Things That Are

The conjurer found it easy to keep busy now that she was inducted into a free company but also still meeting the demands as one of the Grindstone's constant healers with new allies and a lover of several moons but this newfound happiness would soon come to an end, as darkness festered beneath the boughs of Gridania and her beloved Shroud. One night, she awoke to the sound of voices calling out for help in apparent agony and at once considered them to be the elementals desiring help; the idea was considered far fetched by those she confided in since her current residence was Ul'dah and felt it difficult even for someone of her skill to still have such intimate bond with her home. Despite her promise to be wary, she continued to intently listen after their demands with the idea of not informing anyone - she didn't wish to burden her loved ones as they were, too, trapped with more important dilemmas and began to distance herself.

Those voices only grew more persistent within each passing sun and it slowly took a toll on the hearer's conscious, feeling trapped between their demands and those considered close friends, causing her to snap at them in midst conversation and voicing her opinion even if it was rude or downright cruel. She dearly wanted to confess to her lover of these recent troubles after a particularly violent discussion she had with several people but was first informed of his possible affections for another first, causing her depression to flourish and often flee the city to stay within the abusive company of these mysterious voices. Eventually her drastic behavior caught the attention of many and they attempted to help Lottie, who was still refusing their company in fear of bringing harm to them, by offering calming but illegal substances like milkweed to help her rest without being plagued with nightmares. For every night after she would enjoy a long, undisturbed slumber but could never consider herself happy despite saying otherwise, knowing that many she felt respect for or was close to considered her crazed and being constantly denied company by a distant lover.

Yet he would keep his promise in escorting her to the ball, making sure that she was properly medicated beforehand as there would be many familiar faces as well as important people who influenced the city of Ul'dah. Despite the dancing, food, music, and the beautiful dress that was tailored to her - she found the night disappointing with his constant disappearance and felt lonely when she spent a good portion of the evening glancing at those who had fun below, surrounded by their loved ones. The self inflicted feeling of sorrow was briefly recovered when finally asked to share a romantic dance but such content was fragile and broke by the end of her evening. After sharing intentions of improving herself by throwing aside her reclusive nature for good, her lover's guilt had weighed too heavily on his young, conflicted shoulders and finally confessed that he had shown desire and intends to accept an invitation to have a romantic tryst with her Arbiter and elezen lover. Devastated and heartbroken, she fled from his side without a word but tears in her eyes and returned to her room for the rest of that evening.

Once morning arrived Lottie would pack all of her belongings and bid farewell to those who took care of her recent lover before returning to Gridania. Even though the voices had returned to influence her judgement and still feeling the raw rejection weigh her heart, she somehow found the determination to find the whispered origin of the sickness that was slowly taking control of the forest and its inhabitants. It was then she would find a portal leading to a place she was told had disappeared for hundreds of years without an explanation as to why; the voices explained to her that they were not the elementals but rather the white mages who sacrificed themselves to keep the Lord of Nightmares at bay. They wanted to be free. Needed someone in their place. Someone sensitive to their influence. Someone who didn't want to return. Betrayed and foolish with grief, constantly fueled by their hurtful and constant badgering, she walked into the portal with the desire to put an end to the curse affecting the Shroud and secretly hopes that it would cost her life.

Relationships

Her childhood friend. Though they've been close throughout the years and even find themselves side by side as they traveled to Ul'dah, it has been difficult to close the bridge that stretches between them because of his two year disappearance and refusal to speak much about it. Recently he took the chance of telling her said reasons at long last but it only resulted in her despair .. as of now, they're not speaking to each other. They haven't spoken in moons but she still wrote him a farewell letter, apologising and sharing her daydream of what would come to pass should things have occurred differently.

One of Lottie's bodyguards. She came across him during a shopping trip in Camp Drybone, interested enough in his rugged appearance and visible scars to strike a conversation with him. It is undecided whether she felt pity for the young man because of his less fortunate upbringing or if it was the witty yet warm banter he oft challenged the healer with whilst wearing the most attractive smirk but whatever the case, she had decided to hire him that same day. Growing close to him was quite easy to the healer despite coming from a different lifestyle though sometimes ignorant to the fact he cannot perform things she may consider easy, such as reading or writing, sometimes presenting her in an arrogant light and accidentally offending him. Knowing he would have tried to stop her, she sent him a letter just a few hours before disappearing into the Shroud, forced to mull over the fact that during their time together when her lover would be neglectful - she grew feelings for him.

Lottie's best friend. They first met at the Grindstone and shared the same qualities when it came to conflict and preserving peace, finding herself often having quiet discussions with him whenever he found the time to volunteer. Since then they grew close even when they were experiencing changes to their flighty personalities and found strength within each other to pursue their dreams and desires. Though I'sen grew strong and more confident during the remaining days of their friendship, Lottie still was overprotective to the point of becoming confrontational to any who desired to cause him strife. He was the last person to see her before disappearing and desperately tried to stop her; despite feeling guilty for leaving him behind without as so much as a goodbye she was still confident that he would be surrounded by loved ones and his personality would continue to grow. She promised him to return if it was possible before she fled into the portal with a conflicted expression on her face, wondering if she had just lied to him.
