While her favored element is wind, she is trained in controlling and manipulating all three of the elements of conjuration: earth, water and wind. Her conjury differs from that taught in the Stillglade Fane of Gridania - Yurei's art is more ritualistic and relies heavily upon both song and dance while drawing upon the aether of her surroundings.

She uses this to contact the deceased for their loved ones, or in rare occasions to attempt to directly contact the spirits she and her people venerate. The trance is brought upon by a special elixir she was taught to craft, as well as soft ritual singing. Usage of this talent is especially draining, and can leave her bedridden for bells. It's also unclear if she's actually contacting the spirits, or if the elixir is causing hallucinations....

Using clay pots of her own making, sealing charms and aspected crystals, Yurei is capable of sealing voidsent or other aetherial beings away - preventing them from escaping in most cases and containing their physical forms.

While she's trained for most of her life, she still lacks the stamina to undertake grueling physical actions for long lengths of time. Forced marches, brutal combat, or intense exertion can tire her out far quicker than would be normal. Thusly, she prefers weapons that can keep her foes at range, or performing spellcasting from a distance.</div>

It's very easy for her to tire herself out quickly while casting, and that's not even including the natural toll channeling such energies leaves on her body. She runs the very real risk of collapsing in the middle of dangerous situations if she over-extends herself past her limits.</div>

However, she's fully cognizant of the fact that many people don't want that, and actively seek out the opposite. In particular, cultists stand out. While many are simply misguided or disillusioned people, Yurei feels no qualms about killing them. The choice she makes is the right one, but not the easy one.

Yurei's attire is often a match of white and red, both while serving at the temple and while wandering the Shroud. She can often be seen with her staff and bow slung across her back as she goes about her daily tasks with a cheery smile on her face.
Fleeing the advancing Garlean war machine, Yurei and her family left the shrine behind. Meeting with a group of shady individuals known as the Tatsu-kai, they made a deal: they would take Yurei to Eorzea, and her parents would pay them in heaping sums of gil. Instead, the Tatsu-kai took the gil and the girl, then left her parents to burn.
In Eorzea, Yurei ‘worked’ with the the Tastu-kai, still fulfilling her job as a priestess by binding voidsent to masonwork jars of her own design. She was essentially a prisoner of the gang, forced to bind the demons away, which they would then use as distractions or backup in their criminal acts. It was only through the graces of a rival organization known as the Black Chocobo Gang that Yurei was freed from the employ of the Tatsu-kai, allowing her to escape.
Without the backing of the Tatsu-kai, and with no home to turn to, the young auri girl took to wandering the breadth of Eorzea alongside various caravans - she had decided to try and keep doing the only thing she knew how to: be a priestess. In her searching, she visited the wind-swept isles of Vylbrand, the shaded woods of the Black Shroud, the sandy dunes of Thanalan, and the bitter tundra of Coerthas. Each time, she looked for a place to erect a temple to the Spirits - and after her journey, she reached an agreement with the Seedseers of Gridania: they would allow her to rebuild a ruined home in the Shroud, and in turn, she would assume the duties of a Hearer - to tend to the wood as it needed.
Elated with the news, Yurei and a small group of Doman refugees set about rebuiling the home into what it stands as today, Saionji Temple, nestled in the eastern reaches of the Shroud. Yurei works alongside the Wood Wailers and the Order of the Twin Adder, when not serving as a spiritual guide and maiden to those Domans who choose to seek out her small sanctuary.
