Theme song for Paul

Sorrow (From Fire Emblem Awakening OST)

Paul in one paragraph

Paul Desmond was a man of honor and loyalty. He commanded respect through his stature, strength, and wealth. He was a paragon of virtue; a knight of the Goddess. Presently Paul has removed himself from his paragon outlook and is impelled by something else; a far greater cause than he can accomplish within the bounds of the law.

  • Desmond Argonar

Through hours of laborious venture into the world, Paul's strength is reflected through his chiseled body. Medium length, unkempt yet styled blonde hair shines over his tan body. Average height, around 5'8".

People who are sailors or lived a life of sea-faring will immediately recognize Paul's body as that of sailor's. In addition to his bodily appearance, his eyes are deep blue, nearly matching the sea he was raised on.

A pendant (pictured below) is worn around his neck. It has never been taken off and he has worn it since he was eighteen years of age. To him, for some reason wearing it gives provides a very nostalgic feeling. He can remember a young girl. She gave it to him while they were at sea together. This young girl is the one that plagues his dreams and he will stop at nothing to return her to his life.

Paul Desmond is a man filled with darkness and sorrow. Yet, he is not corruptible; with a very strong mind he follows his own moral compass. Paul is calm and collected; focused. His driving force is his anger, fear, suffering, and pain. He has no weakness. His emotions are sealed tight. If the right person came along, he may open up. Though Paul does at times spend the evening with a random woman for mere pleasure, spend the night consuming rum, or simply find comfort in a female companion, if the right woman opened his heart he would swear his loyalty. Indeed, when Paul finds the one woman that plagues his dreams, it is unwavering loyalty that she will have.

Note: While it is not emoted, Paul's expressions are sorrowful. He puts off a very dark aura by his presence. Nothing magical, of course. It would be more of an uneasy feeling. His mood is very melancholic and is very obvious just by looking at him. If he smiles it is always a sad smile. Any laughs are never of happiness and portrayal of happiness is false. Unless, of course, the aforementioned is described as "genuine" or "kind." This becomes less and less apparent as a conversation progresses. But if Paul is observed alone, the above is difficult to not see. As of late, Paul has been lifted from his down spirits and gloomy outlook. It is all thanks to someone he found who is very dear to him. While some sorrows remain, others are gone.

Paul Desmond's main military strength is his sword. He lent his blade as aid after the Calamity, scouring the land of evil Imperials and feral beasts. Though not violent in nature, Paul will not hesitate to pierce the body of a threatening foe, especially one who disrespects women. A man of a few different talents, Paul will assume whatever role necessary to make sure he protects the Grand City States. Paul himself is nearly a martial weapon and the way he fights is almost like an elegant dance. His movements are precise and calculated, even suffering blows in order to expose his targets to the fatal edge of his blade or a crippling move in close quarter combat.

Paul Desmond is a military man. He served the three Grand City States during and after the Calamity. Currently he serves the city states as an inspector that specializes in heinous sex crimes and child abductions. Before that, Paul was a sailor. His father owned a fleet of ships used to charter goods. After Paul's father passed away in sleep, he inherited the fleet. It was at sometime during the Calamity that all of it was lost; everything Paul loved was gone in an instant with no recollection of what happened and who he lost. All he knew is that something was missing and he knew naught of what it was.

Please feel free to add your own gossip under PC!

Common Gossip (Easily overheard)

  • "Inspector Paul Desmond? Don't let his appearance fool you. He's never lost a case. So what if he's always drinking? I swear it makes him more insightful." ~ tavern patrons, market vendors, reporters
  • "Paul Desmond drinks me under the table every damn night. I come in, he's half-way through a bottle. I leave after three hours and he's half-way through a third bottle!" ~ tavern patron
  • "He sure as hell killed his uncle. Did it like he was some animal, too. Then he pulled someone out of a fire, right in the street! Didn't see who it was. Must have been dead, whoever it was..." regulars of Aleport [This is very common to hear in Aleport]
  • "The blonde sailor? I see him in taverns a lot. Always drinking, always drunk..." ~ regular patrons at taverns
  • "He is a longtime seaman, a rootless wanderer." ~ tavern patrons, city-state citizens, villages, essentially heard anywhere.

Uncommon Gossip (Somewhat less common to overhear)

[While this is uncommon gossip, if a character has been in a scenario to hear the gossip, then by all means use it =)]

  • "Yes, he's investigating that masked vigilante Viper. When Paul catches up to him, and mark my words he will, that's going to be one hell of a fight." ~ Reporter for the Harbor Herald
  • "Women? I wouldn't exactly call it a soft spot for Paul. It's more like, 'Take a woman's dignity and Paul will take your life. Then he'll probably take the woman's dignity for himself.' Well don't look at me like that, Paul can take my dignity any time he pleases..." ~ some of Paul's female 'victims'
  • "Paul was top in all his classes at the academy. He received the highest training in martial arts, weapons, and military tactics. He's been decorated for bravery in the line of duty nine times, been promoted eight times, and has never lost a case. He has no wife; no children. His only dedication is to his work. He's our best." ~ Merlwyb
  • "His methods are brutal, violent, barbaric, and unlawful. But he's just too damn good for us to get rid of. That's why you won't see him on our official roster. Officially he was relieved of his command. Unofficially..." ~ Maelstrom commanding officer

Rare Gossip (Very difficult or rarely overheard)

[Since these are said by people, they can of course be heard. However, they are rarely ever said and may not be used without permission. Thus they will not be acknowledged in RP.]

  • "Y'sariel? That's his dearly beloved." "No, it's the woman he calls out in his sleep, Ara or something. Her death haunts him down to this day. There's no cure for that kind of love." ~ sailors in Limsa's Anchor Yard
  • "Ah, Onryo (vengeful spirit). His spirit is full of vengeance and was clearly displayed in Doma. Oh, Paul Desmond? Never heard of him." ~ Doman refugee.
  • "He told me love is a weakness that should be cut out. If you ask me, he was the one who killed his wife. But seriously, don't ask me..." ~ Maelstrom associates
  • "It's strange he hasn't caught this masked vigilante, Viper. You'd think he would have some clue, some arrest, something... Maybe Paul is the Viper?! Right, our lead detective is the masked vigilante..." ~ one of Paul's squad mates.
  • "What happened to my arm? Well... Paul said, 'I'm going to ask you a few questions and if I don't like your answers I'm going to cut off your arm... with a spoon.' I'm sure you can figure out the rest." ~ One of Limsa's armless prisoners
  • "Paul Desmond... Now that is a name I have not heard in a long time... a long time. Know him? He worked on my merchant vessel some years ago. It was several years before the Battle of the Silvertear Skies." ~ elderly man in Limsa Lominsa
  • "He reminds me of those stories I hear about the drifters and wanderers... Their eyes are filled with sorrow and even though they have lived a full life, they look really young." ~ Doman refugee
  • "It's strange when he killed in battle. There was no fear of death, you could see it in his eyes. It actually scared every one else." ~ war comrade

💑 Love Interest     Romantic Interest (Including Past)     Sexual Desire     Platonic Love      Family      Good Standing     Neutral     Poor Standing    Deceased

💑 Arabel: A strange woman from Paul's past. She has been the subject of many of his dreams. Though he never knows her name in the dreams, he feels this woman that he sees there is very important. At first she was just a shadow in his mind that was cast by an intense love from long ago. Then it was a void; an empty feeling inside. Because of what Desmond and Arabel shared his heart yearned for that love again. This is why he has had so many women over his life: His heart was searching for that love although his mind could not remember. Deep down his subconscious knew she was out there. Now she has been found, Desmond’s memories of her are whole again, and the intense love that started so long ago resumes, at least for Desmond. There is much that still needs to be done if Desmond and Arabel are to be truly whole again.

M'lissa Keht: Lissa, as Paul calls her, was wanted for murder. But he knew better. Something didn't add up. When Paul, in his inspector role, interviewed Lissa, it was apparent to him that she was a victim in something far larger than just being framed for murder. During his second interview with her near Apkallu Falls, he found himself acting on impulse and gave into passion. The passion escalated to love and caused Paul to love Lissa more than another. In time, he came to be called Lissa's light, her own words. He had never been this before nor had such an impact on someone's life as he did with her. If their relationship could be summed up, it would be: "There was no one logical explanation as to why. It just was." Now, however, it simply is not.

Aiden Blood: It was a chance meeting, really. When Paul took a seat next to an acquaintance by the name of Elf at the Quicksands, the man seemed annoyed by this young woman and had to leave. Paul felt a pat on his shoulder as Elf said, "But Paul here will answer any questions you have." So... Paul took the empty seat and introduced himself. It was shocking to Paul how easy it was to speak with her and how much they had in common. After spending a couple evenings together it became clear that Paul could not ignore what he was feeling toward Aiden. While there had been no admission of love, there was a connection that begged further exploration. As it was explored, it became evident that this is indeed love. Now that it has been uttered in the air between them, Paul and Aiden confess nothing but affection for each other, so much so that he has asked her to be his wife, which she happily accepted.

Sadly, however, this came to an end as Paul was unable to fulfill his vow.

Liliana Stone: Known to Paul as Liliana de Nazareth, he was swept up in her beauty almost immediately. After spotting her at a lone table in the Quicksands, he kept her company (or maybe it was vice versa) for the morning. The two seemed to really hit it off and a love between them soon grew. It lasted several moons and Paul even proposed to Lily, which she happily accepted. Sadly, however, as the old adage says, "All good things must come to an end." Thus, this intense romance ended as suddenly as it started. In order to leave this sorrow behind, Paul took to the sea and was absent from Eorzea for two cycles.

Lara Stroggy: Met by a small chance through their travels in the forests of Gridania, it was a brief and innocent meeting. Then two suns later Lara happened upon Paul near Bentbranch. Something sparked there and after a few suns of a slight cat and mouse game, the two were romantically entwined like the grape vines of Wineport.

Over the next dozen suns, their love grew immensely and at an exponential rate. But the unthinkable happened. Against a sworn oath to never forsake her, Paul left Lara for another. Through this unbecoming action, Paul broke Lara's heart and subconsciously broke his own.

Recently, through the strands of an ironic fate, Paul happened upon Lara in the North Shroud. In an effort to repay in a small way what he did to her, Paul offered Lara back her family heirloom. She refused as it was a gift. Paul set it back at his left arm where it remained since she initially gave it to him. While he doesn't wear this ribbon any longer, he does keep it as a reminder to never stray down such a tumultuous road again.

Paul has not seen Lara for several moons. Like all others before this, it seems the fire of this flame has flickered and coals extinguished.

Rihxo Matoi: Paul met this miqo'te before the Calamity. It was really a chance meeting. He was on his way to the Drowning Wench when she collided with him and nearly fell off the upper decks. There was something about this young girl that caught his attention and he tends to watch over her. Even after meeting her in the Quicksand he has not placed her in his past, but something about her tugs at his memories as he tries to piece this mysterious feeling together. He again feels the need to keep an eye on her, especially after what she shared with him. Indeed, any harm to Rihxo (physically or emotionally) is tantamount to touching Paul's eye.

R'miah Tosh: Yes, another female miqo'te. R'miah was met in Wineport when Paul was out for a stroll. He also met some members of the 81st. This miqo'te seemed to catch Paul's interest. As he by chance met with her a second time, the interest was not unfounded. There are a couple mysteries around her that he offered his assistance with. Aside from that, he found her surprisingly insightful and most endearing.

Odette Saoirse: One who itched at Paul's curiosity, Odette is a highlander female that Paul didn't hesitate to flirt with when first meeting and, at times, may still make suggestive comments. Her views and morality have influenced Paul's decisions on more than one occasion. She is one that Paul knows will not question his deepest views on justice and how to attain it.

  • [The below stories are told by the victims in the story and by witnesses. If your character interacts with Paul, feel free to use these stories IC. Of course, they may not know every detail. But use what you would like.]

Dreams of the Times Long Since Passed

Paul can be anywhere, really. He's from Limsa Lominsa, so is there often. His work takes him all over, but he'll always be at a bar consuming rum when he can.

What I am looking for/interested in:

  • RP Friends!
  • A good RP plot.
  • RP partners!
  • People to investigate. Paul is an inspector of crimes involving sexual assault, kidnapping, and subsequent murders involving the aforementioned. I'd love to put Paul on the case!
  • Romance RP!

What I will NOT RP:

  • ERP. Period.
  • Character mutilation, including, but not limited to: Killing, scarring, attacking, stabbing, hitting, clubbing, antagonizing, emotional tumult, and more
  • Complete breakage of lore. Honestly, I don't know it all, nor do I really care to. Just don't bring me a character that can fly and is superhuman.

Other Notes

Forgive me if I don't use Eorzean terms. It's enough to remember my character's age and height and weight in real world terms, let alone Eorzean. I follow the KISS principle; Keep It Simple Stupid. When my character speaks, it will be in a way that is easily understood by anyone. Not all understand archaic English. While I avoid terms such as "awesome" and "gnarly" I do use somewhat modernized English.

((This sample is what OOC text will look like.)) Although I use that format, it's only when I'm in RP with someone I'm RPing with. If I send someone a /tell and we aren't engaged in RP, it's pretty obvious it's OOC without (( )). I mainly use it in Skype RP as I copy and paste it for stories and I'd like to easily filter out the OOC content.
