Character

Syrress Detilderan is a Midlander Hyur from Gridania. She was a notable adventurer for many cycles following the Calamity. Recent events and the increase in students at the Conjurer's Guild has seen her recalled to offer her knowledge and talents as a teacher and instructor at the guild which she grew up in so many cycles ago. When time permits, and her Free Company, the 81st Foreign Levy is not actively engaged in work, she can be found instructing the new students, or simply wondering the Shroud, most notably found in prayer beneath the Guardian Tree.

Personality

Syrress is a compassionate individual, with a strong will and equally strong desire to help those in need. She is generally very approachable, always greeting strangers and friends alike with a warm smile and pleasant demeanor. Despite her strong beliefs in the divine Twelve, she is very open and accepting of most, despite their sharing her faith and ideals, regardless of what they might be. She does have a tendency to shy up when in the company of large groups, retreating to silence, though listening intently to all around her.

Combat

Melee: Syrress has no formal training in physical combatives, knowing little more than how to swing her stave should the need arise. There was a time in her past where she had hoped to learn the use of sword and shield, though those desires faded away, along with the one whom was to teach her. Recently she has come under tutelage of Zarek Earthshaker, learning the art of sword and shield. She is slowly but surely progressing in how to use each, as well as devoting time to her strength and conditioning.

Ranged: No formal training in the use of ranged devices, be it bow and arrow or any other form of projectile firing weapon. Her only experience with such a weapon resulted in an accidental discharge of a crudely crafted firearm one eve while staying at the inn in Limsa Lominsa. Damage to the wall was payed for in full.

Magic: Syrress has a strong affinity for white magic and aether manipulation pertaining to arcanic magic and healing. She has studied the art of conjureing since her seventh name day in Gridania, and continued to do so on a daily basis until her eighteenth name day, though to this day she frequently makes return trips to her home in Gridania to seek the wisdom and counsel of E-Sumi-Yan, head of the Conjurer's Guild, when ever the chance presents itself. She began her scholarly studies shortly after her twentieth name day, and continues to hone and practices her skills in this art to this day.

Religious Beliefs & Philosophy

  • Syrress is a devout follower of the Twelve, and favors the teachings of Thaliak, the Scholar. She still firmly believes in the twelve benevolent deities of Eorzea, despite their decline in popularity among the population. She is an avid scholar and reader of any and all scriptures she can find having anything to do with the Twelve. Though a devout believer and follower, she is not one to push her beliefs on others, or judge those whom do not share the same ideals and beliefs as she. A prior student of the Seedseer, E-Sumi-Yan, leader of the Conjurer's Guild, she has learned much from her mentor and his siblings, mostly from Kan-E-Senna, the spiritual leader of her city state, and has the utmost faith and confidence in her wisdom and teachings.

Fears

  • Failing those she cares for
  • Again, anything possessing more than six legs
  • The thought of dying old and alone disturbs her greatly, despite having developed close bonds with others through out her life

Flaws

  • Very weak when it comes to physical confrontations, perhaps relying a bit too heavily on her aetheric training.
  • Has a hard time admitting when she is wrong, convinced that this be a seldom occurrence when pertaining to subjects and topics she feels rather well versed in.
  • Her accepting and trusting nature has resulted in her being lied to as well as betrayed, and her generosity has opened the door on a few occasions to be taken advantage of.

Friends

Kan-E-Senna: The eldest Seedseer, and leader of of Gridania, Kan-E-Senna is the shining light, leading the way for all of Gridania against the current threats to the realm. Greatly respected and cherished by Syrress, she is regarded as a prime example of what Syrress hopes to become. Syr has been fortunate to share many conversations with the Seedseer over the cycles in Gridania, even joining her city-states leader on rare occaison in the Lotus Stand, talking mostly of the ongoings in the realm, as well as Syr's peculiar loss of her ability to hear the elementals whispers.

E-Sumi-Yan: Mostly a mentor in her studies, she does consider the Padjal a friend, greatly admiring his knowledge and wisdom

Chiane N'ardente: The Duskwight has been a good friend to Syr ever since they met. She's offered her help on more than one occaison, and for that Syrress has been forever greatful. The two share a like mind in their quest for knowledge and understanding of the aetherial arts, as well as history on a variety of topics. Chiane is one that Syrress could spend hours speaking too, and looks forward to their meetings and chats.

Jancis Milburga: Syrress met Jancis under less than fortunate circumstances, as the latter had received injury and was brought to the Phoenix Rose to be tended to. She has been in awe of the woman she met ever since, a shining light among the people of her Free Company. The two have maintained correspondence since Syrress departed from Thanalan, keeping in touch as they are able. Syrress holds Jancis in such regards that there is nothing she wouldn't do to help the woman she considers a friend.

Ander Brookstone: Syrress met the Twin Adder mage by chance, at the Conjurer's Guild in Gridania, when he was escorting his sister Lina to the guild for training. The man's natural pull on the aether around him caused a mild disturbance for the new students, thus prompting conversation between the two. Syrress has found the man to be rather interesting, offering to help him in his quest for further knowledge about the Twelveswood. She is already a devout fan of his mother's baking talents, granted the opportunity to sample her creations when delivering some of her personal texts to Ander. After recent talks of carrots and possible reactions, the two are perhaps something more than just friends.

Keaira Twinning: Newly appointed Lieutenant of the 81st Foreign Levy, Keaira, or Twinning, as referred to by many, has been one Syr has had the chance to learn more of in the recent moon. She believes the woman to be a prime example of what a leader should be, her open fondness and care for those she leads is more than apparent to any, given the chance to speak with her in length. She has proven herself more than capable on the fields of battle, though that alone does not make one a great leader. Slowly, but surely, Syr is learning what else the woman has with in her. Her talks with the White Mage have been enjoyed greatly, and Syrress looks forward to more of them in the future.

Zarek Earthshaker: Her savior, of sorts. The large Au Ra was the first member of the 81st she had the good fortune of meeting, in a time of need no doubt, when she was fleeing the deserts of Thanalan. Zarek offered his aid to her, as well as a potential home in La Noscea, with his Free Company. She is forever greatful for the man of few words who helped her in her time of need. Though she's seen little of him as the suns have passed, her regards for the man hold true none the less.

Enemies

: Xania Blacke

: The Garlean Empire
