Keepers of the Moon originated in Gridania and, in past times, lived in various caves and subterranean dwellings. For a long time, they and the Gridanian's didn't get along. In time, they made peace and many Keeper clans have assimilated into Gridanian culture, one of those clans being the Tayuun clan. Though her clan originated in Gridania, Arin considers herself to be a citizen of Ul'dah following her path in Thaumaturgy.

Appearance

Arin stands at 5 fulms and 3 ilms, fairly average in comparison to most of the other Miqo’te she knows. Upon first glance, despite the long mage dresses with all hunting gear left in place on her belt or her back, it is easy to see that she is of a slender build. Her grey toned skin seems to be flawless for the most part. The only marring is just over her left eye, a scar that drags from her forehead down over her cheek. Like most Miqo’te, Arin has signature facial markings.

Her left eye is full and bright with life, colored with a soft grey-blue. Her right eye, however, is typically covered by a patch to hide the dulled and more greyed overtone. This was the result of recent events in her life. Her ice blue hair carries tones of purple with the darker shades more prominent towards the ends of her hair, hair pulled up high in a ponytail with prominent bangs. Arin’s bangs are cut to fall just above her eyes to hide the upper portion of the scar.

Personality

Arin has always been an organized person with her own system to better fit her needs of object placement and organizational structure. This flow often follows into her grammatical need for proper sentences and pronunciation. Being the bookworm that she's always been, her words can often seem manuscript or predetermined even though that is not the case.

In the business setting, the young Keeper is set. With her preset organizational structure and will to work as a team effort, she welcomes advice and ideas with the exception that the idea is to be discussed and critiqued until everyone comes to a firm agreement. She has neither an inferiority nor superiority complex that could hinder the productivity of her and her co-workers jobs. This mindset, however, doesn’t continue in the more stressful events. When faced with a predicament, Arin is most comfortable being a follower. In extreme cases, she can potentially override that personality trait to make quick decisions and direct a group of people as needed for efficiency and need for survival.

In the first moments of meeting on a more interpersonal level, she can be quite shy and withdrawn. More often than not, people will find her on the listening side of things rather than talking but, as time goes and she begins to get to know who she’s with, Arin will come around and begin to open up. She prefers to inquire about the person conversing with her rather than speak of herself. When she can relate to a situation, however, she's more than happy to exchange the information. With social anxiety plaguing her mind, Arin might seem to be fragile or meek, as if she feels inferior to those she is attempting to build a friendship with. She attempts to cover most of her anxious ticks by keeping her hands busy or playing them off with a soft hum until she can speak easily without too many pauses in between that she feels would obstruct from her point.

In the same interpersonal situation, though, Arin would be quick to aid the other party in any way she could so long as it isn't morally obscured. Not being one for physical contact or dealing with her emotions, she might seem closed off to any interaction that directly involves her in the matters of another person's life but, in reality, she's just trying to think through the situation and find a solution to the problem. If there are no solutions that she can come up with, she may seem as if she's out of place due to the fact that she doesn't deal well with the thought of having someone to care for in a personal manner.

Combat Style

Thaumaturgy

Arin has practiced Thaumaturgy magic on her own for quite some time, slowly building up her intelligence and stamina so as to endure most combat. Her main source of damage comes from her use of flame and ice magic. She’s still learning different combinations as well as still practicing keeping her eyes and ears open for attacks that may not necessarily be visible to the bare eye, but she’s getting there.

Black Magick

With her research, Arin has gradually worked herself into Black Magick. Over the course of months, Arin conducted research on the uses of magick and how to intensify the potency. Her main focus was the ability to manipulate Aether to its utmost uses. When her significant other was captured, however, she found a reason to employ what she had learned. Because she didn't have the ability to manipulate Aether to the extent at which she needed, she made a deal with an Ahriman for the ability to see and work Aether to her will, costing her the sight of her right eye. With every deal there are consequences, of course, but it has served its uses and then some.

Time Magick

Aago also committed to teaching her the ways of Ivalician Time Magick, an art that she had always been curious about but wasn't sure actually existed. With her connection to Julius, a Hyur born and friend of Aago, she was introduced to both him and the resources to continue her experience and knowledge on the craft in Aago's brief absences.

Melee Ability

Her typical mindset may be that physical contact with the enemy is too close, but she understands that certain battle strategies benefit from it. Haylonos took the time to teach her to maneuver her magick abilities into a melee stance, creating weapons or in-your-face attacks with it to name a few.

Occupation, Skills, and Interests

Arin works as an organizer and receptionist for the company. Her job consists of keeping records of the recruits and their skill sets as well as what jobs they have undertaken and the experience they have that could potentially lead to other job offers to the recruits. Her side job for the company consists of keeping an eye on their leader who, with her bubbly personality and lost sense of rationality, tends to get herself into quite a bit of trouble. She also works with the Thaumaturgy guild by conducting research on Aether manipulation as well as some Alchemy. Although she’s not adept in the aspect of making money, she knows very well how to handle it.

With the research that Arin has done on her own outside of her Thaumaturgy job, she has effectively and actively taught herself a multitude of magics. The perks to this job is her skill in being able to think—tactics and probability—and effectively organize tactical structure.

In her free time, Arin will either be reading or sitting in a fairly populated area just watching the interactions between those around her. By observing the interactions of others, Arin feels she gets more knowledge on the socially acceptable as well as the requirements of maintaining relationships. Though she is learning that a tactical approach to making friends is most definitely not how you maintain that relationship, she still enjoys hearing the laughter produced between people who have known each other for a long time. For herself, however, the idea isn't entirely ideal.

Goals

Being the intellectual that she is, Arin adores learning about all things that could potentially be both useful and absolutely worthless. One of her main goals is to somehow come to terms with the fact that not everything can be gained or understood by scientific analysis alone. At the same time, she also hopes to become better in her understandings of the world and the things that make it go round, expanding her understanding of Thaumaturgy and the other magicks she's become exposed to. One of her most prominent goals, however, is to show her significant other what she's capable of.

Family

Ehmi Tayuun - Little Sister, the Holder; Always there in Spirit
Arin's younger sister. Growing up, the two were almost always attached at the hip. They had a twin-like bond in which they always seemed to know what the other was thinking, a special sort of intuition Arin realizes now. However, at the age of 8, Ehmi drowned in one of the many water ways of Gridania.
Julius Bennett - Adopted Brother, the Reckless; Free Paladin
Julius Bennet, free Paladin and adopted brother to Arin, the man is too often a martyr. In the time that Arin has known him, the similarities between their two personalities have fallen together in too close of a pattern. In some ways, a person might question their blood relation if it weren't for the fact that Julius was Hyur-born. It took time and a lot of effort on Julius' part to work his way into Arin's life the way he has, slowly sliding pieces of himself into her ritualistic routines and patience, but now she couldn't imagine her life without him. Upon the mutual trust, Arin offered Julius a position within the free company for no more than simply offering him a place to stay. He was too much of a free spirit to lock down with company jobs. Just as he had confided in her, she has also confided in him. But she swears the man was hit too hard in the head given his reckless tendencies.
Nahare Mergrey - Adopted Sister, the Special; Gunner
Nahare and Arin's first meeting didn't necessarily fly that well for the both of them. Given the state at which the woman entered for the first time, Arin was more than a little skeptical of her presence. Given Arin's nature toward appealing to those of significant difference than the normal population, however, Arin quickly came to an understanding of the Nahare's situation with the void and accepted her just as she had accepted Turik. As time passed and Arin watched Nahare's personality change and shift before her, she began to grow protective. Unlike Julius who had carefully worked his way onto a plane where physical touch was okay, Nahare had opted to simply throw the woman over her shoulder. It was panic inducing for Arin, but it may have been for the best. Julius asked Arin to look after Nahare, a promise she made to him without a second thought given her own feelings toward the redhead, and she fully intends to keep the promises she has made.
Nerah Tayuun - Mother, the Deceiver; Alchemist
Nerah is Arin's mother. Once upon a time, they might have had a decent parent-daughter relationship, but it seemed to disipate once Ehmi was born. She turned Arin into somewhat of a slave girl, using her for the chores and tasks that needed to be taken care of rather than treating her like family. Arin is no longer on speaking terms with her.
Ten'ra Bilau - Father, the Abandoner; Alchemist
Ten'ra is Arin's father. He never seemed to give her a second glance, allowing her mother to take care of her most basic needs. Once she was old enough to create memories, her most prominent is the infliction of harm. After Ehmi's death, he became the cause of the scar that is now visible over her left eye. They are no longer on speaking terms.

Personal Relationships

Ace Celah - Company Leader, the Crazy; Axe-wielder
Acalinia Tyata, Leader of the Solace Free Company. Though Acalinia and Arin haven't had much personal interaction, Acalinia is still insistent on teaching Arin the ways of socialization. Often times, Ace will push Arin to interact with the other company members despite her inhibitions but mostly, Ace is right in saying that Arin will feel comfortable once she's actually talked to them. From Arin's perspective, Ace is reckless and ready to get herself killed. Unable to live with a free conscience, Arin couldn't allow Ace to continue alone and appointed herself as the supposed "protector" and "organizer" for both Ace as well as the company member records.
Argust Clow - Solace Officer, the Mystery; Freelancer
Argust joined the free company at relatively the same time Arin did, but the two never exchanged words. Arin observed the man from afar, her preference for those she was unsure of, up until a chance meeting at one of the worst circumstances. It's obvious that the two hold very different values and lifestyles, but that doesn't inhibit Arin's scientific interest in the man. Despite the given information, the man seems to remain a mystery no matter how much of an effort she makes to put the pieces together.
Haylonos Val - Combat Instructor, the Insightful; Free Paladin
It was a chance meeting at the Quicksand that brought the two together as fate works in strange ways. She had been wary of the man at first given his upbeat and fastpaced personality, but she quickly realized there was more to the man than what her eyes took in. Words had slipped and revealed an entirely different side of the happy man in front of her and, must as she promised, she kept his secrets. In turn, he kept hers and agreed to train her in weaving her magick abilities with up-close combat. Hayl has become a very important person in Arin's life considering he was the first to witness her potential. He has an almost father-like persona in Arin's mind, though he could probably pass as an older brother.
Turik Flarewyng - First Love, the Spitfire; Monk
Turik holds a very special place in Arin's life. From the moment she had met the man, she had always known something was different about him. It wasn't until months after their first meeting that she would find out that her first impression of the man had been accurate. Out of need for revenge, Turik had quite literally taken a bite out of the primal Ifrit, the aether from the fire-god and Turik's own chakra eventually fusing. Despite the knowledge that Turik could turn on her at any moment if his control and concentration slipped, Arin took to pushing his buttons and taunting the man for the pure fact that she had more faith in him than he seemed to have in himself. With a little motivation, she prompted Turik to join the free company in which she's enlisted. To date, Arin is still quite firm in her faith in Turik and her love and adoration seems to grow every day. There is nothing she wouldn't do to ensure his safety and happiness.

History

Arin grew up in the gorgeous lands of Gridania with her parents and younger sister Ehmi. With strict parenting, Arin learned at a young age just how important it was to be efficient with time management, organization, and analytical thinking. Her mother and father were both alchemists and, as such, pushed hard for Arin to follow in their path. Ehmi, on the other hand, had a little more freedom in her interests.

At the age of 5, Arin had been put to work with household chores. She was expected to keep things clean, to do the laundry as it was needed, to cook when possible. Her specialty was making the tea that her parents would drink during their down time. Often Arin would be reprimanded for being childlike despite her age, causing her to work harder at the tasks and, ultimately, stress herself out. Ehmi attempted the best she could to keep Arin calm despite the age difference and lack of understanding, but Ehmi's compassion was enough to get her through.

At 7, Arin had become rather accustomed to her parents habits. As long as she didn't speak too much or present herself too often while they were home, her day was relatively stress free. On occasion, though, her parents seemed to take out their daily frustrations on her in the form of more work. Cooking each morning and night were committed to being her job by this time. Many types of soups and stews became a common occurrence for her to make despite the dangers of a girl her age preparing them. It was also during this time that Ehmi had caught on to the true struggles Arin went through, the crying and loneliness. In return, Ehmi decided to give Arin a stuffed Spriggan doll that she had carried with her since she was born.

By the age of 10, Arin had learned to have fun when her parents were out of the house. Hide and seek, tag, the typical childhood games were played around the house so as to not get caught by the neighbors. This, ultimately, led to Arin's disdain of childishness. Her sister, 8 years old, and herself had decided to play outside for once. The neighbors and any other prying eyes were off to a meeting with their parents, giving them more freedom to roam as they pleased. Arin was the seeker and Ehmi was the one to hide. Still being a child, Arin had forgotten to tell Ehmi to not go to the river. Not knowing how to swim, Ehmi fell into the water and drowned, and the brunt of her parents anger focus on Arin whom they blamed for her death.

By the time Arin had turned 13, she was but a hollow shell of a person. The constant berating from her parents and the community in which she lived had taken its toll on her. She continued to do her daily chores, continued to complete the tasks set by her parents, all without a second thought. She had learned that it was much easier on her if she just did it rather than attempt to work with her parents for a middle ground. Her father was much harder on her than her mother was, an odd occurrence considering her Keeper heritage. It had never been revealed to her (and never would be), but the fact of the matter was that Arin wasn't biologically related to her father.

His disdain for her had stemmed from the time she was very young, intensifying only once Ehmi's death had occurred. He accused Arin of murder, a trend that stuck with the rest of the community, and isolated her from anyone else her age. After one particularly drunken night, he had physically attacked her, slamming her head into the corner of a table which resulted in the scarring seen over her left eye. Her mother, on the other hand, simply didn't pay much mind to her. Instead, she opted to "enslave" Arin and use her as a source of handiwork. But this was the last that Arin was able to take before she snapped.

At 15 years old, Arin left her home to pursue Thaumaturgy. Her parents had wanted her to become an alchemist but, with the accusations and the hurtful words, Arin thought this was the better choice. After all, the Thaumaturgy guild in Ul'dah were the ones who performed autopsy's and the embalming procedures for funerals. As a murderer paying for her sins (her parents words), Arin felt it a punishment but embraced the arts anyway.

By the age of 17, Arin came to love her job. She had worked her way up from the workings of the Ossuary to a research. The brothers of the guild had done their best to teach her their art of magick and Arin continued to refine and practice her abilities the best she could from her sanctuary. She hadn't conversed with anyone outside of the guild since she arrived and, given her isolated childhood, had quite a bit of trouble making purchases outside. When it became obvious that the task was much too difficult for herself, she simply asked for the items to be retrieved for her, a feat the brothers were all too happy to take on since they were seeing something from the arts that they had never seen before.

At 21, Arin had done well in serving the guild. It was also during this time that a particular crazy Seeker decided to search her out and employ her within a mercenary free company known as Solace. Ever the reluctant one, Arin initially declined the offer. She wasn't comfortable leaving the confines of the Ossuary, not because she didn't think she was capable of the job asked of her, but because she was more than comfortable to continue the lifestyle she had created for herself. However, it was obvious that the Axe-wielding Miqo'te was... rather brash and, alone, the woman would surely get herself killed. In good faith, there was no way Arin could allow her to walk out the door alone. Sucking up her pride, Arin accepted the offer and began her journey in what she had deemed the "open world".
