WELCOME

Interested in roleplaying with a small, close-knit group on a low-population server? Just moved to Goblin from Balmung and looking for an in-character outlet? Want to try roleplaying but don't want to leave your hardcore raiding FC? The Heralds of Thaliak would love to have you!

Instead of a general-purpose, 'roleplay-in-the-name' linkshell, the Heralds of Thaliak seeks to promote an in-context guild of adventurers, scholars, detectives and mercenaries that takes contracts for interested parties. Your character should have a reason for putting a linkpearl in her ear, and this group represents linkpearl ownership as being an active member, or Herald, of a guild. Our linkshell was founded with the goal of allowing players to participate in roleplay on their own terms—while still being able to be in a Free Company with real-life friends, raid groups, or the like.

If you'd like to join or learn more about us, contact Thouridos Alces (or any of our Venture Captains) in-game. You can also visit our:

ABOUT THE LINKSHELL

The Heralds of Thaliak are a group of people from all over Hydaelyn, and each has his or her own interests, agendas, and personalities. Out-of-character, this group is much the same--a group of all sorts of FFXIV players that come together to create enjoyable stories together. As such, maintaining a respectful, open-minded, and relaxed atmosphere is vitally important to the stability of the group. Whether you joined just to roleplay an hour a week between raids or you plan to spend countless hours writing stories of your character's exploits, the Heralds of Thaliak exists as a place for you to enjoy yourself, express your creativity, and generally have fun with other people who want to do the same.

GUIDELINES

Discriminatory or Hateful Speech - Roleplay in FFXIV often involves profanity or taboo/adult subjects when the situation calls for it. The Heralds of Thaliak are all adults and need to be able to either handle this type of material or privately, politely, and maturely address subjects they find problematic. That said, racist, sexist, or otherwise discriminatory language is not acceptable in this linkshell, even if 'it is what your character would say.' This is petty, hurtful, and (most importantly) easily avoidable. Roleplayers are expected to be mature enough to not call someone a 'retard,' say that something they don't like is 'gay,' or describe their latest PvP victory as 'raping' the other team. These words are unambiguously hurtful, their use is unconscionable, and a staggering amount of fantastic alternatives exist. If any member notices this type of behavior, please respectfully address it in LS chat/Discord, then contact a Venture Captain or Loremaster to help mediate and resolve the situation.
Obnoxious or Forced Participation - If someone doesn't want to roleplay, they shouldn't have to. That means that if roleplaying in /say in a crowded, public area is offending or bothering other players, it is the roleplayer's job to leave, find a different chat channel to use, or find another way to avoid frustrating parties that didn't choose to participate. Similarly, roleplayers shouldn't have to go any further than they are comfortable in any regard. If someone asks not to participate or to change the nature of the participation, that needs to be taken seriously--regardless of any previous action or if they were okay with it before.
Munchkin-ism/One-upping/Competitive Roleplaying - Everyone wants to have fun, and roleplayers should consider the interests and stories of their companions when playing their characters, writing their stories, or interacting with their groups. Hogging the spotlight, purposefully disrupting other people's play or stories, and over-the-top plot or character traits (e.g. "I am actually a deity in Hyur form!" or "My character would have known this unknowable information!") doesn't promote an enjoyable atmosphere for everyone involved. These behaviors provide fun for one person at the cost of the fun of others, which is not acceptable.
In-Character vs, Out-Of-Character - The Heralds of Thaliak doesn't assume that any member roleplays their character at all times--while this may be the case, many members will only choose to roleplay during specifically scheduled events or over LS chat. That said, the in-game linkshell chat should only be used for in-character (IC) speech. If you want to talk about your local soccer FC, the Tour de France, or the newest Marvel movie with LS-mates, please do so--but please do so in the "General OOC" discord chat. If you must speak out-of-character in-game, put two parentheses around your chat message; for example, "((One second; the pizza guy is here! BRB))."
Pedantry - Roleplaying via text is a for of writing, and while everyone wants to read fantastically-written works of art, not everyone is capable of writing immaculately. While we do ask that members try to avoid using internet shorthand ("wen r u coming 2 ralgrs rech") and attempt to capitalize/punctuate their sentences, nobody has the right to be a grammar pedant. The mistake of missing a capitalized letter or misspelling "Merlwyb Bloefhiswyn" is minuscule compared to the insult and conflict generated by pointing out each error and making a scene. People make mistakes. That's fine. Additionally, this game is 'relax time' for many people, and some of us are writers or editors in the real world. Give everyone the benefit of the doubt when it comes to writing. As a rule of thumb: feel free to correct yourself, but don't correct anyone else.
Good Faith/Reconciliation - If someone genuinely wants to improve situation, mend a relationship, or apologize for a mistake, these good-faith attempts at reconciliation should always be taken seriously. Everyone does things that they regret; realizing these actions as aberrant and attempting to change are natural and laudable acts. If a problem cannot be resolved through LS chat or Discord, contact a Venture Captain or Loremaster to help bring about an amiable resolution.
Respect - Each person, player, and character has the same right to act, speak, and think as you do. If a player asks you to do something or change a behavior in a reasonable and respectful way, consider going out of your way to accommodate them. "Get over it" and "have thicker skin" are not acceptable answers to offense being taken.
