Biography

Childhood

Born Io Hanwell, Flick was the youngest of her parent's several daughters. Her father, Va'to Hanwell, was a ruthless business man who established a successful trading company when he was a young man. Her mother, Noe, was not only his assistant but his oldest friend. Va'to was well known as being a cold person; not even being very affectionate towards the person he loved most, Noe. When she was a baby it was discovered that her skin burned in the sunlight. After that, Va'to dedicated his time and money to finding a way to cure his youngest daughter. He became very close to Flick, spending most of his time at home with her and bringing her gifts from his travels while almost completely ignoring all of his other children. Va'to hired the best tutors to make sure Flick and his other daughters were well educated in academics and arts but Flick still recognized at an early age that her father payed special attention to her.

Va'to made sure all the windows in the house couldn't be opened and forbid Flick from leaving no matter what time of day. This was a rule her and her older sister, Elara, would ignore often. Elara was the second youngest, just months older than Flick. The two would often play in the woods by their house in the middle of the night. One night when Flick was 9, Elara slipped while playing near a pool of water and hit her head on a rock. Flick tried to get help but had to seek shelter under a near by rock because the sun had started to rise. It took hours for Va'to to find them; Elara floating in the water, lifeless and Flick crying near by in a small patch of shade. After that, Flick was completely forbidden from going outside and Va'to payed special care to enforce this rule. More upset by the toll that Elara's lose took on Flick, Va'to dedicated every bit of his time to her. Unable to deal with being in the dark and dreary house, Noe left on an 'extended business trip'. She took over most of the responsibilities of the company and didn't return for years.

When Noe finally returned to the house, Flick was 15. Noe wasn't home for more than a month before she noticed that Va'to had come to resent her and had become much closer to Flick than he was when she'd left. The difference in his personality when dealing with Flick and his personality when dealing with anyone else had become so vast that it had become frightening even to Flick. Her father was always warm and kind to her but would snap at anyone who interrupted any interaction they were having. Flick confided in her mother that she wanted so much more from life then what she could get from inside that house. She told her mother that one of her oldest sisters, Ley, was planning to leave to become an adventurer and that she wished to go too. Noe warned Flick of how her father might react but she also told her that she supported the idea. Ley and Flick ran away shortly after.

Teenage

Ley went off to learn at the arcanist guild in Limsa Lominsa. Flick went to Ul'dah, settling in a slum. She worked at a seedy tavern in the basement of a building, waiting tables as 'Star Flicker' and befriending the adventurers that came through. Most of them knew her sister and looked after her while they were in town as a courtesy to Ley when she was out of town. She dreamed of going to Limsa Lominsa and studying at the arcanist's guild just as her sister was. During her time there, Flick befriended a mercenary name Soleil. Soleil saw Flick as a younger sibling of sorts and went out of his way to look after her. One night, he brought a friend of his to the tavern, a 19 year old Gen Quickpaw. Flick and Gen met there for the first time. Gen saved her from a would be attacker but caused a scene. Angry, Flick slapped him and the two were angry about each other for the next few weeks before forgetting the encounter. Soleil stayed friends with Flick until she left Ul'dah. After the calamity, Ley went missing and Flick was devastated at the thought that Ley might be gone forever. This was when Soleil and Flick's slow growing romance turned into a relationship. It was short lived. After a few months, Soleil told her that he needed her. She left him in the middle of the night while he slept. She packed her things and left Ul'dah, never to return. This was just before her 18th birthday. She went to the arcanist's guild to start studying magic. She would find out not long after that Ley was still alive but the two wouldn't find each other again for a while after that.

Adult

Finishing her studies at the arcanist's guild, Flick sought out powerful mages in the hopes of learning from them. Her goal is to find a way to fix her affliction in the hopes that, with no reason for her father to force her to stay home, she will be able to go home without fear of being confined there. So she traveled to the Light Crusaders Free Company in Mist in hopes that the company leader would take her as an apprentice. Her sister followed her to the Free Company where they are both now members. Flick made many friends at the Free Company she has started to call home. She had started to become emotionally involved with a Highlander named Breeze Darrus when she met Gen again. She ended up leaving Breeze to pursue a romantic relationship with Gen. After being together for a bit, Gen and Flick were expecting their first child when an accident cause Flick to miscarry. The details of why this happened aren't well known but the two have not been doing well since.

After a miscarriage, Flick fell into a depression causing her emotional harm and causing her to neglect her own basic human needs. She tried to push her way through it but only found herself feeling worse. When things were seemingly getting better and Gen and Flick had agreed to be exclusive with each other, she started having an affair though she would later learn she wasn't the only one.

Present

Flick has since gotten pregnant and had her child, a boy they call Shio. Though it's been an emotional roller coaster with Yorric leaving without a word and Gen's depression over Tikka's kidnapping, it seems as though Flick is yet again dipping down into a depression. After nearly being killed while rescuing Tikka, Flick learned that her mother had died. With this and what happened during the rescue, she's been starting to wonder if it wouldn't do everyone better for her to just give up and go home.

RELATIONS

Romantic Interest Sexual Interest Platonic Love Good Standing Neutral Standing Poor Standing

Gen Quickpaw: Gen was just a one night stand until he fell in love with Flick. A combination of luck and timing caused the two to run into each other often afterwards and to spend a lot of time together. That on top of his persistence made him really grow on her. He was the first man to be interested in her as more than just a prize to be won or a trophy to be displayed. She loves him more than any other person she's ever cared about. Despite how madly in love with him she is, it hasn't been enough to keep her from her old habits, especially when she's been so insecure about his feelings for her. Though she's decided to devote herself to her child and to Gen, with recent developments, she's been wondering what it's all for and if maybe it wouldn't do her good to let go.

Arianne Sorren: One of Flick and Gen's good friends, Flick considers Ari one of her closest friends.

Maryel Shadowstalker: Another one of Flick's friends from the Free Company, Flick regards Maryel as her sister. Flick has been known to go to great lengths to ensure Maryel's safety and well being.

Kalan'val Baenre: A feral mute Flick befriended through the Free Company. Flick regards him as the brother she never had. Although the two haven't spent a lot of time together lately, the two are incredibly close. Flick even learned sign language to better communicate with him.

Yorric Lesh: Initially, Flick was resentful when she found out the man she considered her friend had feelings for her but lately she's found herself turning to him when her and Gen fight. Now she only resents herself for breaking her promise to Gen and falling back into her old habits whenever she finds herself in Yorric's bed.

J'ryu Nunh: A healer from the free company, Ryu and Flick bonded over their interest in magic. She considers him just a friend although she's unclear on his feelings towards her.

Breeze Darrus: Having moved on from the negetive feelings that were brought up when Flick left Breeze for Gen, the two are now on good terms. It took time to work out their feelings but the two have moved on. Regardless, Breeze will always have a special place in Flick's heart.

Tikka Swift: Flick and Tikka's relationship is complicated to say the least. Although Flick still has negative feelings about Tikka's relationship with Gen, she's gotten to a point where she can be neutral, if not even okay with Tikka as a person.
