General Appearance.
Gaspard is quite tall, standing at 6 fulms and 10 ilms of height. Though his build is nothing but average for an Elezen man, he still appears to be broader than most, thanks in no small part to a scrupulous exercise regimen and healthy diet.

He is remarkably pale, with platinum blonde hair, lush green eyes and alabaster skin - prone to sunburns throughout the warm season. His clean shaven face is long and chiseled, with high cheekbones, a sharp jawline and a straight nose. His lips are large and full.

In spite of his formerly rough lifestyle, Gaspard's body is surprisingly devoid of any prominent scarring, with most minor injuries tending to heal and fade quickly. The only notable exception is a long, wide keloid scar stretching across his upper back. His posture is generally poor, and he can be found slouching most of the time when he is not making a conscious effort to keep a proper stance.

Scars & Markings.
A wide, deep scar across his upper back, seemingly left by an ugly sword wound. It appears to be very old.

Voice.
Gaspard's voice is baritonal, ranging towards the lower end. It can be described as warm and husky. The volume of his speech is usually quiet.
His accent is fairly unremarkable, commonly heard across the Shroud.

Clothing.
Gaspard's wardrobe is fairly small in terms of amount and variety. Though not completely unconcerned with fashion, he puts no effort in following trends and will usually pick practicality over looks. He does not mind his attires being form-fitting, granted that they still retain a certain amount of flexibility and allow freedom of movement. Pockets are of relative importance, as he prefers keeping his items stored in bags, pouches and satchels.
He seems to prefer wearing muted hues over striking, bold colors.
As he is particularly sensitive to cold temperatures, it is common to see him wear long sleeves even on a warm day.

Shy and reserved, Gaspard is a humble and affable man who'd happily live his whole life as a wallflower.
Though he is generally the laid back type, his playful side can easily come out with the right company at his side - or with the right drink passing through his lips. A child at heart, he is curious to a fault and overly-imaginative, and is easy to please, entertain, and sway. The best outlet for this curiosity is travel - which Gaspard is really fond of. Rarely staying in the same place for long, he often seeks the thrill of something new or, at least, that of a change of scenery.

Weak of boundaries, fairly generous and blissfully oblivious, he aims to please and nurture those around him in whatever measure he can, sometimes to the point of self detriment. He has a hard time saying no and is easy to exploit and abuse for it, his insecurity and poor self-esteem clipping his wings and clouding his better judgement on many an occasion.
Gaspard sees himself as an entirely disposable element in the lives of others, and fully expects to be used for his looks, company or whatever skill and asset he may possess, only to be left behind when he is no longer of use. He accepts it as a sad truth that he cannot change, and will more often than not simply let things follow 'their natural course', trusting people and humoring them in whatever measure he can without expecting much in return.

He is oblivious to flirting and seduction in a nigh hopeless way, and will likely mistake any attempt for weird friendliness, not reading between the lines. He has been known for missing the most obvious of hints when they are thrown at him. And yet, in spite of this, those few who might have got past this cluelessness would have often found him willing - his motive and drive being that of pleasing others rather than lust. Due to this, his past has been somewhat promiscuous, marked by encounters that only reinforced his belief of being usable and disposable.
With every past attempt at forming a lasting romantic bond having ended in failure, he has become very guarded when it comes to matters of the heart. Still wounded by the end of his engagement, he is currently unwilling to step into the realm of romance.

Likes

  • Chocobos. He loves any and all of these creatures, and his own pet Lennard in particular. Rearing and tending to chocobos for a living is one of his dream jobs.
  • Music. Though unable to play any instrument and untrained at singing, he enjoys spectating the performances of others and will not miss any opportunity to do so.
  • Travel. Struck by an incurable wanderlust and afflicted with boundless curiosity, he enjoys drifting from land to land according to whim and opportunity. He loves seeing new places, exploring hidden corners of the ones he has already visited, and hopes that one day the Twelve will grant him the chance to visit distant or inaccessible places, such as Meracydia or the New World.

Dislikes

  • Cruelty. People who inflict pain upon others gratuitously are among the things Gaspard dislikes the most.
  • Vilekin. Creepy and definitely crawly. Gaspard would not miss the many creatures that qualify as vilekin at all, if they were to suddenly become extinct.
  • Spicy foods. He cannot stand very spicy flavors.
  • Cold. He is very sensitive to cold temperatures and will suffer from their effect faster than your average person.

Fears

  • Abandonment. While he fully expects to be discarded after outstaying his use in the lives of others, he still dreads the moment when this certainty will come to pass, time and time again.
  • Uselessness and powerlessness. After having been unable to help or save others under dire circumstances, the very idea of it happening again has become his nightmare.
  • Drowning and big bodies of water. He is able to remain composed enough to take a swim and embark ships, but if given the choice, he won't go past where the water is shallow.

Hobbies

  • Spectating performances. Fond of street bards and musicians, he will often stop and listen if the chance presents itself.
  • Traveling and sightseeing. From the west to the east, he wants to see it all.
  • Tending to his pets. Gaspard harbors a deep love for his pets and tries to take care of them in whatever measure he can. Playing, feeding, grooming - you name it.
  • Treasure hunting. Even if he's not very good at it, he enjoys the thrill of a good adventure!
  • Chocobo races. Spectating this sport is a thing Gaspard enjoys greatly.

Family

Yvette Haurtefert ( ) ( Mother )

Gaspard's memories of his mother are very few and faded, but he remembers her with great fondness. She was a fair woman in every sense of the word, with delicate porcelain skin, silver hair, and eyes of pale gold.

Yvette loved Gaspard with all of her heart in spite of the regrettable circumstances behind his birth - which he had been made aware of from a very young age.
She had been arrested for taking part in a caravan robbery some time before his birth, and fell victim to the violence of one of the wardens during her brief stay in the gaol. Although she managed to escape after barely two moons of detainment, she did so bearing a child as a result of her ordeal. Her choice to keep Gaspard brought heavy criticism upon her, both from her husband and the people of their enclave, but she never regret it.

Being one of the very few conjurers of their small enclave, Yvette was often busy tending to the wounds of others, given the dangerous nature of their lifestyle and profession. This made her spend a great amount of time out of home. Even so, she made sure to dedicate the entirety of whatever little free time she had to her family, and her youngest son in particular.

In the aftermath of a sting operation led by the Twin Adder, she lost her life while mounting a fierce resistance against their attempts to arrest her and her brethren, leaving Gaspard orphaned when he was nearly eight summers of age.
Sylveret Lanquairt ( ) ( Father )
What little information is known about this man was acquired through the words and stories of others, for Gaspard has never met his sire in person, and has no desire to do so. He harbors a seething hatred for this man due to his horrible deeds and the resulting stigma, and will often choose not to answer any question about him.

A Wildwood Elezen, a member of the God's Quiver until his death, and a gaol warden at the time of Gaspard's conception, this man apparently had a fondness for Duskwight women and spared no effort in seducing those he fancied - or worse, forcing himself upon them if all else failed.

Although Gaspard could not confirm this for himself, he was told that their facial features and body frame are extremely similar, to the point where Gaspard was recognizable as his son by a perfect stranger.

If Arthurioux's words are to be believed, this man has sired many other children besides the two of them. But that claim remains to be verified.
Alambertel Fierlaine ( ) ( Stepfather )
Alambertel was the husband of Gaspard's mother Yvette, and the father of his half-brother Octavel. Although he harbored a deep dislike for Gaspard, he was apparently a doting father to Octavel and a loving husband to Yvette.

He was extremely critical of his wife's choice to keep the illegitimate child, and though he ultimately accepted it because of his love for her, he felt that it brought great shame upon his family's name. The harsh criticism received by the people of the enclave only reinforced his opinion on the matter.

Alambertel scarcely tolerated Gaspard's presence around him, demanding that the child be still and quiet at all times, and never contributed to his rearing and upbringing in any positive way. Whatever words he had to spare for him were often vitriolic.
He reacted to Gaspard's attempts of seeking his attention and love with hostility, and often threatened to abandon him in the forest whenever the child's actions and behavior bothered him - nearly making good on his word on a handful of occasions.

In the aftermath of a sting operation, Alambertel lost his life while trying to resist the Twin Adder's attempts to arrest him and his people, perishing alongside his wife and many others.
Octavel Fierlaine ( ) ( Half-brother )
Octavel was Gaspard's eldest half-brother, born of the same mother, and the most important and loved person in his past.

Twelve years his senior, Octavel was a doting brother and did all he could to help his mother raise Gaspard right. Due to the busy nature of Yvette's job, he was often the one to tend after his little brother's needs, and effectively became a surrogate parent figure.
When his duties to the enclave did not keep him busy, Octavel spent all of his time and effort in trying to teach Gaspard all he could - social behavior and manners, survival, fighting, letters and numbers. Although his young age and immaturity prevented him from being a perfect role model, his wits, kindness and dutifulness inspired his little brother all the same. He often consoled his brother and did his best to protect him from the harassment of children and adults alike, brought by the stigma of Gaspard's illegitimacy and mixed blood.

Both he and Gaspard had been absent during the attack that claimed his parents' life, and upon their return, they could do nothing but observe the aftermath. Following this horrible event, Octavel made the choice not to join another enclave, and instead headed to Quarrymill disguised as an adventurer.
Through a hearing, both he and his brother were granted entry and residence in the city-state of Gridania, with the blessing of the Elementals. Having found no other means of employ and being in desperate need of money, he enlisted in the Order of the Twin Adder in spite of the anger he felt for the organisation. This choice made Gaspard resent him for a long time, but as the boy grew up, he came to understand and respect Octavel's decision.

Much to his regret, Octavel's duties to the Twin Adder forced him to spend a great deal of time away of home, leaving Gaspard to take care of himself during his brother's frequent leaves. Though less than optimal, this arrangement worked out, and their many years in the city-state were all relatively peaceful, even in spite of the widespread prejudice against their race.

He met his untimely death at the Battle of Carteneau, claimed by the fury of the Dreadwyrm itself.
Arthurioux Goudernoux ( ) ( Half-brother )
Arthurioux is Gaspard's half-brother, born of the same father. He is some years younger than Gaspard.

The two men met by chance at Bentbranch Meadows, and began questioning one another due to their physical resemblance and the uncanny feeling of familiarity they felt. It took Arthurioux a very short amount of time to recognize Gaspard's physical similarities with their sire, having seen the man once before with his own eyes. The comparison upset Gaspard greatly, and mistaking his indignation for aggression, Arthurioux attacked Gaspard in self-defense.

Following a small altercation, the two eventually got on speaking terms and shared a brief recount of their lives and experiences with one another - though some of Arthurioux's words and remarks nearly angered Gaspard through the course of their conversation.

They have recently made an effort to connect and create a bond, with the hope of being of help and support to one another, and perhaps lay their dark family history to rest once and for all.

Important People and Friends

Primrose Morningdew ( ¿ )
Gaspard and Primrose met by pure chance, after the man got attacked by a squirrel and was left with a bleeding hand. Luckily, Primrose's basic understanding of conjury was enough to heal this small wound. Over the course of their conversations, the woman shared a recount of her tragic story and circumstances with him, which prompted Gaspard to accept her strange proposal of becoming his bodyguard.

The two eventually set out on some adventures, and through the time they spent together, Primrose's feelings of friendship eventually turned into something more, which she chose to confess during a trip to Costa del Sol. Her bluntness successfully got the message through Gaspard's oblivious mind, but he could not return her crush. And while Primrose's feelings only kept growing over the following moons, Gaspard started developing a deep sense of guilt for being unable to reciprocate them.

It was a set of tragic events that brought the pair closer and closer; for each sorrow that afflicted the woman, he would redouble his efforts to make her happy, offering her a place to stay in his apartment, his complete trust, and a great measure of time and affection. All of these attentions were returned by her, much to his delight. Yet, he would still be in denial about his emotions being of romantic nature, oblivious to his own heart.
The realization came only after Primrose decided to lie and leave, believing it to be the best thing she could do for the man. And it was his confession that brought her back, marking the start of a relationship that rushed every step of the way, straight into a marriage proposal.

Their devotion to one another and their dreams of a future and family together lasted through many hardships, but were ultimately tarnished -and perhaps completely undone- by Gaspard's exceedingly forgiving nature; after forgiving an attempted murder at the hands of a scorned friend who had taken a liking to him, Primrose could not reconcile her feelings with this fact, and chose to take her leave before things would truly turn sour.

The marriage date passed without an union, and Gaspard is currently unsure of her whereabouts or intentions, having parted on unclear terms.
While his desire to reunite with Primrose is ardent, the prospect also terrifies him, and he finds himself unable to do anything besides mourning the loss of what his mistakes have spoiled.

Kaede Kazuma ( )
What brought Kaede and Gaspard together was initially only work; she sought a test subject for her concoctions, and he was in need of coin.
Their arrangement changed fairly soon: instead of paying him with money, Kaede offered to teach him the theoretical side of botany - a trade which Gaspard had already been well acquainted with, albeit only in practice. With the man accepting this proposal, their relation mutated into a student-teacher one.

Seeing a kind and warm side of her, Gaspard sought to become closer and know her better, often proposing outings and dates which were shot down without so much a consideration. Even so, they eventually became friends to some degree, alternating between business and leisure as time went by.

After learning of Gaspard's engagement, Kaede became really upset, having apparently developed romantic feelings for the man that she had kept unspoken through the course of several moons. This spiraled into a breakdown that became more and more apparent at every attempt Gaspard would make to speak with her, culminating in her holding him at gunpoint, threatening to kill him for his rejection.
There is no grudge held against Kaede for her actions, which Gaspard believes to have been dictated by sorrow rather than malice. Having made the choice to forgive her, he hopes for their friendship to return to what it once was.
