Roswyn Valhuri
Roswyn is an orphan, born in the Black Shroud to her mother that died not long after her birth. Her father is a mystery figure and her beginnings were spent fighting, clawing and stealing for survival before a tragic, yet arguably fortunate, twist of fate led her to becoming a more well-to-do daughter of Ul'dah.
Roswyn's current and true occupations are slowly becoming more obvious as her business contacts and notoriety grows. She, however, does her best to shy away from the focus of investigations and from being the topic of conversation, preferring to operate behind the scenes and only making abrupt movements when she absolutely has to.

Appearance
Roswyn is a light pink colored Miqo'te female with her hair ending in silver streaks and sliver streaks running through her tail. She stands at minimum height for a Miqo'te female. She is extremely small in stature but her body is lithe and dense, hiding an unseen prowess for combat. Her body is rather curvy where it counts and she has been known to use this as a manipulation tactic. When in the presence of company she is comfortable with, her ears and eyes become rather expressive. Her tail is downy and fluffy, a trait of Keepers.
Roswyn has a knack for immediately coming across as non-threatening and while this used to annoy her, she has long since gotten used to it. Her fragile appearance and demure coloration often give people approaching her a inaccurate portrait of her mind and physical capabilities. Roswyn will often let people carry on with this first impression, preferring to surprise them later if the situation should ever call for it.

Hair | Skin | Body Type | Voice | Clothing | Notable Features |
Sea Green | Light pink with silver streaks | Pale | Lithe and seemingly delicate – hiding a surprising aptitude for physical combat. | Expressive with a surprising range | Usually whatever is appropriate for the time and occasion. She has been known to enjoy fashion and her frequent style changes reflect this. | The physical feature Roswyn most often gets comments on is her eyes. She appears to have no strange markings or tattoos but she's taken to wearing a rather odd and noticeable necklace. |
Behavior and Personality
Roswyn has been told that she comes across as a well spoken, if not sarcastic, exquisite example of a young woman. However she does have a tendency to spoil this with her blunt manner of speaking. She will speak her mind and while she will do so eloquently she will not withhold her opinion either. She will often word criticism in such a way where one has to think about it first before replying as they may be unsure if she just insulted them to their face. This is a facet of her personality that has grown over the past few months and something she has no plans on curving.
She can often come across as distant and almost calculating if one is paying attention. She will rarely initiate conversation with a stranger, unless they specifically interest her in some way. However, in the presence of friendly company she tends to open up, telling jokes and poking fun. She is not above taking a verbal jab or two as long as it is genuinely funny and improves the conversation.
Roswyn used to be much more of a flirt than she is these days. She used to love nothing more than finding an attractive, well spoken gentleman and conversing the night away, seeing who could get the upper hand before the wine or ale took hold. However, this practice now seems to bore her. She is seen much less frequently in the Quicksand and Drowning Wench now, though has become a regular at The Laughing Lady.
She is a Keeper of the Moon and while she knows little of her specific bloodline, she has recently made efforts to delve into her past. This research was mostly prompted by her rare and occasional tendency to fall into a more feral state. Only a few have encountered this version of herself and she intends to keep it that way. Though she wonders what lies in her blood that can cause her to have such animalistic tendencies despite her upbringing.
It's apparent that is well educated, bearing an analytical mind, though she can come off surprisingly naive in other arenas. In matters of the heart, Roswyn lacks much needed insight. She makes every attempt she can to downplay this fact about herself, using biting sarcasm and disinterest to deflect interest shown in her. The cause for her seemingly random lack of knowledge in this area is unknown except to a scarce few.
Above all, Roswyn is governed by her own unique sense of justice.
Combat
Roswyn still retains her hair-trigger temper but she's better at controlling it these days. She's learned that some situations needen't always resort to violence, despite how much the person deserves it. She retains her physical combat prowess from her days as a bandit and thief, being extremely proficient with the daggers and bow. She has a sudden, growing desire to improve her swordsmanship for reasons she won't quite explain as well as shoring up her marksmanship. She has an aptitude for stealthiness, bearing the capability to remain still and hidden for almost hours at a time. This skill went largely unused for years though she has been practicing it's use once again for unknown reasons.
Her intensive training as an Arcanist after her adoption has served to ingrain in her a decent amount of knowledge regarding aetherical skills and in conversation she appears above average in discussion of the subject. Her own personal research into the Void and Voidsent as well as her own first person experiences make her an interesting individual to broach the subject with. Her training in Arcanima left her with an anaylatical mind and a logical view of the world, despite the fact that she could never develop a taste for the art.
Conjury ended up being much more her forte and she took to the art with vigor after watching several people she knew suffer permanent injuries and almost perish for lack of immediate attention. However, while her interest in conjury does appear to be solely for the benefit of others, she appears to get going down a darker route. A slow perversion of the art that is scantly known and seldom written about in books. Her true motivations for this remain unknown.
Her greatest combat strength, however, lies in numbers. In recent months, and especially after her kidnapping incident, Roswyn has taken great care to surround herself with people she trusts. She may appear alone but it should be understood that she is never truly alone. She does not often make the decision to engage in combat but when she does then all manner of tools at her disposal will be on the table. She will do what it takes to win, even if it means using manipulation, more deceitful tactics or switching and combining her fighting styles.
Roswyn will very very rarely make the decision to make an aggressive, violent move against another but when it does happen she prefers to operate meticulously, leaving no loopholes for error or failure. Once that point has been reached, she will aim to kill. No questions asked.
Occupation, Skills, and Pastimes
Roswyn, at face value, is one of the administrative leads of a free company called Eclipsis. However, her position within the company affords her certain abilities. In specific circles, she's known to be able to smuggle goods into Ul'dah, fence and sell the items utilizing merchants and stalls set up throughout the city and at the Golden Bazaar. Provided it isn't blatent contraband, which requires more finesse and effort, Roswyn can get items in the city and subsequentially get rid of them in exchange for coin.
As far as pastimes, she seems to be a rather solitary creature, preferring the company of only a few people she seems to trust. Big parties and get-togethers are not her style. If viewed in her room she's often reading about conjural theory these days, making an effort to develop the art in herself.

Relationships
Family
Roswyn was born in the Black Shroud, right on the forest floor. Her mother died shortly after her birth and her birth father is unknown. She does however, currently have a man she refers to as her father though if asked about him she will evade the topic unless the person asking has attained a certain level of her trust through one means or another.
Father: Vernon Valhuri – This man's name is spoken rarely and only to those in a very specific circle. He is a vastly secretive man, his occupation, face, and even race is a question mark for most people and the one things he is known for is his operations in the Ul'dan underground. If you know his name then you may know a thing or two about Roswyn as well.
((OOC Note: I am very open to some RP concerning Roswyn's family ties. Contact me OOCly in game if you feel this could be a tie in for your character :D))
Player Character Relationships
●Orpheus Arkouda: Orpheus, a tall and well-built mercenary, was often seen alongside Roswyn and especially after her kidnapping incident. She had met him before then, but she had rebuked his aggressive attempts at getting to know her better, viewing him as just another Seeker male. Business partner, bodyguard, or perhaps a mix of the two. His real relation to her is unknown and he's not seen around her as much as he used to be. For her part, Roswyn says nothing about what's happened between them but if the two are ever seen together it appears that not much has changed and the relationship is amiable. | ●C'kayah Tia : She had not reached out to him at all and then a letter appeared followed by a chance rendezvous. He was worried about her. He'd heard about her new partner but he refused to listen to anything she had to say on the matter and insisted she abandon her business deals and let him abscond with her. She'd declined, refusing to run away from the situation. Her inability to forfit and her trust in Lucaniel keep her in her position yet her stubborn nature refuses to let what she feels for Kayah slip away either. What -exactly- it is she feels though is a daunting question. One that will take time to figure out and one that Kayah seems fine with letting her explore for the moment. |
●Lucaniel Clarke : - A man that Roswyn has found herself spending quite a bit of time with. To the average person he's a merchant. To those in other circles, the rumours surrounding him warm them to stay away. He approached her one night in Ul'dah, using her last name rather flippantly to get her attention. Several weeks passing and brokering many business deals together have brought the two very close and Roswyn, in her typical fashion, appears to be ignoring all warnings that she should keep her distance despite what she knows about him. Those that would see them in public would note a level of affection between them and the terms of endearment that are used. | ●Reinard Ackerman : - A scholary type that Roswyn met through Lucaniel. Possibly unbeknownst to him, he was accidentally privvy to one of her bigger secrets. She carried on however, not attracting attention to the subject. In general, Roswyn likes him though she wonders how the hell he's gotten wrapped up with his current company. She worries for him a bit even though such worry is likely better reserved for herself. |
●Skratti Bowens : - A tip from Orpheus led Roswyn to Skratti and she was surprised to find the girl sleeping under her company's roof. No sooner did Roswyn extend the girl an opportunity did she begin to deliver. Skratti hides a few secrets and Roswyn intends to help the girl develop her already innate talents. She finds herself immensely impressed with Skratti's quick wit and judgement calls despite her age. | ●Argust Clow : - A capable Thaumaturge that Roswyn has come to know. She wasn't sure if she could take him or his abilities seriously until she actually saw him work. They'd already spoken about possible business deals between the two of them and after he'd impressed her she was sure to act on this. The man is a bit of an enigma, shying away from most people and crowds, yet he tends to seek her out. She isn't exactly sure what to make of this and she does her best to ignore her own desire to seek him out as well. |
●Lyuri Felnica : - Leader of the Free Company Eclipsis and close acquaintance, Roswyn was wondering how long she could go continuing on with her operations at the Golden Bazaar before finally attracting her attention. The day finally came and Roswyn was pleased to discover that there was more to Lyuri, and a few others, than meets the eye. As events have passed, Lyuri and Roswyn have grown closer and Roswyn feels more comfortable being herself around her. That is, letting Lyuri know exactly how rigid Roswyn's sense of justice can be. | ●Loronus Deatro : - Roswyn sometimes thinks she would go insane without Loronus. The propriator of their bar on the bottom floor and leader of one of the divisions of Eclipsis, Loronus has taken the iniative and taken quite a bit off her mind. She's grateful and does what she can to make sure he feels comfortable while still maintaining her position of authority. |
●Siha Xinkei : - Roswyn genuinely enjoys talking to Siha. Siha once told Roswyn that she had a gift for getting people to talk and while she didn't admit it at the time she feels Siha has the same ability. Everytime she manages to run into the girl, however, she always seems to be in some sort of odd predicamant. Roswyn is always quick to lend a hand, having taken a liking to the girl, but Siha's hesitance to speak resulted in some recent misunderstandings. | ●Aldyet Lannis : - This woman recently joined Roswyn's company and she immedinately noticed her quiet nature. She then noticed she'd mysteriously turned into a Miqo. Roswyn had a very long discussion with her about the circumstances that led to her change and the two found out they had a lot more in common than they initially realized. Roswyn then extended her a hand in friendship. To quote what she said to her: "I'm tired of having enemies." to which Aldyet agreed. Roswyn is hoping Aldyet is trustworthy and she's watching her closely. |
●Kenthy Pennyfeather : - Kayah's business partner and, apparently, one of his lover(s). Roswyn genuinely likes Kenthy. As she said to Kayah, "I'm glad you finally found someone who won't wear you around their finger like a fashion accessory." She relates to her offstandish personality and acidic nature, seeing the qualities in herself as well. She doesn't desire to have any ill-will towards the woman but Roswyn can't fight off the suspicision that Kenthy already hates her. | ●Erik Mynhier : - Roswyn approached this gentleman because of his unique looks and very tall stature. She'd not met or seen him before and his rather long title and list of occupations caught her rather off guard. She'd found that he'd been on a mission and recently returned to Ul'dah. He is a little stoic for her tastes, however. Almost oddly robotic in his sense of duty. Admirable, but boring. |
●Ignasse Arbeau : Ignasse could both be called a friend and an enemy in many regards. The two share a strange, antagonistic yet affectionate friendship, both loving to tease and give the other hell on occasion. Ignasse is one of the men that carries a scar on his face from Ros's temper. In retrospect, she has no idea why he chooses to remain on "good" terms with her but she is glad he does. The two have become closer as of late, with Roswyn finally admitting how much she enjoys his company. The feeling was surprisingly reciprocated and now the two stand at an odd impasse. A unique mess of pranking each other while giving sly winks and smiles. | ●Darturu Torlan : The more they speak the more drawn to him Roswyn finds herself. The two have discussed many subjects, not the least of which seems to be the odd, yet very distinct urge they both have to trust each other. They have many similarities and responsibilities, including the management of both their free companies and they're naturally able to retreat from this when they speak. While some of his behaviors should be putting her on guard, especially his habit of appearing in her room unannounced, she finding herself relaxed and amused instead. An unexpected, yet very welcome addition into her life. |
●Surilian Blu : - Roswyn only met her the one time, escorting her when she felt she could be in danger. But from what she has been told and what she has witnessed, she firmly believes they have much in common. However, because she understands this, she also understands how risky it could be to bring Suri close as a friend. | ●Kage Kiryuu : - He's cuter with a tail in her mind. Despite his obvious, radical changes, Roswyn still likes the little guy. It's likely foolish for her to, considering the sides of certain issues, but he's practically impossible to hate. Additionally, she's finding herself thinking he's in trouble but the situation is so complicated she's unsure how to proceed. |
●Benedict Walker: Leader of a Mercenary group, Roswyn met Ben during a rather large party hosted by another free company. At first, she wasn't impressed by the Hyur but as the night wore on she found herself increasingly pleased by his gentlemanly demeanor and his almost poetic words. It seems a strange dichotomy for a battle-worn man such as him but it's a contrast she enjoys. She would very much like to do business with him...or perhaps just see him again. | ●Zaiaku Kurai : She originally tried to look past his rather lecherous nature but he's done nothing but confirm her suspicious. She teasingly calls him "Lady Watcher" anytime she sees him lingering in the Quicksand. She's half a mind to speak to poor Aya about him. He sure stares at her enough... |
●Natalie Mcbeef : Time is beginning to whittle away at the dislike she had for this woman. She can't deny the things she's knows she's done and Roswyn will always be wary because of it, but the open hostility she once displayed at her mention is now more of a frown and an exasperated sigh. | ●Kiht Jakkya : Roswyn watched as this woman helped save Kayah's life but....something just seems off. She can't put her finger on it. Perhaps she's wrong. Time will tell. |
Rumors
Common Rumors
- She used to frequent the Quicksand quite often. We don't see her much anymore.
- She still does seem to enjoy fashion, doesn't she?
- I overheard her yelling and growling at some poor Merchant. Sounds like she has a temper.
Moderate Rumors
- That girl occasionally wears weapons. I think she knows how to use them too.
- You know, come to think of it, I have no idea what she actually does for a living...
- She tends to stick to Miqo'te. Hyur's maybe. Elezen? Forget it.
- In all the times I've seen her introduce herself she has "never" used a last name. And I mean Never.
Rare Rumors
- We see her duck in and out of houses here in Drybone before she heads North somewhere. Ain't much had the nerve to try followin her.
- Aye, she passes through South Shroud. She manages to wander into bandit camps and come out unscathed. It's enough to make a person wonder about her affiliations...
- Her? No. Stay away. You'll get your face carved up or go missing. That one snaps.
- I once heard a man joke about her summoning demons of some kind to protect her. Maybe it was in jest but his face was straight the whole time...
Player Character Rumors
- "She combines farsighted vision with selective blindness, and a crystal certainty that she is always right. She is ambitious, and ruthless in her pursuit of her ambition. Yet beneath it all she is still vulnerable, and that makes her eminently appealing. I've watched her grow from a young girl to a capable young woman, watched her build something she's always wanted. We may not see one another, nor even speak anymore, but I've never been more proud of her." - C'kayah Tia
- "Stubborn as a brick in the wind." - Keroa Mosuke
- "I've only just met her recently. I saw her once before when I first came to Ul'dah, and the first impression was rather poor. I've heard more negatives then positives about her, but you know how people like to talk. So far she seems friendly enough." - Lilithium Altair
- Feel free to add if you know of her!
History
Childhood
Roswyn's childhood was defined by many factors she'd prefer to never experience again. It's rare she's heard discussing it and even rarer for her to disclose details. A member of a rather unremarkable group of bandits in the Black Shroud, Roswyn was adopted into this lifestyle when her mother was killed by the same group that adopted her. Her mother's death was an unfortunate accident, a stray arrow catching her during a robbing of the caravan she happened to be traveling in. Roswyn was born mere moments before her death and all she knows of her mother was told her her by the members of her gurilla group who happened to be present that day.
Roswyn grew up embedded in this lifestyle defined by a hatred of Wildwoods, a distaste for the Adder, and a drive to survive. Being cold, persecuted, and hungry were staples of her younger years and it wouldn't have been beyond her to put an arrow in the throat of a Gridanian guard who happened to wander too far from the trail leading to his city if she thought he had food or provisions she could procure.
It was the Calamity that ended this lifestyle for her, resulting in her adoption. She watched the majority of her adoptive family perish before her eyes that day and she herself merely laid on the ground, waiting to accept death at the hands of fate, until she found herself scooped up and taken elsewhere.
Adolescence
At the age of 14, Roswyn found herself adopted and brought to Ul'dah, a city like she never could have imagined from her humble scope of the world. It took several years of education and training for her to overcome her humble upbringing, her patterns of speech and dialect changing to reflect this. Despite her origins, Roswyn possessed a keen mind and this was swiftly recognized by her adoptive father. In addition to her training as an Archanist, she was taught many other skills that are evident today with her current line of work. Through her years of study, her instructors recognized that she had an amazing, yet untapped aptitude for magic that she had never focused on. It was also discovered that she had a very specific mental and personality disorder, likely developed after the Calamity, and it's something that affects her to this day.
At was at this time of about 15 years of age that Roswyn met C'kayah Tia, a smuggler who had been doing business with her father. Roswyn grew rather fond of the man. He was always kind to her and armed with a gift or a story to tell. She never could have known than that it would be this relationship that would explode into an array of complications once she reached adulthood.
Present
Roswyn is fairly new on the scene in Ul'dah, leading many to wonder where the hell she came from. She posses a strange amount of knowledge of the underworld for a young woman and can come across as oddly threatening and calculating, while at the same time leaving people with the impression that she is harmless. Who knows where this chosen path will lead her?

Roswyn will likely change a bit with the release of rogue/ninja as this was how the character was originally envisioned.
