He prefers the calm nature or his quiet library. V I C E S ■ Vain -- Mauh is vain and easy to please if someone strokes his ego. He likes to dress well and giving him compliments is a safe way to get on his good side. This opens ways to manipulate him, especially by beautiful women for whom he easily falls. In the other way, he is easily offended if people are rude towards him or insult him. ■ Emotional -- His mood can swing from very high to very low, but not suddenly. It's major events that form his mood for days and weeks. Also h is easily offended, easily angered. One just needs to attack him personally. ■ Smartass -- He can sometimes come off as arrogant with all the things he thinks he knows about. Because he reads so much he thinks he knows everything, but he doesn't. S K I L L S ■ Magic -- He was born as a natural talent in the aetherical arts, blessed with a vast reserve of personal Aether. He showed an affinity for the aetherical arts of nature from a young age on, especially for the forces of elemental earth which his aetherical signature is tipped towards, making it easier for him to manipulate this element. He got teached and practised conjury since teenage years, giving him over 15 years of experience in it. After Ishgard opened its gates, he took an interest in the arts of astromancy. He noticed that he could easily transfer his knowledge of handling aether onto the new art, the form and usage was different, but handling aether for magic stayed the same. He trains to deepen his understanding of astromancy and getting better in it, neglecting his old conjury art. ■ Alchemy/Medicinal/Poison Knowledge -- Through the teachings of his grandmother, late clan elder, he learned what there was to learn about herbs, natural remedies and poisons. A skill that he smartly improved upon later once he got access to more knowledge (books) and the resources of Ul'dah (alchemist guild). ■ Spirituality/Religion. He is a devout follower of the twelve and believes that they do actively influence the lives of mortals, if it pleases them. Thus he deems it possible to sway the gods in one's favor through prayer. Mauh: "They can watch us whenever, but they don't always do. The can interact with the world unseen whenever, but they don't always do." He was born in the 11th moon of the cycle, associated with Nophica, thus having gotten her as patron deity, strenghtening his bond with nature and plants. Like Nohpica, who is associated with the element of earth, he has a strong natural affinity for the earth element. After the death of his daughter Qhon he turned away from Nophica, abandoning the aspect of new growing life that was so important to him, turning to Althyk, the god of change (and time and space), who is also associated with the element of earth. ■ Politics. Although only have spent a small part of his life in Ul'dah so far, he was born there and after his return he definitly made it his home. He is an Ul'dahn patriot, even though he keeps out of politics in general. He did not get in much contact with the brass blades or the government and keeps it that way. He supports the royalists because it is "the better thing to do" considering they do more for the common people than the monetarists. On the global scale, he thinks the Eorzean Alliance is a good idea because it's the only way the city states can stand against the garleans. United we stand, divided we fall. He thinks even more so now, that he moved to the Mists, living in limsan jurisdiction. A P P E A R A N C E ■ Body: Muscular, but not buff. He likes to look good and therefore trains his body regularly. He trains for looks, not fighting capability. ■ Skin: A naturally tanned skin as you'd expect it of denizens of the desert. He get's mistaken as a Seeker because of that sometimes. It might very well be that he had seeker ancestors down the familyline. ■ Hair: He has brown hair that he wears long and open. He takes great care of it, due to his desire to look good. ■ Eyes: He has blue-grey eyes that are behind glasses most of times. He is short sighted and only sees blurry without them, if it's not very close. ■ Scars: One scar sits very prominently over his nose and betwen his eyebrows, crossing the middle diagonally. A second, bigger scar sits right in the middle on top of his left shoulder, like from a vertical sword slash. Besides that his skin is scarfree, proof of his relatively safe life so far, either as "housecat" or backrowfighter. ■ Tail: He has a long, sleek tail that gets thinner towards the tip. Like the big version of a rat or mouse tail. ■ Clothes: He likes fancy clothing of high quality, a need he satisfies with his money and the famous weavers of Ul'dah. He can often be seen in robes or elegant clothing that is golden, black or of similar dark color. ■ Jewelry: Vain as he is, he likes shiny jewelry as well, wearing rings, necklaces and sometimes braclets. Just not earrings, as his ears are not pierced. ■ Distinguishing Features: His most distinguishing feature is probably the diagonal scar in his face. Besides that his rather sleek tail, somewhat unusual among the many "brush" or "bushy" tails of other miqo'te. Another thing is his walking cat-doll mammet Albus, a former toy of his late daughter. He keeps it as a reminder and it follows him everywhere (except onto missions and into the wilderness). Albus the Catdoll Albus is a walking Cat-Doll, a mammet made by the Goldsmith Guild. Mauh's daughter Qhon left his Clan a long time ago together with her Mother. As Mauh should find out later, the mother perished in an attack by wild beasts, with Qhon ending up in an Ul'dahn orphanage. After Mauh joined the Kindred, he found out and took Qhon to him, gifting her Albus as a welcome gift. Albus is crafted after one of the dolls the Goldsmith Guild made for orphans after the calamity, imbued with aether from Mauh himself. He is sentient like other mammets, but with the restrictions other artificially and magically created beings have. After Qhon's death at the hands of Coeurlclaw bandits, Mauh decided to keep Albus around as a memory keepsake after he showed signs of understanding and mutual grief. Now Albus usually always follows Mauh around, except for occasions that lead Mauh into wilderness or on dangerous missions. Albus is smart enough to understand simple orders, concepts and conversations, even going so far as to give Mauh privacy when needed, even without Mauh needing to tell him to. In those cases Albus covers his eyes, runs away and hides, deactivating himself which prompts Mauh to have to search for him later. Albus has a metallic, squeaky voice as one would expect from a robotic cat, but he stays silent most times. Rarely ever speaking, he prefers to just follow Mauh around and stare at people with his big green eyes. R E L A T I O N S   Leanette Marsond (  ♥   ●   ✔) - Lea / Dear / Darling Mauh coming together with Lea was surprising. Seeing her as just another unremarkable, albeit pretty young Keeper girl in the company, he was surprised when she asked him out on Valentines. Being reluctant at first, he eased into it after a rocky start, his affections for her jump-started after he impregnated her. After asking her to keep the baby, he grew more and more attached to her the more time they spent together. After initial rejection, a short misadventure with another woman and realizing what his heart really wanted, he admitted his love for her and after a tearful, joyous reunion they came officially together as a couple.   Nailah Quill (  ♦   ●   ✔) - Nailah Mauh's relationship with Nailah was a turbulent one with many developments over the course of time. She took him into the Kindred when he first came back to Ul'dah. Their relation was professional at first, with him helping her in leading and organising the Kindred, but over time he came more and more at odds with the decisions she made and the way she led, with him finally getting fired and leaving after the death of his lover Vijara. Since then he has returned and realized the mistakes he has made, changing his view of Nailah as well. Now he respects and trusts her, believing she knows well what she does and supporting her once more.   Thala'to Relehna (  ♥   ● ) - Thal / Brother Mauh's relation with his younger brother was uneasy at first. After having lived their whole lives apart, Thala'to didn't trust Mauh when he came to join the Kindred, following Thala'tos trail. Thala'to was envious of Mauh taking the spotlight and making new friends easily, a conflict that was spurred on by Mauh falling for Vijara, who in turn was interested in Thala'to. They managed to overcome their rivalry over time, and ever since the death of Vijara and his daughter Qhon, Mauh grew to appreciate what family that was left to him more and more. He is very fond of his Brother nowadays and wants to free him from his misery in the Platinum Mirage that holds sway over Thala'to to this day.   Vehya Relehna (  ♥   ●   ✔ ) - Vivi Vehya is one of the very last remaining people of his tribal past, a younger cousin that grew up with him in the Clan. Like him, she was gifted with the talent for magic, but not as much naturally skilled and thus were always looking up to him when they both got teached by their Grandmother. She saw him as an older brother, affectionally calling him Maw-Maw, which he returned by calling her Vivi. After their ways parted in their respective coming-of-age phases, she later found him again in the Kindred and joined up with him, both surprised and glad to see what had become of the other. He is glad to see his cousin has grown into a smart, pretty woman, but in his opinion she could be a bit more sociable. W R I T I N G / A R T S T O R I E S Stories are in chronological order. Story of his beginning He was born in Ul'dah, in a nightclub called "the Mirage", his mother being a dancer that long before fled her criminal Keeper clan of bandits in the south shroud. His father Ranu’a was a merchant and travelling keeper that met Thala in the nightclub and took a fancy to her. After Mauh’a -initially named Thala'a- was born, he sticked around as good as possible, but it was difficult due to Thala's work in the nightclub. The nightclub was no place for children, and as Thala'to, their second son got born, the pressure got worse. Mauh, Thalas sister and Matriarch of the Relehna tribe, searched for her "lost" sister and found her two years after Thala'tos birth. They argued, Mauh trying to convince Thala to come back, and as that didn’t work tried to get at least her children back into the tribe, even more so considering they were sons and thus important for the tribes future. The pressure finally got too much to bear, Thala agreed to give up at least Thala'a who was old enough to travel. At age of 7, he got taken by Mauh as her own and was brought to the tribe in the south shroud, from then on called Mauh'a. The strain that was put on their relationship, and finally Thala agreeing on giving away Thala'a, led to his father breaking with Thala and leaving her and Thala'to. Having "lost" first son and partner, Thala succumbed to alcohol and depression, while Thala'to grew up to be a dancer in the Mirage. Mauh'a wouldn't learn of his mother’s demise until he was 27 and met his brother again. Mauh'a grew up in the south shroud, member of the Relehna tribe who lived mainly by poaching in the forest and robbing the rich merchants travelling over land to and from Ul'dah. Due to their criminal nature they isolated themselves, avoiding contact with others, except for some few occasions. By nature, he turned out to be rather clumsy and short sighted, and thus was a terrible hunter and bandit. He was kept back at their village most of times, even more so as he was guarded jealously as one of the few, valuable breeding males for the isolated tribe. Having noticed his natural talent soon, he got mentored and teached by his Grandmother Nahn, the tribe elder and former matriarch, in reading, medicine, magic and knowledge overall, so he would be of more use for the tribe. The calamity struck when he was 22, killing most of the tribe including his Aunt Mauh, his daughter Oah and her Mother Verisha. His former lover Nami took over as new matriarch, and she would rule the remnants of the tribe with an iron fist for the next coming years, driving away all mothers and children of the tribe, ceasing breeding and giving up on the future of the tribe, concentrating on banditry completely. Which left only the harshest huntresses and the males in the village. When he was 27, his grandmother died of old age with 71 years. At the same time, the tribe landed a big coup, robbing a big caravan of rich merchants, claiming goods and gil that amounted to the worth of 2 million. The tribe celebrated this coup, and Mauh'a used this occasion and his knowledge of toxins to poison them all, killing off the remnants of his tribe, getting revenge on Nami and her fellow Huntresses, and greedily claiming all the gil for himself alone. He then left the shroud and followed the only trail he got: The remnants of his family that he knew to be in Ul’dah. He arrived at the mirage only to discover that his mother had died some time ago, and that his brother left for another place: The Kindred. Following his brothers trail, he joined the Kindred free company which should be his new home from now on.
