Character

General

Nazyl is a Lalafell of simple origins, and thus leads a simple lifestyle, never giving much thought to his existence. He wanders from place to place, making gil by mining or protecting others, believing that his destiny is to become a great hero...and is finding it far more difficult than he thought. What he lacks in wits, he makes up for in physical prowess, and is hardly ever seen without his faithful chocobo, Turyl.

Appearance

Nazyl stands at about 3'4", slightly taller than most other Lalafells, tanned skin, and boasts a better body for physical work, his muscles (as much as a Lalafell can have) are defined, allowing him the energy for a long day of work. Earthen brown hair is cut short, frizzed about his head, and comes down into two bushy mutton chops on his cheeks, which he is immensely proud of. Freckles dot his face and slightly darkened nose, and a blood red symbol is painted across his face, going over his verdant eyes. It's the mark of a Behemoth in his village, a symbol of strength. What he wears goes with what he's doing for the day. When he mines, he dresses in heavy dark blue cloth, padded and plated to prevent harm, lantern and hammers at his side. He usually dons a metal helmet with a light for dark caves and the like. For battle, he dresses in shining blue Templar like armor, reminiscent to the paladin gear the elite of the Sultansworn wear. Highly durable and flexible, it's accompanied by a shimmering longsword and equally impressive kite shield.

Behaviour

Nazyl is very friendly and optimistic, not afraid to walk up and start chatting with another. He speaks in a thick country accent, which tends to throw people off, and has trouble pronouncing words over three syllables long. He's rather simple minded, and is easily tricked into schemes and traps, but has a strong sense of justice, and will do absolutely anything to protect those he cares about. He's not much for starting unnecessary conflicts, and has a weakness for women, turning into a gentleman when one appears.

Combat

While Nazyl has traveled far and wide in Eorzea, and experienced many threats, he isn't very well versed in swordplay. He still becomes fearful and afraid when faced with something that can possibly kill him, and tends to stick with low paying jobs to ward away barely harmful creatures. After a fatal encounter with two thieves, killing them made him question his place in the world. Since he had never killed in his life, he wondered if maybe this wasn't the profession for him, but has decided to stick with it regardless, and vowed to be a master swordsman. After donning the Onion armor, his courage has doubled, making him more likely to attack in a fight. This has no real effect on his skill, but it does make him slightly more dangerous. Numerous bouts in the Wolves' Den has done little for the Lalafell in terms of combat. While he is far better than he previously ever was, there is still nothing to praise about his swordsmanship.

Friends & Acquaintances

Onuma Ahntifi - He met her during a mining expedition in Coerthas, and mistook her for a beast during a snowstorm. He, along with his chocobo, helped her out of the freezing weather and into warmth. After his escape from Coerthas, he fears running into her again. What sort of wrath would she impart on the boy for abandoning his post?
Lo'tanto Jiub - By the request of Onuma, Nazyl had his small chocobo carry the barely moving Miqo'te to safety and a doctor in Coerthas. He was only glad he made it in time to see him treated, and even though he knows little of the man, Nazyl considers him a friend. After his escape from Coerthas, he wishes to hide from anyone he was acquainted with at the time, including this Keeper.
Surilian Blu - A Miqo'te girl Nazyl met while he stayed in Ul'dah for a time. He began to chat with her, unknowing of any secrets she might possess, and learned a good deal about both himself and her. He likes her for her innocence, and has promised to be a hero, if only for her. Now serving under her in a company of fighters and treasure hunters, he loyally carries out each duty he's assigned.
X'linwh Tia - A young Miqo'te Nazyl seemed to find often, a young man which reminds the Lalafell of one of his friends back home. After a tragic encounter in Stone Vigil, the Miqo'te, and one of Nazyl's first real friends, has died. The lalafell has sworn revenge on the dragon that killed him, and curses himself for not being able to protect him.
Kodaro Ba'rococo - Nazyl found this man intriguing mostly for his surname, which sounded strangely Lalafellin. After a strange encounter in the streets of Ul'dah, he sees the Miqo'te as a brotherly protector and looks up to him. After the incident in Coerthas, he has not seen or heard of Kodaro or anyone belonging to that caravan, and for his own sake, wishes to keep it that way.
Rhesh'ir Zhwan - A man Nazyl seems curious about, but never met him in depth. Everyone he knows seems to look up to the sweet talking man, but is still wary of him due to the Lalafell's lack of knowledge.
Tahla'li Tayuun - Another young Miqo'te Nazyl knows little about. After a strange encounter in Ul'dah's streets, he was whisked away to a home with this man and several other Miqo'te. He didn't speak much, but seemed to be attached to the males...
Rah'na Lihzeh - Yet another young Mi'qote, Nazyl wasn't afraid to introduce himself during a strange incident in Ul'dah. The boy seems to be the quiet type, and keeps to himself. Since Nazyl knows little of the kit, he keeps him at arm's length.
Alex Castell - A young Hyur woman Nazyl found while training with his group on an expedition to Coerthas, and proceeded to make himself known to her. He learned much about her, and became sympathetic to her story, more than willing to help her with any problem she might have. While she is seen as a thief in the eyes of the others, he sees someone who can change, and is striving to help her do so.
Astrelle Valtin - An Elezen Nazyl met in the Shroud, a Thaumaturge and Archer bent on mastering her art in the two schools. A recent incident involving her going mad and ranting about voidsent made him wary of the Elezen...and her even more recent outbursts of frustration have put him at arm's length with the woman. Seeing as she was growing fond of Mijisaa, Nazyl's trust in the Elezen has begun to dwindle. After she disappeared mysteriously, Nazyl began to wonder what happened...but put no thought into it, as he wanted no more to do with her.
Mijisaa Qisaa - It was a refreshing sight to see another lalafell...if only her methods were more people oriented. Seeing her in Ul'dah after his escape from Coerthas, he has become extremely afraid of this woman, and constantly watches his back within the city. After talking to her repeatedly, it seemed she was rather forgiving of Nazyl's leave. He was certain she would brand him a deserter and have him hunted, but this was not the case. He is slowly developing trust for her.
Pipituu Kipichuu - Another Lalafell who seems carefree about life, but tends to be straight to the point, which makes Nazyl curious. The fact he's married to Mijisaa however, makes Nazyl question this man's motives.
Sharon Drennstead - A Highlander Hyur Nazyl met in La Noscea, who seems to have similar values as the Lalafell. She likes to tease the boy, but it's all in good fun. Her combat skill with an axe makes him most impressed, and has him working harder with a sword. After several battles and travels, the lalafell sees the tower of a woman as his sister, and respects her immensely.
Velala Vela - A fellow Plainsfolk, Nazyl quickly grew fond of the older woman in the Sagolii Desert, her healing and fascination with old ruins and scriptures both beneficial to Nazyl's goal. He has often followed her to trade with goblins, explore ruins and other lands, and even trained with her. Vowing to stay by her side after a dark and evil Elezen placed a curse on Velala, Nazyl's learned much about the woman. So much, that he certainly wouldn't mind spending the rest of his life beside her.
Bethany Drennstead - Only introducing herself as "Violet", the Midlander Hyur attacked Nazyl on a La Noscean road and demanded his goods. After a stout defense, they both realized that suns before, they had met and exchanged words with each other. He considers her a friend worth helping, and Nazyl proudly calls himself part of her crew.
Zex'amle Del'furion - An eccentric Elezen noble with a firm grasp on thaumaturgy, he intimidated Nazyl with his intelligence and skill. Employed by the man for various jobs, he visits his manor often, wondering what sort of dark secrets may lie within.
K'aliva Tyaodah - A Miqo'te down on her luck, she had everything taken from her after being denied access to Limsa. Nazyl felt sorry for the girl and offered to hunt down the thieves responsible for her misfortune. Her constant reassurance after his breakdown made her like an older sister to Nazyl.
Umi kanzato - A Miqo'te with a rather strange name, Nazyl met this Keeper of the Moon while foraging for less than legal herbs with Bethany. Her straightforward attitude and stern tone make him uncomfortable, and the name she assigned to him, 'Wind-up Toy', has him annoyed. Despite this, she seems well meaning, and Nazyl is always one to give the benefit of the doubt.
Ichiro Wolfson - A Highlander Hyur from the Far East. It didn't take long for the lalafell to realize how trained and disciplined the man was, impressed with the skill he has with a spear. Learning much of his culture, Nazyl became even more curious, as it seemed Ichiro's home wasn't so different from his own. He seeks to learn more about the man.

Enemies & Rivals

Adol Urigran - A mysterious knight that appeared in the Sanctum of the Twelve as Nazyl was praying. Without a moment's notice, he attacked the lalafell and nearly killed him. Sharon managed to drive this midlander Hyur off, but his words still ring in Nazyl's head....just what was this man planning?

History/Timeline

Nazyl comes from the islands far south of Eorzea, where many Lalafells originated. Working as a farmhand for fifteen years, he led a simple life with dreams of one day being a mighty hero, leading a group of young Lalafellin boys into caves and forests with little more than twigs to fight imaginary monsters. He was a prankster that liked to show the boys a good time tipping Aldgoats, putting spices in people's breakfast, and other harmless jokes that tended to get him in trouble. While he grew up, he was taught humility and manners by his parents, who were strict, but wanted him to have a childhood. In his teens, he, along with the others in his little village, noticed a certain moon getting bigger...or was it getting closer?

As the moon Dalamud edged ever closer, Nazyl began to have strange dreams. One in particular, repeated several times and became clearer and clearer over the course of his teen years, involving a great light, and a great darkness, and the silhouette of a spiked warrior siding with the light, about to clash with the darkness. The dream always ended right before the clash, and the boy would wake up in a cold sweat. It was clearest on that fateful day, when the Battle of Carteneau took place. After Nazyl had awoken from his dream, he took to the orchards to pick fruits for his family, and hefted the sack toward his home after he was done. The moon was closer than it had ever been in years....and then the unthinkable happened. It exploded. Nazyl watched in both awe and horror as the red moon was dismantled, and from its remains a great dragon, one told in legend, threw itself into the sky and lit up the night air. Fire destroyed everything around it, and it was as if the world itself shuddered in response. Trees died, plants wilted, and the villagers ran screaming for their lives. A piece of the destruction, Mega-flare, made its way to the tiny village, planting a fiery crystal smack dab in the middle of it. It was a night Nazyl would never forget.

Five years had past since the calamity, and the young Lalafell was ready to depart. In the garb the village guards wore, he took up a rusted sword his father had kept for personal safety. After saying his tearful goodbyes to his parents, he told the village he would return bearing fortune and fame, promising he would be a great hero. He set north in a trade ship to Eorzea, where he would be bound for Ul'dah. It wasn't until he arrived that he found out keeping his promise was harder than he ever thought possible.

When he arrived in the desert, the heat was enough to make him pass out on the caravan, where he dreamt clearly of his vision before. The shadowed knight, throwing himself against a black void, with light behind him burning bright. He questioned its meaning yet again as he awoke in a sweat, now at the gates of the great city. He brushed it off and began showing himself off to the people, taking up jobs to rid the gates of pests such as marmots and the like. He charged outside with no knowledge on how to fight, and was trounced by the critters before he could raise his weapon. The refugees staying outside the city took him in and nursed him back to health, since the Brass Blades would leave him for dead. When he was able to walk again, he decided to take up a pick and help the poor gain income for housing to repay them for taking care of him. He became a skilled miner and had taken to selling his work for profit to help him along. As a side job, he puts himself out as an escort to protect supply caravans or take out pests, and is slowly becoming better at swordsmanship. A wanderer wearing his heart on his sleeve, he travels the realm in hopes of quelling what darkness may hide beneath it.
