✖ PLAYER INFORMATION ✖

Medium-Heavy Roleplayer from the Eastern Timezone (EST).
When it comes to RP Romance I'm pretty hesitant beyond one of the people I'm currently dating that still plays, due to one too many incidents that have just gone pretty badly. It would take getting to know the other person pretty well OOC before I'd consider allowing things to progress that direction IC. Largely, Rai's personality currently makes her adverse to romantic and sexual overtures, though that may slowly change with RP that's going on - but it was sort of a protection method against romantic/sensual RP.

However, if you believe your character's personality clicks with Rai, please contact me privately about the possibility of moving towards a romantic involvement. You can send a message via Tumblr, the RPC's private messages, or request my Discord via either of the prior.
There must be a clear separation of IC and OOC at all times. A lot of what caused the above was due to there not being a separation of IC and OOC. That goes for more than just romance too. Rai's a pretty volatile character a lot of the time, but just because she might dislike - or even hate - your character does not mean that I as a player have those feelings for you as a player. Please don't take any of her snarkiness, underhanded tactics, or angry behaviour personally.
Personal RP Limits:
Do: Approach for RP if my RP tag in game is up, as it means I'm actively up for RP; if my RP tag isn't up and you'd like to RP, send me a tell and ask if I'm up for it - I might be able to RP pretty quick even if I'm not actively in character. I'm also up for mature content and themes (violence, sexuality, drug / alcohol use) as long as they're logical in a plot-driven encounter. Coarse and excessive language. Temporary injury and incapacitation. Temporary imprisonment.
Ask: about long-term and/or permanent injury and disfigurement. Long-term captivity or imprisonment.
Don't: ask, beg, or try and force permanent character death or rape plots.

PERSONALITY

L I K E S

Technology. Since childhood, Rai has been an avid enthusiast of technology, studying it to an extent that was far beyond what was considered acceptable for her homeland, which lead to something of ostracization and pariahhood for her.
Science. As well as technology, she has been interested in science as well, also taking her studies to a level beyond what was acceptable in her homeland, which played apart in her isolation as a child.
Magic. This was a far more acceptable interest where Rai grew up, and lead to no end of frustration for those around her, as Rai was naturally gifted at the magical arts, and while she did have interest in magic, she also had far too much interest in science, technology, and how to make the three work together. Despite the fact that there were a number of adults in her life that were trying to move her down a path that focused solely on her magical aptitude, Rai still loves it as much as her technological and scientific pursuits.
Airships. Of course, a love of technology and science seems to lead to an appreciation for airships, however, eventually Rai became involved with the airship pirates out in the Sea of Clouds, so her love of the wonders has transformed since she first was introduced to them as a young girl - her airship, a mixture of different styles, holds a measure of freedom, and she often uses it to escape the pressures of her life for at least a few hours.
Guns. Another item that came from her love of technology and science, it turns out that all of Rai's guns lack ammunition, and don't really need aetherometers - they use focusing crystals instead. Marriages of magic and technology in a slightly different fashion, those who know her often question which Rai loves more - guns or airships - as she has quite a collection of both.

D I S L I K E S

Stupidity. Rai has a low tolerance for wilful ignorance, which often is what stupidity actually is. She also considers it to be an unwillingness to learn, when the opportunity presents itself, and the unwillingness to learn from one's mistakes. She often claims to have a "low tolerance for stupid", and frequently will simply give up on people who refuse to rise above their current level of mindfulness and knowledge.
Restrictions. Part of the reason her company operates out of Limsa Lominsa - and is seeking to relocate to Hingashi - is that Rai dislikes what she finds to be arbitrary restrictions being placed upon her, especially if they get in the way of her work or research. While many believe that she places some sort of insane restrictions upon herself, due to her seeming lack of emotions, it is in fact quite the opposite - Rai has very little in the way of restrictions upon herself, and none too many that she places upon those in her company.
Bureaucracy. Although it often doles out the restrictions, Rai despises the red tape that institutions tend to create, thus often leaving her at odds with the Alliance of Grand Companies, and the individual Grand Companies themselves. While technically holding rank within the Maelstrom, it was forced upon her by the high brass across several conflicts within Eorzea, all as part of commandeering the resources the company had - particularly their airships during the war in Ishgard. Such bureaucracy has left an even worst taste in Rai's mouth, and leaves her trying to distance herself and her company from it even further.
Grand Companies. Not just for the bureaucracy and their restrictions, but also due to having been a sky pirate and her own boss, Rai just can't abide by anyone who tries to control her even if they have the best intentions for the world.
Most Garleans. Largely for the same reasons she dislikes the Grand Companies, Rai by and large dislikes the Garleans, though she's come to understand there are different factions within the Empire, so not all of the Garleans are of the same mindset; she was well aware of this before most of those outside the Empire, due to her relationship with a Garlean exile, however tracking the shifts between the factions' grip on the hearts and minds of the peoples within the Empire has always been difficult, so Rai simply distrusts and dislikes most Garleans she meets until they prove otherwise worthy.

S T R E N G T H

Fearless. Some call it a strength, others a weakness, however Ra doesn't ever seem to be afraid of anything, unwavering even when she's faced with certain death. Some cite it as recklessness, but a few rare individuals have seen it for what it truly is, and realise it's not what it seems.
Strategic. Although it is not always immediately apparent - if apparent at all, there is always a method to her madness, though often she uses the most unconventional strategies.
Altruistic. Much of the time, Rai's kindness is hidden behind something that seems purely selfish or self-centred or self-motivated - she's become rather efficient at hiding her true motivations for something, particularly if it's going to make her look too kindhearted or make her look like the good guy in a situation.

W E A K N E S S

Fearless. Her fearlessness has almost gotten her killed more times than anyone is comfortable with. Fairly recently, Darren Fisher saw through her act, and rescued her out in Eureka Anemos when she again nearly got herself killed by being a little too fearless and a little too distracted.
Emotionally Compromised. Rai often seems incapable of truly connecting with others on a deep emotional level, and this is largely due to being cut off from her emotions for most of her life, until very recently; out of habit, she continues to act cold and distant, even if that is not entirely the case.
Fiercely Independent. The independence streak that Rai has puts some Miqo'te to shame; she often refuses aid from anyone, even those who are close to her, opting to work alone, even though it often nearly gets her killed.

Q U I R K S

Make No Movement That Wastes Energy. Due to the kind of combative training Rai has subjected herself to, she rarely makes any unnecessary movement, to the point of seeming almost statuesque at times; some find this almost unnerving, particularly when she does move and the motions are so fluid and precise, they seem to be made at a speed that is almost too quick.
Only the Unscarred Eyebrow Raises. At some point, Rai suffered some sort of laceration to her left eye, the scar starting just above the eye itself, crossing her brow, and tapering off just above the middle of her forehead. Something about the scarring has left her unable or unwilling to ever move that brow, leaving her to only ever raise the right brown when she rarely bothers with making any sort of expression requiring such.
Emotionless and Expressionless. Most people have no idea that she feels anything, as in public particularly, Rai's facial features display a complete lack of expression, while her voice is almost completely devoid of tonal depth and emotional expression; while none ever really dare to make comment to her face about it, a few not-precisely-brave souls liken her unto a corpse because of this and her statuesque like states.
Deathwish. Not many people realise it, as few catch on to it, but for most of her adult life, Rai has had what the few who have come to notice it assume is an unconscious deathwish; given that save one who have noticed were close enough to know something of her history, there is an idea of why it exists, even if there is never quite an acceptance or understanding of it.

APPEARANCE

Rai Appear001.png
Rai Appear002.png
Standing at 5 fulms and 7 ilms, Rai is just above average height for a female Midlander; if it were not for her lean and wiry stature, she may well be mistaken for a smaller Highlander. Although she has unmistakeable muscle definition, her muscle architecture has always been lean and wiry instead of large and bulky, like most Hyur - though she is a more than a bit lithe.

Rai has come to wear her hair in a variety of ways, sometimes unbound, letting it fall down her back to nearly her waist; bound at the nape of her neck in a tail; fully plaited, but rather haphazardly; or bound into a tail up at the crown of her head. She has bangs that often brush over her forehead, with shorter locks of hair that frame her face, but those seem almost more like an afterthought than anything she plans on.

Were it not for her hair, there's a very like chance that Rai might get mistaken for a man, since her lithe and wiry frame is damn near lacking in feminine curves, and her bravado and combat prowess have the potential to put many men to shame; there's a longstanding joke that she's the most manly member of her company, and it's even said within the Redbills on some days.

Icy blue eyes that tend to darken or lighten just a bit with emotion, though previously, this shifting in shade was the only indication someone may have that Rai was feeling any sort of emotion, as she has long tended to be closely guarded; more recently, however, due to an experimental treatment, Rai seems to be having flickers of emotions that will trigger a tangible elemental-based aetheric response, that also heightens with the emotional reactions to her situations.

Rai has a rather faded, decent laceration scar that begins at the bottom of her left temple, near the edge of the middle of her forehead, that clips through her outer eyebrow; she admits that even with the immediate application of healing magics, a scar formed...much to the distress of her personal physcian. At least the laceration was kept from the eye itself, and she didn't lose her sight. More recently, she's been struck by lightning on two different occasions; the first occurred when there was a healer present, so the scarring was only faint, while the second occurred when there were only a free Paladin and a compromised Red Mage to try and heal through the very heavy strike, and so the scarring was significantly worse - and it occurred during a fight where she came close to being cut down to begin with, so there were more important injuries to heal besides. She also has two fresher scars as well - one on her left side that starts about midway down and twists down and around to the point of the crest of her hip, and another on her right upper arm.

Although they are incredibly faint, there seem to be some sort of sigils on both of Ember's cheeks, each starting just to the sides of each of her eyes and trailing down over the crest of her cheekbones; while hard to tell, it seems their design very tribal yet simple. There are similar sigils on the few things that reach Eorzea from elsewhere, but it seems perhaps none match the ones Rai bears.

Her voice doesn't often have much expression or intonation to it, unless she's angry, or around the other sky pirates, or she's out on her airship. Rai also avoids speaking unless she needs to when outside the confines of her familiar territory, so many people don't really know what she sounds like anyroad.

Rai smells like a blend of cinnamon, clove, and the high skies of the world.

She dresses for utility; Rai forgoes the protection that things like plate and chain armours have to offer for the mobility of leather when dealing with martial combat practices or her gunnery, while otherwise eschewing the ornate and often impractical styles that many cloth based items offer otherwise. The vast majority of her clothing is form-fitting yet flexible, with very few pieces baring excess fabric that isn't bound back; all of this makes it difficult for anyone to use any part of her clothing as a way to grapple her during combat.

She carries an antique gold sabre with crimson accents, obviously hand-crafted to fit her particular physioaetheric profile; the detailed engravings upon it suggest it's likely some sort of heirloom as well. Rai also has a musketeer-type pistol she rarely uses, a gift from an old friend who was part of the Knights of the Barracuda; she also has a heavily modified Pre-Imperial Garlean Pistol, the framework having been altered with what appears to be Allagan technology along with some other sort of aether-based technology. She also always carries some sort of small hunting dagger that is tucked away in her boot or whatever sort of satchel she's using, typically using it as a utility knife, though it can always be used as a weapon if desperate enough. Rumour has it that Rai's been seen with some sort of odd star globe or astrolabe that doesn't seem to be constructed like a typical Astrologian tool, the centre containing not the typical orb or disk, but using her sabre's focus crystal - but few people have actually seen this weapon.

Nearly all of these weapons have spells that keep them unseen until Rai draws them, aside from the hunting dagger and the guns. While she doesn't necessarily carry all of these weapons at the same time, she typically has two or three of them together. It seems the star globe's card sheath, for example, has been modified to also be a sheath for the sabre, creating something of a dualistic device as far as carrying goes.

COMBAT & WEAPONRY
Rai has long been what she terms a 'grey mage', though she has since learned that half a world a way, the same sort of magical techniques she partially discovered and partially created from ancient magical texts as a very young teen and worked to develop since had been developed elsewhere by the descendants of those whose text she had been reading and adapting from - and they, for some strange reason, chose to call themselves 'red mages'.

Her magical studies had begun well before then, and while she doesn't really reveal where she was taught, Rai has adavanced tutoring in the Conjury, Thaumaturgy, and Arcanima schools of magic - at least that she is willing to tell of. She also studied different styles of swordplay as a child, though she took to the lighter styles of swords, despite there not being much of a way to learn beyond the basics with them; still, somehow she managed to learn or adapt a talent with rapiers and light sabres, and someone had her heirloom weapon crafted for her.

After leaving home, Rai picked up an interest in gunnery, evnetually training at the Musketeer's Guild in Limsa Lominsa, proving to be an extremely talented shot - likely from having to aim spells and the precise point work with her sabre. Initially, she used the pistol-type weapons of the Yellowjackets, however she crafted her own style - which were eventually stolen from the Guild during a brazen heist in which the purpetrators used glamours to make their leader look like Admiral Merlwyb. As the conflict that lead to the end of the Dragonsong War escalated, Rai took a Pre-Imperial Garlean Pistol, which had a much longer barrel and was more akin to a rifle, and modified it heavily with Allagan and other kinds of tech; Rai can use these kinds of guns with or without aetherotransformers, and seems to prefer to use them without.
