Basic Information

K'aila is a Seeker of the Sun who despises Seeker culture with a passion. She was born outside of tribal life, to two mothers who fled their tribe after one of them was claimed against her wishes by the tribe's Nunh. Raised in Aleport, the young Miqo'te fell in with a group of thieves and became one of the most notorious and uncatchable burglars in Aleport before getting herself clean and enlisting in the Maelstrom Navy. After several years of service, she was honorably discharged and left to find a new way of life. Usually charming and quick-witted, this wily Seeker's free spirit can never be tamed.

Appearance & Personality

Appearance

Height: 153 cmHair: Dark Brown, Blonde fringe
Weight: ~65 KgEyes: Sea Blue
Build: MuscularComplexion: Caramel
Features:

K'aila's most notable feature is her build. Unlike the typical 'lithe and thin' Miqo'te stereotype, K'aila has thick arm muscles and every muscle in her body is trained and toned to peak physical conditon. This leaves her as quite an oddity as most people who find the typical Miqo'te attractive can be rather offput by her muscular form. She has a tattoo of swirling waves curling across her right shoulder and down the bicep. Her torso is covered in small healed scars, with a long thick scar running diagonally down the length of her back, from shoulder to hip. K'aila wears a silver earring in each ear as well as a silver ring through her left nostril.

Clothing Style: K'aila has always been a fan of practical clothing over garish garb, but she's found quite a niche in enjoying clothing that mixes the two. She prefers to wear coats or other clothing with plentiful pockets when out and about, but is a fan of chestwraps that only cover her upper torso, to allow her to show off the muscles she's so proud of. No matter what else she's wearing, or even if she's not wearing anything else at all, K'aila will never be seen without her worn-out fingerless leather gloves. She can also be seen commonly wearing a brown leather collar and silver bracelet around her wrist.

Personality

K'aila has always had a roguish charm about her and likes to see herself as the daring scoundrel who can sweep a woman off her feet with as much as a wink. She's prone to flirting with any woman she meets, though is quick to step back and pull herself in line when she finds someone isn't interested or is otherwise unavailable. Behind her flirty, charming exterior, K'aila harbors a nurturing and caring side usually only seen by those who work their way past her barriers and show themselves trustworthy enough to see her more tender side.

With her tender, caring side, also comes K'aila's insecurities and secret fears she keeps hidden inside herself. The reason she flirts and always tries to tempt women to her bed is because K'aila is terrified of sleeping alone due to the nightmares of her abandonment and most recently, of being buried alive during a recent trip to Coerthas. She always attempts to put on a brave face, no matter how hurt or upset she feels inside.

Friends

  Fenrir Wolfsong () - Fenrir
Fenrir is one of the people K'aila holds closest. She knew from the start that her and the Keeper would be fast friends, as they found kindred spirits in each other, having known each other from working with the Machinists in the Skysteel Manufactory, she ended up coming across Fenrir once more in the Mist, and through a silver tongue, Fenrir managed to convince K'aila to stay with her.

Yuki is a mutual friend through Fenrir, although the two don't know each other very well, K'aila likes the Raen well enough.
  Shayla Maldorf (  ♥  ●) - Shayla / Shay
Shayla and K'aila's meeting was an odd one, involving Shayla buying K'aila during a Date Auction held by the Kindred. This one event led to the forming of a powerful connection, the two becoming very close and intimate lovers. Even still, they hold each other in close regard, and K'aila's thoughts have recently been turning to the possibility of the feelings she holds for Shayla being more than those of a non-committed lover.
  Illyriel Otonashi (  ●) - Illyriel / Illy
Illyriel and K'aila had a rocky start to their friendship after meeting on a caravan mission to Ishgard where K'aila was traumatised by an avalanche accident. The Raen tried to alleviate K'aila's injured mind but during the trip back K'aila had a mental break and Illyriel could do nothing to help, relying on the aid of others to come rescue the deranged Miqo'te. After this event, the two of them slowly mended the bond after getting unexpectedly and unwantedly familiar with each other, becoming decently close.
  Nailah Quill (  ♥  ●) - Nailah
Nailah is K'aila's boss at the Kindred Free Company, and K'aila maintains a healthy respect for the woman for both the job she does and the things she's endured. From the day she first worked there, the Miqo'te always had a little bit of a crush of the woman, but keeps her opinions reigned in and doesn't plan to act on them considering Nailah's polite refusals in past.
   Alia Naveleal (  ●) - Alia / Legs
Alia has been a friend of K'aila's since she joined the Kindred. The pair always teased each other and pushed each other to be stronger, and had a friendly rivalry. Nowadays the relationship is more relaxed and they don't speak often, but tend to keep an eye on one another.

Rumors

Common Rumors - Easily overheard. Use these freely!

  • "She flirts with every woman who comes in here. And most of them go back to her room with her! It's astounding. But don't even -ask- about the disgusting state of her bedsheets." ~ Kindred Estate Maidservant

Uncommon Rumors - A little more difficult to hear.

  • "Bronze skin and dark moppish hair? Sounds a lot like who they thought The Luckyfoot was. Damn burglar stole millions of gil in assets from merchants around these parts. I sure hope that thievin' cur is gone for good." ~Aleport Merchant

Player Character Opinions - Feel free to add rumors of your own!

  • "K'aila is a tough, strong woman. Pretty flirtatious, but hey, who doesn't like the best thing in the world? She's only out for women though, so don't try if you're male. And she's more than just a floozy, she cares a lot for all of us Kindred, and she helped me a lot by listening and giving advice. I'm thankful for her help. But dear Althyk, she can be stubborn, and needs to be tied down in the infirmary when she's injured, because she will go out to keep helping people even if it hurts herself." - Mauh'a Relanah
  • "She has a knack for getting herself hurt and absolutely no regard for her own well-being. Her intentions are good, though, but I swear, if she escapes the infirmary one more time while she's meant to rest, I'm going to knock her out myself." - Illyriel Otonashi
  • "She's a warrior, no doubt about that, but she's definitely caring. She'd kill for those she cares about. She'd die for them. A lot of people say that, but... I don't think many people embody this trait like she does. It's... something else." - Hayzell Darwall
  • "She's super nice! She tries too hard sometimes. And she worries a lot. But, she's big and tough, and doesn't want anyone to kn- Gah! You didn't hear me say that! She doesn't worry too much, she's just big and tough!" - Yuki Ittetsu
  • K'aila's much stronger than she thinks she is. There's few people who can throw me on my ass and she's one of them...She owes me a rematch. Fenrir Wolfsong
  • "Kaila is a fine marksman and wonderful friend. I would not trade her for the world." Okhi Lyehga

History & Background

K'aila was born as the product of unrequited affection from a tribal Nunh to her mother, who had no desire to be with the man. After experiencing the lengths he was willing to go to in order to get what he wanted, K'aila's mother and her lover fled their tribe to live in Aleport amongst the other races. K'aila was born in the port town and raised by her two mothers, and never questioned why she had two mothers whilst other children had a mother and a father. From a young age, she was constantly getting in trouble for starting fights with other local children when she saw them picking on someone, always being dragged off them as she pummeled at the perpetrators with her fists or a stick when one was on hand.

As she reached her adolescent years, K'aila became naturally adept at running and climbing, even more so than a normal Miqo'te of her age. One day, she was approached with an offer by an Elezen man in a suit. Chance. He said he needed a runner, and that he'd pay in more gil than the young K'aila had ever seen. Not knowing what she was in for, K'aila agreed and soon was stealing into warehouses and homes under the dark of night and escaping with stolen valuables before anyone could catch her. Earning herself a reputation as the uncatchable 'Luckyfoot', she worked her trade, stealing and running, for several years until she started to have a change of heart. Having spent her teenage years as a thief, she saw the underbelly of society and her best friends here her heistmates, a man with a penchant for killing cleanly, and a whore who acted as an older sister to K'aila as well as the team's 'diversion'. The end of her thieving days came suddenly when during one job, K'aila decided to return the marked items rather than give them to her employer, and was punished for her betrayal. Beaten within an inch of her life, she would have been left for dead if not for her former heistmates taking her to get treatment to save her.

After recovering from her beating, K'aila knew she had to get out of that life. She went to the authorities and turned her former allies and friends in. The safe house was raided and only one out of the three were caught, K'aila's employer being one of the ones who escaped. After this, she decided to try and make herself an honest living, enlisting in the Maelstrom Navy to try and earn back the respect of her mothers and of herself. She served diligently and proved herself to be a capable soldier both in frontline combat and as a combat strategist. Over her years of service, K'aila rose to the rank of Storm Sergeant 1st Class and was given honors for Selfless Sacrifice when she threw herself in the way of a comrade to take a blow meant for them.

This injury was heavy, resulting in most of K'aila's back becoming a large gash which took the efforts of many healers and a lot of luck to heal properly. Due to the severity of her wound, K'aila was informed she'd likely never so much as run again, let alone take up arms. But this was unacceptable for the Miqo'te, who had come to love the thrill of combat as well as the opportunity to defend her loved ones and comrades from all that would threaten them. It took months of intense rehabilitation training to re-train her body, and despite stumbling and falling many times, K'aila eventually worked her way back to full physical fitness and was able to resume her duties as strong as ever.

K'aila eventually began to grow bored with her consistent routine, and resigned from the Maelstrom Navy to seek out a new way of life as a sellsword. She worked for a few Free Companies, all of which eventually discharged her for different reasons, until she found the Kindred. A Company that found her combat skills useful, and where most found her personality charming and enjoyable rather than off-putting and disingenuous. After experiencing several heartbreaks and serious injuries, as well as hunting down Chance and putting her thieving past behind her, K'aila felt as though she had found the place she belonged. Until tragedy struck and the Kindred went bankrupt. With no order and their home foreclosed on, she struggles alongside the other remnants to rebuild what they have lost.
