And though for the larger races it might be otherwise difficult to tell, she is built a touch more broadly than many of them as well. Yet, despite growing up in the harsh heat of Thanalan her entire life, her skin retaines a much fairer shade of cream than it should have. Wide, wine red coloured eyes are the most prominent feature on her round face, followed by the ease with which she tends to flush red when exerting herself. Her face free of obvious scars only, truly, due to incredible luck and care during her military career, it is otherwise shaped by glossy, straw-coloured hair. Its length extends past her shoulders, but the Dunesfolk always keeps it tied up except for very special occasions: opting to wear it in twintails of various styles. A shaggy fringe falls and ends just above her eyes. Though this style of wearing one's hair is nothing unusual among the Lalafell, it tends to give an impression to some that Momone is much younger than she actually is. Momone is a modest woman, and the extremity of her wardrobe only extends to wearing a somewhat low-cut jacket as part of her uniform when working within the Rendezvous Host Club. She would almost never be seen wearing any type of dress or skirt, though has no qualms about showing her femininity through a choice of colours; pinks and purples being two of her favourites. Her attire outside of battle is always comfortable, with fancies or ornamentation a second thought. The scars that she does bear are often enough to be covered up by her clothing, though a visible gash along her outer right wrist and hand remains from an injury in years gone by. Underneath, she also sports several scars dotted across her abdomen: puncture wounds and various slashes as testaments to previous skirmishes and battles. Unseen and unknown to all but a very, very select few, she also bears a strange mark on the underside of her right toe, in seemingly black ink. Personality Momone is a former Sultansworn turned Free Paladin. However, despite the transition, one shouldn't be fooled; the way of the paladin is not just a job to this Dunesfolk, but an entire way of life. Thus, she has very strong notions of what it means to be a knight and holds herself to an extremely high standard of what that entails: courtesy, kindness, holding one's word as their bond, duty, and self-sacrifice. Momone was so committed to this ideology for a time that, after first ascending to the Sultansworn, she also adopted the archaic form of the common tongue for her speech to pay tribute to the storied knights and first Sultansworn of old. Though she was first ridiculed for it, she endured in adopting it, and used it for several years. She has recently dropped its usage and returned to speaking in her normal vernacular, but her commitments to the other tenants of duty have not wavered in the slightest. If she feels she had erred or misstepped in line with these beliefs, she is absolutely hardest on herself: even if the general population would think the matter trivial. Further to her duty, Momone puts great personal stock in the power of one's word and of Oaths. If she pledges her service to someone, or volunteers to assist someone else, her word will be her bond without question. Conversely, when she sought release from her service as a Sultansworn to become a Free Paladin in light of the greater circumstances with the Rendezvous of Stars, she carried deep personal guilt over the decision to ask to be released from it. Despite the support she has received from friends, and eventually coming to peace with her decision, she still expects that she will have to answer to the Twelve at the end of her life for the reasons she broke her Oath. Momone receives great personal satisfaction from listening and possibly helping with the troubles of others. At heart, she is very much a 'giver'. To her, a quiet smile from someone or a simple 'thank you' are often all the reward she feels necessary. To that end, though she is exceedingly charitable herself, she grows embarrassed when charity is given to her in kind, and privately views the kindnesses she receives from others as a sort of debt she should seek to repay. The same can be said for the individuals in whom she decides to confide her private concerns and troubles. She struggles to view such relationships as symbiotic; rather, once something has been given to her - be it advice, a physical gift, or simply friendship - she feels beholden to pay it back even more. Much within the same logic is why despite nearly being 40 years old, she has never been able to be the first confess feelings of romantic affection towards the men who have come into her life. In her eyes, to do so would be selfish and so, unsure of how to handle her emotions, she has quietly endured them all until, eventually, one of them acted first. The experience also eventually ended in heartbreak for the Lalafell, leaving her additionally wary about how to handle things if such a situation occurs again. Momone is attracted primarily to other Lalafellin men, but has also been attracted to Elezen, Midlanders and - only once - a Highlander. Current Situation Momone has recently been through a rather harrowing ordeal in relation to the ongoings with the Rendezvous of Stars, but has returned from the brink of death along with a group of her fellow kin. But although she is safe, she is not necessarily sound. She has become more religiously preoccupied, and has taken a greater interest in the philosophy of the Twelve and contemplation about where her soul will depart to at the end of her life. More notably for those who know her, she has done away with her archaic style of speech and returned to the vernacular she used before she first took her oaths as a Sultansworn. She has also begun to refuse to travel anywhere by aetheryte. Background Momone Mone was born and raised in Ul'dah, and has lived in or within the vicinity of the great City-State her whole life. The only child of a fishmonger and a seamstress with a prodigal talent for cooking, she was born into what would be described among the Ul'dahn people as a 'middle-class' family that was part of the merchant class. Earning most of their coin through selling fish, food, or tailoring work, the trio of them lived a relatively uncomplicated life set apart from the political machinations which truly ran the world in which they lived. As a girl, Momone was incredibly close to her family, and had the good fortune of growing up in a home with an equally loving mother and father. In her formative years, she was never far away from them, and in their shadows learned the basics of the trades which formed the foundation of their family's livelihood. Yet, of those skills, cooking was what took root in Momone. In her mother's kitchen, Momone was a constant shadow, eagerly helping to prepare pies and dishes made with the catch that her father brought each day. Yet culinary pursuits were not all that captivated her. The city's own Sultansworn were a focal point for girlish dreams of far-away fantasies of knights in gleaming armour, protecting the weak and helping those most in need. But her childish fantasies did not fade; they grew into a passion, and the stories and history of the noble order sworn to protect the lives of the royal family supplanted themselves in her heart. Convinced she had found her life's calling, she enlisted in the Immortal Flames at age 20 with the intention of shaping herself into the knight she wanted to be. Enlisting as a greenhorn with no martial experience at all, Momone resolved to learn the sword and shield from the beginning. Though hardly a quick study, she remained willfully determined to master the art, and initially made up for her physical weaknesses with tenacity. Training tirelessly while serving her duty, she eventually began to rise through the ranks of the Flames. At 27, she received her first promotion into the Sergeant ranks, and at 33 was promoted to Chief Flame Sergeant of her Unit. Through the years of service, her determination never faltered, and she became a mentor to training other greenhorn Flames. The political movements of the Sixth Astral Era, however, eventually brought the Garlean conflict to Ul'dah. As part of the grand alliance between Eorzea's Grand Companies, Momone Mone and her unit of the Flames marched on the Carteneau Flats. Though the Flames took heavy losses in all, Momone survived, and received her final promotion to Second Flame Lieutenant after. After helping to put the Flames back together in the wake of the Calamity, at the urging of her comrades, friends, and family who knew her dreams, Momone sought application to undergo the trials to become Sultansworn. Undertaken before the order's 'relaxing' of the trials, the training itself tested her martial prowess, her knowledge of the order's history, and her honour. One year later, Momone took her vows, becoming Sultansworn at age 36. However, in mysterious circumstances which baffled her fellow Sworn brothers and sisters, as well as her former comrades in the Flames, Momone submitted to Grandmaster Papashan to be released from her Oath and permitted to walk the path of the Free Paladin. Though he consented, the mystery behind why Momone seemed to throw away her lifelong dream only two years after attaining it remains unsolved. It is rumoured that she has been spending much of her free time at a Host Club situated in the Goblet, and that she may have given up on her training entirely to become a cook. However, eyewitnesses who are familiar with the Dunesfolk female also report that, within the last few moons, she has been seen travelling back and forth to Gridania with increasing frequency: even being seen wearing the garments of a fledgling conjurer. The two of them share a friendly rapport, and while Momone is dutiful and protective of the Keeper, Maia's pull in so many directions has not left a great amount of time for the pair to grow into true friends. ★● Anstarra Silverain The Seeker woman who 'discovered' Momone and her place within the Stars' shared destiny. After almost 40 years of failing to even take action on the various attractions she'd felt in her life, he did and she eventually found herself smitten with the Dunesfolk. But, the privateer's calling to the sea was far too strong, and Momone found herself left in the lurch, with only a note to say goodbye. The experience left her bitter - but on later finding that Yattaru met his end, her feelings regarding the man remain somewhat unresolved.
