Character

Appearance

Isra'ir is tall for a Miqo'te, standing a hair over 5 flums and 8 ilms. His eyes are a vibrant yellow, and are constantly roving over his surroundings when he isn't talking to anyone. His hair and tail are both an ashy grey, but while he keeps his hair meticulously groomed, Isra'ir's tail is shockingly fluffy. Isra'ir is usually dressed in fairly practical or comfortable clothes unless he feels the occasion demands a change. However, nothing parts him from his jewelry.

Behavior

Isra'ir is energetic, affable, and personable. He is quick to make jokes, slow to become visibly angry, and smiles whenever he talks to someone. The years under Descoteaux have also left him fairly well-spoken, though when he's with people he feels comfortable with some of the formality and obtuseness will drop from his speech.

Combat

General

For the most part, Isra'ir tries as hard as he can to avoid combat. If confronted, he'll usually try to talk, bribe, or wheedle his way out of the predicament. When backed into a corner, Isra'ir will employ a mix of rudimentary magic, knives, and specially made metal claws which he keeps on his person at all times.

History/Timeline

Isra'ir was born in 1560 of the Sixth Astral Era to a large family of Keepers of the Moon. As the youngest child, he received more attention than his brothers had, which led to a greater amount of independence, a trait which his mother, Isra Nejem, came to rue. While Isra'ir enjoyed the company of his brothers, his sisters took every opportunity they could find to demean, belittle, or harass their youngest brother, which did not crush Isra'ir's rebelliousness as they had hoped, but only fed the flame. Nonetheless, Isra'ir's childhood was a largely happy and content one, in spite of his sister's best efforts and his mother's Spartan lifestyle which she forced on the rest of her family.

When Dalamud began its fall towards Eorzea, Isra'ir was not horrified or frightened like most of his family, but was instead intrigued by the phenomenon, choosing to sneak out of his home nightly to watch the moon's descent. As Dalamud reached the final stage of its fall and the Battle of Carteneau raged, Isra'ir defied his mother's orders one last time by fleeing the safehouse which his family was hiding in, because he wished to witness the impact himself. As it turned out, this rebellion would save his life, for when Bahamut burst from his cage, one of fragments from Dalamud landed directly on the Nejem's hiding place, killing Isra'ir's entire family.

In the months after the Calamity, the twelve year-old Isra'ir wandered Gridania, resorting to thievery in order to sustain himself. As fate would have it, his illegal actions led him to meet Lord Ludovic Descoteaux, an Elezen who was carving out a criminal empire in Gridania. Descoteaux took Isra'ir into his custody, and gave him regular meals and lodging in return for Isra'ir's talents. This led to five years of training, during which Isra'ir acted at various times as a dancer, mercenary, courier, courtesan, smuggler, and odd-jobs man.

Once he had been trained to serve in any capacity Descoteaux could need, Isra'ir was given some autonomy, and chose to base himself in Limsa Lominsa, where he resides now.

Relationships

Family

Isra'ir was the sixth and final son of an unusually large family of Miqo'te in Gridania. However, after their deaths during the Calamity, Isra'ir was raised by Ludovic Descoteaux, who Isra'ir now views as his foster father.

  • Isra Nejem: Isra was Isra'ir's mother, and the matriarch of a large family in Gridania. Her zealous protectiveness towards her family led her to restrict her children's freedom, which Isra'ir hated, leading to much strife between the two.
  • Isra'ir's Brothers: Isra'ir had a fairly good relationship with his brothers, but scorned their weakness in bowing to their mother's and sisters' demands. Like Isra'ir, his brothers received the full extent of their mother's domineering.
  • Isra'ir's Sisters: Isra'ir's sisters were his bitter rivals since his birth. He resented their freedom and power over him and his brothers, and they in turn were infuriated by his rebellious nature and insouciance.
  • Ludovic Descoteaux: The man who took Isra'ir under his wing after the death of the Nejem family during the Calamity. Despite Ludovic's harsh discipline and irrationally high expectations towards Isra'ir, he is extremely thankful towards his foster father, and has sworn to serve Lord Descoteaux's interests for as long as they both live.

Friends

Isra'ir made few friends while working for Lord Descoteaux, since most of his colleagues were fairly callous, cruel, or stupid. Since gaining a measure of autonomy, though, Isra'ir has been building a small network of new friends.

  • X'aqi Tia: A charming Miqo'te who accompanied Jin'sae the day Isra'ir chanced upon them. X'aqi's curiosity about Isra'ir's work led to them becoming coworkers under Lord Descoteaux.
  • Rinh Miyuun: A friendly Miqo'te who Isra'ir met in the bar with Jin'sae and Cythe.
  • Cythe Sundowner: A taciturn Miqo'te whose strange heritage has caught Isra'ir notice.
  • Nhia Nahri: An energetic Miqo'te whose childlike demeanor has charmed Isra'ir. Her demand for new hats means Isra'ir is constantly on the lookout for new designs from the various haberdashers.
  • Enja Niuhali: A kind Miqo'te who Isra'ir met while on assignment in Ul'dah. Her offer of a job in her friend's bar led Isra'ir to find a more legal and reliable source of income to supplement his work for Lord Descoteaux.
  • Elmo Galette

Enemies

While he wouldn't say that he has any enemies, the enemies of Lord Descoteaux and his organization are also enemies of Isra'ir. However, at this point none have become known to him by name.

Rumors

Common Rumor

  • He is known to often creep around Limsa Lominsa at night, sometimes for purposes unknown, but usually just to see if he can outwit the Yellow Jackets.

Moderate Rumor

  • He has a colored past, and rumor has it that Isra'ir's been an assassin, a mercenary, and a courtesan at various times of his life.

Rare Rumor

  • Lord Descoteaux is known to have a fiercely loyal Miqo'te servant, who has been known to viciously kill or torture on his orders in the past. It is unknown to all if this is Isra'ir or another Miqo'te.
