[hide]Character
General
Rinha'li can often be seen hanging about Mealvaan's Gate in Limsa Lominsa, running errands and doing copy-work for the officials there. He also works as a scribe and copyist, doing everything from adding up sums for illiterate mariners to writing ballads on commission. He usually keeps his head down and tries his best to avoid attracting trouble -- unfortunately, Limsa Lominsa is a town with more than enough trouble to go around.
Appearance
Rinha'li is small even for a Miqo'te, short of stature and not particularly powerful of build. He has dark skin and black hair/fur, tinged with white at the tips of his ears and hair, and light green eyes. His tail was broken and reset improperly in the recent past, so it has a very distinctive permanent kink. Rinha'li suffers from chronic insomnia and thus often looks as though he has not slept in quite a while. Being up during the day has taken a toll on his eyesight, and he wears a pair of pince-nez silver spectacles. Regardless of the weather, he can usually be found wearing long heavy robes and oversized cloaks that seem to swallow him completely, as though he is trying to disappear into his clothing. Though his style of dress has not changed, the quality of his clothes has recently improved dramatically.
Behavior
Meek by nature, Rinha'li generally seeks to avoid conflict. He has a tendency to ramble and stammer when nervous, which is quite frankly almost all the time. He does not make a good first impression and often has trouble standing up for himself. He is, however, quite inquisitive -- even to the point of being nosy sometimes.
Peculiar for a Keeper, Rinha'li can often be found awake during the day and he affects the air of a Limsan intellectual, even though he is clearly not a native of the area.
Combat
General
Rinha'li is not a combatant by nature. He does not have much of a stomach for inflicting violence and though he has grown more used to weathering danger, he still does not relish fighting particularly. By now a fairly accomplished arcanist, Rinha'li's love of experimentation and initially self-taught skills have led to a rather peculiar style of casting, utilizing on-the-fly recalculations of spell geometry and unorthodox use of shielding glyphs. He is capable of summoning two carbuncles -- a traditional emerald and a peculiar black-colored one. He is quite happy to discuss his unusual carbuncle with anyone who wishes to hear. They are both equally ill-tempered and he calls them both "Skiver". Though capable of healing, his lack of medical knowledge makes him better suited to other roles. He has also been learning the art of thaumaturgy from Magister S'aerdha Tia and has proven an eager enough student, though his skills are slow to advance.
He tries his best to avoid violent conflict but also has a desire to prove himself useful, which has lead to him tagging along into situations which turn out to be quite over his head.
Relationships
Family
Rinha'li does not even like referring to himself as a "Keeper of the Moon" or admitting he has his roots in the Twelveswood, much less giving out his family name. He has no contact with his original tribe or his immediate family aand will blatantly refuse to speak of them to anyone he does not trust.
Friends
Y'lyfriel Sikah: Rin looks up to Lyfriel a great deal, as his original tutor in the art of arcanima (though their respective paths have diverged significantly). He still considers her his mentor in many ways.
S'aerdha Tia: Though Rin rarely speaks of it in any certain terms, the nature of his relationship with the magister is rather unmistakable should you ever happen to see them together. Though he might seem a peculiar match for the ostentatious thaumaturge, they have remained nearly inseparable for quite some time now.
Ralamano Nulumano: Rin and Ralamano have an unusual friendship; they seem to bring out the scholar in each other, their conversations often spiraling into outlandish speculations about the limits of arcanima. Ralamano is one of the few people that Rin has trusted with some of his darker secrets.
Atlan Oraux: This strange half-elezen boy currently lives with Rinha'li and can often be found following in his footsteps, clinging to him like a lost puppy. Rin seems extremely protective of him.
Shoshopu Shopu: Another companion in the art of arcanima, Rinha'li is quite fond of the lalafell and considers her his go-to expert on the art of carbuncle summoning. Recently, he bent his mathematical skills to her aid, helping her win back what was rightfully hers in a gambling tournament.
Lynn'wo Vahnal: You can't exactly be thrown into a Garlean prison together without bonding at least a little bit. Rinha'li is actually quite fond of Lynn'wo but finds his gregarious nature rather intimidating. Oddly, if you ask them about their shared harrowing experience, each will credit the other with saving his life.
Kikira Kira: Rinha'li has decidedly taken a shine to the young arcanist and has served as her shoulder to cry on upon more than one occasion.
Enemies
Wyra Nimh: Rin's dislike of the taciturn Moonkeeper is almost palpable, something beyond just their obviously incompatible worldviews. Clearly she reminds him of something he'd rather forget.
Ranirus Crithalos: His erratic behavior and persecution of Lynn'wo earned Rinha'li's ire and suspicion at first. Knifing him during what had otherwise been a civil conversation sealed the deal, as one might expect.
