Character

♦ General

(This page has recently undergone a major rework! Check it out if you want to know what has changed!)
This overly polite and apologetic medicine-woman can often be found scuttling about making deliveries for her shop. Due to her diligent work, E'kari's Alchemist Alley has become one of the Alchemist Guild's favored subsidiaries and is frequently called upon to do business as a representative of their organization.

♦ Appearance

E'kari is a Seeker/Keeper half-breed who carries some physical traits from her mother and father. Her eyes are narrow slit-pupils, skin pale but capable of bronzing in the sun like a Seeker; though her fur is fluffy and tail is long like a Keeper.
This miqo'te has a snow-print mane--white with undertones if black and grey--with pale blue eyes and bangle-stripes that frame her face.
In true mage form--E'kari can usually be found in little to no armor, even when going into battle. It slows her down in preforming martial arts and also disrupts her casting to wear anything too heavy. Instead she prefers comfortable robes or her labcoat.

♦ History

The parentage of E'yami and E'kari is a taboo matter. One that the Nunh of the Eft ordered upon the strictest of penalty, never to be spoken of. While their mother--E'yari--was a Seeker and one of the designated breeding females to the Nunh; their father--Sagu'a--was actually a roving Keeper who had long since left behind a subservient life with his maternal-family in the Shroud to be a traveling poet, minstrel and anthropologist. The two Miqo'te met when Sagu'a and his scholarly lalafell companion, Anabel Nack, sought a place to rest during their travels. The tribe apprehensively took the researchers in as temporary guests. In that time Sagu'a and E'yari began a secret relationship.
When it came to light that the two had been together Sagu'a was put to death, and his body unceremoniously left to rot in the heat of the desert just outside of their territory.
In a double blow, not only was E'yari stricken with grief, but she also discovered she was pregnant. Due to a combination of her melancholy of her lost love, the despair at what her life would be at the whims of her Nunh and complications during the birthing process--E'yari died shortly after her second kit was delivered. The last words she managed to speak before slipping away were the names of her children. Both Doman, in honor of their father who fancied the culture. Yami, meaning dark, and Hikari meaning light--though the midwives were unfamiliar with the tongue, mistaking it simply for /E/kari.
Upon the twins' birth into the Eft--as per tradition--the clan made a ceremonial offering of their namesake to Azeyma that would determine their role in the tribe. When the flesh was melted from the bones, their appointed wise-woman had determined E'kari was to be the next shaman while E'yami's bones were an augury that she was preordained to be a great warrior.
The Nunh was pleased by the news and demanded celebration, but found that the females of the tribe were not nearly as thrilled. Many believed that the pale-faced kits with hair of black and white were cursed; killing their mother with ill-omen. Nack took this opportunity to offer her services in raising her friends' children and providing them with education.
The lalafell's silver tongue managed to coerce the Nunh to allow this arrangement--given he had few other options. The three were put up in a yurt close to the Nunh's own home to keep an eye on the foreigner.
In the years that proceeded their youth, the twins were given a proper education by the professor--in between being stolen away to be taught their duties to the Eft. While Yami practiced fighting the other tribal youths, Kari was introduced to herbal medicine, burial rites and how to divinate the future with the practice of bone reading.
Despite the twins' diligent efforts to hone their skills and fulfill thier tribal roles, they sorely lacked any sort of companionship from the other children of the Eft--having learned from their mother's to be wary of the pale-faced Seekers. Because of this, Nack took it upon herself to try and teach the girls the basic art of carbuncle summoning and passed her own Topaz and Emerald gems down to each of them.
Demure and plagued with anxiety, E'kari was given Nicholas--Nack's Emerald carbuncle--as a therapy animal; while E'yami received Whackara--a Topaz companion who had enough spunk and energy to keep up with her. Both arcanist-pets has served the Professor faithfully since her own youth and passed without incident into the hands of their new masters.
As the twins neared their teenage years, an odd habit of E'kari's came to light. She could often be found speaking to the streams, winds and rock-faces in the territory which the tribe found very suspicious. Some of the more superstitious members of the tribe were convinced the was speaking to the dead; the Nunh believed this was some gift from the Warden, proving his right to rule was divine.
Knowing better than to believe any of that, Nack speculated that this was a hereditary trait, passed down from Sagu'a, who was a Hearer. Once more the professor went to the Nunh and convinced him that he should allow her to take the twins to train abroad in Gridania that they might return more powerful and capable of serving him. He agreed to the idea and within a fortnight Nack brought the girls to the Shroud.
Once in Gridania, E'kari joined the Conjurer's Guild as a student while E'yami sought training in both lance and bow.
Though eager to make new friends the Seeker found this was easier said than done. The high populous of Hyur and Elezen looked condescendingly upon the tribal girls. It was not out of the ordinary for the more crude classmates to inquire if her parents were cousins. This trouble fitting in was compounded by the fact she didn't seem to learn at the same rate as everyone else. E'kari would often focus on small details of things, so much so that she could not intake an entire lesson. A classroom setting did her little credit, but during her free moments she would visit the Everschade and commune with the Elementals.
On one such visit, a strong wind blew a small branch down from the great tree; which, E'kari took and mended with magic that it might be used as a crook.
Due to her natural affinity for the forest and her difficulty with conventional methods of learning she was taken as a personal apprentice to Master E-Sumi-Yan, a patient Padjal who specialized in the guidance of Hearers. Discovering the trick seemed to be hands-on learning, he took every opportunity to have the Seeker accompany him while he worked. E'kari improved quickly under his tutelage, able to stand as a conjurer in her own right.
Near the end of the girl's time abroad, the Seventh Umbral Calamity struck. With her guild called to act as medics on the field, the twins soon found themselves on the heels of disaster for the duration of the event. E'kari and her classmates followed the guildmasters into the chaos, assisting those who had been wounded or fallen. E'yami acted as E'kari's personal guard as she preformed field surgeries and magical healing. The two witnessed death up close on more than one occasion, finding themselves changed by the end of it all.
After all was said and done, the girls' respective masters deemed them both students no longer. And while this was a sweet taste, it was also made bitter by the memories of carnage that now haunted them both.
The twins returned to their desert territory as heroines who represented their tribe with valor and courage. The Nunh held festivities long into the night. It seemed as though they'd finally been accepted, but neither seemed particularly content with staying within the territory any more--not after all they had been through. Together E'yami and E'kari traveled to the Shrine of the Warden, offering an Eft in a pyre for guidance. When the flesh had melted from the bones, Azeyma's will bid they must go--for they had more to do out in the world. E'kari shared this edict with their people and with heavy hearts, they left again to find and fulfill their duties elsewhere until the time the Warden calls for them to return.

♦ Behavior

E'kari has a hard time learning in a conventional sense often requires an exceedingly patient teacher in order to have any real success. However once she does learn something--or is preforming a task she excels in--she is hard-pressed to be outshined.
While still generally being good natured and apologetic, in combat E'kari is capable of being a formidable opponent. Being a conjurer she will often take the role of a healer, but her connection to the Elementals has also allowed to take a unique approach to martial arts. The Seeker will often harden a stone skin over her hands and feet while delivering blows, or using gales of wind to enhance her movement speed. She has named her self-made fighting style, "The Golem Step" which emphasizes momentum and fluidity. (Much of her techniques in form are inspired by real world Zui Quan)
Despite her obvious shortcomings, E'kari is a very hopeful person and goes into every situation with optimism for success, even if she has failed at the task a hundred times before. Sometimes it's the hundred and first try that brings success.

Family

E'yami Amane - E'kari's protective fraternal twin sister, older by 7 minutes. E'yami has always been a strong source of strength, comfort and adventure as the two have grown. Though she has a very tomboyish and wears tough outer shell, E'kari knows that her sister is actually very caring and sensitive--always putting the needs of others before herself; and that is what makes her E'kari's hero.
💑 Vektis Sol - E'kari's boisterous, free-spirited and loveable husband. When they first met she admired his self confidence--often shyly observing him kicking down doors to shout his own name at people. There are few in the world who can raise E'kari's spirits like Vektis can. The two became close friends and then a couple shortly there after. Though many people see his behavior as a nuisance, E'kari celebrates her husband's off-beat mannerisms--unless of course they prove to be dangerous. She loves him to the end of the world and back. The two are married and have two young children together. "Yes, you have been informed correctly. Vektis is, indeed, the bestest." - E'kari Sol
E'kira Sol - The infant daughter of Vektis and E'kari, also commonly referred to as Kira. This tiny mixed breed of Keeper and Seeker has been though much hardship in her short life. E'kira is the sole survivor of a litter of three, making Vektis and E'kari very protective of her. Regardless of whatever situation she's in, E'kira tends to cry very little. Recently she'd begun learning to walk and talk. Already she has shown the propensity to always be making noise of some sort, just like her father.
Maxwell Sol - Born to the Eft tribe--to the name E'rhaja Tia--and orphaned after his sire was defeated and overthrown by another male. E'kari picked up the kitten; she felt a kinship with him for their similar origins. Upon his arrival at Heartwood to the Sol family he was renamed by Vektis and E'kari so he might grow up feeling like he belonged. Now three cycles old, Max is shy, polite and thoughtful. Especially fond of tinkering with small shiny objects and collecting beads, rocks and shells. He has an exceptionally bright mind for a boy his age.
Nicholas Nack- NPC - The ever-present summoned companion of E'kari. This carbuncle has been with E'kari throughout the Seeker's entire life as a sort of therapy animal, helping to keep her anxiety in check. With a gem layered with complex geometries: Anabel Nack made it so he and his sister creation--Whackara--could form memories; and with that, personalities. Nick is generally gentle and quiet, with a keen ability to sense people's emotional needs. As such, he tends to gravitate to people whom he suspects need comfort. Nick is aware of his own artificial intellegence and often grapples with his place in the world, as well as the loneliness that comes from his own existence. "Ploo!" - Nick
Anabel Nack - Author, scientist, surgeon and parent. This quirky and frightening alchemist is the adopted mother of E'yami and E'kari. Nanabel Nabel by birth, she almost always goes by her pen-name "A.B. 'Nack'". Though her child rearing methods were always questionable at best, the most indisputable fact of it all is that Nack loves both of her girls very much. She is not above employing dark methods to ensure this mad-scientist keeps her loved ones safe. This lalafell's haunting laughter was picked up by E'kari as she was growing up. "Kuhuhuh....." - Anabel Nack
Conrad Steelsong - This initially frighteningly large Ala Mhigan is actually the godparent of E'kari and Vektis' young daughter, E'kira. The four of them, as well as No'Ulla Khilik, all take up residence in the same house in the Mist. Conrad has obviously weathered the storm of many conflicts that have hardened his exterior. Despite his gruff demeanor, E'kari finds him to be a wonderful person and the closest thing to a father she's ever known.
No'Ulla Khilik - The Ala Mhigan-weaver wife of Conrad Steelsong. She has recently returned from apprenticing in Ishgard to live with the Solsong household. E'kari finds her to be a skilled craftswoman and never tires of hearing about Ulla's special technique of Spell-Weaving. Ulla is a welcome addition to the family--E'kari just hopes that Vektis doesn't scare their new friend off with nonsensical antics.
Nyscera Alarone - This mistress of shadowy death is a close friend of the twins' adopted mother. She is considered an aunt to E'kari and E'yami. Early on in E'kari stay at Heartwood, the dragon-riding assassin took E'kari, Bennett and Snowy in as pupils for physical and mental training. While it was grueling and at times crushing, E'kari owes her martial arts ability solely to these lessons. Nyscera taught E'kari the value of teamwork and also her how to be unphased by negative elements in her life.
Rath Alarone - Nyscera's aloof husband--and by proxy--the twins' uncle. This applesauce-loving dark knight is the one that hired E'kari to work as the company alchemist--in no small part to do with the potent pain killers she was able to make for him after a fight that nearly ended in his death. He always seems have a joke lined up, even in the most bleak of situations.
Bennett Cooper - E'kari's teammate and--since his adoption by Rath and Nyscera Alarone--cousin of sorts. E'kari sees Bennett as the shining future of their free company. While he makes mistakes and has a ways to go before he can truly master any of his arsenal of weapons, E'kari firmly believes this young boy is going to do great things. Could young Master Bennett be a something more than the average fighter...? "Cooper is Super..!" - E'kari Sol
E'vehlke Sohj - The maternal cousin of E'kari and E'yami. Vehlke is a fearless warrior with a strange accent. As she is a full blood Seeker of the Eft tribe, E'vehlke shares a striking resemblance to the twins' deceased mother.
Sokhatai Borlaaq - This huntress is the wife of E'vehlke Sohj. She has a very specific way of talking. E'kari onced picked her brain about adventure and Au'Ra culture. She finds her delightful!
Reina Sol - E'kari's half Keeper half Raen sister-in-law. She is the first person from Heartwood that the twins ever met, quickly taking the girls under her wing and giving them a place to stay. It was because of Reina that E'kari met Vektis. E'kari admires Reina as a strong and together person.
Snowy Sol - E'kari's full miqo'te sister-in-law. Even before the two were related by marriage, E'kari has had a definite soft spot for this girl-genius in her heart. The two worked together in the clinic for some time, rather closely. In one occasion the two preformed life saving surgery on Vektis. E'kari's only qualm is that she fears this teen might be too relaxed about the dangerous world around her at times--but maybe that's just the anxiety talking.
Xihvi'ir Valathri - Xihvi'ir, or 'Ashy' as the others have taken to calling him, is a kindly harp-player that has come into the service of Heartwood. Though E'kari doesn't know of his personal dealings in any intricate regard--other than his past as a gambler--she knows she can trust his character, as he is well loved by Nick. The Keeper has always loaned a helping hand to the company whenever a need arose, for that E'kari finds herself very grateful to her new friend. Though she doesn't know it yet, the two share an unexpected bond in blood.

Friends

Sakeru Wakeru – This unsuspecting looking delivery boy has a dark past under the surface. A time ago, Sakeru divulged a portion of his history to E'kari and a few others. Oddly enough, she ended up trusting him more after learning he was a trained assassin. She was quite sad to see him leave for a time, but was much overjoyed at his return. Wherever this lalafell goes two things are a certain: death and dinner. "Did I leave the oven on..?" - Sakeru Wakeru
Tustin Lafell - The first moment E'kari saw this lalafell he was being arrested on the free company lawn for the attempted armed robbery. Later when he returned to make his peace with Heartwood the two met and over time became close companions. Tustin's street-savvy, wild and hot-headed demeanor contrasts E'kari's bookish, nervous, awkwardness in a very positive way. This Dunesfolk left Heartwood some time ago to make something of himself out in the world. Since then he has begun studying medicine. He remains, to this day, one of E'kari's most treasured and beloved friends. "I'm not cute! I'm manly as hell!" - Tustin Lafell
Tynos Riller - This towering black mage initially greatly frightened E'kari upon their first meeting. Perhaps it was his scar, his serious expression or his sheer size--regardless, she now knows him as a very kind-hearted and family oriented leader. He sacrifices much of himself to keep Heartwood's members safe--and frankly--works too hard. It would be a shock to find him away from the clinic for longer than a month. It's safe to say, E'kari's pharmacy has a special 'Tynos Budget' for the small fortune it takes to keep this misfortune prone Elezen on his feet. "My goodness..! Hurt again, Master Tynos...?" - E'kari Sol
Cioccolato Stella - Cioccolato, or Lady Cio as E'kari calls her, works as a nurse and aspiring doctor for Heartwood. This charming and kind healer can often be seen sporting pastel colors and traveling around in the company of her Demon Brick, Cenere, which is a close friend of Max. E'kari has always been very fond of this miqo'te since her arrival and is one of the few she trusts to care for Kira and Max in her absence.
Kaiya Ailbhe - The librarian, chief of medicine and over-all brains of Heartwood. E'kari admires the patience of this woman but also feels horribly guilty that the actions of her free company have driven Kaiya to take up smoking. Occasionally E'kari will bring Kaiya cinnamon sticks en masse as an attempt to give her something roughly cigarette shaped to hold and suck on. It is unknown if Doctor Ailhbe actually enjoys these or if she is merely humoring E'kari. Hopefully at the very least she is not being driven to smoke those as well...
Zana Amaro - An aloof gunslinger and self proclaimed alley-cat. Despite being told not to, E'kari still insists on respectfully referring to this miqo'te as Lady Zana. When this woman is armed and in a foul mood . . . heaven help her target. E'kari has seen Zana rip a man's arm clean off. However Zana does also have a soft side. When E'kari was gravely injured in an attempt on her life, Zana stationed herself in the clinic to watch over her.
Narumi Kotokaze - More commonly referred to as "Kota". E'kari met this Maelstrom affiliated bounty hunter on the road when she was set upon by highwaymen--which Kota easily dispatched. Since then the Raen has been promoted to first lieutenant of the Storm-guard and assigned to work as the handler of the former pirate Skyfwyb. The officer comissions her medicine from E'kari's "Alchemist's Alley".
Skyfwyb Aergankawyn - E'kari was not fond of this woman in the start. The monsterous Seawolf had committed crimes against Heartwood on numerous occasions. E'kari was glad to hear of her sting and arrest by the Maelstrom. In the time that has followed, however, the curt and belligerent captain seems to have changed her ways to some extent. E'kari now views her slightly more favorably after having witnessed Skyfwyb's capacity to care genuinely for another person. It was also by the aid of this former pirate that the Solsong household was able to cross the sea to the east. As it stands now they are friends.
Moralee Relen - Known to E'kari as "Mordry". This Au'Ra woman is rather complex for many reasons. Regardless E'kari cares greatly about Moralee and Mora in equal measure--although Mordry's "Moralee-half" is more familiar to her. Some time ago Mordry required E'kari's help with a somewhat risky task. This evoked the ire of her usually perpetually cheerful husband. Vektis has yet to forgive Mordry to this day, which fills the Seeker with guilt and remorse. However, because of that mission, E'kari learned how to brew a special and ancient potion she dubbed, "The Draught of the Dreamwalker".
Neville Synch - This good natured marksman is the mate of Zana Amaro and the best friend of E'yami Amane. Over the period she has known him, this man has done a lot for E'kari's family which she could never repay. Though she does not know him too well personally she trusts him fully regardless. She always gets a chuckle out of the banter between Neville and Vektis.
Vahn Quietfury - A sweet little boy with a curious connection to an elder dragon. E'kari first met the half lalafell on a caravan mission that was attacked. In the absence of his own mother, the Seeker would often look after Vahn when his father was away. One day when Vahn was playing with some of the other boys in the company yard he exhibited dangerous abilities. He and his father were sent away for the potential danger they posed. E'kari still loves Vahn like a son.
Brandon Stormstrider - The Hyur father of Vahn Quietfury. E'kari met Brandon a short time after Vahn. The two became close friends, as the miqo'te was one of the few Heartwood members Brandon trusted. She would often do simple favors for the father and son to make their lives easier such as cleaning or bringing home pineapples. Upon their leaving to a new safehaven the Seeker found herself deeply saddend, however Brandon still sneaks over to the company on occasion. Brandon has placed E'kari under the protection of his men known only as "The Rogues".
Enkhjargal Dalamiq - This stoic summoner is actually E'kari's master. He took her under his wing when she first arrived to Heartwood and had to terrorize her into being able to use her magic for anything beyond healing. His methods worked and looking back, E'kari owes him all of the strength she possesses now. Beyond that, she thinks he is a wonderful person who has natural ability with children. Who knew!
Camille Everardi - Camille is Enkhjargal Dalamiq's wife and a talented mage, among many other things. E'kari has seen Camille fight in more than one way in the past with spars. She found this woman to be a strong female rolemodel for her in the past when she was just learning to fight--and still looks up to her to this day. E'kari couldn't be happier that her master and friend found happiness in each other's company.
Chokho Viqqoh - A fierce, fiery and loyal amnesiac-Keeper who recently joined Heartwood. Since her arrival, Chokho and E'kari have become fast friends; bonding over their shared love of martial arts and string instruments. Though the two differ greatly in temperament and personality they have a shared respect for one another.

Acquaintances

Dead Willow - This Gyr Abanian born Hellsguard was Vektis’ teacher while he studied Red Magic. While possessing the—not uncommon—gruff demeanor of a pit fighter, Willow has also expressed true care and kindness toward her apprentice and his family. E’kari has come to respect Willow a great deal, so much so that she’s offered the Roegadyn a teaching position at her school upon its completion.
Nevrynn Alarone - While E'kari initially mistrusted the Seeker for his roguish persona and wanderlust, in resent months she has come to warm up to her sister's mate. Though she may not know him as well as she might like, he makes her sister happy. And the affection between the two are plain to see.
Jake Jakkya - A red-lenses wearing void-mage who has spent a great deal of his life as a pit fighter. This spellsword is particularly close to E'kari's adopted mother, Nack, which makes him a brother of sorts. E'kari sorely wishes he would be less devil-may-care in demeanor at times, or at least care a bit more about his own life. She's always pleased when he pops up unharmed now and again. This former criminal has been blacklisted from Heartwood for his criminal debts to the Syndicate--though he has since paid them back in full, becoming an ally to the group.
Ash Valken - The tall, brooding brother of Nyscera who has a strong dislike for Rath. E'kari met this former bandit spying on her a few times. Eventually the two had a sit-down conversation and became close--which was a new thing for the Au'Ra. E'kari taught Ash how to play a grasswhistle, fixed his broken hearing-aid and engaged in a playful spar. Somehow, in one way or another, most of their interactions end in awkward sexual-tension. The day Ash left Heartwood, E'kari gave him a necklace made from a strap of her doctor's bag to remember her by and encouraged him to follow his dreams.
Akiyuki Okuma - The large, quiet, but overall pleasant husband of Cio who has joined Heartwood since his marriage to the plucky, pastel nursemaid. This reserved Au'Ra is a welcome addition to the family.
Kenoni Eien’no - The betrothed of her friend Moralee. A stern and stoic acquaintance but never the less, E'kari admires his loyalty and commitment to Mordry. She hopes the two will have a wonderful life together with their child.
J'edite Shedai - A fellow enthusiast of martial arts that spends most of her time roaming Thanalan seeking glory for the Jackal tribe. The two have had run-ins here and there as J'edite was on hunts and once sparred under the Sultan tree. The Seekers employ very different styles of their own making: while E'kari fights with her heavy handed "Golem Step" ideal for doing battle with armed and armored foes; J'edite uses fast kicks transitioning into fluid jabs in her "Fire Dancer" style that proves to be the bane of slower opponents. As it stands the two are friendly rivals.
Alpon Adpon - The Pink Punisher! E'kari has met this "battle-chef" in passing more than once. The lalafell's skill in combat seems to rival his culinary prowess.
Namaka Ebisu - A strange and sweet water-sprite who lives in a fountain. You want tree slugs? Because this is how you get tree slugs.
Alistar Stormfist - Found by Heartwood on the road to Little Ala Mhigo, this former Garlean slave was near death and wearing a magitek collar. With no where else to go and no life to return to, this gentle giant returned with the caravan to the Heartwood Homestead.
Lucinda Kovix - This kindly and capable, Ishgardian drifter met Doctor Sol as she was returning from conversing with the Everschade and her husband's chocobo ran off. Lucinda and E'kari worked together to catch the bird and got to talking about Lucy's need for work and also to find her missing brother. The Miqo'te has since come to stay at Heartwood which has overjoyed E'kari.
L'nela Varya - A one-eyed woman who really enjoys taking a bite out of life! In all seriousness--L'nela is a chipper and quirky person. A little emotional at times, but rightfully so; as her recent years have been filled with trauma. Both physical and emotional. Careful, she likes to nibble!

Disliked

Tharl Oom Khash - NPC - A being made of corruption who takes his name from his place of creation. While to most guardians of the Shroud he would be a natural enemy anyway--this thing has taken a special and terrible shine to tormenting E'kari and all of Heartwood. His track record of terrible deeds is staggering and body count ever on the rise. His most memorable in E'kari's mind were her children, Sagu'a and Cize. The vengeful mother aided in his demise by pummeling him with special stones--from Tynos and Kaiya--she formed into barbaric gauntlets.

The Pumpking - NPC - This strange and otherwordly being was initially just an unsettling presence that occasionally appeared in the Heartwood halls offering bargains for steep moral prices. It was not until this squash-headed man manipulated Tustin Lafell into a contract that he became E'kari's enemy. The Seeker used excessive force against the entitiy, beating him into a puddle of black ooze. He has since returned to haunt Heartwood, though has stifled a sum of E'kari's animosity toward him by fixing her carbuncle's shattered gem and helping finish off Khash for good.

Character Trivia

E'kari refers to people as 'master' or 'lady' because as a young newcomer to Gridania she was hazed by the local youths; who told her that it was how non-tribal people spoke to one another. Excited to make 'friends' the Seeker picked this up almost immediately. It was not until this was an ingrained habit that she learned it was all a ruse for E'kari to make a fool of herself every time she spoke.
Despite the skill not coming up particularly often, E'kari is adept at Thavnarian belly-dancing. This and many similar styles of celebratory dance were used among she and her kin in their tribal lands; though this is actually not their people's only connection to the middle east. The dress style, use of Alchemy and herbal medicines, even their taste in food has been greatly influenced by trade with Thavnair, much like many others who reside in Thanalan.
E'kari will often experience an inconsolable sense of dread when E'yami is in emotional distress or danger, even if they are far apart. This link between twins seems to go both ways.
Due to E'kari's heavy aspection to Earth she is notoriously difficult to knock off her feet and has immense stamina; adversely, she is not as quick as she'd like to be and swimming in deep water takes a significant amount of energy.
Though most are unaware--or attribute some of her mannerisms to merely being quirky--E'kari actually suffers from high functioning autism. Social queues tend to be her biggest hurdle, along with focusing on the big picture of tasks as opposed to minut details, and sorting out painful emotions.
