Character

General

Daghbheri "Dogberry" Himalspyr was born in La Noscea from a long line of whalers. The name Himalspyr translates to "Heaven Spear", and it is said that the first to bear this name could throw their harpoon into the highest parts of the heavens. His childhood was normal and happy for your average Sea Wolf. Plenty of roughhousing and surfing. When he came of age, Daghbheri set out to become a whaler like the rest of the men in his family. After spending time aboard He soon became a prodigious harpooner, and amassed a modest amount of fortune and fame for his work. He even sometimes hints at a stint as a pirate. For a while, Daghbheri was satisfied with the way his life was going until the Garlean invasion. It was then that Daghbheri joined up with the Maelstrom. During the battle of Carteneau, Daghbheri was on a crew sent to investigate an anomaly in the tides most likely caused by Dalamud falling. Daghbheri watched as the moon broke apart and a small piece hit the water near him. The piece caused a wave that capsized his ship. Daghbheri went under, but suffered major injuries, including the loss of his eye. He woke up on a strange beach, and found himself a broken man. He has not picked up a spear since that day, and now makes a living fighting in bareknuckle boxing matches, as well as taking on odd jobs like bouncing at Soliloquy. Recently he has gathered capital to commission a ship called Syldra's Revenge, and has taken to the sea once again.

Appearance

A hulking, massive Roegadyn, who looks like he was chiseled out of marble. He keeps his hair and beard dyed green and in deadlocks pulled back into a ponytail. You can see his natural blond hair coming out at the roots. His face is covered in scars, and his left eye is covered by an eyepatch. These days he dresses in a more formal fashion than he used to. He prefers a Limsa Lominsan overcoat and makes his face up in traditional hunter makeup from his ancestral tribal history.

Behavior

Daghbheri presents himself as a pretty laid back guy, if a little uncaring at times. Once people get to know him, it becomes obvious that Daghbheri does indeed care a lot about people. He's generous with his money, time, and moko grass, and seems to enjoy other people's company. He seems to be an empathetic person and a loyal friend.

On the other hand, Daghbheri shows signs of post-traumatic stress from his shipwreck experience. He occasionally has episodes of nervous behavior and hypervigilance. There are times, it seems, when he is incapable of relaxing. To remedy this, he throws himself into work and training, or failing that, surfing, drinking, and moko grass. He shows signs of a death wish as well, taking on risky behavior without regard for consquences. He seems to be wound much tighter now that he has taken on responsibility for others. He has become much more willing to assert dominance, and prone to angry outbursts. He also seems to show a renewed disregard for certain aspects of the law.

General

Daghbheri was trained as a lancer by his family aboard whaling ships and other vessels of lesser repute, but hadn't picked up a spear in years. For a while he worked as a pugilist in the shady parts of Limsa Lominsa and Ul'dah. He has since studied the ways of the Monk and has rededicated himself to mastering the spear.

Family

Daghbheri is the only son, with two sisters. Only his father and one of his sisters are alive. His father lives in Aleport, and his younger sister lives in Gridania. His older sister died in the battle of Carteneau, and his mother died of natural causes a year later. He still sees his father regularly, but doesn't talk to his sister very often.

Friends

Abaigeal Causland - Possibly his closest friend. His feelings for her border on more than friendship, but Daghbheri's views on relationships have prevented him from active attempts at courtship.

Xenedra Ambreaus - "Red" amuses Daghbheri to no end. He sees her as a kindred spirit in their own libertine lifestyles.

Mirion Black - Daghbheri respects Mirion as a fighter and a veteran of the bloodsands. He likes his sense of humor, and enjoys his company greatly.

Scarlet Willow - A co-worker that Daghbheri regards fondly. Calls her by her Roegadyn name out of respect.

Fearless Wynn - Mostly impressed by his work ethic and his ability to "goozle" dudes through tables.

Mikael - Another fighter that Daghbheri respects greatly. Though he is very set in his ways, Daghbheri thinks he might understand Mikael a little more than most.

Endemerrin Rosethorne - Daghbheri calls him "boss", by virtue of him being his boss. He sees Endemerrin as a forward thinker, and supports his views on Magitek.

Magdalena Duskwarden - He admires her for her leadership skills, among other things.

• Daghbheri is actually Llymlaen's son. She formed his body from sea stones, his hair from seaweed and his eyes from droplets of the sea during a storm. That's where his coloring comes from.

Dogberry is a composite of a lot of different inspirations to me, most of all stemming from the book Moby Dick and other literary depictions of life at sea.
