APPEARANCE Akay'a is tall for a miqo'te at 5 fulms 9 ilms, with lean wiry muscles that hint at endurance and stamina instead of raw strength. His skin is unusually pale, even for a Keeper, though set against his equally pale hair and grey eyes, it doesn't look as odd as it might on one of his darker haired brethren. His body is scarless, without a birthmark or freckle to mare his pale skin. His hair and fur are neatly kept, though often disheveled if he has been spending time in his infirmary - medicine and concoctions take precedence over personal care. His clothes are of good make, but worn, as if he wears something until it is no longer usable. He tends to prefer dark colors - blood doesn't show up as easily on them. PERSONALITY Restrained. Irritable. Helpful. Akay'a is an easy cat to figure out, though not an easy cat to get close to. He is often closed off about personal matters, including feelings, and simple conversations often go nowhere with him. More often than not he uses few words, but is perfectly willing to let others do the talking. Despite his cold demeanor, Akay'a believes in the inherent good in everyone and is always willing to give a second, third, and forth chance. He spends much of his time helping others, even if it is at the determent of himself - literally giving away the food off his plate, the coin from his pocket, and the clothes from his back. It has landed him in trouble more than once, but he has also seen great personal reward in the form of tearful smiles and thanks. He would rather travel the lands and heal those who can't afford it at no cost to them than ensure his own comfort. Despite this and his views that others should be helped, he is surprisingly comfortable with morally grey. Akay'a is slow to truly anger, but quick to irritate. Training has taught him to hide his feelings behind smiles, with only the occasional twitch of a finger or tail giving him away. He believes in keeping a professional attitude at all times, and refuses to allow his feelings to interfere with his work. No matter his personal feelings, his patients are always safe when under his care. LIKES Medicine Akay'a has a hunger to learn when it comes to the healing arts, whether its through alchemy, battlefield medic training, or conjury. BACKSTORY Akay'a grew up in a secluded, xenophobic tribe. Unlike normal, nomadic family-group oriented Keepers, this tribe was structured more like their Seeker cousins. They were lead by a group of elected females who ruled for life, and it was only these females who were permitted to mate. Males, already a rare occurrence in normal Miqo'te families, were even rarer in the Silver Moon Tribe, and Akay'a, with his sought after pale skin, hair, and eyes was celebrated. Instead of the tom-cat nature found in the males of other Keepers, Silver Moon men were given to a mate chosen to them by the leaders, often the leaders themselves. Akay'a grew up treated as close to nobility as the Silver Moon's had, an almost-ideal male from a strong bloodline - His mother was both a Leader and a healer, and his father one of the best huntsman the tribe had to offer. He learned that the leading females' words were law, but that he only had to ask for something and it would be given to him. That kind of mindset can screw with a kids perception of the world. Despite this and the learned sense of superiority he acquired from it, Akay'a was still treated like a child. He hunted with the other children, learned to read and make medicine from his mother. His favorite activity was sitting at his elder sister's feet while she spun and sewed. He became quite adept at carding and spinning wool, cotton, and other fibers himself and found that working with his hands soothed him. When he was twelve his mother and father, Akay and Niku'to, were traveling to gather rare herbs for his mother's medicines when they came across a young Seeker girl, no more than eight years old. She was starving, half dead from the sun, abandoned for some reason she couldn't recall. Despite Niku'to's warnings, Akay brought the girl back to the tribe and nursed her back to health. A formal meeting with the tribe Elders ended in a decision for Akay: take the girl back to where she found her and leave her there, or leave the tribe permanently. Akay, angry with their decision to let the girl die, spoke in heated words that she would leave and take her mate with her. Niku'to and their children were allowed to stay, under the circumstance that they remove contact with Akay and Niku'to would be assigned a new mate. Despite the arranged marriage, Niku'to had fallen in love with Akay and made the decision to leave with her. Niyha, Akay'a's elder sister, also decided to leave, having long ago found the tribe and its ways suffocating. The tribe Leaders encourage Akay'a to stay, appeasing and bribing the young boy, but his head was filled with tales of adventure. ( ✔ ) Akay'a’s Thoughts: "She is a great woman, a great healer, and a good mother. I haven't seen her in years." Akay was once one of the top leaders of the Silver Moon Tribe until she stepped down, choosing to leave leadership to the next generation. She believed in stern but fair rules when it came to child rearing. She was limited to three children, and not by choice. After stepping down from her leadership role, she took up the role of the healer for a small offshoot of the tribe. After Akay led her family and her newly adopted daughter into exile is when Akaya's healing training truly started. Niku'to, father. (✔) Akay'a's Thoughts: "I've always admired my father, and he never held my faults against me." Niku'to was one of the lead hunters in the Silver Moon Tribe, skilled with the bow, tracking, and slinking through shadows. Unfortunately, Akay'a never picked up these traits. Niku'to adored his wife and did his duty to his children. He followed his wife into exile without thought, even though the Tribe Elders tried to convince him to stay. Niyha Zhwan, sibling. ( ✔ ) Akay'a’s Thoughts: ”Niyha is the one in my family that I was closest too. Out of everyone, shes the one I miss the most.” Niyha is Akay'a's older sister. She was often the one who spent time raising Akay'a while their parents were busy. Nihku Zhwan, sibling. ( ● ❖? ) Akay'a’s Thoughts: ”Nihku and I weren't close. She had better things to do.” Nihku is Akay'a's younger sister. From the moment she could talk, she was obsessed with becoming a Sister of the Tribe - one of their leaders. She spent most of her time studying rather than playing. She and her brother were never close, and when her family left she opted to stay with the tribe. | Taka Raha , sibling. Akay'a isn't fond of the dark skinned miqo'te and would choose to let him die if it wasn't his job to do otherwise. Akay'a sees Lathu'a as the reason he can't leave the Vipers. Klarimel Surtsthalsyn, ( ♥ ✔ ) Akay'a’s Thoughts: "Klarimel is rough around the edges - and rough on the inside too - but theres something about her..." Akay'a met Klarimel through the trading company - he was actually the one to meet her and welcome her into it. Klarimel takes great joy in torturing and bothering the miqo'te, and has gone so far as to put a cursed collar on him that cannot be removed. Recently, Akay'a has come to accept his feelings for Klarimel and she is as close as he has to a mate. Jaliqai Qulaan, Red. ( ✔ $ ) Akay'a’s Thoughts: "Oddly trusting of someone who is trying to drug her. I like her." Jali is a recent addition to Akay'a's life.
