At a superficial level, Nicholas appears to be a midlander hyur with an accent of mixed origin, making it difficult to pinpoint the region he hails from. Grumpy, nosy, and reserved, the doctor can be obnoxious at times, while, begrudgingly to some, being a true master at his medicinal profession. He neither brags nor boasts of his achievements, and reveals little of himself. He lives a quiet life with his three cats in Ul’dah with his medical practice set up that keeps him busy, and when it doesn’t, he travels; to where, it is unknown. He just cannot hold himself in one place for far too long, but no matter what, he can nearly always be found lounging somewhere enjoying pungent pipeweed and tobacco.

The most noticeable feature is likely the man’s age. Nicholas is past the years of supple, smooth skin and richly coloured hair. Shoulder-length hair has started transitioning from a muddy brown to a lighter colour, peppered with greys to accompany those that have also taken residence in his scruffy beard. He appears somewhat unkempt, which owns to a carefree look at times, if it were not for worn, icy eyes affixed above tired bags and behind half-moon spectacles. Both ears have piercings in them, which he changes the jewelry day-to-day to add a flair of eccentrism.

Moving away from the minute details, he is on the taller side of the spectrum as midlander men go, and below any clothing or garb he has, there is bits of toned muscle. He has aged well. Besides stabwounds that allude to a troubled past, one would assume he’s healthy and he stays regularly active. However, rarely any colleagues or peers will see these things, namely because he is hardly found in revealing clothing, and due to his closed off nature.

Another piece about him that is well hidden is his right arm. The long sleeves and gloves of his robes and professional attire hide a magitek arm and hand. It has replaced much of his forearm, sparing only a small space before meeting the crook of his elbow. Underneath, whenever it moves, it clicks and hums a bit, the only hint that others will receive of its nature.

Wherever the doctor goes, the smell of pipeweed, incense, and clean linens follow him. Usually, it is the telltale sign to his colleagues that he has been around somewhere. Some have described it as unbearably pungent, while those who actually enjoy it will call it earthy and wholesome.

Known to some, he has done research using glamours. For how long, no one is for sure. Known disguises that he has used have been both Keepers of the Moon and Seeker of the Sun miqo’tes, usually chalked up as a way to get an insider view of clan life among them.

Ironically, Nicholas tends to be ridiculously concerned and nosy towards other people’s personal lives, but when questions turn to him, he is typically dismissive, vague, or purposefully misleading. He’s described also as obnoxious because he enjoys mashing on weaknesses and nerve-points to see how far he can push people, then he gets grumpy back at them to point all the blame on their faults and impatience. Most people brush this off because of his age, claiming that due to his advanced years, Nick may feel that the world owes him something.

There is more nuance below this guise. Nicholas genuinely enjoys seeing what makes individuals tick. Those that stay as his colleague, and even rarer, a friend, will find that he’s a loyal person if you continue to remain useful. Those cases are few and far inbetween because he keeps others at an arm’s length and has put up massive walls to scale.

Though he will not admit such, he enjoys watching young scholars grow in their pursuits, and may have enough of a soft spot in his heart to help them in their pursuits if asked. He also enjoys teaching, but he will not take students if they’re looking learn for reasons he deems ‘wrong’ or intend to slack off.

Nicholas will try to avoid conflict if possible. If he is thrown into it, or made to participate, he reveals an absurd magical prowess. Having studied many ways to manipulate his aether, he is a lethal opponent. In Sharlayan, he is considered a master arcanist, and an adept healer and thaumaturge. He is careful in revealing and wielding his powers, only using magic if the need is absolutely necessary and the conflict or situation cannot be resolved in any other way. In the manner of picking students, Nicholas tends to be meticulous in selecting them. Only those who not only show potential, but understand that they must wield their abilities discretely and with caution, are selected to learn from him.

What is little known is his masterful use of the lost Allag practice of summoning the essences of primals. He hides these potent abilities under the guise of being a simple doctor and only chooses to use them if the situation proves dire or calls for it.

Nicholas recently returned once again from Sharlayan. He joined a magus society, as well as a mercenary free company, and intends to pay off his debts to Ul'dah and the Flames. Upon meeting another dedicated healer and medic in her clinic, Nicholas has agreed to help Maril Hawker in her endeavor to create a healer linkshell for not only doctors, but patients as well.

Aside from work, he's studying more physical combat methods using swords, knives, and hand-to-hand to expand his horizon and learn something new. His daily routine now contains working out to become more fit, despite his apparent age.

Frequently, they sit together and smoke. Nick has taken to show her Limsa Lominsa and one of his more favoured areas of La Noscea. She identified that he's very hot-and-cold, his treatment of people totally depending on his mood and if they're useful to him. They have assumed being in a very casual relationship. ● Maril Hawker – Nick met this woman after barging into her Ul'dahn clinic out of sheer curiosity. Even after the first meeting, he thinks she knows her stuff in the medical field, even if he looks down his nose at her for being a conjurer. She provided him with a link pearl to join a coalition of healers, doctors, and patients, which he is waiting to see if it will meet its potential. After a long conversation, enjoying his time with the woman, Nick is starting to consider her a potential friend and wishes to expand her tastes in finer wines. He tends to respect Maril the more and more he gets to know her, and he enjoys her company quite a bit to the point where he is pursuing it outside of work. ● Aya Avernus 💗 – A thuamaturge that Nick met at one of his Order's headquarters. He enjoys flirting with the woman and likes her company. More recently, Aya showed up at his new apartment in the Mists and visited him. Nicholas then invited her on an excavation he planned to host with the notion that she would provide a great amount of assistance. She seems to be tolerating him more. ● Enla Kertuh – At last, his relationship with the woman has met its end. A chapter has closed on their life together. Nick still regards her well, and wishes that she regains her sight, often still thinking about her day-to-day. Without hesitation, he'd still willingly help her if she came to him needing assistance. Acquaintances ● Solid Sequoia – Someone who frequented Nick's more shady life many years back, he ran into her after being told to go to her free company house for work. She recognized him and his admissions on his background check and seemed to warm up on his activity with them. Nick is glad there is another person around that also has greying hair. ● Camille Everardi – A former colleague of Nick's. He used to answer to her, and he considered himself in good standing, if not a little grumpy and at times, vexing to her. He approves her disposition towards learning. Enemies & Rivals ● Hiina Kurasaki – Kurame's sister, Nick has a not so great reputation with her because he's an asshole and he's not afraid of be that guy. Nick has a bad standing with some Brass Blades which developed over many years.
