P E R S O N A L I T Y

Gyeil carries the mentality of being seen over being heard, that is to say, she speaks little in crowded company, making conversation when addressed, or if the topic in particular is one that she has interest in. She doesn't approach people carefully, all being said, as she is quick to speak her mind on matters or people that she might disagree with, which may lead her to being viewed as brash, or in some cases defiant. People approaching or just meeting with Gyeil may notice that she tends to keep a level, even expression when she speaks, eyes carefully watching as if examining for ticks and and habits that others might exhibit, a habit developed over her years of living in the Azim Steppes and needing to hunt to survive. She carries herself with an easy confidence, her posture and body language never faltering.

Moving past initial encounters, Gyeil is steadfast in her beliefs, and a stalwart ally to those she knows and loves, willing to fight by their side at a moments notice, and even sacrifice herself for those closest to her if needed. Her curt behaviour comes more into check with the people she knows, aware that such behaviour is not necessary when dealing with people already close to her. She grows defensive of the people she views in a positive light, cherishing them like kin or siblings, or adoring them as a lover, and inherits a mentality of wanting to do anything she could to at least keep those people in her life happy, even if it means making herself uncomfortable.

To those she views negatively, she is curt, fierce, combative, and defiant, intent on getting the last word no matter where she is. Retreat is never an option for her, and admitting defeat, be it in a debate or in a physical confrontation, is a rare occurence. In the event that she ever is defeat, she will do everything she could to take the joy of the victory from her opponent, should they be hostile, or congratulate them in their victory if the opponent is on neutral or good standing with her. In debates involving her virtue, she is unwavering, firmly believing that what she knows is right, and willing to argue for bells on end so that the other may see her side, or at least convince the other that there is no changing her mind.

A P P E A R A N C E

Gyeil stands taller than most female Xaela, her most noticeable feature being her clay red skin and deeper crimson hair. Her body is toned, muscular, and very well defined, made only that much more exaggerated thanks to her intense training regiment as a monk and martial artist. While not heavy set, she is close to approaching peak physical fitness, well rounded in both strength, speed, and endurance. Her hair is never allowed past her shoulders, kept shoddily and roughly as though it were trimmed by a dagger instead of a proper pair of scissors. Behind her bangs are two crimson and deep magenta eyes, with lighter reddish pink limbal rings, setting her iris alight with a soft contrast of colour brightness, a difference that becomes more noticeable as her eyes narrow and fluctuate in differing light conditions and times of stress. Framing her face are a pair of horns that sweep forward, the points ending with bands looped around them, upon which her many linkpearls are set in. Her dark obsidian coloured scales have taken over a good amount of her head, occupying the bridge of her nose and some of her forehead, as well as portions of her cheek, which continue further down to encase her neck and jawline. Gyeil wears little makeup, much rather preferring war paints if she must apply anything to her face.

Adorning her left arm specifically is a tattoo encompassing her the entirety of the limb, stopping just at her shoulder and her wrist. The tattoo consists of a sleeve of natural looking scales, similar in construction and colour to her own naturally occurring scales, creating the illusion that her entire arm is covered with an overgrowth of scales. Interweaving along the contours of the muscle of her arm are licking flame, the origins of which seem to be several inked burning scales, and some flames even erupting from under the plates, as though the scales were doing what they could to cover a raging fire.

Gyeil's body is not without scars, her greatest scar being a semicircle of puncture marks around the side of her stomach, with a matching semicircle around her back, this scar looking as though it healed well after being seen to by a medical professional. While her left arm is now covered in inking, and thus somewhat masking the slash scars on that arm, her right arm fully displays a network of slash scars, showing no rhyme or reason as though her arm had taken the brunt of many shallow strikes from small blades. Many of these have healed well, leaving but a faint outline against her clay red skin. On her left shoulder both front and back, there is a puncture scar, with the front being the entrance wound, and the back being the exit wound. This scar is typically covered by her raiments.

Her typical dressings are very simple. Day to day, she wears a light red chestwrap to preserve the modesty of her upper torso, the wrap extending up her shoulder to cover the puncture scar, as well as accompanying sleeve dressings of varying shades of red. Her choice of pants vary depending on what she plans on doing for the day, more relaxing days seeing her wear a baggy, if somewhat torn set of blue pants that allow for comfort and freedom of movement, with accompanying sandals. On more busy days, Gyeil wears a sturdier set of reinforced pants, her legs mostly dominated by greaves that are adorned with spikes at the knee and at the heel, capable of delivering devastating blows from those respective areas.

Khoji Malqir () - Sister in the Shadow
More like half-sisters than full sisters, Gyeil and Khoji shared a mother, but their closeness could convince any onlooker into believing that they were full siblings. They were brought up together, Gyeil learning to hunt at the same time that Khoji was old enough to be brought along on those same hunts. Outside of the hunt, the two share a very sisterly relationship, with Gyeil acting the part of the tough big sister that would look after the younger one, and Khoji doing what she could to be an absolute pest (or so Gyeil would say, she truly enjoyed the trouble her little sister got the both of them into.

Just before their Malqir camp on the Azim Steppes was destroyed by the Garlean advances, Khoji had been assigned to a patrol to watch for Jhungid that were reported in the area, and subsequently went missing, much to Gyeil's horror and dismay. Her attempts to lead a search party would turn out to be in vain, as soon after, the Garleans arrived to ambush their camp, and they were forced to flee their home, and Gyeil worst of all, forced to flee without her beloved sister.

Several cycles later, Gyeil had reluctantly dismissed the idea of ever seeing her sister again, knowing that if the Garleans didn't get her, the Jhungid probably killed her, or worse. Even in that moment of unwilling absolution, hope and fortune served to prove her wrong, as she was reunited with her sister through Srah's sheer fortune of finding her at the Grindstone. When the two met face to face and recognized each other, the two embraced and shed tears at the base of the Sultan tree, Gyeil vowing never to let her sister go again.

As the older sister proceeds with her monk training now, she keeps a close eye on Khoji's relationships, and how well she is getting along in the new camp of Malqir. Her current relationship with a Dotharl is cause for some concern on her part, but she endeavors to support her sister no matter her choice.
Sokhani Malqir () - Serpentine Teacher
While first impressions between the two were rocky at best, Sokhani and Gyeil had a common ground in one thing: their love of drinking. Sokhani became a prime candidate for Gyeil to approach and drink with - most other members of the Malqir clan either didn't drink, were too young to start, or would only drink in the camp away from the city. Their friendship didn't extend too much past that point in the time, but soon it would be boosted along with a suggestion made by the leader of the current Malqir camp: that Gyeil train under Sokhani as a martial artist. Enjoying the idea of being able to challenge and prove herself, while at the same time improving her own abilities, she took to this offer, starting to follow Sokhani more closely than before until their training could begin.

In her interactions with the azure monk, Gyeil was asked to accompany her to Coerthas to fetch a book that would help Sokhani settle an issue of her past, and in that journey, came to understand and respect Sokhani's condition much more so than before. Soon after this, Gyeil insisted that her training begin, no longer willing to wait for her leaders to grant her leave to do so, and began to study under her teacher. The training was brutal at first, and remained brutal throughout the entirety of the first moon, her hands often left fractured and broken, and even at one point an entire arm. It was during these injuries that Gyeil came to understand that the typically scowling, apathetic Au Ra was far more kind and sympathetic that she originally thought, tenderly caring for her wounds and even her needs when both of her hands were rendered useless, and soon found herself enamored and eventually infatuated with the monk as they continued to meet with each other, and gained a connection that few could share.

By the end of the first month of her training, Gyeil confessed her love to Sokhani, and after some hesitation, the feeling was eventually reciprocated, bringing the two closer together than any previous encounter. It wouldn't be out of the ordinary at this point for Gyeil to share the room that Sokhani had, sometimes finding herself away from the Malqir camp for weeks at a time. The threatened loss of this room has also forced Gyeil to find work in the Malraj Goldsmithy, but she is determined to help Sokhani keep her room so that she, Gyeil, Kharanai, and Adalhaid have somewhere in common to stay.

While the both of them still seem to be able to keep their relationship and the the training that Gyeil was undergoing separate, away from the training Gyeil enjoys accompanying the monk wherever she might want to go, and helping comfort Sokhani should she ever slip into a bout of depression or sadness that seemed to happen far too often.

◢ Common Rumors - Easily overheard. Use these freely!
"I see her in that seedy looking back alley behind the Quicksand all the time, just waiting there sometimes like she has nothing better to do. Little lady like her needs to be inside." - Quicksand Barfly
"She enjoys her drink. She and that one-eyed blue one that she likes to hang around with. Strawberry brandy, if I recall. Everytime I see them coming, i just prepare a couple bottles of that." - Ul'dahn Barkeep

◢ Uncommon Rumors - A little more difficult to hear. Use sparingly or ask first!
"She just punches rocks. Punches rocks and works out, that's all she does down there. Everyday as if she were some forgekin, and you know what else? The rocks actually -crack-!" - Silver Bazaar Merchant
"I don't think she lives in this city. She has a place she goes to with her friends, but at the same time, they don't come back every night. I wouldn't be surprised if she has another camp somewhere in Thanalan with her kind. I should ask an officer in the Immortal Flames, they should have an envoy with them, maybe." - Ul'dahn Property Owner

◢ Rare Rumors - Very rarely overheard. Please ask before using!
"I remember when the first wave of her kind started to come into Ul'dah. A lot of them travelled in groups, stuck together like glue, but she... no, she travelled alone, and judging by the look on her face, she didn't do so intentionally." - Flames Officer
“She came around here once with one of our own warriors, helping serve cactus tea. We never payed her much mind, and it seemed to piss her off, and she rambled in her broken tongue about how we were all the same and had a common enemy. Wonder why she just couldn't leave us alone.” - Ala Mhigan Vagrant
