Scars & Markings: At least one tattoo, TBD. Strangely, he has no scars. Voice: Smooth, melodic low tenor, with an accent you can’t quite put your finger on. Clothing: Practicality first, cuts and color combinations that serve to break up the outline of the body in the Gyr Abanian countryside. When he's not out there fighting for his life, he dresses contextually; either for comfort or to show himself off. He always wears a glove or gauntlet on his left hand/arm, and does not appear to carry the obvious focus most red mages employ. Sociable, friendly, and flirtatious on the surface--Irritable, sarcastic, and sharp-tongued beneath. NPC Aedwen Lockwood ( ♥✖ ) (NPC) Mother Tracing her family’s roots back to Mhachi and Amdapori refugees, and raised in a family heavily steeped in keeping their own insular line of Red Magic, Aedwen trained her whole life and was expected to inherit the role of master instructor for their extended family. Life—and-love—intervened. To Merrick she was an affectionate mother, and a hard but fair teacher. Ian Lockwood ( ♥✖ ) (NPC) Father A conjurer by training, Ian’s true passion was for ancient magics. He pursued scholarly study of Red Magic without interest in practicing it as a method to reconstruct ancient casting methods, and eventually set out if search of modern practitioners. His research brought him to Ala Mhigo in troubled times, and when he found he couldn’t part from one of his primary sources, they returned to the Sharlayan colony together. To Merrick, Ian was a devoted father and a knowledgeable tutor in almost any topic. Coren Lockwood ( ♥ ) (NPC) Older Brother By all rights the eldest should’ve been the favored pupil in magic—but alas, he never showed the aptitude. He took to studying and swordplay well enough, and is a scholar in his own right, simply not of magic. He lived in Limsa Lominsa with their mother while Merrick finished schooling, and eventually joined the Maelstrom. Coren and Merrick have always been very close, though they’ve had no communication in the last five years. Meralda ( ♥ ) (NPC) Maternal Aunt Meralda was never as good at magic as her older sister, but when Aedwen left it fell to her to carry the heaviest burden of the line. She remained home in Ala Mhigo and joined a resistance cell, but not before making sure the family scattered far and wide in an effort to ensure their brand of magic would not die out in the war. She welcomed Aedwen, Ian, and Merrick to Ala Mhigo when they came to fight. Of late she was grievously injured, and taken across the wall to Gridania for long-term healing. PC Chidori Farcloud ( ♥♦ ) (PC) If Chidori weren’t spoken for Merrick would be courting her affections—but she is, and quite happy, so he is content to consider her a friend. He finds her beautiful, and is utterly charmed by her playful personality. He knows she isn’t innocent to war, but she represents a state of being he can never return to. Roger Holmes ( ♦ ) (PC) Merrick finds Roger fun to poke and prod, but he doesn’t know him well enough to know much more than that. Kumori Farcloud ( ♠) (PC) Kumori takes every opportunity to insult him. The feeling has become mutual. Their disagreement with each other stems from cultural/philosophical differences neither is willing to discuss with the other.
