Chip colored.JPG
Chip is a mischievous kitten who's always eager to have fun. His playfulness makes him act like a little kid, even though he's well past his teenage years. When he was banished to the wilderness, he developed a habit of talking in third person to keep himself company.

Although he's a cute, innocent kitten, Chip keeps a dark secret caged inside. It is the only explanation for why he lives alone and not in the Tribe he was born into. He pretends to act squeamish and scared at the sight blood, due to it being one of the main triggers of his other side.

A darker and much more sinister beast lurks deep within Chip, a being conceived after exposure to Tainted Aether. Whenever it is triggered, something inside the cheerful kitten snaps. His pupils dilate and his eyes almost turn black. Claws sprout from his fingertips, his teeth lengthen into fangs, and a fierce bloodlust overtakes him. He will fight and kill endlessly until someone knocks him out. Afterwards, when Chip awakens and is back to his normal self, the first thing he’s normally greeted with is a pile of bodies and an alarming amount of blood on his hands.

The occurrence of his Berserk side has happened twice since its first awakening when he was young. Despite the gory aftermath, Chip has been able to recover from each disturbance for the most part, and has since lived a relatively quiet life in the wilderness of La Noscea.

He has not forgotten about the beast that’s caged inside, nor the horrific aftermath when it was unleashed. He has, however, developed a tentative sense of hope that perhaps the monster that exists within has disappeared forever. Maybe…it was left behind in Thanalan?

“Chip is not too keen of danger. Chip enjoys it better when it is peaceful. It’s good for Chip.”

A P P E A R A N C E

Chip rock2.png
Chip is a Miqo'te of short stature (5.22 fulms) and a scrawny, lithe build due to his constant diet of fish. Although he has no idea how old he is, he's got a youthful face and thinks himself to be at least 17. His uncombed mane and fur are fluffy and purple, often decorated with bits of twigs and grass.

He wears cotton pants that are frayed on the ends and have large holes where his knees are. A dirty and stained gray shirt hangs over his bony frame. Chip is always seen wearing the shirt in order to cover his back. Long and ragged scars from the distinct lashing of a whip mar his back, and although he keeps them hidden, he’s not exactly ashamed of them. He simply doesn’t like having to answer the question of how he got them.

Chip loves to run around barefoot, but sometimes he can be seen wearing old leather boots. Due to living out in the wilderness, he has the appearance of a shipwrecked victim and dirt coats every inch of him.

Overall, he is naught but a picture of a wild animal, albeit a tamed one. For despite his appearance, the Miqo’te’s silvery gray eyes are always aglow with cheer and his face always brightly lit by a smile.

"Come back 'ere! Chip wants to know your name!"

F A V O R I T E S

Grilled Trout:. Living off of fish for as long as he could remember, Chip has perfected the art of grilling a fish in a frying pan. His favorite type of fish to eat is trout, and the sheer enjoyment he has while eating it is quite worth it to him.
Aldgoat Milk. After a kindly merchant passed by and offered a bottle of it in thanks for the fish, Chip constantly hopes to be able to get more someday.

Q U I R K S

Nicknames. Chip doesn't usually know a visitor's name at first contact, but that doesn't stop him from giving them a name regardless. He normally chooses a word or phrase that describes his first impression of them.
Third-Person. Isolation does strange things to people. Chip is no exception. In order to keep himself company, he developed a habit of speaking in third-person. Side effects include random bouts of giggling and and infectious amusement.
Immature. The age of Chip is unknown, but due to the way he acts, most have him pegged at around 15. Chip thinks he's a little older than that, despite what his actions might say. Ever the cheerful optimist, it's not unusual for Chip to seem completely like a child.
Compassionate Heart. Chip is both blessed and cursed with an often overwhelming desire to help those in need. Even if he comes across someone who stubbornly refuses his help, Chip will still do whatever he can to ease their suffering.

L I K E S

Making Friends. It's no wonder Chip enjoys this, especially since he lives rather a lonely life. The more friends he makes, the better, as it fills an emptiness inside him that he is only cautiously aware of.
Fishing. At first, it was just an easy way for getting a meal. But as Chip honed his skills, he has discovered he enjoys the work.
Jokes. He's sometimes a bit of a prankster, often playing jokes on himself in order to brighten the mood whenever he's feeling down.
Exploring. La Noscea is quite big and Chip has plenty of years ahead of him to become familiar with his permanent home.
Just Having Fun. There's no sense moping around in the dirt!

D I S L I K E S

Being Alone. Chip makes the best of his current situation, but carries inside him a great disapproval of the emptiness.
Punishment. There are some things he'll never be able to forget. They day of his banishment is no exception and the sharp crack of the whip still rings in his head.
Blood. The sight of it can send him into his Berserk state. He pretends to be afraid of it, but the real fear is for the monster that lurks inside.
Death. Chip is not as concerned with his own death as with the deaths of others. He refuses to think about those he has killed and hopes the peace within him will remain forever.
Fighting. Another trigger of his Berserk side. If Chip is caught in a desperate situation where self-defense is the only way out, he will most likely awaken with someone else's blood on his hands.
Weapons. It could almost be said that Chip has a "phobia" for the harmful items. They are used to disrupt peace, and therefore Chip does whatever he can to avoid them.

  • Leather bag - contains a small gil pouch that barely holds enough for an airship ticket to the nearest city-state.
  • Worn fishing rod - well-used elm fishing pole. Given to him by the fisherman and his wife.
  • Makeshift tackle box - old wooden box that contains small bits of tackle. More often than not Chip just uses worms burrowed in the ground.
  • Iron frying pan - chipped and battered, the frying pan has seen better days. Faithfully used, it was another gift from the kindly fisherman.
  • Wooden music box - Chip's first Starlight gift, presented to him from Skycat. The box is pale and seamless, with the name "Chip" carved upon the lid. When it is opened, the song plays, and the glass will glow in a repeating transition of sky blue to midnight. Music Box Song

"Chip doesn't k-know any monsters."

It calls itself Harrow.

A being forged of wind-aspected crystal, tainted by the chunk of Dalamud that decimated the Burning Wall. This poison resides always in Chip, kept tightly sealed within his subconscious. But every so often, Harrow is unleashed, and the boy falls under its power.

The beast's strength comes from Chip's emotions. The more upset, agonized, or tortured the boy is, the more powerful Harrow will be when it emerges. They have a mutual relationship, where the host and parasite live and breath together. One cannot live without the other. At least, for now, Chip is stuck with the tainted aether within himself.

O'anna Xhiji | Mother : Chip never knew her.
O'ctan Tia | Father : It takes a lot for Chip to dislike someone. His only memories of his father include a hole in his heart that was never filled by his love, and the cold look in his eyes when Chip was flogged and banished from their Tribe forever.
O'xhiji Nunh | Tribe Leader : He whipped Chip and sent him away without even batting an eye. Chip holds a great dislike for the Mole Tribe's Nunh and hopes they will never cross paths.

P C

/ Xeiz Feine | Skycat : Their bond has been reforged, and with it, a completely new understanding of each other. Skycat is Chip's first true friend, and the only one he's met that could understand the monster that he harbors deep inside. Skycat has all but reassured the boy that he's not alone, and Chip wishes to never let go of the sun.
Relie Naulaux | Noisemaker : His opinion of her changed drastically after a dinner of fish. Chip learned Noisemaker is actually capable of nice things and he thinks she has a nice smile. After her unexpected change into a Lalafell, Chip is convinced that it was his fish that caused it. He fears the day when he, or anyone else, might turn tiny.
M'shi Mahji | Scribbler : As an uninvited guest aboard the Danse Macabre, Chip was wary of her at first. She was hardly fazed by Skycat's annoyance and happily did whatever she pleased. Chip expected the two to turn on each other, but instead a certain tolerance was formed within the magic of the piano. M'shi delighted Chip with her talent of music, and even composed a song for him in the short time they were there. The boy eventually cooked her a fish, and has since then decided M'shi can be considered a friend.
Frostfeather | Skycat's Wings : Having never met a griffin before, Chip wasn't sure what to think of the massive cat-bird at first. However, after an offering of fish, Chip has found the creature to be fascinating and loves the color of her eyes.
Mitzi | Chip's Present? : The little critter should really develop a better method of alerting others, having bit and slapped Chip a number of times to warn him of incoming danger. He's still not quite sure what to think of the pesky nutkin.
Omen | : A Voidsent who deserves no nickname. Chosen to take upon the form of a Gargoyle and tirelessly obey his Master, Omen is seen as another one of Skycat's companions--painfully so. As one would expect, the demon is devoid of emotion and will say things most would consider painful without so much as batting an eye. Unfortunately, such an experience befell Chip, and he no longer wishes to tolerate the Voidsent. He has done naught but cause him an extreme form of pain.

Childhood
Sad chip.png

Born in Thanalan to a wandering Tribe of the Mole, O’kihp Tia spent most of his youth alone. His mother died shortly after his birth and his father was too busy fighting as one of the Tribe’s warriors to pay attention to his only son. The other members of the Tribe raised O'kihp as best as they could, but he was always lonely.

This particular Mole Tribe was bred for only one purpose: war. The Tias that made up most of its members were skilled warriors and often involved in numerous skirmishes between neighboring Tribes. Despite their small size, they were a savage and the other Tribes learned not to mess with them. Many instead, took a particular liking to battling against the Amalj'aa.

When the young reached seven years of age, it was customary for them to begin training as warriors for the Tribe. From the very start, O’kihp found himself averse to the brutal teachings of his Tribe. He felt no awe towards his father, nor did he want to grow up like him by any means. Unlike those that had come before him, O’kihp had been born with a heart that yearned only for peace.

O’kihp had barely delved into his many years of grueling training when the Battle of Carteneau/Fall of Dalamud occurred. The infamous catastrophe upset the balance of nature and the destruction rattled his Tribe mentally and physically. Fights periodically broke out as everyone prepared for the worst. Chip's Tribe was no longer the most savage and wars between them and the neighboring Tribes became substantially more brutal.

Day after day, O’kihp would watch from his usual hiding place as the blood grew thicker and thicker. When most of the warriors had fallen, woman raised only for breeding were thrown into the fray for sport. Children were ripped from safety to be viciously dismembered. It was naught but a gory nightmare.

And then, something inside O’kihp snapped. Spurred by the ceaseless imagery of death and carnage, a beast awakens within him. O’kihp goes Berserk for the first time and kills most of the enemies that had surrounded them. Before he can go after the few remaining members of his own Tribe, however, a sharp blow to his head robs him of his senses and the endless war finally comes to a close.

It was his father who finally subdued his enraged son. When O’kihp awakens he finds himself in chains and secured against a wooden pole. In front of him stood his father and the Nunh. Behind them, what remained of their Tribe. The bodies and blood from the aftermath had been removed, but a sickly stench still hung in the air. There was also a distinct tang of fear.

O’kihp can only listen in horror as his father recounts what had happened the day before, pointing at him with cold eyes as he pins the entirety of the blame on his son. The Mole Tribe fought skirmishes, but they did not permit senseless slaughter. After the infamous events of the Calamity, the Tribe had found themselves questioning their brutal methods, rattled by the appalling massacre that had replaced their once proud Tribe. A unanimous decision was made to lessen the killings, as long as their Tribe remained safe. However, a scapegoat was needed to prevent another occurrence from happening again and all eyes turned on the one who had almost annihilated them all. O’kihp was naught but a monster and needed to be disposed of. Curiously, the option of death was not brought up. O’kihp’s father claimed it was because too much of that had befallen the Tribe already. Instead, O’kihp is publically flogged and disposed of in a ship bound only for one destination: La Noscea.

Teenage

The ship disposes O’kihp on the outskirts of La Noscea, where he is forced to survive in the wilderness. The chains are removed from his body, but the wounds he had received during his Beserk rampage were still quite fresh and unhealed. Alone and abandoned, O’kihp is overcome by a dark depression and awaits death as he watches the sand around him turn crimson.

Fate had other plans for him, however, and he awakens in the company of a kindly fisherman and his wife. Under the comforts of their hospitality they treat his wounds and offer him a love and warmth he had never received growing up. It rekindled a fire in his empty and cold chest, reigniting a child’s dream of peace.

Here in La Noscea he was safe from constant wars.

During his recovery, O’kihp dropped the identity he had with the Tribe and began a hesitant new start at life under the alias of “Chip”. The fisherman and his wife delighted themselves with the boyish Miqo’te and he did whatever he could to see them smile. It gladdened his heart and his soul sang with a happiness he had not felt his whole life.

After his wounds were completely healed and his vitality restored, Chip was taught how to fish by the fisherman. He was given an elm rod, a makeshift box of tackle, and was instructed to catch meals for them daily. At first, his attempts were quite comical and he was ever so determined to make meals out of the tiny minnows that he had managed to bait. Eventually, however, larger fish were snagged by his pole and Chip was taught by the fisherman’s wife at how to properly cook them.

His life seemed nearly perfect with them and Chip longed to stay with them forever, but he could not shake the nagging sense of fear of losing himself again. He did not want to accidentally kill these wonderful people. And so, eventually, Chip reluctantly said goodbye to the first family he ever truly accepted. They did not question him about his decision, much to his relief, but allowed him to leave with the fishing rod, tackle box, and frying pan in reminder of the life they had shared together.

Present
Chip home.png

Thanks to the kindness and love that were nurtured into Chip under the care of the fisherman and his wife, the Miqo’te had developed a new outlook of his situation. No longer was he depressed and desperate for the waking nightmare to end. The beaming sun that shown down upon La Noscea also touched him now, and it filled him with a radiant joy. Venturing to an area where merchants and caravans often passed through, Chip began a prosperous life of helping others. He granted them free meals of fish in exchange for a tale or two of their own adventures. In this way, Chip learned about the world without ever having to leave the island in which he was banished upon. Gradually, the area around Chip grew more crowded and more and more people came to stop by and munch on his infamous fish. The numbers never bothered the Miqo’te; it only made him happier. The loneliness he’d felt at first vanished under the constant company of others.

And then the rumors began to spread.

Slow and deadly was the poison that stole into the hearts and minds of the travelers that roamed through La Noscea’s wilderness. Fear of a murderous monster that lurked in the dark sent travelers at an urgent pace.

No one dared stop to rest, lest the monster might catch them.

Chip’s world grew dark as the prosperous life he once knew fell apart into naught but a bittersweet memory. His encampment became cold and lonely as no one came by to talk to him anymore. Loneliness plagued him, but this time he was determined to not let the sun become completely smothered. With great effort did the Miqo’te force himself to remain ever the optimist. He developed a habit of speaking to himself in third-person in order to fill the aching hole in his heart. He made up stories in his head and befriended the neutral creatures that lived around him.

» —————————————————— —————————————————— «

Determination has driven Chip into making the best of the situation he has now found himself in. Despite the lack of visitors, Chip’s motto is ever the same:

 "A story for a fish."
Chip pose4.png
Gossip travels quick between pirates, merchants, and the folk of Limsa Lominsa alike. One particular tale speaks of a lone Miqo'te who frequents the Wilderness of La Noscea. Some say he's harmless. Others say he's got blood forever stained upon his hands. They can all agree, however, that this particular Miqo'te cooks some very tasty fish. Do you dare search for him?

Hedgemole.jpg

The Tribe of the Mole originated in La Noscea, where many of the beastkin, in which the Tribe was named after, resided. However, a subspecies of the mole migrated into Thanalan, after an unintentional stowaway was found upon a ship sailing to Ul'dah. This species, known as the Hedgemole, was adopted as the Tribe's beastkin. They are known to be aggressive and extremely territorial, which are the key traits of this particular Tribe.

Location:

The Tribe resides in the southern part of Drybone, alarmingly close to the encampment of the Amalj'aa. Skirmishes are a common occurrence between them and other wandering Tribes. Due to their viciousness, however, more often than not is the Tribe of the Mole fearfully left alone.

Before the Calamity: They originally lived closer to the area known as the Burning Wall, but after it was destroyed by a shard of Dalamud, they've migrated away and currently take up residence in Drybone.

Hierarchy:

Note: These names are intended for OOC only. Please ask for further details, or if your player character is unintentionally listed.

Calamity Aftermath: After the infamous events of the Calamity, the Tribe found themselves questioning their brutal methods and grew fearful of their placement near the decimated Burning Wall. A unanimous decision was made to lessen the killings. Full-scale war will be allowed only if the safety of their Tribe is threatened. Smaller skirmishes are still accepted and widely popular among the Tribe and its neighboring beastkin.

Naru Embracing The Light
Artist: Gareth Coker
Context: Character Theme
Notes: This song is practically perfect in every way. Beginning with a bright, cheery intro that mirrors the start of meeting Chip, it escalates into a flood of warmth driven by the clear and resonating melody that beats within his very soul. Quite suddenly does it then break off on an unsettling note, suggesting an unspoken darkness that lurks deep within.

Last Hope (Closet Cover by Jeb Havens)
Artist: Paramore
Context: Character Theme
Notes: The lyrics are perfect! I feel like this song does a great job of describing how Chip struggles to remain hopeful and positive all the nights he lives alone. It's just a spark, but it's enough to keep me going.

The One You Feed
Artist: Crown the Empire
Context: Character Theme
Notes: This song really expresses Chip well. If not for it's heavy rock sound, I could almost say it'd be a song Chip would willingly sing! In the wake of my broken dreams. In the dirt and the dust and the days that felt like weeks. I found the person that I'm meant to be. He lives alone, in an empty camp with skeletons of his past. But Chip found hope under the care of a kindly fisherman and his wife. 'Cause when I felt like giving up. When death was closing in. I shut my eyes and black out the darkness with light from inside. He's learned to put the darkness deep into the cobwebs of his subconscious and endure life with unending joy and optimism. No matter what happens, the boy always recovers that spark of hope that burns inside him.

I'll drown in the water if I listen to the sound of cruel laughter. I let the stones fall to the ground. They don't know a thing about me. And still the wolves are crying out. And I hear you say, "I'll take you away". He becomes the monster that they seek. This Drug In Me Is You
Artist: Falling In Reverse
Context: Harrow Theme
Notes: The song a demon croons to its host. The drug in me is you. Harrow entertains itself on Chip's emotions. And I'm so high on misery. Can't you see? The fact that the boy can never remember the destruction that Harrow creates both annoys and delights the beast. I got these questions always running through my head. So many things that i would like to understand. The parasite and its host are always undergoing an internal war, where no side ever wins.
