GENERAL INFORMATION

Euridice Palmer (Pronunciation: you-rid-eh-see) is the niece and daughter of two self-made men in traditional Ul'dah style. Originally Sharlayan scholars, Eadwin and Royce Palmer, along with Royce's wife Lydia, established Palmer's Curiosities, where they appraised and peddled relics and antiques. But when Lydia perished in the Calamity, the pain was too much for Royce to bear, and he followed her to the grave a year later, leaving their only daughter behind.

Now it falls to Dicey and her bachelor uncle Eadwin to run the shop. Day to day matters are overseen by Eadwin, while Dicey herself puts her hefty inheritance to work financing expeditions and archaeological digs. Arguably she could spend the rest of her days lazing on the beach in Costa del Sol, but her family's legacy and Sharlayan background have given her a thirst for learning, and an endless curiosity about what lies under the sands.

APPEARANCE

There is a painting of Lydia Palmer as a young woman in the back room of the shop, and if Dicey stands next to it, the resemblance is uncanny. Both have messy, long blonde hair and blue-grey eyes fringed with long lashes, both are lightly tanned from their time in the desert sun, and both have a body shape that suggests an equal love of physical activity and tea cakes. The biggest difference Dicey's streak of white hair, running from her left temple, all the way down to the tip of her half-hearted braid. She favors comfortable clothes that allow her a range of movement, but is quite aware that she is an attractive woman and also enjoys showing off that part of herself.

PERSONALITY

There are certain behaviors that are expected of Ul'dah's wealthy young women. Nominally speaking, Dicey does follow these behaviors. She is a well-bred woman and it shows when it needs to. Comfortable navigating high society, she is an expert in etiquette. However, once she's left to her own devices, she's much more likely to be found unwinding with a mug of something frosty and poring over a dusty old tome in a common alehouse. Despite her privilege, she is always one to judge others on their merit rather than their riches, and besides, alehouses are a great place to keep up with latest gossip.

At a dig site, Dicey is all business. She has a small company of amateur scholars and novice archaeologists, and she serves as both their boss and their mentor, keeping them well paid while sharing the condensed knowledge her parents passed down.

Without a doubt, her greatest strength is her intellect. If you've got a question, Dicey Palmer probably has an answer, or at least knows where to find somebody who does. Many would-be suitors have attempted to woo her with pretty, empty words, only to discover that there's brains behind the beauty. Fiery and independent, it's going to take much more than a handsome face and copious gil to win her over.

She is commonly described as polite and quick-witted, well-educated, and occasionally sassy. Getting on her bad side is not recommended, not only because of her sharp tongue, but because she's rumored to have dabbled in thaumaturgy. Stay long enough while she's drinking, and you may get to see a whole different side of her, a boisterous, amorous drunk.

CURRENT INVENTORY

This is a list of the items that Euridice currently is keeping on her person. Feel free to use this information if it comes up logically in the course of RP, such as pickpocketing, a search, etc.

Last Updated: 10/13/18

  • On The Ancient Civilizations of Thanalan A large but not excessively heavy tome, one that's definitely seen a few dozen summers. There's a scrap of orange ribbon marking her place about a third of the way through.

  • Prospero the ferret A small, mostly white creature who rides around in her rucksack or on her shoulders. She frequently feeds him scraps of her own meals.

  • Small golden locket With pictures of her parents inside, delicately painted.

BACKSTORY

Born in the darkness of winter, Euridice Palmer entered into a world of privilege from the moment she took her first breath. Her parents, Sons of Saint Coinach who sold and appraised antiquities to earn money for their expeditions and ended up quite wealthy, vowed to give her the best education they could afford, but that education started at home. Described as something of a prodigy, she learned to read shortly before she turned three years old, and was scouring her parents' history and magic tomes by the time she was seven. She was sent to school in Sharlayan, but returned to Ul'dah upon completing her formal education. She speaks fondly of her days there, but the desert is always her home. When she wasn't learning abroad, she was rubbing elbows with the moneyed elite and learning to move around in their circles. Several young men attempted to speak for her hand, but every one of them was shot down, usually by the woman herself, who found herself endlessly bored with that sort of life.

The first few years after her return home were idyllic. Dicey accompanied her mother, still an active researcher, on digs in Thanalan and Mor Dhona. Her father and uncle taught her to appraise artifacts. She met a young man whom she quite fancied, a soldier in the Immortal Flames, and they had tentative plans to be wed.

The Calamity changed it all. Dicey's mother died in the chaos. Her beau was never found, missing and presumed dead at Carteneau. She scarcely had time to grieve before her father, distraught, took his own life less than a year later. While Dicey's personality seemed the same on the inside, she had a brief flirtation with a drinking problem in the aftermath, and generally began to engage in escapist behavior. It was only thanks to her uncle's stern but loving hand that she was able to pull herself together and become his partner in running the family's shop.

RECENT HISTORY

It took a few years, but Dicey has found her path in life once more. She's taken up her mother's mantle and, using her incomplete research notes, has been digging in Mor Dhona, uncovering odd Allagan relics of likely nominal importance. She has also begun to do some digs in Thanalan, spurred by her interest in Belah'dian history, particularly around the Temple of Quarn. When she's not digging, she spends most of her time in Ul'dah, helping her uncle Eadwin run the store and appraising the relics that come through the doors.

FAMILY & TRIBE

These are mostly backstory-related relationships.

LIST OF FAMILY MEMBERS
Lydia Palmer, mother. ()
Dicey’s Thoughts: "She was amazing. Brilliant. A scholar and historian. I owe it all to her, really. I can never fill her shoes, but I try to live up to her legacy."

A Son of Saint Coinach and archaeologist, Lydia Palmer was a frequently seen face on many digs in Mor Dhona and beyond. She was working on her latest find when the Calamity occurred, claiming her life.

Royce Palmer, father. (()
Dicey's Thoughts: "I learned to read sitting on his knee, looking at the books he authored. I miss him so much."

Another Son of Saint Coinach, Royce Palmer was Lydia's partner in scholarly pursuits as well as marriage. While it was Lydia who did the majority of the field work, Royce wrote about her findings. After Lydia's death, he took his own life, unable to continue without her.

Eadwin Palmer, uncle. ()
Dicey’s Thoughts: "When I lost my father, Uncle Eadwin stepped in. He's all I have left of my family. A bit of a killjoy sometimes, but he's just looking out for me."

The proprietor of Palmer's Curiosities, Eadwin is usually the man at the front desk. He's in his late forties, with salt and pepper hair and a beard to match. He has a slightly gruff demeanor, but treats all relics with the utmost reverence as befitting a Son of Saint Coinach.

NON-FAMILY

Listed here are the non-family characters, both PC and NPC, that Euridice has interacted with enough or in such a way for her to form a real opinion about them.

Last Update... 10/18/18.

LIST OF NON-FAMILY RELATIONS
Tucker North, friend and colleague. ($)
Dicey’s Thoughts: "Nice enough. Smart, reliable. You just have to put your foot down when he starts hitting on you."

Thanalan is arguably no place for the bastard of a voidtouched and a pirate, but Tucker North is a frequent companion on her digs. Dicey views him as intelligent and good company, but is bothered by his flirtatious nature at times.

Elizabeth Lyons, friend and colleague. ($)
Dicey’s Thoughts: "I'm glad somebody on this dig is good with firearms. She's great company, too!"

Sometimes dragged along by Tucker North, Beth Lyons is an on-again-off-again colleague. The fiery pirate lass is one of Dicey's favorite people to have a drink with.

Drakkaern Vesperius, the lost love. ()
Dicey’s Thoughts: "Ten years he's gone, and then he thinks he can reappear in my life just like that? Though to be fair, I didn't exactly say no."

Dicey's schoolgirl crush disappeared the night before a winter formal, years ago. Recently reunited in Ul'dah, the pair have tentatively started where they left off.

Momodi Modi, Quicksand proprietress. ()
Dicey’s Thoughts: "She keeps the ale and the gossip flowing in equal amounts."

Given her habitual alehouse attendance, it's no surprise that Dicey and Momodi know each other by now. The Quicksand's proprietress knows all the best secrets, after all.

RUMORS

These are rumors, both from NPCs and PCs, that one might overhear in regards to Euridice.

◢ Common Rumors - Easily overheard. Use these freely!
  • "She had a tough go of it in Sharlayan. She was a little rich girl from Ul'dah, after all. Not one of them." -- wealthy heiress.

  • "The poor dear. When her father killed himself she simply lost her mind. I heard General Aldynn himself found her slumped in the street and reeking of bad ale and put her behind bars for the night to sober up. Worked wonders, apparently." -- nosy merchant

◢ Uncommon Rumors - A little more difficult to hear. Use sparingly or ask first!
  • "She was with child when the Calamity hit. I don't know if she drank the baby out or just paid a visit to the Alchemists. Maybe the grief did the job for her." -- disdainful woman

  • "The Palmer family has been mucking with Allagan relics since before the Calamity and look where that got poor Lydia! Now Euridice's doing it too! Mark my words, she'll die young." -- pearl-clutching traditionalist

◢ Rare Rumors - Very rarely overheard. Please ask before using!
  • "She's dabbling in something. Thaumaturgy, maybe, but I'd be willing to bet it's something darker." -- nervous archaeologist

  • "All it takes is a few too many ales and Little Princess Palmer is easier than a back-alley whore." -- tipsy lecher

ROLEPLAY HOOKS

  • Got a relic or antique? Bring it to Palmer's Curiosities, or track Dicey down elsewhere in Ul'dah. She'll be happy to appraise it free of charge!
  • Oh no! Prospero wandered off! Have you seen a ferret anywhere? Mostly white? His owner misses him dearly and will be very happy if you return him. He's got a little collar with an ID tag!
  • Trying to woo the Palmer heiress? Well, you can certainly try. Hopefully you're interesting, because Dicey has no time for boring people and money can't buy a personality.
  • Drinking buddies! Have a few drinks with Dicey. Maybe you'll find common ground?

THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND...

I prefer to play in Discord. It's just so much more casual, you know? And I'm a multi-para RPer (and I prefer my partners to be, too) and it's just much easier to write a good post on Discord than it is in game.
Real life always comes before RP. Period. This is a game, a thing we do to have fun. It's not a chore and it shouldn't be. Real life emergencies and situations are much more important.
18+ required, 25+ preferred. I won't shut you down because you're 22, but I expect you to be a mature adult. I definitely won't RP with people under 18 because I'm open to things like mature themes. I'm well over 25, myself.
No ERP without plot. I'm not opposed to an ERP scene or two or five, but there has to be a point behind the smut. I'm looking for long-term RP here, so even if we're playing a one-night stand I'd want it to be part of something ultimately bigger.
No death or permanent disfigurement. And please talk to me before you injure my character. I'm a big believer in player consent.

GUIDELINES

Just a few heads up about me and my RP dos and don'ts.

I WILL NOT...

Play a non-consensual scene. Nope. I am not about that. If it's part of something larger or important (are you gonna come rescue Dicey or something?) I might be open to the concept, but let's talk about it first.
Take anything sexual OOC. I'm married. "But your husband doesn't have to know!" No, trust me, he'll know. Because I'll tell him.
Ditch you without warning. And I expect you to show me the same courtesy. If we're not having fun, just let me know and we'll end the RP. I'll do the same.

I WILL...

Give you my best writing. Because of the nature of Discord, I can take my time writing a post. If I'm falling asleep or have had a really awful day or something, I may ask to delay the RP so I can give you my best! I'll always be super understanding if you need to do the same.
