Garen has sandy brown hair, usually cut short, and pale green eyes set against naturally tanned skin. He resembles a heavily built individual of the sands.
Physique & Markings
Garen is a well-built individual, with a body designed for war. He has two visible scars on his face, one over his right eye and another on his left cheek. When bare-chested, he has multiple scars - the most notable is a circular, pale scar right over his heart. The upper nape on his back has a jet-black, burned brand familiar to those who study the Battle of Carteneau and the disappearance of the Warriors of Light.

Garen attempts to remain clean, but mostly at the insistence of his wife. It is not uncommon for him to go upwards of a week or more without bathing, and while he attempts to keep himself smelling good, it is often overpowered by the scent of blood and steel. At the minimum he regularly tends his teeth and hair...
Personality
Psychological Profile
Garen is an often boisterous, often cheerful force of energy and nature. He throws himself into whatever he must do with glee and reckless abandon. He harbors something of a martyr complex and won't hesitate to dive in front of devastating blows to save his allies, but his from-the-front mindset and zeal of life does its best to win over those around him.
Voice
Garen is loud and emphatic, sucking the air out of the room and into his lungs upon entry. His voice settles approximately in the baritone region and is deep while not being too overpowering, save for its volume. (For the interested, he sounds just a bit deeper than Christopher Sabat's depiction of All Might from the anime My Hero Academia.)
Philosophy & Mannerisms
Garen doesn't put a lot of faith in philosophy or religion. He has lived his life at the edge of a sword's blade and that doesn't leave a lot for philosophising. While he fights with the best wishes of the realm in mind, and attempts to do good rather than harm, he isn't the type to think deeply about actions or hesitate beyond a few moments.

The Power to Transcend Words (unknown): As most Echo-Users do, Garen can understand every language. However, Garen is unaware of this. As far as he's concerned, since he returned from the Carteneau Plains everyone has spoken the same language. He is similarly unaware of his own ability to adjust his tongue to fluently speak any language he encounters. When told such, he is likely to dismiss the explanation as nonsense.
Combat Abilities
The Power to Transcend Mortality: This advanced Echo ability grants Garen an unreal resistance to damage, ensuring that it will take that much longer for him to be downed in combat.
Instinctual Combat: A life of battle has left Garen skilled in the arts of war, and whether on a battlefield or in an arena, he acts with sharpened instincts. This reduces his reaction time in battle to nearly zero, ensuring he's fast enough to at least interact in the worst situations.
The Inner Beast: Having possession of a Soulstone, Garen is capable of interacting with the beast within a warrior's soul. He can harness this to ignore the damage from blows further (though it doesn't restore the wounds) and strike with incredible force.
Weakness - Dented Iron: Garen has experienced enough battle to wear through multiple lifetimes. He has collected an extensive amount of scars and breaks in his body, and recent battle has furthered his damage. His body is not in the best shape of his life, and he must wear a support armor designed by his wife and one of his free company members to fight at maximum strength.
OOC Note
Garen, as with most of the members of Fireborn, occasionally uses a house-built combat system set up within the guild. This system is used to create a tabletop-style experience for people within the game. If interested, please inquire!

Sixth Astral Era
Childhood
Born to Amalie Ashe, the Eminence of Steel on the Bloodsands, Garen learned early that his life lay in the battlefield. He grew up among the children of the Bloodsands, and they all took after their parents in learning the arts of war. Garen most of all was strong and resilient, which lead him to be a defender in team-based exhibitions and a difficult opponent in single combat. His mother insisted he wasn't an idiot and taught him how to read and write, but these skills were never ones he took exceptionally well. Still, imbued with a soul that wished to help, and a body that could, he took a militaristic path out of the Bloodsands, following the Bull of Ala Mhigo out of the pits and becoming a founding member of the Immortal Flames. Shortly thereafter, Garen stumbled upon Liliana Belnades, a young conjurer with an inquisitive attitude and a quick tongue. The two wrapped each other in a whirlwind romance of battle and bravery that was cut short on the fields of Carteneau. Liliana was injured on an escape transport, whereas Garen was at ground zero when Dalamud exploded and seemingly was gone when the field cleared. However, this is far from the end of that tale...

In Recent Times
Moving Forward
Garen has fought, and fought, and fought again and again for that which he holds dear. He has seen worlds most could not dream of, and fought for their salvation as well. However, time catches us all, and even those with supernatural durability cannot last forever. What was at first a wonderful but somewhat overzealous gift from his wife has become a reality of his day-to-day adventuring. Thanks to a collection of injuries, Garen needs to use the Allagan Support Armor to function in combat at full strength. Without it, he can continue to fight and apply his strength and resilience, but his speed takes a significant hit. He's not quite ready to retire yet, though...

✝✔ - Amalie Ashe - Eminence of Steel, Mother. A towering figure of a woman who left Ala Mhigo a few years before the begin of the Garlean assault. She made herself a name in the Bloodsands swiftly, and then just as swiftly retired to raise a child. Garen never knew his father, but learned that he was a fellow Ala Mhigan who died shortly after his conception. A strong-willed and intelligent woman who knew how to ply her trade of strength and her sharpness of wit, and while Garen was never quite as bright as her he took her training to heart. He never suffered for love, tough or not, and it was never the case that a single mother household penalized him in any way. She passed on in the Seventh Umbral Calamity, giving her life for the land she had raised her son in.

ღ♦✔ - Liliana Stone - Beyond Time Itself. Garen and Liliana (Lily) have endured the hells of war together. Before the Calamity, they were an innocently naive and flirtatious couple, but afterwards they had become so much more. First lovers who crossed seas of time to find each other, then parents facing off against the tremendous forces of the world, then a married couple taking their own names and cutting their own paths through fate. While the two seem incompatible at first - one, an enormous hunk of meat and strength, the other a fount of magical force and intelligence - they compensate well for the others flaws and have found beauty and love in their opposites. They have one child together...

✔ - Roysia Stone - The Firstborn Daughter. Roysia was born with the incredible power of the Echo, a result from Liliana's own acquisition of the power while pregnant with her. She seemed very much a child with a great destiny, and Garen has been absolutely smitten with her since the day she was born. Garen has an incredible weak spot for his daughter, and no force in the world - not even Liliana - can spur him to action much like her danger. Recently she returned much older than she was before, to the point that it seems unusual that she'd be the child of the two. Yet, she is still her father's daughter to her very blood, and there is not a thing in the world Garen would not do for his little girl.

♦✔ - Z'attana Mitnu, now Attana Stone - Destiny has a strange way of placing someone where they need to be at the time they're needed. So it was with the Miqo'te girl who needed to learn how to fight, and the swordsman who taught her the path. Atty, as she came to be known, never really stuck with the art of the sword, but their meeting in the Bloodsands started a trusted friendship that endures to this day. He assisted with training her after she lost her sight, and the woman disappeared with the rest of the family during the start of the Second Garlean War. When they returned, Atty had at some point taken the family name, effectively making her the adopted aunt of Roysia and sister to Liliana and Garen.

♦✔ - Fireborn - Risen From the Ashes. This Free Company was established shortly after the raid on the Praetorium and the battle against the Ultima Weapon. With a child on the way, Garen found himself thinking of his future and his place in it. It just so happened that he met the right people with the right ideas that would encourage him into signing the paperwork to start a company of soldiers and saints from all walks of life. Experienced and eager warriors were his intent, and he had only one goal - none should live through what we have. We have become stronger for it, and we use that strength to ensure peace in our future. While the company's count and influence has waxed and waned in the years, it remains his primary method of influencing the world around him, and will probably remain his own until his passing. Strangely enough, on his trips to the First he found an organization of the same name and purpose there... but, that's impossible... right?

The Lavender Beds: 20% - This is where Garen's home base, the Kindled Hearth is. Generally he rests here.
Ul'dah: 10% - His home city. If he stays in any city, he stays here.
Rhalgr's Reach: 10% - The home of his heritage, and a common place to find recruits and equipment.
In the Field: 60% - Garen prefers to work, and work is out in the field. Any open area could be his playground.

Fireborn: His free company. Garen leads the adventurers of the company with zeal and zest. This is his primary affiliation.
The Immortal Flames: Garen is a second-lieutenant in the Flames, which grants him some autonomy. He generally doesn't wield his influence in the Flames, and mostly serves as a reserve Warrior of Light for Primal-related situations.
IC Inventory
Garen tends to carry a diverse but standardized set of equipment. What follows is generally obvious to see and can be addressed as one wishes.
Coinpurse (Impossible): Garen doesn't appear to carry a coinpurse, yet he can summon gil as he needs. Perhaps it's part of his armor?
Allagan Armor Mark VI: A blue and white suit of technologically-advanced armor. As of this point, Garen spends most of his time within this armor. The armor glows softly when activated fully, giving off a light-blue aura. The armor contains various functions, including jump jets to allow him to leap higher and further, a series of six daggers along the waist, two shortswords at the back, and a chain within the right arm that Garen can use to strike at a distance or entangle his foes. It also has myomer muscle to enhance his strength, and an imperceptible barrier around the body to lightly blunt all blows incoming upon Garen. Said barrier can be transferred to his left arm to create a hexagonal-layered shield that is visible to the naked eye, which will sustain a measured amount of damage before shattering. As long as its power cells hold out, Garen has access to most of its functions. If its power is disabled or otherwise runs out, Garen is encumbered by the equipment until he removes the breastplate and arms.
Burn the Witch: A peculiar gunblade whose base design was built by Nero tol Scaeva and then disseminated upon Eorzean adventurers, Burn the Witch is a heavily customized variant that improves upon the fantastic base of the Scaevan Magitek Gunblade. The revolver cartridge is slightly raised and the barrels are opened and exposed on either side, allowing Garen to reload a single cartridge on either end as the six barrels rotate. The body design of the weapon is such that it can actually fire bullets, and its double-trigger design can either "misfire" on command to vibrate the gunblade as a standard Gunnhildr's Blade or be fired as a long rifle in a ranged attack. As is standard for the equipment, its blade is generally shorter than other gunblades and only occupies the top third of the weapon, and it can fold into a stored form. When stored, Garen keeps the weapon magnetically attached to his left arm, which prevents the shield from deploying as its generators are covered.
Unnamed Axe-Sword: A strange weapon usually kept in a bearded greataxe configuration, Garen's axe is a gift by the Garlean-turned-adventurer, Aralia Saranah. While most comfortable with the technological marvel that is the axe, sometimes Garen requires stronger defenses than just rage. Within seconds, the axe's blade can fold down the shaft of the weapon, revealing layers of metal that slide upwards and create a nearly-smooth cutting surface that is six and a half feet long from tip of bladed pommel to tip of sword. This new configuration more resembles a reinforced greatsword with a guard over the hands, and if fighting defensively Garen can use the large sword over the smaller bodied axe. If it leaves his hands, the weapon will remain in its last form. It seems stable in both. This is virtually always magnetized to his back. The magnets on the back do not project anything and as such he is not hampered with this weapon sheathed. If he uses this weapon, he'll often move Burn the Witch to his back instead.
