of man he was, and would become. So when he showed his unyielding determination, they gave in. When the day came to leave, a large amount of people gave him small parting gifts. Some gave standard adventuring tools, some gave food, and other gave much needed gil, should the worst happen and he needed a way back home. Most important of the parting gifts was what his mother gave him. Before his carriage left, his mother pulled him aside from the rest. Without saying anything, she put something into the palm of his hand. When he opened his hand, he was met with an old silver ring, a small sapphire gem embedded in the center. He looked to his mother with a furrowed brow, but she quickly answered. It was the only thing left behind by his father. She wanted him to never forget what goal he was aiming for, to never forget where he came from. With a few tears and an embrace exchanged, they parted ways. In all of his life, Josiah felt closer to his father then ever before.

The sight of Ul'dah threw him for a loop. Always accustomed to the slow paced life of the hamlet, the bustling city offered winding streets and dark shadows. Had it not been for a certain man, he would have fell victim to a petty con. The elder man gave young Josiah a harsh, relentless scolding once he was safe. When the man demanded the youth to return home, Josiah met him with eyes set ablaze. He told the man he would never return home, not until he became a shield for the innocent. While the man initially laughed in his face, causing Josiah some anger and embarrassment, the old man looked him over a few time in silence. When he was satisfied, he told Josiah to follow him, telling him that there was a way to reach his goal. Josiah hesitated, but after a quick though, agreed. After a short, silent walk, they arrived at a place Josiah had never seen before. What startled him the most was the clashing of steel, and the cheering of crowed. It was the first time he had ever seen a gladiatorial arena. The man stopped and told Josiah to watch the fight that was taking place. He did so, watching the fighters partake in a dance of sword and shield play. It had been so long since something left Josiah awestruck. Seeing his face, the man laughed once more and motioned Josiah to continue walking. With another small walk, they found themselves in a room filled with others like the gladiators, honing their skills and bodies. It was there that Josiah found out the man who saved him was also one of these fighters, and a rather skilled one at that. He gave Josiah an offer. At the current state he was in, there was no way Josiah could even protect himself, let alone others. So, he would take the young lad under his wing and train him to be a skilled gladiator just like him. It was going to be hard, and some days he would wish for death, but if he was so determined to become a hero of peace, he would need to earn to power to do so. Without a second though, Josiah agreed. He knew the man was right, and if he passed that opportunity up, another one would never come. Thus began the most brutal years he had ever faced.

It was after the second year of his training that the Calamity took place. Just like with most, he wasn't able to remember much of the event, only fuzzy bits and pieces. The man had become a father figure to him, showing him what it means to become a warrior, not only in skill and body, but in honor as well. Once the city started to regain itself, Josiah, as well as other gladiators from the guild, took the time to honor his passing and mourn. Josiah was hit the hardest, damning Dalamund and the Twelve. Although filled with depression and rage, Josiah focused his energy to furthering his training, and as time passed, the anger and sorrow subsided, knowing that his master would have never wanted him to carry those feelings for long. After four years of his training, he became one of the best gladiators the guild had to offer. It was then that he turned his sights to the Sultansworn. Since the calamity took place, he had heard they were even allowing free adventures join their ranks, and once he felt he was prepared for another grueling trial, he made his way for the Hustings Strip.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Josiah Covey (Pronunciation: Jo-sai-ah Co-vay), Josiah, as many others in his line of trade, is a wandering man who seeks to aid whomever he's able to do, instinctively using his life, or coin, in order to do so. As of late, he's been seen primarily near Revenant's Toll in Mor Dhona, investigating pleas of help one after the other.

APPEARANCE

The Highlander stands roughly at six fulm and three ilm(6'3), weighting a little over 275 ponze, most of the weight being from his musculature. His skin is a dark olive shade, due to his heritage, as well as the time he spend outside. His black and blue hair just about touches his shoulders, with most of his bangs pulled back save for a small patch between his eyes. From far away, his irises seem to be completely jet-black, however, with closer inspection, one would see they are a darker brown. Encircling his jaw is a rough beard, trimmed to about half an ilm.

PERSONALITY

Calm. Carefree. Compassionate. Towards almost everyone he meets, Josiah give off a calming aura. He typically keeps his words to himself, but shares his smile to all around him. When left to his own devices, Josiah spends most of his time enjoying the world around him, or tending to his gear and Chocobo companion, or with a book on rare occasions. He's not one to start conflict, but he's more then glad to end it, usually taking on the role of a mediator. However, if he sees someone whom he sees as innocent about to be harmed, he will always intervene. With those he's more comfortable with, he presents a more goofy side, tending to joke around or roughhouse with his companions. Naturally, going down the path of a paladin, Josiah has a respect for authority figures, and when presented, will fit the role of a leader as best he can, usually with easy success. However, despite his respect towards authority, if he sees someone being wronged, he will go to their defense, effectively earning him the reputation of being a vigilante.

Voice Claim: Can't really think of one off the top of my head. ^^; Think deep, smooth bass.

COMBAT & WEAPONRY

During combat, Josiah's primary focus is to protect his allies, happily becoming a human shield. While his offensive capabilities are lacking, his ability to intercept attacks for another and taking whatever is thrown at him is excellent. Since he was about 16, he's been training with sword and shield, only a couple of years have passed since he took up a conjurer's staff. He's always interested in the different styles of combat, be it physical or magical, but most time is spent on honing his skills as a paladin or a white mage.

BACKSTORY

Josiah doesn't know much of where his ancestry originated from.
