Yappo has worn many hats across two score years, letting his zeal carry him and the people around him towards inconceivable ventures many a time. However, bitterness and final ventures made a loner of the man who was once a guild adventurer and then inn manager. |

− | + | Yappo has a long circuit of addictions, faults and blunders. Resentment, followed by inhalants, being the chiefmost in his mind. Entering a cycle of poor fortune and unemployment, he eventually found himself adrift on the streets of Ul'dah, largely by choice rather than circumstance. The only upshot was falling afoul of the Brass Blades and being committed to an alienist who helped bring the man to his feet and come to grips with his poor life state and habits. After a triumphant rehabilitation, he wandered, seeking stimulation and betterment.
<br><br> | <br><br> | ||
− | + | Nobody but him can really sift out truth from lie under every rumor, tale, or nugget of information that once spread through the streets of Ul'dah. What he found on his lonesome trails though left him a jaded man. The cycle continues.</p>

Good for him, because everything about him covers up well enough, everybody likes a good plain canvas. He sports a number of scars that he kept concealed through a variety of methods - makeup for those shallow lines on his face? No problem, hardly noticeable. That scar on the underside of his chin? He has a goatee over it. Shallow whip scars across the back? Really, who is going to see Yappo without a shirt? <i>(The whip scars are another story entirely, though.)</i></p> |

Such growth is generally a birth abnormality most common amongst children whose mothers were exposed to levels of ambient aether in excess of healthy standards. Never mind the other health complications to mother and child, Yappo Rappo suffers from self-esteem issues regarding his freakish height and barrel physique.</p> |
− | <p> | + | <p>He compensates by hunching, sitting, leaning, turning - all kinds of posture adjustments; flatter shoes, certain clothes and patterns giving the mere illusion of being smaller than he actually is overall. Which, more often than not, actually padded his wardrobe with a variety of clothes. It added a silver lining to an uncomfortable mode of being.</p> |

Yappo's taste is off-the-cuff - he is a man equal parts eccentric and sentimental, and many of the stranger or mismatched pieces have been handed down or bought for incredibly specific purposes. <i>(Such as, for example, a certain floppy red hat gifted from a close friend, his father's spencer, or a pair of scandalous knickers bought for a Valentione's Day date.)</i> |

Adaptable. <i>Neurotic.</i></b> Yappo has many personality flaws - with his crowning flaw being a tendency for incredible, incredible pig-headedness. Though travel has reminded him of the importance of conscientiousness, expecting it out of the man day-to-day has been a historically difficult goal to reach given a history of emotional disturbance. His alienist put it in no uncertain terms: Yappo Rappo has an addictive personality, plagued by a prior history of somnus, inhalant and alcohol abuse, financial waste, martyrdom complexes. Add to that survivor's guilt, an abusive relationship in his youth, and unstable lines of work. The deck is fairly stacked. |
− | Skimming past the bad, however, | + | Skimming past the bad, however, a generous eye can see that Yappo is a sympathetic man with skewed morals, an underlying sensitivity and capable of bright glee. (Typically inappropriately, but we're trying to keep positive.) His paternal family comes from artistic and adventurous roots, and he himself has an interest for collecting (puppets, tools, stuffed animals by his own admission), cartography, the stars, and painting, so it's often that you will find him at an easel in his free time, even on the road. |
− | + | To shift back towards the negative, Yappo has a historically bad rap sheet regarding magical and aetherological pursuits. Many people in the past have thought of him as callous (if not malicious), due to the abundance of questionable practices and incidents that served to harm himself or - inadvertently - others. But despite these mishaps, his continued survival proves an impressive intelligence and resourcefulness in light of absolute delusion.
− | + | Above all, one can say that Yappo Rappo is very capable of cleaning up a mess.

His four fulm and bulky build conceal an interest in scholarly pursuits, however; Yappo voraciously reads up on a wide variety of subjects, preferring matters of both magical theory and practice, and even other mundane topics and crafts over reading of martial techniques. Unfortunately, he lacks suitability in magical pursuits, often endangering himself and others in using martial magic - not only because Yappo is thick-headed and stubborn, but moreover because Yappo is constitutionally unfit for most magical practice. |
<p>As a ward of Mealvaan's Gate in his youth, he was taught the foundations of Arcanima, so he is not academically incapable of magic. Of course, after they figured out that Yappo could not form a stable Carbuncle or even bring down a proper Ruin, they focused on the arithmetic over the magical. The only grace given to him from that kind of schooling was that Yappo did eventually find a talent for mending wounds the mundane way - and more importantly found a knack with numbers and ledgers.</p> | <p>As a ward of Mealvaan's Gate in his youth, he was taught the foundations of Arcanima, so he is not academically incapable of magic. − | <p> | + | <p>So given all of that, it should come as little surprise to learn that Yappo actually has quite a practical knowledge of vivimancy and Blue Magic; practices that make minimal use of one's personal aether, and when so, are often aligned with the element of Earth. What makes up the difference in those cases where elemental aspects are key to practical magic happens to be what is referred to as a Magia Board - an immensely expensive, but vital safety net that allows aetherial realignment through a magicite mechanism. |
− | + | Though, some encounters favor a more subtle touch, which is where the rest of his 'kit' comes in. Due to his stature and build, a very effective and relatively less noisy way of getting 'the final say' is through the use of his trusty length of wire. Otherwise, hitting someone over the head with his thick spell ledger is a good, non-lethal alternative.</p>

Something that their father, Yafayel Ofayel, was especially proud of them for - not that the two of them were allowed to be remiss in their duties. Because you see, they were not simple farmers, craftsmen, or scholars; Yappo's maternal lineage stemmed from the members of the Upright Thieves, a long line of Limsan rogues who upheld the rapscallion code and were a stye upon the piratical elements of Vylbrand and her surrounding seas - dutifully keeping them in check. |

Yappo Rappo (Say it with me: Yap-po Rap-po), a fanatic of The Twelve, though nowadays you'd never guess it - he is an adherent of his birth patron Oschon, with the tell-tale wanderlust expected of his adherents. Yappo has worn many hats across two score years, letting his zeal carry him and the people around him towards inconceivable ventures many a time. However, bitterness and final ventures made a loner of the man who was once a guild adventurer and then inn manager.
Even out of work, Yappo believed a person must be physically presentable. (The whip scars are another story entirely, though.) Of course, Yappo is not the plain canvas he pretends to be. For starters, he is two-and-a-quarter fulm over the average height of a Lalafell, standing at 4 fulms. Such growth is generally a birth abnormality most common amongst children whose mothers were exposed to levels of ambient aether in excess of healthy standards. Never mind the other health complications to mother and child, Yappo Rappo suffers from self-esteem issues regarding his freakish height and barrel physique. He compensates by hunching, sitting, leaning, turning - all kinds of posture adjustments; flatter shoes, certain clothes and patterns giving the mere illusion of being smaller than he actually is overall. Which, more often than not, actually padded his wardrobe with a variety of clothes. It added a silver lining to an uncomfortable mode of being. His casual wardrobe comprises mostly shirts and tunics of varying looseness, with only the most billowy articles of clothing clasped together with whatever's on hand. Yappo's taste is off-the-cuff - he is a man equal parts eccentric and sentimental, and many of the stranger or mismatched pieces have been handed down or bought for incredibly specific purposes. (Such as, for example, a certain floppy red hat gifted from a close friend, his father's spencer, or a pair of scandalous knickers bought for a Valentione's Day date.)
Expressive. Adaptable. Neurotic. Yappo has many personality flaws - with his crowning flaw being a tendency for incredible, incredible pig-headedness. Skimming past the bad, however, a generous eye can see that Yappo is a sympathetic man with skewed morals, an underlying sensitivity and capable of bright glee. To shift back towards the negative, Yappo has a historically bad rap sheet regarding magical and aetherological pursuits. Many people in the past have thought of him as callous (if not malicious), due to the abundance of questionable practices and incidents that served to harm himself or - inadvertently - others. But despite these mishaps, his continued survival proves an impressive intelligence and resourcefulness in light of absolute delusion. Above all, one can say that Yappo Rappo is very capable of cleaning up a mess.
This is a list of the items that Yappo usually keeps on his person, unguarded. Feel free to use this information if it comes up logically in the course of RP, such as pickpocketing, a search, etc. Last Updated:
A tongue-in-cheek exchange of jokes, tangentially related to (and sillier than) rumors. All are blatantly dubious - however, some may be laced with fragments of the truth.
Yappo Rappo seems at first glance to excel at martial engagements, retaining a lot of familiarity with dagger-play from his childhood, as well as retaining maneuverability from his less wholesome days as a young adult - to which end he exercises constantly to keep his flexibility and strength up. As a ward of Mealvaan's Gate in his youth, he was taught the foundations of Arcanima, so he is not academically incapable of magic. Of course, after they figured out that Yappo could not form a stable Carbuncle or even bring down a proper Ruin, they focused on the arithmetic over the magical. The only grace given to him from that kind of schooling was that Yappo did eventually find a talent for mending wounds the mundane way - and more importantly found a knack with numbers and ledgers. So given all of that, it should come as little surprise to learn that Yappo actually has quite a practical knowledge of vivimancy and Blue Magic; practices that make minimal use of one's personal aether, and when so, are often aligned with the element of Earth. What makes up the difference in those cases where elemental aspects are key to practical magic happens to be what is referred to as a Magia Board - an immensely expensive, but vital safety net that allows aetherial realignment through a magicite mechanism. Though, some encounters favor a more subtle touch, which is where the rest of his 'kit' comes in. Due to his stature and build, a very effective and relatively less noisy way of getting 'the final say' is through the use of his trusty length of wire. Otherwise, hitting someone over the head with his thick spell ledger is a good, non-lethal alternative.
Here is a list of recent and/or notable fights, roleplay scenes, etc. that CHARACTER has been a part of. This list is by no means all inclusive, and serves more as a general reference as to what HE/SHE has been up to.
Yappo Rappo was the youngest of three brothers, all of whom were raised on a family tradition of bucking the traditional - a trait from the paternal side of the family; eschewing locality and the Plainsfolks' weaknesses for festivities and merriment, instead favoring discipline and stoicism.
The other two brothers were, from eldest to younger, Gepezi Dapezi - Yappo's personal hero growing up; and then Yagefa Poyafa, the over-eager younger child determined to prove himself to everyone. Gepesi and Yagefa were aged 15 and 10 summers respectively when their mother Dazizi Dazi bore Yappo in the year 1549 of the Sixth Astral Era. Despite the large age gap and the complications of Yappo's birth, the brothers had no qualms helping their parents raise him. From Yafayel Ofayel's side of the family came cartographers, navigators, explorers. Not a single rogue, but many a dashing sailor. This reputation carried on as recently as the brothers' grandfather, Oredo Laneddo, who was well-established among the privateers and pirates as a drafter of exquisite maps and a Twelves-given gift for navigating the seas. It was a chance encounter along the Indigo Deep that paired Yappo's parents together in the first place. Though, it took many summers for Oredo Laneddo to stomach the pairing, given the bad blood he held for Dazi's father; the rogue Dadasi Adadsi - and the distaste was mutual. Overall, I'm pretty chill as far as guidelines go. I don't have an extensive list of 'Do's or 'Don't's or things that I personally find triggering. So chances are, you won't offend me or make me uncomfortable unless you're trying to or just being really skeevy in general. Still, for the sake of making sure everyone's on the same page here, let me make a few mentions in particular:
