♦ General
- (This page has recently undergone a major rework! Check it out if you want to know what has changed!)
- This overly polite and apologetic medicine-woman can often be found scuttling about making deliveries for her shop. Due to her diligent work, E'kari's Alchemist Alley has become one of the Alchemist Guild's favored subsidiaries and is frequently called upon to do business in Little Ala Mhigo as a representative of their organization.
♦ Appearance
- E'kari is a Seeker/Keeper half-breed who carries some physical traits from her mother and father. Her eyes are narrow slit-pupils, skin pale but capable of bronzing in the sun like a Seeker; though her fur is fluffy and tail is long like a Keeper.
- This miqo'te has a snow-print mane--white with undertones if black and grey--with pale blue eyes and bangle-stripes that frame her face.
- In true mage form--E'kari can usually be found in little to no armor, even when going into battle. It slows her down in preforming martial arts and also disrupts her casting to wear anything too heavy. Instead she prefers comfortable robes or her labcoat.
♦ History
- The parentage of E'yami and E'kari is a taboo matter. One that the Nuhn of the Eft ordered upon the strictest of penalty, never to be spoken of. While their mother--E'yari--was a Seeker and one of the designated breeding females to the Nuhn; their father--Sagu'a--was actually a roving Keeper who had long since left behind a subservient life with his maternal-family in the Shroud to be a traveling poet, minstrel and anthropologist. The two Miqo'te met when Sagu'a and his scholarly lalafell companion, Anabel Nack, sought a place to rest during their travels. The tribe apprehensively took the researchers in as temporary guests. In that time Sagu'a and E'yari began a secret relationship.
- When it came to light that the two had been together Sagu'a was put to death, and his body unceremoniously left to rot in the heat of the desert just outside of their territory.
- In a double blow, not only was E'yari stricken with grief, but she also discovered she was pregnant. Due to a combination of her melancholy of her lost love, the despair at what her life would be at the whims of her Nunh and complications during the birthing process--E'yari died shortly after her second kit was delivered. The last words she managed to speak before slipping away were the names of her children. Both Doman, in honor of their father who fancied the culture. Yami, meaning dark, and Hikari meaning light--though the midwives were unfamiliar with the tongue, mistaking it simply for /E/kari.
- Upon the twins' birth into the Eft--as per tradition--the clan made a ceremonial offering of their namesake to Azeyma that would determine their role in the tribe. When the flesh was melted from the bones, their appointed wise-woman had determined E'kari was to be the next shaman while E'yami's bones were an augury that she was preordained to be a great warrior.
- The Nunh was pleased by the news and demanded celebration, but found that the females of the tribe were not nearly as thrilled. Many believed that the pale-faced kits with hair of black and white were cursed; killing their mother with ill-omen. Nack took this opportunity to offer her services in raising her friends' children and providing them with education.
- The lalafell's silver tongue managed to coerce the Nunh to allow this arrangement--given he had few other options. The three were put up in a yurt close to the Nunh's own home to keep an eye on the foreigner.
- In the years that proceeded their youth, the twins were given a proper education by the professor--in between being stolen away to be taught their duties to the Eft. While Yami practiced fighting the other tribal youths, Kari was introduced to herbal medicine, burial rites and how to divinate the future with the practice of bone reading.
- Despite the twins' diligent efforts to hone their skills and fulfill thier tribal roles, they sorely lacked any sort of companionship from the other children of the Eft--having learned from their mother's to be wary of the pale-faced Seekers. Because of this, Nack took it upon herself to try and teach the girls the basic art of carbuncle summoning and passed her own Topaz and Emerald gems down to each of them.
- Demure and plagued with anxiety, E'kari was given Nicholas--Nack's Emerald carbuncle--as a therapy animal; while E'yami received Whackara--a Topaz companion who had enough spunk and energy to keep up with her. Both arcanist-pets has served the Professor faithfully since her own youth and passed without incident into the hands of their new masters.
- As the twins neared their teenage years, an odd habit of E'kari's came to light. She could often be found speaking to the streams, winds and rock-faces in the territory which the tribe found very suspicious. Some of the more superstitious members of the tribe were convinced the was speaking to the dead; the Nunh believed this was some gift from the Warden, proving his right to rule was divine.
- Knowing better than to believe any of that, Nack speculated that this was a hereditary trait, passed down from Sagu'a, who was a Hearer. Once more the professor went to the Nunh and convinced him that he should allow her to take the twins to train abroad in Gridania that they might return more powerful and capable of serving him. He agreed to the idea and within a fortnight Nack brought the girls to the Shroud.
- Once in Gridania, E'kari joined the Conjurer's Guild as a student while E'yami sought training in both lance and bow.
- Though eager to make new friends the Seeker found this was easier said than done. The high populous of Hyur and Elezen looked condescendingly upon the tribal girls. It was not out of the ordinary for the more crude classmates to inquire if her parents were cousins. This trouble fitting in was compounded by the fact she didn't seem to learn at the same rate as everyone else. E'kari would often focus on small details of things, so much so that she could not intake an entire lesson. A classroom setting did her little credit, but during her free moments she would visit the Everschade and commune with the Elementals.
- On one such visit, a strong wind blew a small branch down from the great tree; which, E'kari took and mended with magic that it might be used as a crook.
- Due to her natural affinity for the forest and her difficulty with conventional methods of learning she was taken as a personal apprentice to Master E-Sumi-Yan, a patient Padjal who specialized in the guidance of Hearers. Discovering the trick seemed to be hands-on learning, he took every opportunity to have the Seeker accompany him while he worked. E'kari improved quickly under his tutelage, able to stand as a conjurer in her own right.
- Near the end of the girl's time abroad, the Seventh Umbral Calamity struck. With her guild called to act as medics on the field, the twins soon found themselves on the heels of disaster for the duration of the event. E'kari and her classmates followed the guildmasters into the chaos, assisting those who had been wounded or fallen. E'yami acted as E'kari's personal guard as she preformed field surgeries and magical healing. The two witnessed death up close on more than one occasion, finding themselves changed by the end of it all.
- After all was said and done, the girls' respective masters deemed them both students no longer. And while this was a sweet taste, it was also made bitter by the memories of carnage that now haunted them both.
- The twins returned to their desert territory as heroines who represented their tribe with valor and courage. The Nunh held festivities long into the night. It seemed as though they'd finally been accepted, but neither seemed particularly content with staying within the territory any more--not after all they had been through. Together E'yami and E'kari traveled to the Shrine of the Warden, offering an Eft in a pyre for guidance. When the flesh had melted from the bones, Azeyma's will bid they must go--for they had more to do out in the world. E'kari shared this edict with their people and with heavy hearts, they left again to find and fulfill their duties elsewhere until the time the Warden calls for them to return.
♦ Behavior
- E'kari has a hard time learning in a conventional sense often requires an exceedingly patient teacher in order to have any real success. However once she does learn something--or is preforming a task she excels in--she is hard-pressed to be outshined.
- While still generally being good natured and apologetic, in combat E'kari is capable of being a formidable opponent. Being a conjurer she will often take the role of a healer, but her connection to the Elementals has also allowed to take a unique approach to martial arts. The Seeker will often harden a stone skin over her hands and feet while delivering blows, or using gales of wind to enhance her movement speed. She has named her self-made fighting style, "The Golem Step" which emphasizes momentum and fluidity. (Much of her techniques in form are inspired by real world Zui Quan)
- Despite her obvious shortcomings, E'kari is a very hopeful person and goes into every situation with optimism for success, even if she has failed at the task a hundred times before. Sometimes it's the hundred and first try that brings success.
