General Information

A feisty Golmore born Viera when the mood strikes her, hailing from Hingashi recently on her quest to learn about Astromancy and those weapons developed by the "Machinists" in Ishgard. Usually calm and thoughtful on the outside; she likes to know and weigh every possible option and scenario before making a decision, whether it be regarding business, combat or even her love life.

Appearance

Kasumi stands at a more middle height as far as Viera go, at 6'1". She seems to generally prefer more conservative clothing or armor, rather than the more revealing garments her sisters tend to wear about. Function over form and whatnot for this one. Sitting on her face are two bright, mismatched colored eyes; her left being a light amethyst while her right is a bright, icy blue. Two white, angular tribal tattoos sit on her cheeks just below her eyes, as well as several rune-like tattoos adorning her forearms.

Mannerisms

Kasumi usually has a rather calm or even stoic personality, especially around people she's not familiar with. However with people she considers good friends, she's as much a bundle a joy as any one else with that warm, comforting smile of hers. Whenever bored or particularly stressed about something, she can usually be seen shifting through her arcanum cards or even disassembling her rifle for cleaning.

Early Life

Childhood

Her early childhood was fairly typical for a Viera, save that she was born to the matriarch of her village along with only a single sister. Much of her younger days were spent learning to hunt, forage and fight with a polearm. She was an avid learner and skilled hunter in her own right, though she usually had more of an interest in taking care of her fellow sisters returning injured from less than successful hunts, often finding herself shadowing the village's helping out with smaller tasks when able much to her mother's annoyance. Being one of the the only two children born to the matriarch and the one who was showing the most promise, her mother Alys sought to raise her as the next leader of the village. A goal that Kasumi did not share at the time, believing herself unfit to guide her sisters nearly as well as her mother had over the last several decades.

Adolescence

As she grew, she became much more comfortable with her role in the village and the prospect of taking over as matriarch from her mother. She developed into a fierce huntress and guardian of her home, and much more adept with the finer art of medical care as she continued caring for her her injured sisters as they returned from hunts or patrols; namely her blood sister Ysera as the rather thick headed Viera had a knack for not realizing when she was in over her head. Her mother took a more relaxed role when it came to running the village, allowing her daughter to take a more active position in the simpler tasks to ease her into her eventual role. Though Kasumi was more or less content with this, there was an ever growing itch in the back of her mind that she couldn't shake no matter how much she devoted herself to her tasks and her people. A desire for more; for something new and unique. She'd often found herself wondering what lie outside the Wood; what types of people lived there, what types of food they ate and what manner of creatures were available for hunting. Though as much as she yearned to explore the greater world around her, she couldn't bear to leave her family behind. Viera's strict adherence to the Word of the Wood meaning that she'd be unable to ever return should she leave the Wood's borders.

Adulthood

Around her twentieth summer is when disaster struck. Garlemald had been steadily pushing into Dalmascan territory, looking to subjugate the province as they had so many other countries before. This of course meant that they began pushing into Viera territory in Golmore, though this was met with fierce resistance from both the Viera people and the Wood herself. Still, the Garleans pressed on ever eager to bring the whole of Dalmasca under their heel. Kasumi was out on a weekly hunt, stalking her prey through the thick underbrush of the Wood with her sister Ysera when they'd come across a small platoon of Garlean soldiers clad in metal and armed with weapons and magitek the likes of which they'd never seen. Neither of them had come face to face with the Empire before, though they'd heard reports from others coming back from patrols and knew that this wasn't a fight they could win, much less against so many. It didn't take long for the Imperials to spot the two of them, setting off in chase as both Kasumi and Ysera took off in sprint. Though they both knew the Wood much better than the Garleans, their sheer number and speed of their magitek devices left them at a disadvantage. Knowing they couldn't be led back to the village, Kasumi urged her sister hide while she moved to distract the Garleans and lead them in the opposite direction. The ploy worked, the Imperials seemingly forgetting about Ysera as they instead moved after Kasumi. Pleased that her sister would at least be safe, she raced through the Wood for several minutes with Garleans hot on her heel all the while until she were pushed to the edge of the Jungle. Looking back toward her village with the Garleans pushing ever closer, she gave a silent, sorrowful apology before pushing out of the Wood and into Dalmasca where she continued running as far as her legs would carry her. It was a few weeks of hunting, moving and dodging Garlean patrols through Dalmasca before she eventually made it to the Ruby Sea where she found someone willing to ferry her over to Hingashi. Being ignorant of the world as she was, she was awestruck at the architecture and variety of people flowing through the streets of Kugane. Of course, her ignorance meant she had no understanding of the language and not a single Gil to her name. Still, she did what she could do best and made use of her skill as a huntress to catch various game for the locals who were more than happy to pay her for the trouble.

This went on for a few years since leaving Golmore, with working to pick up Hingan the whole time. Once she was fluent enough to hold a conversation, she moved from hunting to working in Kugane's hospitals as an assistant, eventually making enough Gil to afford a small apartment in Shirogane. She stayed in Hingashi for roughly ten years until the call for new experiences beckoned to her once more. Hearing about something called "Astrology" in the far Western shores of Eorzea, she set out across the oceans to learn what she could about this unique school of magic.

---The Unsung Verse---

Kasumi and her group found themselves accepting a job not assigned to them in Ishgard involving a foreign celestial object seen traversing the six heavenly constellations. As they would soon find out, this was far from a simple escort mission so the Astrologians could observe the object, as it was discovered that the Garleans were interested in it as well. During one such observation after an encounter with an Imperial patrol, it was discovered that the "object" was in fact an ancient dragon from long before the Dragonsong war, the sight of which awakened the Echo in Rasheke. Confused, the group turned back to Ishgard to collect themselves and prepare for whatever came next. Over the next few weeks, the situation only seemed to grow more dire. It became evident that someone among either the Astrologians or Dragoons was feeding information to the Garleans, and that the Garleans themselves wanted control of this dragon. During an encounter in Coerthas with an Imperial Centurion, it was discovered that the Empire had stolen the last remaining egg from this "celestial dragon", and had begun cloning it on Azys Lla for use in an artificial army in an effort to embroil Ishgard in a renewed Dragonsong war and keep them out of the alliance. Heading to Azys Lla in an attempt to stop the Imperials, the group came face to face with the Dragoon that had been supplying information, who revealed to be hiding a mound of crystals which he used to summon the dragon into himself, becoming the primal known as Eterna. They were able to defeat the primal thanks to Rasheke's Echo protecting them, though Kasumi was left in a coma for nearly a week after deflecting a devastating blow from Eterna. The remaining dragon clones were dispatched, and the final verse of the Dragonsong war was over.

Recent Times

The group was commissioned by a research group headed by a friend of Aleah's named Hewald, before the events in Ishgard. They were tasked with gaining access to and securing the entrance to an ancient temple believed to be from the third Astral era, as well as recovering a researcher who had gone missing prior to their arrival. After gaining entry and finding the missing Lalafell, the group decided to depart for the time to allow the researchers to work, awaiting for word before continuing further into the ruins. After the events in Ishagrd, they were asked to return to the temple as progress had been made in opening the lower chambers. Splitting into two, Aleah, Mydia, Daxi and Rasheke who was gifted with the echo, descended into the ruins together where it was discovered there was at least one ancient Viera had lived in this temple, along with some form of winged serpent. Delving deeper, the four discovered a number of murals which prompted Rasheke's echo, giving him insight on the Viera that had come here in the past and showing that she had been protected by this serpent, when the natives of these ruins had met her with steel. The Viera, natives and these serpents eventually forged a connection with each other and living in a sort of harmony. Breaking through the end of the temple, they came across a large grove filled with ancient ruins of this 'civilization'. Mydia and Aleah continued forward, eventually coming face to face with the skeletal remains of one of the serpents, wrapped around a large egg encased in vines. Mydia stepped forward and placed to hand to the serpent's skull, resulting in the waking of an avatar of sorts of the deceased creature. It spoke of how Mydia was similar to the Viera it had protected and bonded with so long ago, each of them searching for a place of belonging; a place to call home. The serpent asked her to take the last of its kind with her, and to care for it as he had the Viera so long before. Accepting; the egg began to wiggle and hatch, giving rise to a winged serpent a fair bit larger than Mydia is tall, who she nicknamed 'Wings'. Since leaving the ruins, the two have been inseparable since.

  • Saikhan Gesi

A Xaela who's temper is about as short as her height, and probably the biggest dumbass Kasumi has ever met. Though her temper, innocent ignorance and fiery spirit definitely has a charm to it that reminds Kasumi of some of her sisters back in Golmore. She'd quickly grown close to Saikhan, even going as far to unofficially adopt her as a sister. She may tease the Xaela relentlessly and is constantly fed up with her antics, but she's still family despite it all. Any attempt to genuinely harm Saikhan is to forfeit your life, as far as Kasumi is concerned.

  • Rasheke Arkwright

Actual asshole. Easily the most infuriating man Kasumi had ever met. At this point she's convinced that someone may have cursed her to have met him, though he does have a charm to him. While his constant jabs and teases are beyond annoying, they're also immensely entertaining and provide an enjoyable back and forth for the pair. Life without his constant yapping in her ears would admittedly be rather boring at this point. The man is certainly a bit of an enigma, and she looks forward to figuring him out.

  • Waylon Haust

The first person Kasumi had really met since arriving in Ul'dah. He was certainly easy and fun to tease, and his acquaintance paved the way to meeting the others she considers friends. Kind of dense and a bit of a wimp sometimes, she knows that he can always be counted on when something's bothering her or shit's about to hit the fan.

  • Aleah Miara

Bubbly, excitable, caring, squishy, lovable, naive, a beacon of light in the coming dark. There are many words and phrases that can be used to describe Aleah, though none of them can truly capture what this hyper-cuddly goofball has come to mean to Kasumi. After saving her life three times, the duo thought to take some time and get to know each other, only to discover that each one found themselves much too infatuated in the other to push them out of their minds. Aleah's a spark of joy, strength and fun in Kasumi's comparatively much more tame lifestyle, often dragging the Viera into all sorts places and activities, when she finds the time to stop trying to cuddle her into the afterlife.

Friends Acquaintances
  • Jin-su Saka

A blonde haired Doman woman with mismatched eyes. She was appreciative toward Kasumi for saving her life, though Jin's involvement in a recent problem with Thanis left the Doman in a somewhat unfavorable view to the Viera.

  • Kaoru Nakatomi

A usually cold and to the point shinobi, this Doman born Raen is a bundle of mystery that Kasumi's keen to figure out. Understandably guarded, cold and blunt but hiding an aura of playful mischief. She's definitely interesting to be around, but it's not really certain what her true thoughts are for some things, specifically Kasumi. Sometimes it seems as though she's the center of attention with a constant teasing back and forth, other times it feels as if she couldn't care less of Kasumi suddenly dropped dead at her feet. She's a conundrum to be sure, but she'll be figured out eventually. At least she's cute.

  • Joral Jorenthium

These two didn't really have the greatest of introductions, with Joral having just shot Kasumi's adoptive sister Saikhan. That said, Joral has proven to be an invaluable help in recent times, and someone she can rely on if shit hits the fan. He's a bit of a mystery as well, rather guarded about his past when it comes to his understanding of magitek. She's not really one to press the issue now however, given he was invaluable to helping save Ysera and she's not too comfortable with him yet to make a habit of asking personal questions. He is cute though, and painfully easy to tease much to Kasumi's delight.

  • Thanis Bielau

Swordsman and de-facto "leader" of the little troupe Kasumi found herself in. Originally someone she considered a friend; a recent incident involving a Doman woman dropped her view of the man significantly, now merely indifferent to his existence for the time being.

  • Vera Yehbta

Ah, Vera. The one that got away, you could say. Vera was someone Kasumi had given her heart to; not something she does often, or ever in fact. Vera had been the first person in Kasumi's life that she'd really connected with; even going as far as considering her a mate. She couldn't imagine life without her, until she lied. She took all the sacrifices Kasumi had made during their relationship and spat them back in her face, lying behind her teeth about her true intentions and shattering the Viera's heart. She'll move on of course, but only time will tell how she'll come out of it.

  • Abarbyrm Wintbrotsyn

Not... really sure what to think of this one. Rasheke randomly pulled him in with their little excursion to Golmore without telling her, so he was just sort of there. They didn't really talk much other than a few words in her village, so she's not really sure what to think of him. Though he did help, she supposes?

RP Hooks

  • Traveling Healer and Diviner

A lot of her early time in Eorzea, and nearly a decade in Kugane was spent as a healer in triage roles. A lot of time in Kugane was spent assisting critical patients in hospitals, while her time in Eorzea was spent helping wandering adventurers, wounded soldiers and guards in city-states, and various other such roles. During much of her travels, she'd also give out free divinations to those who wished it, in an effort to better practice Astrology. If you've spent time in Kugane sometime in the passed 20 years or any of the city-states of Eorzea in the passed 2-3, it's likely you've seen her around helping others.

  • Primal Slayer?
If you're a character associated with the Temple Knights or one of the large high houses, you may have heard whispers of something big that happened in Coerthas, or maybe even Azys Lla if your character really gets around. Something involving Garleans, dragons, and... a primal?
  • An ancient friend
If you see her walking around with the wind-up Leviathan, that's the ancient winged serpent mentioned in my history tab and showcased on her image.

  • ERP. While I'm fine with dark and mature RP, it is unlikely I will erp with anyone and I certainly will not erp with random people.
  • Male Viera. This is a personal grievance of mine, but because of how the lore is established, I generally refuse to acknowledge people playing male Viera unless they have an exceptionally good reason for them being outside of Golmore. Because of Viera culture, it is exceedingly unlikely for males to leave the Wood. Hell, half of them don't even survive becoming a Wood-Warder in the first place. I won't bash you for playing what you like, but be aware I'm unlikely to interact if this is the case. EDIT: Yes, I know that male Viera are coming in 6.0. No, I am not happy about it. If you're playing a male Viera and decide to RP with me, please understand that I personally need a good reason they left the Wood, or were born outside of it or whatever. This doesn't have to come up front mind you! BUT if it's later determined that your Viera left Golmore for something more or less akin to: "Oh I didn't like being home so I decided to up and walk out one day." I am likely going to drop you. Viera lore is fairly cut and dry, and females are rare enough outside the jungle as it is. Most females IN the jungle don't even see a male, so the likelihood of one just suddenly deciding to "walk out" one day is exceptionally small.
