Appearance

Body type: Slender, curvy, and slightly taller than average

Hair: Silky hair in a vivid shade of emerald green hangs down slightly past her shoulder blades. She has recently taken to wearing it in a popular eastern style with a portion pulled up into two "odango" buns. Normally, however, she wears it down with long-layered bangs that are swept away from her face and the front sections pulled back into a loose braid.

Clothing: She dresses mainly for function, but with a feminine flair so that she can feel attractive. Her wardrobe is filled with dresses and skirts for casual wear, a variety of robes for work and adventuring, and an Ishgardian-style royal blue tunic with chainmail and white accents that bears the Knights of the Sky emblem (which she typically pairs with black shorts and boots) for official company business and missions. She will often leave her legs exposed for ease of movement, and she refuses to wear gloves, believing that they interfere with her healing abilities and tactile senses. Most of her accessories vary by outfit, with the exception of pair of rose-gold ear cuffs that she always wears. Recently, she has taken to wearing a green stone pendant in an intricate silver setting on a long chain around her neck, which was given to her after her mother passed. Her hope is that it will bring her courage in the battles ahead.

She takes great pride in her appearance and strives to be as clean and well kept as possible — plus, in her eyes, being clean also ensures less chance of infection when caring for the injured.

Personality

Velancia has a very warm and approachable air about her, almost motherly in a way. She tends to stand back from most group conversations, preferring to watch and listen. In most instances, she speaks very casually with a slightly higher-than-average vocabulary, attempting to mimic the speech of those around her. However, she occasionally (or when necessary) lapses into formal speech due to her upbringing; she also has a difficult time with colloquialisms. When excited or scared, she has a tendency to unconsciously gesture with her hands and quicken the pace of her speech.

Likes

• Learning about other cultures. Having spent most of her life in one place, she relishes the opportunity to learn about others, where they are from, their customs, etc.
• Cooking. While not the best cook in the realm, she does enjoy practicing and assisting with kitchen duties.
• Naps. One of her favorite activities, when she can spare the time for it. She has very little trouble falling asleep and typically sleeps so soundly that she could “sleep through another calamity" (according to her brother).

Dislikes

• Combat. While she is becoming more accustomed to it since the wars in Doma and Ala Mhigo and knows that it is sometimes a necessity, she is still uncomfortable with participating in actual combat.
• Hot weather. Velancia prefers to avoid warm, humid areas such as jungles and deserts, particularly if it is warm enough to induce sweating.

Fears

• Thunderstorms. This has been a primary fear of hers since she was little, ever since her mother said the storms were caused by Ramuh's anger toward Gridanians.
• Losing her family & friends. She cannot stand the thought of losing any more people who are close to her.
• Giant spiders. They are big and gross and have too many legs. Enough said.

Strengths

• Conjury. Through years of practice, she has become an experienced healer, often able to call on her abilities without much thought or effort.
• Music. Velancia has a natural affinity for music, and she was taught by her mother how to sing as well as how to play the violin and harp.
• Hearing the elements. A gift that she's had since childhood, out of which the wind speaks the loudest.

Weaknesses

• Athletics. She struggles with typical activities such as running, jumping, lifting, etc compared to other adventurers.
• Seasickness. Despite having zero issues when flying, Velancia becomes violently ill whenever she boards any type of ship.

She had a relatively happy childhood. Her family travelled between Ishguard, Tailfeather, and Gridania to breed and sell chocobos. Despite the travelling, her early childhood was rather uneventful.

She's been working as a Healer for the Knights of the Sky free company for the past few months. Her duties include taking care of the stables, running various missions (as requested), and tending to battlefield injuries and illnesses. While it’s very different from anything she’s done prior to this, she is very content with the work she does for the Sky Knights. It’s certainly trying and difficult at times, but she feels like she’s actually making a difference and working to make the world a better place — something she’s desired to do for a long time.

• How much school did she attend, if any? She received some measure of homeschooling growing up from private tutors, where she learned to read and do arithmetic. She enjoyed her lessons, especially any that allowed her an opportunity to read fiction novels.

NPC Reynaud Chantduciel, Father. (♥) - Head of House Chantduciel Character's Thoughts: "I know he means well, but...I really wish he would let me decide how to live my life." He is a loving and doting father but also strict and fiercely overprotective of his only daughter, especially since the death of his beloved wife. He holds high expectations for Velancia as his first-born and future heir, and thus is very hard on her, which she greatly resents. Evangeline Labelle, Mother. (♥✝) - Singer & Entertainer Character's Thoughts: "I miss her every single day. But I know she would want me to enjoy life, not mourn her passing." Velancia and her mother were incredibly close prior to her untimely death. She was always kind, gentle and graceful, with a beautiful voice that captivated all who heard it — everything that Vel aspired to be. Zephyr (♥) - Loyal Companion Character's Thoughts: "He's helped me so much on my journey....I'd be lost without him." An unusual chocobo that was born with bright green feathers, Velancia raised Zephyr from a hatchling and treats him like a member of the family. She rarely goes anywhere without him, whether it be by her choice or him following her on his own. He can be stubborn at times but is naturally very loyal, kind, and helpful.

Vincentus (or Vin) is kind and strong-willed, but much more soft-spoken than his sister. He enjoys taking care of and training chocobos and is quite talented with lancing and fishing. The siblings bonded over their shared love of chocobos growing up and later over their mother's death. Velancia dotes on him often (though less so recently due to her being so far away) and has always been very protective of him. He supports her decision to spend her time helping others out in the world and is the only one who knows her current whereabouts; they write back and forth to each other, unbeknownst to her father.
