A P P E A R A N C E
At first glance, Locke Rinannis (LOK Rih-NAN-iss) is just like everyone else. His height is fairly average for a Hyur, and he has no overly distinguishable features save for a fair complexion and blond hair that drifts over his teal eyes.

His clothes are practical and rather plain, though lately he's been more exploratory in the fashion department, wearing things that show a bit more confidence than before. Still, he seems to own a lot of long-sleeved tunics... He also wears a simple and weathered silver band on his right middle finger, and a peculiar wooden ring on his left wedding finger.

A small purple mammet (nicknamed Olli) often trails not far behind him, though lately he's been happy to wander around Locke's shop in the Goblet.

P E R S O N A L I T Y
Pleasant: On a typical day, Locke is good company to have around. He'll make small talk as needed and seems to show genuine interest in other people.
Peaceful: Locke can often be found sitting quietly or taking a walk around town, deep in thought or simply people-watching. He enjoys the company of others but doesn't force it.
Encouraging: Locke is an optimist. He's very good at seeing the positive side of things and always has a kind word to share.
Gullible: During his short time in Ul'dah, Locke has been mugged or pickpocketed at least four times due to sob stories involving orphans. He'll believe any tale as long as it sounds at least halfway plausible.
Bashful: Compliments and flirts are typically met with gracious bow of his head and a sheepish grin. He doesn't think much of himself and is often baffled by anyone who thinks anything of him.
Follower: Due to his quiet and peaceful personality, Locke has difficulty leading. He's a people-pleaser, so when tough decisions need to be made for the good of a group, he tends to flounder.

Q U I R K S
Fidgets, usually by shifting his feet or twisting a ring on his finger.
Clears his throat if flustered or embarrassed.
Loves oranges, often has at least one in his satchel.
Sudden headaches, which he deals with by keeping his eyes closed or rubbing his temples.
If under duress, his movements may suddenly become jarred or abnormally quick.

Pacifist: In general, Locke dislikes violence and will avoid it when he can. However, he knows that it is sometimes necessary, and he will use his abilities to protect anyone in danger.
Locke combat 01.png
Close-ranged: He has been known to carry a pair of daggers, but Locke is most often seen without a weapon at all. He prefers to disarm or grapple enemies over stabbing them in the gut.
Low Aetheric Ability: Locke does not have any apparent potential for magic. There may be some latent within him, but any attempts to physically conjure have been met with minimal results. However, even though he's not very good at using aether himself, he is quite knowledgeable about the technical and historical details (mostly due to Romimo's ramblings). Likewise, he has grown accustomed to aetheric travel and feels little to no nausea from it.

Mechanic & Engineer
Locke airship.png
Since arriving in Ul'dah, Locke has delved deep into matters of clockwork and magitek engineering. He has the most experience with mammets and other such mechanical devices, but lately he has been studying Garlean technology and expanding his knowledge into airships. He's a quick and eager learner, taking in whatever information he can get to further his inventions.
Thanks in part to his friend Vahl'sae, who obtained a book of blueprints from the Ehcatl tribe in the Black Shroud, Locke now has an expansive knowledge of aircrafts. He has built a fully functional engine and makes regular repairs to various airship-related projects. Also, after a daring salvage attempt by his assistant Nuzui, Locke obtained a wealth of magitek parts and materials. His current side-projects include aether visibility goggles, prosthetic limbs, automatons, and linkpearl modifications.
Upon meeting people with firearms and devices of machinistry, Locke has decided to try making one of his own. He does not have the proper training in this field, so progress has been struggling. However, he isn't one to give up easily, spending much of his free time refurbishing old magitek and guns in order to engineer his own customized set.
Scout & Spy
Throughout Locke's life, he has been in positions in which to track people/creatures or locate items around the Black Shroud. He has a keen eye for landmarks and subtle changes in scenery, and his calm disposition begets a calm approach in tense situations. With practical experience and quick reflexes, he makes for an excellent lookout or guide.
Being naturally meek and quiet, Locke has a habit of easily fading into a crowd. (A wallflower, as initially coined by his wife.) This can work for or against him, but he often finds it useful for observational purposes. If he was a more devious sort, sneaking, eavesdropping, and thievery would be a fairly simple task. However, his innocence and lawfulness currently makes him harmless in this area.
Voidsent Hunter
This is not something that Locke will typically bring up in every day conversation, but those who visit him at his home may notice a few devices and weapons specifically designed for the tracking and dispelling of Voidsent. For the most part, he has put that life behind him. But if given the correct circumstances, he could be convinced to don his daggers and use his skills once again.

Past

Locke is hesitant to speak of a few things concerning his past, but what is known is that he hails from Oakbarrow, a small town in the northeastern part of the Black Shroud, on the edge of Gridania's influence.
Oakbarrow had the unfortunate coincidence of being located near a newly formed—but weak—aetheric rift. On occasion, voidsent would force their way through the rift, terrorizing the town and sowing fear into its residents. Locke, and others, learned to fight back and gained practical fighting experience against the voidsent. They became quite good at it, actually.
Locke uldah 01.png
After an undisclosed incident, Locke and Romimo Romi both left their home and began traveling south. Eventually they reached Ul'dah, where Locke found work at the local Coliseum, repairing and maintaining its mammets and doing odd jobs.

Present

(Journal Entries can be found on Locke's Tumblr or Dove's Forums.)
After his arrival to Ul'dah, Locke was recruited by the Free Wing Society. He did small jobs and fundraisers with them while slowly growing acquainted with its members. He grew especially acquainted with one in particular, Lilithium Altair, the leader of the company. After spending much time speaking, entrusting things with one another, and displaying affection, Locke confessed his love. And, much to his relief, she returned the sentiment.
Lilithium accompanied Locke back to his hometown of Oakbarrow. He only wished to see it from a distance to make sure it was all right, knowing that he would never be allowed within its boundaries. However, when he arrived, he discovered that the village had been completely overrun by voidsent from another rift, turning all its residents (including his brother, Auric) into undead or voidsent themselves.
With a heavy heart, Locke reunited with Romimo Romi at Poor Maid's Mill, nearly a year since leaving their home, to share the news. The visit wasn't long, and after mourning together, the two parted ways once again with promises of more regular visits.
All the while, his skills at the Coliseum had begun to flourish, and he decided to strike out on his own. He has made a business for himself that deals with repairs for clockwork machines (mammets and the like), as well as magitek and armor, located in the Goblet (see Usual RP Locations).

"Yeah, Locke! I've met him a few times. He couldn't remember my name even once. I told him it was fine, but he still felt terrible for it." - Wolken, assistant at the Coliseum
"He helps around the coliseum. They treat him like a lackey over there, making him run around like a headless dodo... I don't think I've ever seen him unhappy about it, though. Guess he should feel lucky to get a job in Ul'dah so quickly!" - Jealous Juggernaut, merchant on Hustings Strip
"I always see him sitting alone. I don't think he's made very many friends since he moved to the city. Not sure why." - Rianne, merchant on Emerald Avenue
Moderate Rumors (Difficult to overhear)

💑 Significant Other    💘 Romantic Interest     🏠 Family    Trusted
Good Standing     Neutral Standing     Poor Standing

(Names are alphabetical according to color.)

Lockelili 02.png
💑 Lilithium Rinannis : (Wife) When Locke first met Lili, she was the leader of the Free Wing Society. After hiring him, they slowly began to know each other better. From professional courtesy, to friendship, to something more. Hesitantly, Locke expressed his feelings for her, and their relationship eventually expanded into the public eye. Troubles arose, causing them to worry over each other's safety time and again. Finally, uncertain of what the future may hold, the two eloped at Costa del Sol, accompanied by Lili's son, Ado. (They plan to have a ceremony at a later date.) Since Lili's retirement from the Free Wings, the two have focused on their family and future together, defining what exactly that means.
🏠 Adokenai Rinannis : (Adopted son) Lili's adopted Lalafellian child, and now the son of Locke, Ado is a mischievous and curious boy who can always find an adventure. After the child was returned from a kidnapping situation, and with danger always seeming to be lurking about, Locke has plans to make sure the he is protected. Now if only he can get Ado to sit still long enough.
🏠 Auric Rinannis : (Brother) Despite having grown up in the same town and raised by the same parents, Locke and Auric's contrasting personalities caused quite a rift between them. Auric walked out of Locke's life long ago, and Locke never thought to see his brother again. That is, until he returned to his hometown nearly a cycle ago with Lili and saw the voidsent that Auric had become. Fearing that his brother would attack, Locke fled Oakbarrow, and Auric did not follow. Recently, Locke has heard of Auric moving within the Shroud, having attacked one of his apprentices. Locke fears that he may have to face his brother soon, and it fills him with dread.
🏠 Deisara Silverlark : (Step-daughter) The older of Lili's twin daughters, and the much more brazen of the two. Locke tries his best to not be on Dei's bad side (and to assure her that he has the best intentions), though by proxy of being newly married to her beloved mother, he is in a bit of a deficit with her favor. To no one's surprise, he is fairly intimidated by her.
🏠 Romimo Romi : (Sister-figure) Romimo is a smart and talented Lalafell with a penchant for magic. She and Locke grew up under the same roof, and he has been a sort of older sister to him. The two went their separate ways after leaving their hometown, but Romi suggested to the Sunny Seas Salvage that Locke could be picked up as an engineer, and thus he was hired. They now see each other much more often, to Locke's delight.
🏠 Sarameda Silverlark : (Step-daughter) The younger of Lili's twin daughters. Locke tries to be aware of her shy and doe-like hesitance by being extra careful and cordial. He enjoys her company, and they seem to have a fairly comfortable step-daughter to step-father relationship.
Cyrus Chambers : An enigmatic scholar whom Locke met on the roads of the Shroud, and someone he has grown to greatly trust. After a trip to the Void in an attempt to be rid of Locke's curse once and for all, Cyrus was wounded, and Locke can't help but feel that he is to blame. He continues to work with Cyrus regarding aetherical anomalies and mechanical inventions, and ultimately is one of the closest friends Locke has.
Vahl'sae Bajihri : (aka "Valliant Shield") A Keeper Miqo'te (now Roegadyn) who Locke has hired as the supplier for his ores and magitek. They have forged a strong business relationship, and Locke considers him a good friend. Approached by Vahl with a book from the Ehcatl, the two have decided to explore the realm of airships and see what they can build together. Vahl accompanied Locke in his trip through a Voidgate, and he feels deeply indebted to the Roegadyn for his help.
Locke vahl 01.png
Avesy Etz : A young Midlander woman who stopped by Locke's workshop with a flyer in hand, looking for a job. Although she is unfamiliar with repair work, she shows a willingness and an enthusiasm to learn machinery. She has been hired as an apprentice.
Bert Brewforge : They may not see eye to eye on a few things, and their personalities are very different, but Locke has still come to appreciate this rough Highlander. He seems to be a capable leader when put in the position, and Locke is all too ready to simply follow. He's learned of Bert's skill as a blacksmith, and the mechanic hopes to be able to work with him in the future.
Cassandra Lachance : Locke first met this woman in the Free Wing Society, where the two would converse through minor smalltalk and pleasantries on a few occasions. Since leaving the Society, Locke has since run into Cass again at the Sunny Seas Salvage. Being within the same company again has meant more opportunities to speak, which Locke doesn't mind at all.
Fejika Menajika : A peculiar little Lalafell who has checked up on, defended, and given literal buckets of meade to Locke on a few occasions. He feels like Fejika actually cares about his well-being. And their bottomless pit of a stomach for ale is quite impressive, really.
J'inarah Marad : One of Locke's employers and leaders of the Jackals. Locke doesn't know her well, but she seems very kind-hearted, and Locke appreciates both her and J'kilid for allowing him in as a Jackal.
J'kilid Tia : The other half of leadership of the Jackals, Kilid seems to be a practical and friendly sort, though he knows him only as well as his wife, J'inarah, which isn't very well. Still, he hopes to know this Miqo'te better over time. They also share a fondness for cannons.
J'Nali Noe : A Seeker woman who approached Locke at his shop for a part to fix her mammet, Flint. As the conversation went on, it became apparent that she was quite a good clockwork mechanic herself. She was also looking for work, and so Locke was more than happy to offer her the position as an employee. Absentmindedness on his part has caused him to lose track of the Miqo'te, much to his dismay.
Kale Aideron : For a long time, Locke was only somewhat acquainted with Kale, the commander (at the time) of Ul'dah's Flame Yataghans. Locke had not seen or heard from him until he reappeared as a potential client in Locke's repair shop nearly a year later. With so much time passed, Locke can't place where he has seen Kale before, but the two seem to get along rather well, and Locke now does most of the repairs for the Goblet's local U'ldahn barracks.
Kanto Jahari : A man who, on the same day as Avesy, came into Locke's shop with flyer in hand. Enthusiastic and cheerful, Locke quite likes this Miqo'te thus far, and hopes that he can provide plenty of work for him to do. Kanto has also proven to be a capable fighter (at least a good sparring partner), and his mandragora named Primari has even assisted Locke with a family matter.
Kohi Shiransu : An exuberrant young Au Ra whom Locke found curiously rummaging around the workshop at the Sunny Seas Salvage. Her excitement seems to know no bounds, eagerly volunteering to help with the airship. Locke has offered to help get her rudimentary gun functional as well.
Lanielle Lanelle : An adorable Lalafell who Locke met at Sunny Seas Salvage. She is bright and optimistic, and her charm never fails to bring a smile to Locke's face. And quite a good dodgeball player, even in a dress and sunhat!
Lu : During an investigation, Locke and Cyrus happened upon a washed up Miqo'te on Costa del Sol. After taking her to a physician, getting her set up at the local inn, and giving her a linkpearl, Locke continues to keep tabs on this Miqo'te's well-being and would like to help her get to wherever she needs to go.
Locke cyrus lu.png
Miata Luna : This energetic young Miqo'te musician often bumps into Locke around Ul'dah. The two have spent quite some time together, eventually disclosing information about their pasts. After giving him her lute and telling her to keep it until her return, he did not see her for several moons. Then, one day, she returned out of the blue, took back her lute (and a few apples), and went on her way again. Locke is still bewildered.
Nuzui Lombardi : A red-clad Miqo'te (now Lalafell) who came in late one evening to Locke's shop, looking to learn about airships, and he picked her up as another apprentice. She seems haphazard, willing to throw herself into danger in order to assist, but also very kind and genuine. Without realizing it, Locke has slowly grown rather protective of the woman, as if she was a younger sister.
Platinum Mountain : A mighty Lalafell dragonslayer who Locke has seen around the Sunny Seas Salvage. He seems quite nice and helpful, and he has even entrusted Locke with a broken visor for the mechanic to fix..
V'lanya Mei : When Locke was first getting to know V'lanya, he was wary. She seemed dangerous, though he tried not to show his hesitance and treated her with the same respect he would give anyone else. As he got to know her and see the goodness in her heart, his opinion changed to that of appreciation, and having heard of her terminal condition, he wishes that he had tried harder to befriend her.
Coraliza Velia : A Miqo'te woman who Locke used to spend time with around the Free Wing house. They got along quite well, each apologetic and polite. She even taught him how to mend his own clothes, and gave him books to help his research. But she disappeared for a few moons, which distanced their relationship. After disappearing again, Locke wishes her well, but he isn't expecting to see her again soon.
Ennara Calian : As a fellow Free Wing, Locke saw this Highlander fairly often. Locke was quite curious to know more about her research concerning crystals. She went on an extended vacation some time ago, and he has not been able to catch up with her since her return.
Ghislan Nightwing : Locke knew little of this man except that he was Lili's late husband, the love of her life. Presumed dead for years, nothing could describe the amount of guilt and fear that Locke felt when he saw the Highlander return. Although it seems Lili has moved on from Ghislan, there's always the guilt lingering in the back of Locke's mind that he had inadvertantly taken Lili from him.
Iona Itaralyrwyn : A feisty Miqo'te who competes regularly at the Coliseum. The two passed by each other on occasion, but due to Iona's popularity and success as a gladiator, Locke had difficulty getting to know her better. She can also be quite abrasive toward him, which leaves him feeling a little apprehensive.
Istellia Montagne : One of Locke's clients, an Elezen woman who wishes for him to build...quite a large airship. Locke isn't sure how he'll fill the order, but as long as she keeps the funds coming, he'll do his best!
Jino'ya Traore : A timid Miqo'te healer in whom Locke sees a lot of himself, or rather, who he used to be. Locke hopes to be able to help him, though he's had a difficult time getting to speak with him, as many others feel the same.
Kal Numara : Locke enjoys being around Kal, a fierce and boisterous Highlander woman. Her good-natured and brutally honest attitude tends to put him in good spirits.
Katiti Kati : As a Lalafellin schoolteacher in the Free Wing Society, Katiti is someone who Locke thinks highly of. He appreciates her responsible and matter-of-fact personality, but he can't say that he knows her well at all.
Locke kohi romi.png
Khrys Relanah : A Seeker who purchased Locke at the Free Wing Society Date Auction. After a pleasant date with Khrys, the two parted ways feeling more acquainted with each other. He bumped into her again while finding out that she had joined the Free Wing Society, but she later moved on to other things.
Miir Raj'ar : Locke tends to see this Miqo'te around the Sunny Seas Salvage and during missions run by the Jackals. He appreciates her opinions and skepticism, being unlikely see that viewpoint for himself. He would like to get to know her better, since they've been crossing paths more and more often.
Nanapo Napo : A Lalafellian child who Locke sometimes sees wandering around the Free Wing's property. He doesn't know much about her, but like any child he knows, Locke shows a good-natured kindness.
'Ox' : A man by many names and faces, though Locke knows him mostly as a Roegadyn Dark Knight from Othard who was close friends with Lili, enough so that he took the Free Wing Society in her stead. To this day, Locke doesn't quite know what to make of Ox, having mainly seen him in either dire or awkward situations. He heard through the vine that the man was very ill, but then recovered. Locke hasn't heard anything since.
Toff Vaughnn : Locke and this Keeper Miqo'te have exchanged small conversation in passing, and their personalities seem to balance each other well. Unfortunately, time nor opportunity has arisen to progress the relationship further. Ado seems quite fond of him, and Locke knows that his son is in capable hands when he's with Toff.
Yuki Kurenai : Locke has had a few curious interactions with Yuki. Their relationship has been a bit...odd as of late, though Locke can't quite put his finger on the reason.
Zephyr Quillsong : A blind Duskwight which Locke met on several occasions around the Society house. He finds her love for nature and animals quite charming, though he worries how she gets along while knocking into things as much as she does.
Zhyalyhe Loeshaksyn : Locke first met Zee at a local wine tasting event, where the two had the unfortunate idea to try two mysterious blue vials. Both became sick, and they shared a common bond by vomitting in the yard together. Since then, Locke has seen Zee on occasion, but it seems the Roegadyn has decided to take a journey on the Rhotano for a time.
Zaiaku Kurai : A black-haired Hyur who Locke has only had the displeasure of meeting in person once. Zaiaku has threatened Lili and Ado's safety and happiness too many times for Locke to permit forgiveness, and he would love nothing more than to see him come to justice.
