Raeventiel was born on the 16th Sun of the 1st Astral Moon into House Dzemael, one of the four ruling families of Ishgard. He is the youngest of Lord Vilikiss’s son and perhaps the feeblest due to an illness he suffers from since birth. While he is considered to be Ishgardian nobility, Raeventiel is honestly a lesser noble at best thanks to his father’s ties with that of the Holy See. Raised as a devout follower of the faith, Raeventiel spent most of his time locked away behind closed doors because of his illness. He was quite fond of books as a child and would often spend most of his days within his father’s study while his brothers wandered off for practice.

While his family wasn’t particularly wealthy, his family’s lineage was well-known. House Dzemael has always relied on the Beaudonets for support throughout the ages. All of the prominent male-figures in his house, including his father, were all Ishgardian Knights who served the Archbishop. While physical limitations stopped Raeventiel from pursuing his family’s dream, the young elezen attempted to make up for his shortcomings by studying the arcane. Black Mage is of course a rather taboo subject in Eorzea even to this day but with a little help from his older brother Morrigan and his father’s astute adviser; Raeventiel managed to learn.

After years of practice in secrecy, Raeventiel became the youngest thaumaturge to master the magical arts at age twelve. Even though his accomplishments were nothing short from astounding, Raeventiel never managed to win his father’s admiration. In Ishgard, sword and shield prevailed above all else and a mage like Raeventiel had no place there. With his accomplishment treated with total disregard by his father and brothers alike, Raeventiel was overcome with grief when he happened upon a wandering mage by the name of Qina’a.

Hailing south of the Highlands, Qina’a introduced himself to the young boy as bright-eyed adventurer seeking fame and glory. He claimed to have wandered out of the Twelveswood in hopes of finding new horizons elsewhere but instead found himself within the harsh mountains of Coerthas. He would tell fanciful stories about his life within the Shroud and speak fondly about Raeventiel’s skill over the arcane. The two became good friends but eventually their friendship blossomed into something far less innocent. Trouble brewed one his lord father learned of his infatuation over the wandering miq’ote.

News of his crime sent shock waves throughout all of Ishgard and left his family divided during the trials. All of his siblings except for Morgan turned their backs against him. No matter how much he pleaded for forgiveness, Raeventiel knew he was a marked man. Patricide is a crime worthy of death and shortly after the trial, he was sentenced to die. With only mere hours left in his young life, a gleam of hope appeared in the form of his brother. Morgan, against all better judgment, couldn’t sit back idly and watch his younger brother die at the gallows. While he didn’t quite forgive Raeventiel for killing their father, he did acknowledge that their father had always been unnecessarily cold towards his brother. The two of them escaped the city of Ishgard and fled towards the lowlands when the Templar finally caught wind of them.

The brothers eventually sought and found refuge within Gridania. It was none other than Mother Miounne herself who took in the two boys when they ventured into the Canopy covered in dirt and muck. While they were hesitant to trust her, Miounne’s nurturing nature eventually won them over. Raeventiel and Morgan stayed with Miounne under the guise that they were her nephews. They managed to stave off any suspicions despite their Duskwight heritage and blended in well with the Gridanians. Raeventiel would take odd menial jobs around town to earn money while Morgan would use his skills with the blade to earn a reputation amongst the Wood Wailers. Life within the Shroud was a peaceful one until word from Ishgard reached Gridania.

Knowing full well that they couldn’t live within Gridania forever, Morgan decided he would return to Ishgard to plead for mercy for Raeventiel’s behalf. Raeventiel begged for his brother not to go but Morgan saw no other choice. He believed that if he could plead forgiveness on his sibling’s behalf that perhaps the Archbishop would be compassionate enough to lesson Raeventiel’s sentence. Fearing for Morgan’s life, Raeventiel begged for his brother not to go but his pleas fell on deaf ears. Years passed since Raeventiel heard from Morgan. His brother’s venture back to Ishgard yielded no results. Ishgard had since closed its’ doors towards outsiders and Raeventiel is left wondering whether or not his brother lives.

:● [[Vilikiss Beaudonet]] [NPC] - Like any good son, Raeventiel desperately wanted nothing else in the world other than his father's approval. He grew up as the 'black sheep' of his family; the unwanted son that everyone of his relatives saw as nothing other than a troublemaker. Magic was highly frowned upon within the early years of his life, especially in Ishgard. The use of magic in Ishgardian society was deemed as shameful and borderline heresy by none other than the Holy See. The people of Ishgard were made to fear magic and all those who used it. Therefore, it only makes sense for Vilikiss to abhor such disgust for his son when he learns that Raeventiel was practicing the Dark Arts. While Raeventiel could certainly come to terms with why his father hated him so much, he still cannot forgive him for killing his mentor. No son should ever raise a sword to their father but Raeventiel did so out of revenge. His hatred for his father still plagues him to this day even after all these years.

It's said that Margery was a wandering merchant of low-birth who eventually befriended and married his father. His mother never played much of a role in his life considering she left him and his brother behind after their birth. No one knows why Margery suddenly left the Beaudonet household but Raeventiel honestly doesn't hold his mother with high regard.

Without Morrigan, Raeventiel would’ve surely ended up dead. Despite their father playing a big role in Raeventiel’s coming to age, it was Morrigan who cared for him and tried to protect him from father's wrath. Even when he was sentenced to death by the Holy See for the murder of their father, Morrigan sacrificed his own freedom and future to save Raeventiel. The twins had always been close since childhood and that closeness is what helped Raeventiel survive the earlier years of his life. It's because of that fact alone that Raeventiel literally holds nothing other than love and respect for his brother.

Raeventiel left the bounty hunting life in favor of more scholarly pursuits; while Morrigan pursued a career within the Brass Blades. The twins still remained rather close despite the fact they decided to embark upon different paths in life. This is why news of Morrigan’s death has honestly lead Raeventiel down a downward spiral. His brother met everything to him. Morrigan was both his brother and savior. He was the only person who ever truly loved him and without him, life is barely worth living.

[Lambert Delacroix]
+
Lambert was an old friend of the family who once served as Losstarot’s advisor. He later takes up the task of becoming Raeventiel’s mentor once the boy develops an unusual affinity to magic. While Ishgard doesn’t necessarily ban the practice of magic within its borders; magic itself was still frowned upon by the Holy See. The brutal war between the Ishgardians and the Dravaians had led the people to believe that magic within itself is evil. It’s because of their dislike for magic that those who share a strong affinity to aether are usually heavily scrutinized by their peers. Thus when Raeventiel displayed a strong fortitude in magic, his father asked for Lambert’s assistance to ensure that the boy’s secret wouldn’t be learned.
+
Lambert taught Raeventiel how to control and conceal his talents in hopes of hiding the boy away from the watchful gaze of the Holy See. However, Lambert wasn’t watchful enough. Once the Order of the Watchers, an ancient cult known for their allegiance with the Dravaians grabbed ahold of Raeventiel; Lambert was unable to protect the boy. They kidnaped Raeventiel just shy of his fourteenth birthday and planned the use the boy's phenomenal powers to usurp the Holy See.
+

+
Did you have a childhood enemy? Who were they?
+
The Order of the Watchers is a cult of ancient sorcerers who believe in only anarchy. In their teachings, chaos is the only balance there is, and without it the world is plunged into darkness. They believe that men should be free of sovereignty and all of political bureaucracy. Their beliefs may seem noble to some but their methods is what makes them quite a dangerous lot. They’re not above killing innocents or sacrificing children for their gain. However, what they did to Raeventiel was far crueler than death. With the usage of old magic, they mentally enslaved the boy and used him to slay his own parents. From there, they had Raeventiel play the role of the pawn in attempts to resurrect one of their fallen masters. If it hadn’t been for Morrigan’s interference, Raeventiel would’ve remained under their control.

Has your character started their own family? If not, do they want to start one? Does your character’s family want them to settle down and start a family?

Please describe your character's progression through their class(es)/job(s), and what they believe their profession is about. If your character has tried more than one class/job and not kept up with it, please explain how they went from that profession to their current profession: Give us your IC reasons for your class and job choices. Combat and Crafting professions are valid.
+
Did your character have a mentor/master/teacher oversee their introduction to their class(es)/job(s)? Even if you were taught by a class guild, explain how you learned your trade.
+
Is your master/mentor still part of your life? If not, explain what happened to cause your character to part ways with them.
+
How does your character view other classes/jobs aside from those they follow? Even the smallest opinion helps.
+
Are there any classes/jobs that they dislike? Why? If they do not dislike other classes/jobs, please say so.
+
What special qualities does your character possess? These don't necessarily have to be connected to your class/job.
+

+

+
What is your character’s general appearance?
+
The first thing anyone notices about Raeventiel is his rather ‘small’ stature. He’s perhaps the shortest Elezen you’ve ever see, and he often gets mistaken for a youth despite the fact he wears his age clearly upon his face. He’s androgynous fellow standing at a meager six-foot-one, possessing stylishly long wavy hair. Raeventiel’s hair is as dark as obsidian with silver highlights that peek out on the end of every strand. His blue eyes are quite slanted and narrow giving him a slightly catlike appearance. He typically wears all black despite his fondness for gold and silver.
+
Does your character have any distinguishing marks that are not typically visible? N/A
+
How does your character dress? Pictures are welcome here as well, but we again want written descriptions too.
+

+

+
What is your character's moral code? How does your character define right from wrong?
+
Will you always see a task or quest through? Raeventiel has a tendency to “start" projects but rarely does he ever finish them. He lacks dedication to actually finish any task or quest without proper incentive. In short, Raeventiel can be easily distracted if he's not focused enough on the task at hand.
+
Under what conditions will your character kill? To Raeventiel, killing is merely a part of life. He's not hesitant to kill anyone but he doesn't enjoy killing at all. Unless his staring into the maw of Leviathan or the such, Raeventiel would rather find an alternate solution that doesn't involve killing other people. However, he's known to be quite ruthless when dealing with the Beast Tribe folks. He's not particularly kind to their kind because of past dealings with them.
+
Under what conditions will your character steal? Sometimes, theft becomes a necessity - explain what would cause your character to commit such.
+
Under what conditions will your character lie? Raeventiel doesn’t make it a habit to lie normally. However if he must, it will always be for the benefit of someone else and not himself. In his belief, Raeventiel doesn’t need to lie and is more than willing to unveil the ugly truth rather than play the role of the liar. Though with that stated, Raeventiel would only lie if someone’s life truly depended on it. Trust is something that Raeventiel doesn’t take lightly, and he would hate to lose the trust of his friends or allies over a little white lie.
+
When is violence a useful solution for your character? Sometimes, violence is unavoidable.
+
What drives your character crazy? List off your pet peeves and what annoys you.
+
What is it your character simply cannot do? Explain why your character cannot do such as well.
+
What is your character’s biggest anxiety? Everyone has some sort of fear, even if they cannot admit it to themselves.

Does money run through your fingers? Whether from legitimate purchases or things like gambling, tell us how good your character is with money.
+
What does your character love? This question primarily focuses on objects or pets.
+
Do they love a particular place? This can be an in-game location or "off-screen" location.
+
Do they love a particular food or drink? There's a wide variety of cuisine in Eorzea - don't limit yourself to the basics.
+
Does your character love another person? Whether they're still in the character's life or not, mention them. Let us know if this person is an NPC or a PC, and if they're in play or created.
+
What do they love to do for recreation? Life isn't all work, tell us what your character does in their downtime.
+
What does your character hate? Or at the very least, dislike.
+

+

+

+
Are you good at negotiating deals? Business deals, mediating heated situations, and more.
+
Would your character ever knowingly make a deal with an enemy Beastman Tribe, Garlean, or other undesirable of Hydaelyn? Whether they're small deals to get out of a bind, or deals that will threaten Eorzea's safety, we want to know.
+
Does your character panic under stress? If your character doesn't, how do they keep calm?
+
Does your character speak their mind at the wrong moments or make some other social faux pas?
+
Raeventiel is rather socially awkward; ridiculously so. He doesn’t like to bring people close to him, and at the same time he craves attention. He utterly detests being pushed out of the limelight
+
Everyone has a few mannerisms unique to them. Describe three for your character: Speech patterns, physical ticks, odd habits.

What is your character's attitude toward other races such as the Padjal, the Domans, the Beastmen Tribes, the Garleans, ect.? Basically, their views on the myriad of NPC races.

+
What are your character’s spiritual beliefs? Either their religious or philosophical beliefs.
+
Which of the Twelve does your character acknowledge? Which of the Twelve do you want nothing to do with or don't believe exist? Raeventiel is a devout follower of Halone, the Goddess of War. It’s because of his Ishgardian heritage that he believes so faithfully in Halone. In the same breath, his devotion to Halone also fuels his misguided dislike for Nophica, the Farmer. While he does somewhat admire Gridanian culture, Raeventiel still doesn’t acknowledge Nophica as a goddess because she is Halone’s rival.
+
If your character follows one of the Twelve, which acts of devotions did your character already accomplish in the name of their patron? Tell us about your works in the name of the Twelve.
+
How does your character feel about technology, both Garlean and from the Ironworks? What about Allagan and Sharlayan technology? Magitek is a part of the world. Explain your character's thoughts on the subject.
+
What has your character done in the pursuit of technology? Even donating to Garlond Ironworks counts.

Are you willing to have your character receive minor injury? This question focuses on things like cuts, bruises, scrapes, etc.
+
Are you willing to have your character receive major injury? Broken limbs, maimed body parts, etc that heal without many traces.
+
Are you willing to have your character be temporarily disabled or incapacitated? Serious injury that typically results in bed rest and possibly permanent scarring or damage.

Are you willing to have your character be maimed/mauled? Similar to the above, but definitely resulting in permanent damage or scars.
+
Are you willing to eventually have your character die? Again, we will never kill a character off without the player's consent.

Character Quote

"There's certainly quite an alarming number of 'turn-keys' here rather than cutthroats. Should I be concerned?" —Raeventiel Beaudonet

Character

Name Etimology

His given name "Raeventiel" is a play on the feminine name "Raevyn" which means "Raven". Oddly enough origins of Raeventiel’s name don’t just stop there. While I initially desired a name to be just as dark and mysterious as my character, I soon learned that his name Raeventiel sounds suspiciously like the Norwegian phrase “Reven till” which is loosely translated: “As a fox” or “Of a Fox”.

Nicknames

Raeventiel dons a few nicknames that hail from his heydays as a bounty hunter. His professional bounty hunting alias was the "Mad Hound". Eventually his companions saw him less like a "hound" and more like an dainty "swan" instead. While the nickname "Mad Swan" has a bit of a ring to it, Raeventiel honestly despise that nickname is quick to correct those who call him that either with words or force.

Current Residence

Mist, Limsa Lominsa

Personality

The first thing anyone may notice about Raeventiel's personality is his somewhat harsh demeanor. The sorcerer isn't the kind of man to hold back his words, and is quick to judge as much as he's quick to dislike. He's brash and bold, a combination that doesn't always go well. While's he's not exactly a bad or unfriendly person per se, Raeventiel certainly comes with a whole network of flaws that he covers up with his assumed lordliness. The Elezen carries himself with a form of "arrogance" that would undoubtedly irritate others.

Art of Raeventiel by Amo

He's distant and emotionless to some degree. Hardly willing to let go of his mask of arrogance. Raeventiel takes himself too seriously, almost to the point that it's nearly laughable at times. He's quick to anger, but slow to forgive. Definitely rather immature and heavily flawed in that way. The Elezen is known to hold a grudge for the pettiest of reasons, and sometimes act on them. Quite delightful, no? His childish and arrogant ways certainly land him within a world of trouble, but Raeventiel can be quite charming when he wants to be. It's just a shame that majority of them time he acts as if he's too good for this damn world, and everyone in it.

The reason behind his behavior is quite simple; he's been hurt.

The wounds of his miserable childhood still haunt Raeventiel to this very day. He's a wounded man who has yet to come to terms with his role behind his father's death and the love he lost. Raeventiel is still very much in mourning despite seeming quite the opposite at times. His unwillingness to discuss the trauma of his past makes it almost impossible for others to understand him. He doesn't like opening up to others regarding his past, and especially dislikes opening his heart. Raeventiel is a very afraid of what others were to say if they ever come to learn of his past, and is quick to push people away. As of lately, Raeventiel has found it increasingly more difficult to hide the trauma of his past before others. More so than ever before, Raeventiel is realizing that his proud and arrogant mask is slowly crumbling. It's becoming more apparent that beneath all that unnecessary bravado lies a young man who's honestly terrified of the world around him.

Raeventiel is a driven and avid practitioner of the arcane arts. His greatest joy in life is studying within the grand halls of Arrzaneth's Ossuary alongside his fellow thaumaturges. He likes to be alone, and often enjoys reading a book or tome more so than interacting with others. However, his preference for solitude is rather contradictory at best. He's lonesome, terribly lonesome. His fascination over books is driven by his own lonesomeness. It's easier for him to lose himself in a good story than it is for him to make friends. Not many people are willing to put up with someone as woefully bratty as Raeventiel.

Many simply roll their eyes or storm away. His lonesomeness definitely his fault since, to a degree, Raeventiel doesn't know how to talk to people. He's so busy trying to make himself seem superior to all, that he often ends up irritating others. Some humbling is sorely needed before Raeventiel can see the fault in his ways. While he's not exactly mean-spirited, the Elezen certainly lacks a certain level of respect for others.

History

Before Dalamud's Fall

Early Childhood'

Raeventiel was born on the 16th Sun of the 1st Astral Moon into House Beaudonet.

The Child Mage

After years of practice in secrecy, Raeventiel became the youngest thaumaturge to master the magical arts at age twelve. Even though his accomplishments were nothing short from astounding, Raeventiel never managed to win his father’s admiration. In Ishgard, sword and shield prevailed above all else and a mage like Raeventiel had no place there. With his accomplishment treated with total disregard by his father and brothers alike, Raeventiel was overcome with grief when he happened upon a wandering mage by the name of Tefh’a.

Hailing south of the Highlands, Tefh’a introduced himself to the young boy as bright-eyed adventurer seeking fame and glory.

Having shamed his family for the second time, Lord Vilikiss cast out his youngest son and had his alleged lover hunted. Ishgard has always possessed little fondness for outsiders but even so for those who toy with magic. Named a heretic by the Holy See, Tefh’a was found and put to death in a mock trial that shook Raeventiel’s faith. Having lost the only person who ever brought him joy, Raeventiel confronted his father and murdered him using he very magic his father hated so much.

Having no time to reflect upon his hasty decision, Raeventiel was apprehended by the Templar.

Imprisonment & Freedom

News of his crime sent shock waves throughout all of Ishgard and left his family divided during the trials. All of his siblings except for Morrigan turned their backs against him. No matter how much he pleaded for forgiveness, Raeventiel knew he was a marked man. Patricide is a crime worthy of death and shortly after the trial, he was sentenced to die. With only mere hours left in his young life, a gleam of hope appeared in the form of his brother. Morrigan, against all better judgment, couldn’t sit back idly and watch his younger brother die at the gallows. While he didn’t quite forgive Raeventiel for killing their father, he did acknowledge that their father had always been unnecessarily cold towards his brother. The two of them escaped the city of Ishgard and fled towards the lowlands when the Templar finally caught wind of them.

Embracing the magicks within himself.

The brothers eventually sought and found refuge within Gridania. It was none other than Mother Miounne herself who took in the two boys when they ventured into the Canopy covered in dirt and muck. While they were hesitant to trust her, Miounne’s nurturing nature eventually won them over. Raeventiel and Morrigan stayed with Miounne under the guise that they were her nephews. They managed to stave off any suspicions despite their Duskwight heritage and blended in well with the Gridanians. Raeventiel would take odd menial jobs around town to earn money while Morrigan would use his skills with the blade to earn a reputation amongst the Wood Wailers. Life within the Shroud was a peaceful one until word from Ishgard reached Gridania.

Knowing full well that they couldn’t live within Gridania forever, Morrigan decided he would return to Ishgard to plead for mercy for Raeventiel’s behalf. Raeventiel begged for his brother not to go but Morrigan saw no other choice. He believed that if he could plead forgiveness on his sibling’s behalf that perhaps the Archbishop would be compassionate enough to lesson Raeventiel’s sentence. Fearing for Morrigan’s life, Raeventiel begged for his brother not to go but his pleas fell on deaf ears. Years passed since Raeventiel heard from Morrigan. His brother’s venture back to Ishgard yielded no results. Ishgard had since closed its’ doors towards outsiders and Raeventiel is left wondering whether or not his brother lives.

Vilikiss Beaudonet [NPC] - Like any good son, Raeventiel desperately wanted nothing else in the world other than his father's approval.
Margery Beaudonet [NPC] - Raeventiel barely knows anything about his mother other than her name and legendary beauty.
Morrigan Beaudonet - One of the pivotal figures from his childhood is none other than his twin brother, Morrigan.

[Lambert Delacroix] Lambert was an old friend of the family who once served as Losstarot’s advisor.

Did you have a childhood enemy? Who were they?

Under what conditions will your character steal? Sometimes, theft becomes a necessity - explain what would cause your character to commit such.
