Appearance & Personality
Pyha'to is a young man who has seen more than someone his age should have. Though he maintains a normally calm and easy-going demeanor, it isn't hard to tell that his gaze his haunted by memories of his past. Neither tall nor short, he stands as an average example of his species, and his athletic build hints at someone who spends much of his time on the practice field. He walks with precision and confidence, though without any sign of arrogance.
Biography
Pyha'to and his sister, Sumari, were both born and raised in the secret underground enclave of the Dusk Dancers. The Dusk Dancers was a group of rogues that operated independently of any of the larger thieves guilds based out of the three major Eorzean city-states. Their existence was tolerated due to their altruistic nature – their mission was to help anyone who came to them with problems which were too complicated to be handled by members of any local authorities.
Their mother and father had an open relationship with each other. When Pyha'to and Sumari were just babies, they were introduced to their half-sister, L'anya Kharja, who was the result of their father falling for a Seeker woman who was part of a more traditional Seeker tribe. L'tarra Khoran had to keep her visits to their group a secret, and her daughter was named in a traditional Seeker fashion, as she had to maintain the ruse that the baby's father was L'kharja Nunh, a man with influence within her tribe. Though visits were less than frequent, Pyha'to and Sumari accepted L'anya as their sibling and, as they grew older, the three played together whenever L'tarra brought little L'anya to visit.
The caverns their group inhabited were located within the Shroud. They were an expansive network of tunnels, and were crisscrossed with underground streams and waterfalls. For two young children, these proved irresistible to explore. Pyha'to and Sumari (along with any of the other Dusk Dancer children who wished to tag along, or L'anya if she was currently visiting) had their own series of adventures within those tunnels – they held off hordes of monsters, saved countless princesses (and princes, at Sumari's insistence), their adventure limited only by the scope of their imaginations.
When he was old enough, Pyha'to began learning skills which would be useful to the group. He spent much time in the outdoors with the group's hunters and trackers. He loved the outdoors, loved the wilderness. He learned how to read signs from sets of tracks, how to stalk prey, and how to set up useful traps. Once he was big enough to wield a weapon, he found himself gravitating towards the longspear as his weapon of choice, though he also received training in a number of different weapons, and was also trained in a variety of unarmed fighting techniques.
L'anya often watched him train, though her mother was reluctant to let her join in. Pyha'to argued that she should learn how to defend herself. With L'tarra watching, he showed L'anya the basics. He was only a novice himself, but L'tarra quickly realized how valuable such instruction was. She asked if Pyha'to could convince his father to teach her daughter as well. Hanji'a had been reluctant to provide training, since he didn't want to endanger L'anya if L'kharja Nunh discovered her skills and found out where she had learned them. However, in the end Pyha'to convinced his father that L'anya would only be safer if she knew how to fight, and soon L'anya started practicing with the group's young trainees whenever she came to visit.
In the end, L'kharja Nunh eventually did discover the true origins of his “daughter”. While L'anya mostly appeared to be a Seeker, there were hints at her half-breed heritage. L'kharja had spies watching L'tarra and despite her caution, her meetings with the Dusk Dancers were discovered. L'kharja was out for revenge. For years he had been made to look like a fool. He hired a band of assassins and, accompanying them to the Dusk Dancer enclave, he began murdering any that he believed were implicit in this deception. They swept through the caverns, murdering men and women alike, slaughtering children.
Hanji'a and Pyha were each slain by the vindictive nunh, though not before urging their children to flee. They stole through the caverns, hounded by L'kharja and his assassins. Just before they reached the surface, it became obvious that they were going to be overtaken. Pyha'to urged Sumari and L'anya onwards, then turned to buy them some time.
Sumari turned to stay but, when she saw L'anya do the same, she was left with little choice but to flee with her younger sister. Pyha'to fought bravely and, while he possessed a fierce warrior spirit, he was still just a novice and no match for a band of trained assassins. Still, he was able to occupy them long enough while his sisters slipped away.
During the fight, Pyha'to was knocked off a rickety wooden bridge that spanned a gap in the canyon. He was knocked unconscious and left for dead by the assassins. When he finally awoke, he was being cared for by Sumari. It was then that she told him the sad truth – though she'd done her best to keep L'anya safe, they had gotten separated in the forest. By the time she'd managed to evade her own pursuers and had gone back to search for her sister, she came across L'kharja Nunh. He was bleeding, mortally wounded. When she had confronted him, he held up his bloody weapon and sneered. L'anya was dead. Sumari was about to attack, to end the man's life, when she heard the assassins closing in once again. She had no choice but to turn and flee. At least L'kharja was in no condition to go after her.
Sumari helped Pyha'to out of the chasm. While Pyha'to wanted to go back and bury the bodies, Sumari reasoned that they couldn't return so soon after the attack – it would surely be under some sort of watch. The pair left their home behind and traveled to the nearby city-state of Gridania.
After he had recovered, Pyha'to became obsessed with revenge. He strove constantly to better himself, working on his skills and honing his abilities. To earn enough coin to get by, both he and his sister became bounty hunters – tracking down escaped criminals and wanted targets, and returning them to whomever was funding the contract. This line of work enabled him to create a network of informants, which he has steadily been using to gather information on L'kharja Nunh and his allies.
Developments
- ● Has recently learned through his contacts that his half-sister, L'anya, may still be alive.
- ● Pyha'to and his sister followed the movements of L'kharja's men, and recently discovered them converging on an area in Mist. Pyha'to found L'anya there but, when he confronted her, she fled -- likely assuming that he was working with some form of local law enforcement. He tailed her to the company headquarters of the Light Crusaders, and arrived just in time for L'kharja's men to ambush L'anya. Pyha'to and several of the Light Crusader members rushed to her aid, but were unable to prevent them from abducting her.
- ● The culmination of many months of effort and planning enabled Pye and his allies to track down where L'kharja had taken L'anya. In the time since Pyha'to had known L'kharja, the man had grown in power and influence. He was now a high ranking cultist, working for a primal cult known as the Eyes of Zzahg'ghazz -- a group who intend to summon their insect god, the 'Singing Lord of Shadows' to Eorzea. They were based in a volcano lair about a day's travel by airship off the coast of Limsa Lominsa. Pye and his allies infiltrated the stronghold via a special aetheryte they'd gained access to, while a fleet sent by the Maelstrom engaged the cultists in a frontal assault. They managed to find L'anya, who had been brainwashed and turned into a magitek-augmented assassin, and subdued her. They fought against L'kharja as well, but before they could land the killing blow, he managed to escape.
