Name Etimology

His given name "Raeventiel" is a play on the feminine name "Raevyn" which means "Raven". Oddly enough origins of Raeventiel’s name don’t just stop there. While I initially desired a name to be just as dark and mysterious as my character, I soon learned that his name Raeventiel sounds suspiciously like the Norwegian phrase “Reven till” which is loosely translated: “As a fox” or “Of a Fox”.

Nicknames

Raeventiel dons a few nicknames that hail from his heydays as a bounty hunter. His professional bounty hunting alias was the "Mad Hound". Eventually his companions saw him less like a "hound" and more like an dainty "swan" instead. While the nickname "Mad Swan" has a bit of a ring to it, Raeventiel honestly despise that nickname is quick to correct those who call him that either with words or force.

History

General Background

Raeventiel is the second son of a lesser noble house in Ishgard. In his youth, he was raised by his grand-uncle Gideloix Beaudonet along with his twin brother Morrigan after the death of his mother and father. Life in Ishgard was a difficult one but also a happy one. Raeventiel lived a rather sheltered life before finally venturing out of Ishgard when he reached the age of manhood.

He attended Saint Reymanaud Academy for a time alongside his brother but expressed to his grand-sire that he would rather explore the world than deal with the arrogance of the clergy. Morrigan eventually followed suit to leave the academy for the Temple Knights while Raeventiel joined the ranks of many adventurers who had their eyes set on gold and riches.

For a time Raeventiel lingered in Gridania studying the flora and fauna there before eventually packing his bags for Limsa Lominsa and Ul'dah. 

Early Childhood'

Life in Ul'dah

As one can suspect, Raeventiel is an adventurous young man with a passion for learning. His journeys to the other city-states exposed him to a life free from the Dravanian conflict and free from the threat of the clergy. He was able to find himself out there in the world and came to realize that not all that glitters is gold. His life in Ul'dah started off rather rocky considering that the Brass Blades took an unsavory interest in the Ishgardian nobleman. Eventually, Raeventiel managed free himself of the Blades's constant harassment by joining the Arrzaneth Ossuary. Raeventiel always possessed a laden talent for magic and rose up quickly in their ranks to become one of their high magisters. The Brass Blades didn't dare harass the Elezen after that in fear that he would make good on his promise to "roast them alive."

Nevertheless, Raeventiel's adventures in Ul'dah weren't all so harrowing and some where even quite thrilling. Raeventiel quickly begun to learn that the people of Ul'dah are quite "passionate" behind closed doors and made money on the side as a "gentlemen of hire" for wealthy clients interested in spending a night or two with an Ishgardian lover. While this was nothing more than a side gig on his part, Raeventiel realized that he quite enjoyed the arduous act of lovemaking a little bit more than he enjoyed adventuring. Raeventiel kept a memoir of his sexual encounters and tried to keep record of every man or woman he met during his time in Ul'dah. He assures himself it was just for the sake of record-keeping but it's something a little more devious than that.

♥ Eauteaux Beaudonet [NPC] - Ser Eauteaux Carudas Beaudonet is a former Temple Knight of high regard and the brother of Vilikiss. He is Raeventiel's grand-uncle and one of the main benefactors behind the Marilou Foundation, Raeventiel's charity. The Beaudonets weren't always in good standing with those of the noble houses. In truth, they're a lesser house hailing from Brume that finally reached the tall steeples of the Pillars. It's because of Ser Eauteaux's illustrious career that the Beaudonets finally reached the esteem and fame that were destined for. However, Eauteaux likes to keep his grand-nephews and family alike humble and thankful for their many blessings by offering their aid to the poor. He is beloved by Raeventiel.

● Marilou Beaudonet [NPC] - Raeventiel barely knows anything about his mother other than her name and legendary beauty. It's said that Marilou was a wandering merchant of low-birth who eventually befriended and married his father. His mother never played much of a role in his life considering she left him and his brother behind after their birth. No one knows why Marilou suddenly left the Beaudonet household but Raeventiel honestly still holds his mother in high regards.

♥ Morrigan Beaudonet - One of the pivotal figures from his childhood is none other than his twin brother, Morrigan. Without Morrigan, Raeventiel would’ve surely ended up dead. Despite their father playing a big role in Raeventiel’s coming to age, it was Morrigan who cared for him and tried to protect him from father's wrath. Even when he was sentenced to death by the Holy See for the murder of their father, Morrigan sacrificed his own freedom and future to save Raeventiel. The twins had always been close since childhood and that closeness is what helped Raeventiel survive the earlier years of his life. It's because of that fact alone that Raeventiel literally holds nothing other than love and respect for his brother.

♥ Ranirus Crithalos - Ranirus and Raeventiel had become something akin to "brothers" as of late. At first, the pair hadn't liked each other at all due to Ranirus's terrible aggression against his free company mates of the 81st. However, that all changed once Raeventiel learned more about him. While Raeventiel certainly didn't forgive Ranirus for his transgressions against his comrades, he certainly begun to understand why the miqo'te acts as poorly as he does. Through numerous talks and several more meetings, Raeventiel has come to consider Ranirus as a brother. A very problematic and sometimes self-destructive brother but a brother nonetheless. He'll stop at nothing to protect Ranirus from the horrors that come and from the horrors of the past.
