Zigovali Rigovali is an Ul'Dahn Lalafell from the Silver Bazaar, a chronic charmer, and an aspiring arcanist and astrologian adept at alliteration. A member of the Pathfinders and a self-proclaimed "oratory virtuoso", Zigovali prides himself on his quick wits and energetic spirit.

Appearance

Zigovali stands three fulms high, with long black and dark brown hair, dark skin, and bright golden eyes. He is most often seen wearing brightly-colored asymmetrical outfits with a red bandana, and wearing bright red painted lines and dots under his eyes. He enjoys wearing whatever jewelry he can find (most of it inexpensive tin or copper).
He speaks with a subtle, suave accent, often pronouncing S-sounds closer to a Z-sound.

Personality

Zigovali is an outspoken and verbose individual, peppering conversations with bursts of alliteration and long words. His ego more than makes up for what he lacks in size, though any fabrications are quickly dashed by his readily apparent inexperience.
While his inexperience surely gets the best of him, he is excellent at using his apparent ignorance to mask his razor sharp mind, ever crafting and searching for plans and schemes to utilize at a moment's notice. Zigovali is never without some sort of plan or idea, even if that plan only occurred to him seconds ago. However, this same inexperience is also a great frustration to him; he sets very high expectations for himself, and is quick to anger if he fails to meet them.
Zigovali prides himself on his quick wits, charming eloquence, and boundless optimism to help him through whatever he may encounter, in addition to his surprisingly innate arcane abilities. His greatest setback is his lack of forethought; he speaks nearly as quickly as he thinks, leaving him little time for deliberation and getting him into trouble as soon as his quick thinking lets him escape it.

History

Childhood

Zigovali was born in the Silver Bazaar to Ziziva Ziva, a Dunesfolk dancer and rogue, and Davali Rigovali, a Plainsfolk peddler and arcanist, on the 29th Sun of the Sixth Astral Moon in the year 1557 of the Sixth Astral Era. Due to the Rigovali family's low income, nearly all of Zigovali's education came from his father's improvised lessons and his mother's stories. Zigovali does not remember much of his early childhood, but clearly recalls the financial troubles his parents endured throughout his life, leading to their joining the Immortal Flames to attempt to cover expenses. Zigovali himself attempted to scrounge together gil however he could, performing odd and sometimes illicit jobs for anyone he could find.

The Garlean Invasion and The Calamity

Upon the VIIth Legion's invasion of Eorzea, Zigovali's parents were needed by the Immortal Flames more frequently, and he often found himself living at home alone while they were away. On the occasions his parents returned home, he sought to lift their spirits as much as possible, and the last few years leading up to the Calamity were both the happiest and saddest times of Zigovali's childhood.
Three nights before his parents' final deployment, Zigovali was given the signature red bandana his mother was always seen wearing. She instructed him to hold onto it for "safe-keeping" until she returned. Unbeknownst to Zigovali, this was the last he would see of his mother.
Ziziva and Davali were both slain in the Battle of Carteneau. Zigovali did not learn of his parents' deaths until over a week later, when an Immortal Flames representative delivered the news.

Post-Calamity

Only days after receiving news of his parents' deaths, Zigovali was forced to abandon his childhood home with whatever he could carry, selling several family heirlooms in the process. First traveling to Ul'Dah, Zigovali relegated himself to the alleys with other refugees, turning to petty crime on many occasions to make ends meet. Zigovali attempted to emulate his mother's storytelling to entertain the refugees around him free of charge, or the patrons of various Thanalan taverns for gil.
During his time as a vagabond, Zigovali found himself performing many favors for a large variety of people, from fellow refugees and petty criminals to wealthy merchants and other influential figures. Despite his impoverished state, he often rejected repayment in gil, instead insisting that they simply owed him a favor. While a seemingly innocent request, in the several years he spent wandering, he never forgot a single one of these favors owed him--something that would later serve him well.

Moving Beyond Pearl Lane

Several years after the Calamity, Zigovali's travels finally took him beyond the borders of Thanalan, and brought him into contact with new friends and allies. The largest change to his life occurred in the form of a Free Company, the Pathfinders; he accidentally stumbled upon Neverfar's Tavern one fateful night, and was persuaded to submit an application to join. He was admitted almost the next day, and his new occupation allowed him to move out of Pearl Lane, and into his own private quarters in the estate.
However, becoming a Pathfinder was not without its perils. The company soon found itself at odds with a rival Free Company of nefarious intentions, placing many Pathfinders in danger. Zigovali quickly mounted a self-initiated investigation, which rapidly grew into the establishment of a vast network of contacts. Built upon the dozens upon dozens of favors owed him in the past, Zigovali soon found himself in possession of a sizable amount of resources, ranging from business dealings to discreet contacts and connections both legal and illicit, and with large, undisclosed amounts of gil to maintain it all.

◢ Moderate Rumors (Moderately difficult to overhear)
"One time, I spotted him reading a love novel--a really sappy, feminine one! He left soon afterwards; I don't think that is something he wants people to see him doing!" -- a Gridanian conjurer
"I saw him runnin' from Brass Blades through the Ruby Road Exchange. I dunno what was goin' on, but my guess is: he did somethin' stupid." -- a roegadyn traveler
◢ Rare Rumors (Very difficult or rarely overheard)
"I've seen him in the Quicksand, spinning tales and trying to woo maidens. Yet I've also seen him along Pearl Lane, talking to a couple men of unsavory sorts, and trading them gil for what looked like documents of some kind. That man is hiding something; he's like two sides of a gil." -- an Ul'Dahn merchant
◢ PC Rumors (Rumors from other players' characters)
Feel free to add any rumors your characters may have said about Zigovali!
"He is a smooth talker, even if he is completely hopeless with women." -- Rhela Aliapoh, fellow Pathfinder and Conjurer
"He puts on a good show of confidence, but I don't think it's real. It will be someday, though, I know it!" -- Ayla Thatcher, Gridanian Bard

"I think he's very clever. He's talkative and has an impressive vocabulary... a-and he seems to most like putting it to use when complimenting people, which I suppose isn't a bad thing." --Shoshopu Shopu, Lalafell arcanist
"It isn't often you see one with such an unyielding drive. His desire to do well is palpable, energetic speech and well thought words doing a fine job of presenting his ambition. I do believe he needs to realize just how fast he should take his endeavors. At the speed he's going, he could easily trip, suffering far worse than a scrape of the knee." --Eddard Holt, Officer of the Pathfinders
"Oh, dear Zigo. I've never seen someone quite like him. He's like...a pressurized ball of energy that threatens to explode everywhere at once. I think helping him focus it might be one of the best ways I could help him. " --Madison Brookstone, Officer of the Pathfinders
"Think he must brush his teeth with gunpowder so he can go around shooting his mouth off all day. So much talking. Coming from someone who can't shut up themselves. Probably compensating for something." --Khoba Lhyr, freelance conjurer
"Honestly, he's kind of a little shite. He knows when he needs to stop talking, he just doesn't. And yet, after listening to him talk for a while, you might say he's got a good heart. There's definitely more to the man than meets the eye." --Eaubront Shopont, traveling swordsman
"My old man taught me that brevity was ever the soul of wit. I guess he missed that lesson." --Averill Rooks, vagrant

Shoshopu Shopu : A Lalafell summoner of great skill and intellect. What began as Zigovali's usual flirtatious advances quickly evolved into a romantic interest--one that he did not run from, as he had done with those before. Despite his expectations, Shoshopu agreed to see where a romantic relationship might lead, and he has been incredibly devoted to her ever since. Zigovali takes a great deal of pleasure in charming Shoshopu, while also staying unerringly loyal to her, and respectful of her wishes.
Ayla Thatcher : A Hyur bard from Gridania that, while quick to reject Zigovali's advances, became a fast friend. She taught him how to read and write Eorzean--a skill he acquired rapidly. She has grown to become a good friend and confidant to Zigovali, and while he does not see her often, every meeting with her is a delight.
Eddard Holt : A Hyur swordsman, and one of the leaders of the Pathfinders. Amongst the first in the company to see Zigovali's potential, Eddard's faith has been a great boon to him. In return, Zigovali constantly strives to assist Eddard in whatever way he can, even putting himself in harm's way (something very, very rare for Zigovali to do).
Madison Brookstone : A Hyur astrologian, and one of the leaders of the Pathfinders. Taking Zigovali's initial advances in stride, Madison has grown to become one of his role models, and he continually aspires to achieve the same level of wisdom and grace as she. With the recent revelation of his astromantic talent, Madison has taken a great interest in Zigovali's abilities, despite her deep desire to keep her own secret, and has become his mentor in astromancy and astrology.
S'kye S'yoponi : A Lalafell and fellow Pathfinder, S'kye's initial oddities gave way to hidden wisdom, and she and Zigovali have since become good friends. While Zigovali still has a great deal of questions about her, he is content with S'kye's friendship all the same.
Khortani Himaa : An Au Ra herbalist with shady business dealings. Despite being the Pathfinder to convince him to apply, and having collaborated with her on occasion, Zigovali is distrustful of Khortani, and is constantly watching his back around her. He is certain that she feels much the same way.
Averill Rooks : A Hyur warrior that Zigovali had a hand in recruiting to the Pathfinders, when the man was found in a cavern in Coerthas. His immense strength combined with enchanted axe is a constant worry to Zigovali, as is the man's apparently tempered state. The two have argued and clashed over a variety of issues, showing diametrically opposed principles; thus, Zigovali is not very fond of Averill at all, despite knowing that much of his violence is no fault of his own.
