Latest Update - 2/19/2016: After adding Chapters 11 and 12, I finally started writing the Paciscor Journals. Sadly I couldn't figure out how to make another table so crammed in all the currently existing entry table headers in the existing one. Would really like someone to teach me how to use these.

Interesting note on dates: First off I consider for the sake of practicality, 1 rl day = 1 game day. Because Eorzean calendar is designed to match real life equivalent and we currently stand on 2016, I mixed my dates up and started considering the in game dates as the third year of the 7th astral era (Specially when the game celebrates Christmas and New Year equivalents just as we do). However if we go by the FFXIV anniversary event, which happens in September and celebrates the 'rebirth' of the realm, then the last anniversary was the second year, possibly the second year of the 7th astral era. That means that this year's September would be the third, which makes the dates on some of my events a little screwy. I'll figure something out!

♦ History & Paciscor Journal Entries

As their name would imply, Paciscor Journal Entries is a collection of writings that unlike the Story Chapters, can be found and read.

[edit]

Reinar Paciscor was the son of a wealthy tradesman from Garlemald. More precisely, the Paciscor family hails from a provice neighboring the original Garlean homeland. Reinar was the youngest son of the family and from a young age was considered by his father to be his heir. As such, young Reinar was instructed in a myriad of subjects such as etiquette, economy and trading. He would often travel to distant lands whenever his father personally attended to a particularly tricky business arrangement, and it was through these travels that Reinar first explored Hydaelyn.

As it happens Reinar developed different ideas to that of his father: At the age of seventeen he enroled in the Garlemald Institute or Magic and Magitek. Unlike his Garlean Pureblood colleagues, Reinar had an unusual affinity to aether, arguably more than the average Eorzean, even, as he claimed to feel, faintly but surely the disturbances in the aether that surrounded him. This 'sense' had been discovered and developed during journeys that took him far from Garlemald, and it was this that first aroused his curiosity about aether and its mysteries.

During his time in the academy, Reinar was particularly close to a small group of students whom proudly considered themselves the cream at the top of the faculties, a claim that wasn't entirely without merit given the grades of some of its members. They remained steadfast friends and colleagues, studying, practicing and even developening projects together during Reinar's stay at the institute, until an incident during a study project critically injured one of them. This put considerably emotional strain on the group, forcing them to split. Reinar left the institute a few months later, disappearing from public eye a month after that.

To this day Reinar Paciscor is considered missing by Garlean authorities.

Or Doctore Ackerman as he was known in through out Thanalan, was a scholar and healer that appeared in Ul'dah around five years after the Calamity and set up a small public clinic in the city's inner areas. His offer of service at no or very low costs quickly earned him the favor of the people and refugees. In contrast, the local nobility and merchant lords--whom at the time faced increasing discontent from unruly refugees whose demands increased by the day--held the Doctore in contempt at best, finding his practice very unbefitting of Ul'dah.

It was around that time that he became associated with two local and promenient Ul'dahn figures, one of which was Roswyn Valhuri of the Eclipsis Free Company, a Miqo'te whose strength and willingness to aid Reinard led to the beginnings of a strong friendship between the two, one that would prove to be of great aid to Reinard when his clinic was caught up in the middle of a corruption scheme: Up to that point Reinard's popularity and legitimacy had prevented any ill will directed at him and his practice to become anything beyond just that. That changed when a wanted man stumbled his way into Reinard's clinic, seeking both healing and shelter from the local authorities. Moved to assist the ailing man, Reinard both healed and concealed him, making himself a target of an investigation which saw his business being torn down. Though Reinard was eventually found innocent of his charges due to lack of evidence against him--Thanks to the aid of individuals like Roswyn and her colleagues--the damage to his clinic, both physical and to its reputation, had already been done.

Reinard took it as a sign that he had lingered in Ul'dah long enough, and though he'd made friends in the City State, he opted instead to take a trip to parts unknown to himself, where he might learn more about Eorzea and its people.

Reinard's travels took him through the Black Shroud and in time all the way around to Vylbrand. It was there that he met a group of explorers and researchers who called themselves Eorzea Unearthed. Their mandate was to rediscover Eorzea, claiming the continent, ravaged by the fires of the Calamity over five years in the past, had changed considerably over as a result of it. Reinard felt as if that idea fit right in with his own interests and quickly signed up with the group, only to be roped into their most recent project; A study of artifacts found in an expedition to Coerthas.

This study led him to meet many of the people in the group as they gathered to catalog and discuss the different items they had unearthed, among which was a gem of particular characteristics that resonated strongly with the surrounding aether. It was not all it resonated with for one of the researchers, a midlander by the name of Tera Stone, had acquired an unhealthy fascination with the object: Upon contact the gem lit up the aether around it so strongly that it threatened to burn the woman's hands, and it was a quick intervention by others present in the room that avoided greater injury. Though advised against it, Tera chose to take the gem and study it further, and Reinard, equal parts concerned for her health and intrigued by the event, offered his assistence.

Together the pair traveled La Noscea for a time, studying the effects the gem had when it resonated with strong sources of aether, one of which being an aether current that flowed through Upper La Noscea and around the recently discovered Wanderer's Palace, an experiment that resulted in a flasy and explosive display. Though they worked together for a while, Reinard always felt like Tera knew more about the gem than she was letting on, and that her interest in it went beyond a professional curiosity about it. Indeed, evidence would suggest his instincts were right when Tera disappeared, taking the artifact with her and leaving that mystery unsolved.

Through out his travels Reinard's mind often wandered back to Thanalan and a single individual residing in Ul'dah. Roswyn, whom secretly led a criminal cartel, had found her way into his graces, and in time into his heart. It was the reason for many of his visits to the jewel of the desert in spite the infamy that his earlier exploits had earned him. But the young Miqo'te was taken, by a person known to Reinard none the less, an individual whom in the future would adopt the name Sathanas, but at that time was no more or less than a well-spoken 'businessman' with dreams too big for his own good.

As a way to stay close to the woman he longed for, Reinard agreed to take part in her man's plots, a dangerous endeavor that men wiser than Reinard would steer clear of. Yet Reinard's mind was pushed aside by his heart's desires. Desires that almost moved the young arcanist to corrupt his own work as a means to get rid of the obstacle between himself and Roswyn. Whether he did nor not, the result of a single man's ambitions saw a door to the Void opened, a soul lost and a heartbroken Miqo'te. His part in the endeavor--and most importantly Roswyn's heartache over losing the man she loved--bred unimaginable guilt in Reinard's mind and forced him to work against his own wishes, all for the happiness of the woman he loved. Through his efforts and many nights of study in the Ul'dan Ossuary, Reinard re-opened the door into the Void and rescued his rival, bringing the two together again.

Whatever happened between Roswyn and her beloved afterwards escaped Reinard's notice and memory: Though in time he found it in himself to declare his love for her, it was ultimately rejected during an emotional scene upon Easter Thanalan's Highbridge, one that haunted Reinard for the following year and drove him away from Ul'dah for just as long. For the second time in his life, Reinard Ackerman 'fled' Ul'dah and busied himself with the rest of Eorzea, this time seeking to mend his own broken heart.

Reinard considered his time with Roswyn and her beloved to be a personal failure in his part. The heartache was a symptom of a grave error in his person that he spent the following year trying to solve. In his mind, for all his wisdom and talents and knowledge, Reinard lacked presence. That was what separated him from other guys. 'Guys who got the girl'. To remedy that, and in no small part to put this most recent trouble behind him, Reinard bounced around Eorzea, doing what he did best; Learning.

He did not focus on books and arcanima however, but allowed himself to spread his wings and approached a broader array of subjects. He tracked down and approached the Rogues in Limsa for lessons in subterfuge and close quarter's combat. In the same city he sought out the Blacksmith's guild to learn how to design and make his own weapons. He retained an earlier study of the land and how the calamity had changed it, partnering it with botanists and miners alike for access to samples and resources that he couldn't procure himself.

Through out that year Reinard worked hard and re-invented himself, all the while avoiding the bright desert jewel that brought him so much trouble. The few times his travels brought him through Ul'dah, his stay was brief. Among the few times he did, it was to take care of a patient, Risty Lowlight, whose curious case of aether poisoning dated back to the time of the calamity, a condition that had only recently become life threatening to the Highlander woman. Through threats of death from Risty and her sister and innuendos from Reinard, the Midlander, helped bring peace to someone suffering, and through this act, brought a measure of peace to himself.

Though Reinard made plenty of contacts through his dealings, none of them were considered more than acquaintances or business associates. This cold and callous stance towards others--which bordered on sociopathic--came from a need to prevent himself from being hurt. One of these acquaintances was an elezen of noble name and even nobler attitude. Though Larileina Duremert's family had long been cast out from Ishgard, the young elezen was looking to rediscover her Ishgardian roots.

Reinard himself had little knowledge of Ishgard yet he knew of people who could help her in his stead, and as a means if bringing Larileina to those, he invited the elezen woman to a Bonding Ceremony as his date. Though already bonded herself, the elezen woman played along with Reinard's 'bold plan', only to discover Reinard's more callous nature during a ride back home following the ceremony. Out of concern she quickly advised him against it, prophesying he would find himself alone if he didn't change his ways. As a means of 'helping him', she proposed to be his 'first new friend', wishing he would find others in his journeys.

Reinard never revealed it to Larileina or anybody else, but her kindness and concern served as a reminder that allowing oneself to feel and grow close to others did indeed have its benefits, just as it had its risks. He remained cautious when meeting others, using emotional masks along with pleasant and charming mannerisms when encountering strangers, often making himself appear unassuming as to not draw attention--He'd learned that such tactics had its advantages--But he no longer considered meaningful connections as impossible.

Of all the many things Reinard experienced during his wanderer period, 'Freedom' was the most valuable experience of all. Freedom to choose his way, to express himself, to act as he willed it and to explore the full extent of his abilities and where they could take him. Having already had a brush with the less savory elements of society during his time in Limsa, Reinard returned for 'more', to fully explore its depths and figure out how far the 'rabbit hole' went.

These experiences would eventually give birth to the Paciscor persona--An alias Reinard would come to use when the use of his own name was ill advised--But they would first and foremost land him in the one place every criminal comes to at least once in their life: Jail.

In his first score, Reinard discovered a Lominsan pirate captain in possession of a rather valuable collection of relics from past civilizations, including Allag, Nym and Belah'dia. The scholar in him did not accept that such relics were kept away at a man's private collection, hidden from those that would put it to better use. His plan, flawlessly executed, saw the liberation of several items from the Captain's collection. Yet before he could make his escape the young thief was discovered and detained aboard. Reinard had already done away with the items, stored them aboard a lifeboat that was sent away ahead of him, so the Pirate captain sought to extract its their whereabouts from the fledgeling criminal, first through interrogation and later through the threat of imprisionment. Reinard was locked away in Aleport, both under Maelstorm guard as well as hidden from it as the Captain ensured Reinard was forgotten as a prisoner and never properly processed through its justice system: After all, admitting to the theft meant admitting to a potentially illegal collection of relics.

They say prison changes a man. Reinard couldn't tell if that was true or not. His time behind bars was spent in introspection and invention, the quiet loneliness of prison providing him with ample opportunity to organize his thoughts and review the whole of his life up to that moment. For him, it was as if the whole world stopped and allowed him to catch his breath. And catch it he did, through long and serene afternoons of staring out into the Rothano Sea, or during the evenings when the stars were his sole companions.

Not that Reinard was entirely alone. Though left to rot by the Pirate Captain's design, Reinard came to share a cell with many others, some who spent a moon or two while others spent far less. Reinard understood that while they moved, he had been left to die, with compasion from the guards and a very greedy Captain's everlasting desire to regain his lost propriety being the sole reason why he had not been starved to death.

Life wasn't the only thing Reinard thought of. He also considered his failure, the reason why he had been caught how he ended up behind bars. That part was easy, for Reinard understood how lame of a fighter he was, incapable of pulling his own weight. So he directed his efforts at divising a way to blend both his arcanima and fledgeling melee combat styles. Though unable to experiment, the first drafts of what would be called 'Arcanist's Gloves' were concieved behind bars, with Reinard running the first trials on what he called 'Aetheric circutry' by carving patterns on on the coral rocks that formed his personal cell.

In time he planned to use these to channel the geometric patterns of a fire spell and blow himself out of jail, but that would prove unnecessary, for somehow Reinard's contacts in the Order of the Blood Roses discovered his situation and bribed the men holding him under guard, securing his release. Thankfully, because of his 'illegal' status as a prisoner, Reinard did not concern himself with the possibity of pursuit, but he still made a point to avoid Limsa Lominsa for a time. As payback for his rescue, Reinard briefly joined the Blood Roses, taking a position as one of the Company's doctor's, a job he hadn't performed in almost an year. Yet considering the past moons, Reinard was more than glad to pick up a potion once more.

After moons behind bars, Reinard was happy to taste of freedom. It was a different kind of freedom than that which landed him in prison in the first place--a tame and more lawful one--but freedom none the less, and Reinard made a point to enjoy it before in silent contemplation of his next move. His fate seemed to be decided for him however as it conspired to bring him and a young Miqo'te together. Named Auralia Rhotana, the pink-haired Miqo'te had an uncanny similarity to that of his beloved, yet none of her mannerisms and most importantly, her memories. He discovered that through a small ruse where in he took the identity of 'Paciscor' during a masquerade ball and regaled the young woman with the tragedy behind his chosen name as if it were a folk tale, a tale that saddened the woman yet did little to evoke any response that would have revealed her as Roswyn.

Reinard had almost been convinced her to be a freak 'twin sister' situation when it was revealed that she was indeed Roswyn, only amnesiac after an incident had landed her on the shores of La Noscea with nothing but her clothes and her personal weapon, a gunblade of unique design and signature weapon of Roswyn.

Faced with a rather unexpected and alien situation, Reinard struggled to decide over what to do about her true identity, its discovery evoking old feelings he long thought gone from his heart, with Reinard shamelessly projecting the image of his beloved upon 'husk' of a woman that Auralia then was, for she and Roswyn shared barely anything beyond a physical resemblance. As if to complicate matters, she was under attack by someone of their past whom appeared interested in drowning them in darkness and despair: Now calling himself Sathanas, Roswyn's old lover and Reinard's old friend and adopted family, made his return. More Voidsent than man, he revealed to be the culprit behind Aurelia's amnesia and his intent to torment them both by nipping at the bud the relationship that had begun to flourish between them. Suddenly, Roswyn had returned, and though Reinard had the choice to push her away and be with Auralia--for whom he was quickly falling--the greater familiarity he felt towards Roswyn had him choose her over the sweet and innocent girl he met recently. What's more, Roswyn had seeming finally accepted and returned Reinard's feelings, and for a time the Midlander thought he had won, beaten Sathanas in his own game. The only thing left, of course, was to kill him and make sure there would be no more games.

While Reinard worked on a plan to eliminate the one he considered his nemesis, he decided to leave the Order of the Blood Roses and migrate with 'Auralia' to a larger Free Company, seeking safety in numbers. To disguise his intentions and his less savory side, Reinard signed up as a doctor with Auralia as his assistant. Eddard Holt, the de facto leader of the Free Company, welcomed Reinard with open arms as they had a great need for a healer of Reinard's caliber.

Holt wasn't the only one Reinard would come to meet during his introduction to the Pathfinders, for on the very same day a pair of twin Auri sisters had also joined their ranks, and while Reinard didn't learn their name at the time he would see them often in the coming moons. Likewise he also met a Miqo'te couple, Zethie and Rhela, with the former being a wild and stubborn male whom apparently licked grind against Eddard's nerves, and appeared to prod Reinard for a similar reaction in their first encounter.

With a new place to call home and a legion of capable adventurers to defend his beloved from the man that pursued her, Reinard felt comfortable to work on his own counter attack at Sathanas. In spite his rather enthusiastic entrance introduction to the company, the following moon would be filled with solitary trips to the far corners of Eorzea where he searched for the pieces that his plan required, the weapons he would end Sathanas with.

In one such trip Reinard saw himself as part of a woman's attempt at eliminating another powerful voidsent. Melisande Hildegarde hired Reinard for his strategic prowess and analytical capabilities, neither of which were used when their target ambushed both of them along with their small group of capable fighters and mages, forcing a confrontation in the burning wall, during which Reinard jury rigged a aetheric engine and turned it into a cannon, blowing up a hole on a cliffside when he attempted to kill the voidsent. In spite the failure of the plan, Reinard still managed to get what he wanted, not to mention he learned a new trick.

His time with the Pathfinders wasn't all trips and blowing up cliff sides. As part of his cover with the Company, Reinard acted the friendly and agreeable doctor willing to lend a hand to all present in the company. His debut on that role was during the battle of Fesca's Wash, where man of Rhela's past, an Au Ra male named Masaki, threatened the entire Company in his quest to retrieve the Miqo'te woman. The Pathfinders, as a huge family, rose in her defense and met Masaki in the field of battle. Yet the man's capable physical body enhanced with magitek was quite an even match for the combined efforts of the Pathfinders, many of whom were injured and taken to Reinard for field medical treatment.

This event both served as a way to teach Reinard about the Pathfinders as well as help them trust him, for afterwards he was seen as part of their 'family', the man who stood by their side and prevented the deaths of more than one of their beloved members and allies, such as Ophelia, an Auri woman whom while not a Pathfinder member herself, was a friend to Rhela and answered the call to her defense.

More and more Reinard found himself swapping between two distinct masks: Reinard Ackerman, the good mannered doctor and member of the Pathfinders, and Paciscor, the emerging, wingless 'Sky Pirate' on a quest to do what Reinard couldn't openly do. This personal quest consumed his every waking moment, slowly distancing Reinard from Auralia in one ironic turn of events, for her safety remained his main reason behind his tireless efforts, yet the danger that loomed past the Pathfinder's office doors had Reinard confining the woman to its interior and to a role and mask that she grew increasingly frustrated with, unbeknownst to him. Reinard's cover wasn't flawless; 'Cormick' at one point discovered it as the two found themselves as partners on a weapon smuggling operation, the event introducing both men to each others darker sides and causing a certain amount of friction between both men as they learned not to trust each others public faces.

Yet the more Reinard swaped masks the more the two appeared to blend, and with Auralia partially shedding her own, Reinard found parts of 'Paciscor' blending in with that of 'Reinard Ackerman' once he revealed that the 'Good Doctor' could also handle two daggers and a strange form of magic during the Pathfinder's war against Eorzea Unexplored. It became clear that the longer he played his roles, the more they became a part of whom he was, leading to an interesting, if complicated and potentially lethal combination. It wouldn't be long before Reinard was forced to make a choice about whom he was, and where he would stand.

To avoid being discovered as Paciscor, the Sky Pirate who rose in prominence after a successful jacking and smuggling job of a high-profit product in the North Shroud woods, Reinard begun working towards separating his 'Good Doctor' persona from that of the criminal he had become. Besides setting up a number of contacts and more than one safehouse, he also went through the effort of establishing an alibi for both of his identities that would set them apart in different locations at the same time. Even as elements of both 'masks' had bled onto the other, these few similar traits hadn't been enough to link the two together, specially when very few individuals knew both Paciscor and Reinard at the same time.

As Reinard Ackerman, he built connections and even friendships, assisting the Pathfinder's tireless efforts against its rival company, performing his duties as a Doctor on a myriad of cases and attending to a few Bonding Ceremonies--Such as Zethie Aldis' and Rhela Aliapoh's. As Paciscor, he attempted to establish a street credential through rumors as well as contacts within the criminal underworld that may serve him during his Sky Pirate adventures. He also adopted a mask, its design similar to that of the Gridanian Wood Wailers. Whether the same symbolism behind it applied to Paciscor, it was anyone's guess.

The most complicated part of this facade was Reinard's relationship and ties to Auralia. Since the Keeper avoided contact with the Pathfinders and kept herself in the shadows, she hadn't the need to establish a fake persona of her own, the few 'legal' documents provided to the Pathfinders being enough as they were. On the other hand, her presence would always put pressure in the thin veil between Paciscor and Reinard, as the 'sky pirate' within the 'good doctor' threatened to come out whenever the two were together. Likewise, thanks to Reinard and Auralia's relationship remaining a 'secret', Reinard was considered something of a bachelor among his peers and often pushed towards one pairing or another--Such as Ophelia Blanche for instance. This matter would eventually be settled when both Reinard and Auralia--having already spent a lengthy period apart as the two set about following their own agendas--recognized that their relationship was one without a future, as the Keeper 'Matriarch' held her professional goals above any of Reinard's romantic plans.

While Reinard healed and brought succor, Paciscor struck. The first job of this (often masked) Sky Pirate happened in the fringe woods of the North Shroud, making frontier between Gridania and the Coerthas Highlands. Shipments of goods traveling from Ishgard to Gridania had been trained over a whole moon yet the Wailers had been unable to mount a response. Reinard and E'ratika Sjah, a Miqo'te that joined him in this hunt had managed to find that the Garuda bound Ixali had stolen the shipments in search of Wind Crystals, and while working for an anonymous party, endeavored to steal the goods back. Because the Ixali were never officially discovered as the culprit party, many rumors surfaced when Paciscor smuggled the goods into Ul'dah, the original shipment's final destination. Without any proof of his involvement, Reinard wasn't worried about repercussions, and the rumors only served to feed Paciscor's fame, which was of his immediate interest.

Different from the first, Paciscor's next major score would require a bit more of planning: Following a request for magitek parts, Castrum Centri became Paciscor's target, his plan of attack involving perhaps the grossest distraction in Eorzean history and a quick Airship with an equally agile crew to enter the Castrum and steal the needed goods. The plan was solid, and thanks to a snarky but very talented Conjurer by the name of Khoba Lhyr, Paciscor and three others were successful in stealing from Garlemald, escaping without much incident.

By comparison, Reinard's life had taken a turn to a slow paced routine. Between the many contacts he'd made, Reinard found himself with a couple of new friendships and an old one renewed, and between his official separation from Auralia and their next encounter--one done under strictly for professional purposes--Reinard's 'love problems' seemed to settle at last. It did not make his disguise as a bachelor any easier, but at least meant that it was no longer a disguise: Reinard felt truly without romantic commitments, and for the time being he preferred things to stay that way.

Though Paciscor exists for a while already, I decided to delay this first entry to this date. Call it a sense of romanticism; Reinar Paciscor was born in this day 27 cycles ago, why not have Paciscor, the Sky Pirate, be official born in it as well?

I say that but right now nobody knows who he--Who I am. Still working on that but the way I see it I'll need to do quite a bit before people start noticing. For starters I will have to get the right people to open their eyes and look the right way so they do notice it, but only that which I want noticed. Won't do any good if all that is seen is me scrapping my knees during a bad fall like a child.

Thought of signing up with the larger crews--To avoid the whole 'New independent guy in the block' stigma--but I'm really tired of getting ordered around. Bad enough that I signed up with another Free Company, another group looking to do justice to the common man and graciously accept their money in return, as if they weren't after that in the first place. Khairi's words ring in my mind, there's a lot of self-righteous mercenaries out there, trying to act like they're doing Hydaelyn a favor. I got no illusions like that. I know what I want and I'm willing to go get it.

... And right now I want a kiss from Aura, so lets end first entry this on that lovely note.

Funny how this one worked. I guess the old saying rings true, "Where there is a will, there is a way." This time the will was Risty's, a powerful will to fix her condition. I don't blame her, or the chance of having any semblance of one, depends heavily on the treatment I prescribed to her around half a cycle ago. There's only one problem: The crystals her treatment relies on--the clear Unaspected ones--were stolen. Not from her person, but on the way to her via Caravan as it crossed the Black Shroud. She tells me that wasn't the only things that were stolen, but the Wailers don't have the numbers to respond to this. Enter Paciscor!

I enlisted the aid of a Miqo'te, E'ratika Sjah. Clever little girl that worked with the Rogues in Limsa Lominsa. Came very recommended. I also had a friend borrow me his Airship and pilot as I figure I can't just drive a chocobo-carvan into the middle of the enemy's fort and take the stuff back. Well not that there is a fort to begin with, but the enemy we're facing is quite ferocious and great in number. I'm talking of the Ixal, whom I imagine were after wind crystals for another Garuda summoning. Nothing new, but this time they took the wrong caravan. Too bad for them. If this plays out right, I might be able to get some reward from the Wailers or the Twin Adders.

Fingers crossed.

So aside from the half-a-dozen spears stuck in our airship's hull, I'd say the mission was a success. If this were a Garlean airship, those spears wouldn't have done a single dent to the frame. But what can you do? I believe Vanir would sooner call these of 'Hot-air baloons' than actual airships.

E'ratika's performance was most impressive. I knew from my contacts that she knew how to use daggers but I didn't expect her level of skill. Quick and nimble and quite flexible, she doesn't just look good, she makes the whole style look good. At the same time she's a bit of a wild card. When it came to depart the scene, I sent the airship a separate way with the loot and she went her own without a single order. I can appreciate a survival instinct and her going off like that did draw some of the Ixali that were attacking us, but I rather she did it on my command. I'll have to keep an eye on her for that.

The biggest surprise however came after the mission. She asked me to meet her in La Noscea, at a small cabin deep inland close to Mt. O'Ghomoro. Just off a cliff, resting against a number of trees and concealed by a misty veil, was an airship. We used my friend's in this particular venture, but she came to me and offered that vessel in our future scores. It apparently had belonged to her mate and the man went missing. She hadn't a use for it since and kept it out in La Noscea, but would much rather someone made good use of it. It's a little beaten, the humidity of the place having chewed on the wood and made it rot here and there, but it can be fixed. I'm looking forward to try and convince her to give it to me for good.

Risty, of course, was very surprised as well. Not with the airship, but with me dragging in one of the crystal crates. The other one I kept for myself. I'll have need of them for my plan to kill Sathanas.

"Call me if you need any help" She said. Yeah right...

She still hasn't caught on, or maybe she did and is trying to avoid it, make up for it. Keep me around in that leash that she imagines she has around my neck. I have no problem with working together but I'm not looking to pretend like everything is alright between us.

The sole reason I'm still around and watching those two is because of her plan to mount an attack on Krystfarr. Once that is done, I am done. Sathanas hasn't shown up in months--probably because his actual plan succeeded--The company continues to go nowhere with that Eorzea Unexplored matter: I hear its because Eddard has been very busy with other affairs since Ashen passed down the leadership onto him. But more importantly I have to turn my focus towards other things and other people.

The Castrum Centri score proved that I can do this--That WE can do this. With the right planning, the right crew and the right tools we managed to outsmart and out maneuver a whole Castrum, and while E'ratika was upset that Vanir stopped them from killing anybody, I find it that to be a welcome bonus, because if we can do that much while holding back, imagine what we can pull off when we don't.

That sole job is practically getting me an Airship of my own, giving Rainusi her combat dummy, Masaki his armor and I still get enough spare to sell and get everyone paid. I can't stress how proud I am of how well executed that was.

REALLY love it when a plan comes together.

As for Roswyn--We may work together in the future, or we may not. It's going to depend on her offer and what she has planned. If she really thinks I'm part of her little "Matriarchy", she is more gullible than I thought. Why, I would think that all the signs would have made it obvious but maybe I just became too good at being discreet and wearing my masks.

♦ Appearance

Reinard is a tall man, with fair skin and complexion with fading brown hair, usually kept in a disheveled state, lightly arranged by hand so it will not lay before his eyes. He's often sporting a subtle yet cheeky smile as if content with his lot in life, or at the very least satisfied with something, while his eyes, vibrant and blue with a glow that betrays a touch of wonder for what is and what could be, are often gazing attentively at his surroundings. He tends to favor bright colored clothes in that do not impair his movements, fitting for the warm climates of Thanalan and La Noscea. Alternatively he makes use of lightly armored equipment or armor pads beneath or over his usual clothes. In social events he has a preference towards elegant designs in darker tones.

♦ Personality, Traits & Quirks

In public, Reinard behaves in a calm and composed manner, almost easy going at times. It does not however crosses into the realm of laid back, for as carefree as he may appear, Reinard maintains a modicum of good posture and manners save for an occasional witty remark or joke. He weaves from polite company to charming rogue depending on the situation and the company he holds, and although he doesn't shy away from flirting or spying on women he finds attractive, Reinard seldom takes it beyond that point. Beneath that 'mask' Reinard is a reserved person to whom logic and reasonable thinking comes before emotion, able and willing to put aside all pleasantries to focus on the cold and heartless truth of the moment, such a distinctly different behavior that is almost as if controlled by a switch. As a doctore Reinard has shown a more emphatic and caring demeanor, although given his personality it is difficult to say if there is any meaning to it or if it is just bedside manner. Few people are close enough to Reinard to see him in private and know anything about his mannerisms.

Its clear to anybody that spends enough time around Reinard that he is very perceptive, with an active and focused mind, although this most often comes to light during more intellectual moments whether it is discussing a subject of interest, conducting research or study of some form, or even just reading a book. He will actively debate a topic of interest with anybody that seems interested in it and can sometimes display traits of his more private self through his care for knowledge and information. His interest in aether--which served as a springboard to other things--was first born of an above-average sensitivity to aether which allowed him to feel its currents more vividly as a palpable thing, sometimes even seeing it as an 'aura' if its natural flow is disturbed. As he's keenly aware that few people share this affinity (Exception being the Padjal, whose senses far surpass his own), it is something that he considers very personal and almost never speaks of.

When wearing glasses and spectacles of any form, Reinard has a particular quirk involving adjusting his glasses along his nose-bridge which can be triggered by a number of factors. Because his need for spectacles is limited and because he recently found them to be inconvenient outside of when actively reading, Reinard chose to put them aside, which may lead to small and odd blunders when this quirk is triggered.

Romantic Relationship - Sexual Desire - Romantic Interest - Platonic Love
Good Standing - Neutral Standing - Poor Standing

Auralia Rhotana/Roswyn Valhuri – A sharp minded Miqo'te. Being one of Reinard's first friends in Ul'dah, Reinard quickly took a liking to her and after many trials and tribulations (and two broken hearts), the two finally managed to be together. Their relationship is far from common place and least of all boring, with the pair stuck on the razor edge boundary between a physical and romantic relationship.
Aysa Farland – The Highlander Pugilist first came to Reinard as many others of the Pathfinder's Free Company; Though need of medical assistance. It wasn't until after this initial exchange that Reinard came to know more about her and what makes her tick, which involved a rather intense 'sparring' session at one point.
Corbi Slater – Reinard's boss during his time with the Eorzea Unearthed group. The two had very little interaction with one another, always maintaining a status quo of respect and good manners in their few interactions.
Eratika Bajhiri – Reinard and E'ratika Sjah begun their relationship strictly as business partners, trusting one another as such and pulling through more than one risky job. Following a successful raid in an Imperial Castrum and a botched investigation into a serial killer, the professional veil hanging between them fell apart and the two grew fast friends and even confidants to a point, with mutual attraction not far behind. A most recent development saw the Miqo'te experience literal life-changing event inadvertently that summoned the ghosts of Reinard's past failures. Yet through her persistence and affection, Eratika she was not another "Pink-haired Miqo'te" thrown in Reinard's path. His feelings for her flourished into a love that he can not help but to act upon.
Eddard Holt - One of Reinard's colleagues in the Pathfinders and in a sense his superior. Neither man knows much about the other personally and their careers seem to put them at odds. Yet at the same time neither have the reason or desire to stand against each other, keeping the pair in tenuous balance between friend and foe. Recent events saw Eddard and Reinard working together against a common foe that threatened not only them but all of the Pathfinders, with Reinard actively supporting Eddard through advice as well as coming to his rescue. After all, what good are the Pathfinders without their leader?
I'yato Khai – An energetic Miqo'te whom Reinard met during his first visit to Gridania. Her good nature and contagious enthusiasm sometimes sparks similar feelings inside the usually quiet Reinard.
Iasmin Rey – A Raen Au Ra that Reinard often met and spoke to in the Quicksand. What begun with Iasmin saving Reinard's shoes from getting puked on has developed into a strong bond. Unlike most, Reinard quite enjoys Iasmin's company, with the Auri woman sharing of the same feeling. The two have expressed and acted in support of one another many times, sometimes acting as the siblings neither ever had.
Khairi Relanah – A member of the Order of the Blood Rose, though Reinard didn't really interact with her until after leaving the company. Wealthy, sophisticated and somewhat promiscuous, Khairi would make for a fine mark for the rogue in Reinard, if not for her kindness, witty remarks and willing support of his activities.
Khoba Lhyr – The amusingly honest and self-proclaimed simple-minded Miqo'te was a breath of fresh air to someone like Reinard. Though they met a few times before being properly introduced--and though his first impression of the Miqo'te was less than stellar--Their interactions left Reinard seeing her in a positive note. Behaving drastically different from anyone else Reinard is familiar with, any encounter usually leaves him wanting to spend more time talking to the Keeper. Their most recent encounter however didn't involve a lot of talking. Even then Khoba proves her loyalty and discretion--managing to impress and appease Reinard--as the two literally got away with murder of someone that threatened Reinard's life.
Melfice Vainchelon - A mysterious figure whom Reinard only knows by his first name. Though Reinard recognizes and respects the man's vast knowledge and experience in matters concerning the Void, the little contact the two have shared did little to build any form of trust in between them.
Ophelia Blanche – A white scaled Au Ra with the most colorful of 'families' that Reinard has ever encountered. Their first meeting was on an operating table, with Reinard's hands buried in the girl's guts as he struggled to save her from what would have been a lethal wound otherwise. As her doctor, Reinard kept a close eye while she recovered, sternly advising caution while playing the role of a friendly companion to help her healing process. Perhaps unsurprisingly this has led to Ophelia developing genuine feelings for Reinard, leading to a platonic relationship between the two of them as Reinard found himself as another 'member' of her ever growing foster family.
Risty Lowlight – A member of the Order of the Blood Rose as well as Reinard's patient. Risty's curious condition provoked Reinard's curiosity and through it he discovered an honest soul with a knack for sassy banter. Though it is sometimes difficult to notice, Reinard and Risty get along quite well, as two age old buddies whom enjoy sharing a bear and talking about women, a subject Risty is most fond of.
"Sathanas" – Rival. A man whom Reinard once held in high regard, yet whose ambition and thirst for power strained and eventually destroyed any relationship the two had. Add insult to injury the man once held the affections of the woman Reinard loved, disappearing with her in tow. Time brewed his distaste for the man into an acute mix of hatred for his actions and disgust for what he became, though a side of him still respects Lucan for the danger he represents.
Tera Stone – A member of Eorzea Unearthed whose unusual connection to an ancient artifact quickly drew Reinard's attention. Though they briefly worked together as researchers in a quest to uncover the origins of said artifact, Tera has, ever since, disappeared, leaving Reinard with nothing but unanswered questions.
Vanir Callad – A hulking suit of armor... At least as far most people know. The towering figure and Reinard go way back, quite evidently from a time before Reinard was even in Eorzea. The details of those days are something the two guard closely together and a frequent subject when they are left alone. To this day, Reinard remains the one person in Eorzea that knows what Vanir looks like under the helmet while Vanir remains the one person in Eorzea that knows what Reinard looks like under his 'helmet'.
Zethie Aldis – In their first meeting, Reinard took the male Miqo'te's banter and apparent confrontational behavior as signs that he might become a sort of 'rival' within the Pathfinder's organization. Whatever the truth behind that initial clash the relations between the two came to improve drastically in the following month, to the point that the Miqo'te personally invited Reinard to his bonding ceremony.

Rumors

"Reinard Ackerman? The doctor? Yeah I know of him. Had a Free-clinic here in Ul'dah about an year back. I hear he's working with some Free Company now, Pathfinders or something. Hah, Free-clinic to Free Company, doubt his services are actually free, though!"Ul'dahnian citizen (Common rumor)
"Every time I see that man he's wandering around the city in the company of some pretty broad. I guess women dig doctors. Specially ones with pretty faces..."Ul'dahnian citizen (Common rumor)
"A few moons past we had a problem with a large, vicious Coeurl. He shows up with two women and the three take it out. I thought he was a hunter at first. It was only after I dropped his name in a visit to Ul'dah that I hear he's supposed to be a doctor. What kind of doctor goes around hunting dangerous animals!?"Gridanian Wood Wailer (Quarrymill rumor)
"He's not just a doctor, he's got connections--powerful people watching over his shoulder. Long ago we suspected he was covering for a thief in his so called 'Free-clinic'. One moment he was in our sights, the next we're told to back off."Ul'dahnian Brass Blade (Rare rumor)

(Paciscor specific rumors from this point onwards)

"Don't know who this Paciscor arsehole is but he showed up here one time with a bunch of merchandise one day and sold it at a low price. Now get this; A lot of the stuff he sold just happened to be same stuff that was reported stolen when a caravan got raided up there in the northern woods."Ul'dahnian smuggler (Ul'dah Underworld rumor)
"He's a scumbag is what he is! On Starlight he courted an innocent girl in the middle of a ball. Took her away for a 'romantic walk under the moonlight' and you know what else comes after that! Later I hear she woke up and found she got robbed of her precious jewelry! Kid was devastated."Ul'dahnian citizen (Rare Ul'dah rumor)
"Where does he hang out? No idea myself! He takes off to a different direction each time, must have safe houses all over the place. Plus he's usually got that mask or goggles on, hard to recognize a man behind that."Ul'dahnian criminal (Ul'dah Underworld rumor)
"All I know is he shows up aboard an airship, four others aboard. They unload a bunch of boxes with the help of a few folks and then scamper faster than you can say 'Smugglers'. Don't know exactly what it was that was in them boxes, but I think I saw me some Garlean symbols on one of them!"Lominsan shipwright (Moraby Drydocks rumor)

The way he pushes his glasses up his nose is just....absolutely endearing. It makes me hesitant to wonder how dark he might actually be inside..."Roswyn Valhuri
The doctor? He has a knack for irritating me, but I find his logical truth to be refreshing in this world of lies and deceit. I wouldn't trade the friendship with him for anything... Of course he won't know that.."Risty Lowlight
