Character

General

Appearance

One might argue that the most striking of Graeham's features is his piercing icy blue eyes, complimented rather well by his sun-kissed skin and disheveled dark blonde hair. Some would describe him as classically handsome due to the lad boasting strong facial features, a clean shaven jaw and a nose that is nicely proportioned. His physique has a decent amount of muscle definition and his limbs appear to be well honed yet overall he seems to be better built for feats of agility than brute strength. More often than not he is clad in comfortable attire often associated with those hailing from La Noscea. He is fairly tall for a Midlander, though he is by no means a giant. One could tell at a glance that despite his sharp features he is not yet a fully fledged adult - a correct estimate putting him in his late teens.

Personality

The youth appears to be well spoken and polite, rarely allowing his emotions to get the better of him. He seems to prefer to try and find a peaceful resolution to a problem when possible, even when his life is clearly endangered. He seems to be a lot less prone to diplomacy if the lives of his allies are at risk, however. Overall he seems like the trustworthy sort though despite his willingness to aid those who require his aid he often appears reluctant to remain in any given location for any major length of time. Although somewhat guarded at first - especially regarding the subject of his family - he tends to speak passionately about his hobbies, inviting those he comes to trust to sit back and relax as he catches and cooks some fish for them. He also appears to be rather flirtatious around both men and women who pique his interest. He is, however, capable of holding his tongue if he feels such an approach would be unwise.

Combat

General

Although in favour of trying to reason with his opponents in order to avoid violence, if such an approach is not an option then Graeham is known to make use of sword and shield to strike at his enemies with the intention of gradually wearing them down or putting and end to whatever threat they present. He is by no means a legendary combatant but it would not be unfair to claim that he can hold his own in a fight if provoked.

Tendencies

Likes

  • He has a fondness for seafood, especially fish.
  • History fascinates him, especially if it involves ancient ruins or tales of past triumphs over vicious beasts.
  • Individuals with a friendly disposition and good manners seem to be something Graeham appreciates deeply.
  • Beaches, particularly the stretch near Costa del Sol.
  • Loyalty. It's a trait he deeply admires in a friend or ally.

Dislikes

  • Excessive reliance and use of alcohol.
  • Dishonest, aggressive and cowardly individuals.
  • Being treated like a child.
  • Cold weather.
  • Blemishes to his appearance.

Hobbies/Talents

  • He's a keen fisherman and is often eager to indulge in a spot of fishing during his travels.
  • Graeham's physique lends itself to athletic pursuits. He's a swift and effective runner, swimmer and climber.
  • He has taken to wielding a sword and shield in recent months.
  • He can be a very reasonable and persuasive individual - often acting as the voice of reason to cool tensions between others.

Other

  • Graeham has a tendency to be very formal and occasionally theatrical in his dealings with others. On the other hand, those who get to know him well enough can get an excellent view of his more playful side.
  • He can be rather vain, though never in a malicious manner. A wound to his face, however, will quite literally drive him berserk.
  • The youth is capable of being surprisingly pragmatic. He is also not afraid to cut his losses or put himself in danger if he feels it is for the greater benefit of his cause.
  • He has quite the ruthless streak if pushed too far, especially if those he cares for are put in danger.

Relationships

Family

Lydia goe Baelthar - Although far from being common knowledge it is no lie that Graeham's mother is none other than Lydia wir Baelthar; a Garlean scientist known for her ruthless streak and controversial research into the Garlean race's inability to wield magic. She once attempted to defect from Garlemald and carve out a simple life for herself within Eorzea. Yet years of abuse based on her heritage and a desire to expand her influence caused her to slink back into her old ways and she left everything behind - including her son - shortly after the Calamity. She has since hired many an agent to track down Graeham and bring him to her unharmed.

Tristain Ridgefield - A particularly cocksure sailor and ex-pirate that has fathered many a bastard during his time away from his ship. He briefly settled down in an attempt to turn over a new leaf after becoming enthralled by Lydia's seductive ways. After giving her a son, however, he soon grew bored and left one night never to return. Graeham sought to take up his father's surname to better disguise his true heritage - with the hope that one day it might serve to lure the man back to pay the lad a visit.

Lucius quo Baelthar - Brother to Lydia and uncle to Graeham. He is a decorated soldier in Garlemald's armed forces with a knack for piloting magitek. He disapproves of his sister's scheming and obsession with her research.

Friends

Caelum Eligar - A fellow Garlean half-breed that happened to cross paths with Graeham. The pair quickly hit it off and bonded over their shared heritage and experiences. As time passed they became lovers - and after a near death experience the pair decided to push ahead and make their relationship official within the Sanctum of the Twelve.

Reima Awen - A young woman that Graeham encountered in La Noscea. He offered to give her a tour of the immediate region. Circumstance saw them reunited once more and the pair quite quickly became good friends. Graeham sees Reima as a gentle, kind soul and he often strives to do all he can to protect her perceived innocence.

Arcian Martell - Encountered alongside Reima, Arcian was also present when Graeham offered a tour of the remnants of Nym. The pair initially hit it off fairly well...at least until Graeham's heritage was revealed. After that the pair endured an uneasy relationship; often finding themselves tense around each other. Yet as time passed - and through mutual friendships - the pair came to like and even respect one another.

Eliane Dufresne - Graeham met Lady Dufresne not long after travelling to Ishgard on diplomatic business. Sharing many interests and a mutual love of tea they quite quickly became friends - and Graeham readily offered his services to secure additional contracts for Eliane's business, 'The Bellworks'. The pair frequently meet up to discuss business and indulge in tea, cakes and the latest political affairs.

Acquaintances

Edda Eglantine - The pair met by sheer chance in Limsa Lominsa on two separate occasions. Although neither knows much about the other at present; Graeham considers Edda to be a woman of much refinement and grace.

History/Timeline

Details surrounding Graeham's early life are scarce, though it is known that he arrived in Limsa Lominsa two years after Dalamud fell. He began renting a room at one of Limsa's many inns before securing himself a small apartment near the docks. Feeling the urge to wander he travelled to Gridania and offered his aid to the Harbingers of Dawn. He served their cause for a good few months before returning to the road. More recently he has made his way to Coerthas seeking to strengthen relations between the Ishgardians and the rest of Eorzea.

Persistent rumours have also surfaced claiming that he put an end to a dispute over territory between a small band of miqo'te and settlers within La Noscea. Despite hostility on both sides he managed to secure a peaceful arrangement that prevented any bloodshed. This has been suggested as being the reason as to why he has been allowed to act as a diplomat despite his youth.

For a time the youth offered his services to Brynhilde Wulf and her allies. The exact reasoning for this is unknown yet it is said that he stood at their side for a good few months. After a betrayal from within and a near death experience the half-breed saw fit to distance himself from their cause and ultimately focus his efforts almost exclusively upon his duties as a diplomat. He has since used his position to aid Lady Eliane Dufresne in regards to finding new contracts to aid her business, 'The Bellworks'.
