Height: 5'8"

Race: Miqo'te -- Keeper of the Moon

Eye Color: Green

Hair Color: Grey

Hair Style: Short and choppy.

Skin color: A dark black/blue.

Distinguishing features: He walks with a cane, as he is missing a leg. Sometimes he wears a prosthetic however usually goes without. He also wears brightly coloured blue face paints to connect spiritually with Menphina.

How he dresses: He mostly wears long robes or thick jackets when in the city states or doing work. He covers himself much more when he is working; especially when he is doing the rites or cleansing a corpse. He almost always wears gloves for this reason, and a pair of glasses or shades depending on the time of day.

Mannerisms: When a word is stuck on the tip of his tongue, he tends to oddly wiggle his fingers. He has been making more ear and tail movements as silent communication, though moreso when hunting or irritated.

Hobbies: Only recently has he taken up botany so he can still live on the land and not need to hunt. His most encompassing hobby is his thaumaturgy.

Speech patterns: Naoh'ra speaks in a slow, calm voice most of the time. He does not use contractions as his first language doesn't have them at all, and using them feels weird to him. He can sometimes come off as rude, or a little too quiet at times. His voice is fairly raspy as he is around smoke and inscents much of the day and it hurts his throat.

3naoh.png

Educational Background: He has no formal schooling in maths and literature, though was recently taught how to read and write by a friend of his. He has been learning Thaumaturgy since he was 7 years old under his mother, and then refined his craft through the Order of Nald'thal as he grew older/practiced on his own.

Naoh'ra one of the numerous priests of the Order of Nald'thal. He has only recently finished his studies and often teaches those just starting out the basics of Thaumaturgy and it's history, as well as how to properly treat the dead. He even teaches those students how to give the funeral rites so as to ease the souls journey into Thal's realm. Because he was only recently ordained, he keeps his group of students small and his teaching is overseen by more experienced priests.

You can near always find him either in Ul'dah or in Camp Drybone's church, though he also travels around to more secluded area's so he may give the rites to the dead who can not be transported to the church itself. He lives and was born in the Shroud, however this is not an ideal place to find him as he travels and spends the majority of his time in ul'dah.

He dreams of having a large family and many children one day, but has been so engulfed in his work that he hasn't really tried to find mates who share those ideals.

In the past, he was a wanderer from the age of 15 when he could leave his clan and explore others. He has had many children with wonderful mothers that he is still in contact with and see's to this day. He is on good terms with a number of different clans, however his visits have been much more spread out as of recently.

More recently in an attempt to really hone his skills and find some adventure and excitement, he joined up with the Crescent Eminence to hunt voidsent. He has also begun building a new church for the Order of Nald'thal and will hold funerals and various other services within it's walls. Such as embalming and rites, filling out proper paper work and wills with the living, and keeping a bone room and morgue and lychyard within the property.

Naoh'ra struggled for a long time to find his connection to Menphina, and doubted she heard him or even loved him at all as he looked at the silent moon above. He would sit in the shroud in the dead of night and scream to her, cry, holler, sing and climb to the tippy tops of trees in an attempt to touch the moon, but she always ran away from him. He eventually started to paint himself more, or ritualistically dot his skin like stars with piercings to give her a home with him if he looked like the night sky, to which he has a large number of body piercings that do give this effect.

One day recently he went to stay at her stone in the snowy highlands. He sat there for ten days with only a few jackets and other warm clothes. He is unsure if it was a hallucination or if she had really come to see him, but he swears on his life she came to him. She touched his cheeks, kissed the top of his head and told him she loved him. He found complete joy in this and believes he's very special to her, and loves her very very dearly. He promptly returned home to pray in warmth to her, and is making an effort to emulate her and how she had treated him that brief time in the snowy night.

Naoh'ra believes 100% that the face paints are a form of communication to Menphina, and paints what he wants from her on his face. Whether that be a blessing of protection when wandering the night, of new beginnings, fertility, luck in the hunt, or even just to show his love for her. He often paints shooting stars, in hopes she will give him what he wishes for. He uses the blues as it was the same colour Naoh had used for her paints, though when asking for fertility and luck in finding a mate, he will use purple and violets.

Sometimes his paints are different as when he visits other clans, the women there tend to paint him up and he wears these with pride until he has to wash them off.

Ohndai.png

Naoh'ras clan hails from the far corners of East Shroud, their birthing place in a small area neat sweetbloom pier. They have formally lived in seclusion, however have recently opened up trade and work with both Gridania and the Order of Nald'thal as Naoh had pursued that path. They still live within the shroud together, most of the males that Naoh birthed wandering or left the clan long ago and the women keep their home and raise the young children and teens. Calamity devastated their numbers and they lost a great matron as the stars fell, but they have started to put together their lives and have been getting back together and reforming their roots.

They have many traditions and beliefs, and most follow and celebrate the Goddess Menphina. They respect the Twelve as equals, and have many stories and wonders about how they interact in the heavens.

Some traditions are practiced by all within the clan, and some are not. For instance, their clan all use a blue tinted paint they make from the flowers around their home, as well as some berries and pastes/clay or mud. They believe that the blue represents Menphina's good graces and moon beams, so they chose it as the colour to worship her.

Another tradition is celebrating the blood moon, seeing it as good luck from Menphina and a time of increased fertility and luck with child birthing. To celebrate this colour of the moon, they have a large fire, a feast of landtrap salad and antelope meat. They also drink special juices from various fruits freshly picked and squeezed only on that night. Following their feast, they dress in special clothing only to be worn for this celebration and all do a form of belly dance to honour Menphina, and to also show off or enhance their fertility visually. (I.E. showing off large hips for child birthing. performing special movements to convey both feminine and masculine traits.) They also do this dance to wish for luck, and can dance straight on into morning as if in a trance. Many will choose this night and celebration to mate if a traveling male from another tribe happened to visit on the night of the blood moon. Outside of this celebration, many are wary of breeding for fear that they will miscarry or displease the Goddess in some way, or that their child will suffer harm.

A habitual greeting of the Ohndai family is in the form of forehead booping, to show trust and respect and love to one another. This is typically done by pulling the other in and pressing the foreheads together, and keeping the eyes cloths to greet and say goodbies when one must leave.

Many in the Ohndai family practice Thaumaturgy, taught mostly by Naoh when she returned to the clan from Ul'dah and her studies. Many are very gifted in the art, and they look for mates who are as well hoping that Menphina will bless them with gifted children in the arts of Thaumaturgy. Only a couple, most of which are children under the age of 5 summers do not know thaumaturgy, but some choose not to follow the path for varied reasons.

The Ohndai clan does not wander often, and can be found in the same area's often. They do follow their food when needed if the herds move on to other area's, however they have mainly remained within the East Shroud.

The family follows a Matron, who is chosen as the first daughter of the previous matron, or, in the case the previous matron mothered no children or girls, the woman who is oldest or the most gifted in Thaumaturgy is chosen to be matron and speak for the clan when someone from the outside comes to them. She does not lead the clan so to speak, but she does act as a collective voice of her family to outsiders. Most respect her within the family, and look to her for guidance.

When breeding with outside males, they have a habit of painting him in the blue paints, as well as silver for luck and as a way of asking Menphina for luck in their time together, and for healthy and gifted children. Typically they paint the male with stars and a moon, as well as some local flowers or plant life, or just some swirling strokes of the brush as a form of creative blessing. This is also to bond with the male and when the mating is over, the women wash him off and celebrate. Any males coming to breed must be accepted by the whole clan, including the matron, to be able to bear children with the Ohndai.

The clan speaks the River Dialect (created by Pimrhi Dia) as a first language, and all know the common language around Eorzea due to their involvement with trade and the city states.

Family:

  • Naoh Ohndai: Mother, THE most wonderful lady ever to be.
  • Dhebi'a Lyehga: Father, never knew him growing up.

Naoh'ra has learned Thaumaturgy under Naoh since he was very young, and still uses and learns to this day. He only recently became a priest of the Order of Nald'thal, but has been working under the order as a teacher for a few years prior. Mostly he used his thaumaturgy practically while he lived in the Shroud, and would cook or hunt food with it.

He currently works in both Ul'dah and in Drybone, however as work calls him around he will often travel to other city states to tend to the dead there.

Surprisingly, he has found an odd comfort with those he works on and purifies, and enjoys learning and teaching Thaumaturgy to those who will pay and listen. He tends to be a little picky about his students however, and will often judge them at a first glance and test their core morals before he will accept them as a student. He teaches those peaceful Thaumaturges the very root of the art and does not typically teach others how to use it for it's more modern use in combat. He leaves that to Cocobuki in Ul'dah, and focus' on teaching his students how to preserve and tend to a body, not destroy it.

"A raging fire to cleanse the corpse; a freezing blizzard to halt corruption; a jolt of lightning to expel the sins of mortal life."

Some small Thaumaturgical facts below:

  • Aether pools within ones self swell in times of intense fear and duress (fire 3/thundercloud procs anyone?? :D)
  • There are 307 verses of funerary rites for the virtuous fallen.
  • Thaumaturgy: The Yawning Abyss was written by Zozomaya.
  • Priestess Mamane is strict about noise in the THM guild.
  • The last will and testament of a patron of the Ossuary, which contains a vengeance order – a service provided by the thaumaturges whereby revenge is exacted upon who or whatever took the life of the deceased. Mostly these are acted out against the wildlife of Thanalan, such as stray billygoats or other attackers. Rarely will the Order deal with a murderer.
  • Thaumaturges under the Order only accept laws from those with enough gil to 'pay a sultana's ransom', therefore they typically deal with the wealthy in ul'dah regarding the laws of the city.
  • Should a Thaumaturge not have an appropriate amount of aether reserves within their body to work with, they are likely to end up killing themselves if they try to force more than a small flicker of flame of spark of lightning. Straining to get more aether from your reserves than you have can potentially ignite your very life blood, and in the worst case burn you alive from the inside out. (this is shown with black magic moreso than Thaumaturgy, however the principle is the same: too little aether you can safely work with coupled with trying to use too much to manipulate a spell = disaster for the caster, and a painful death.
  • The Ossuary houses the order of nald'thal, and assists souls into Thal's realm. Thal does not only measure wealth in money, but in everything that the soul leaves behind in our world when passing on into his on their dying breath. This includes food, housing, gil, clothes, livestock, and anything else of value that you can't take with you into the after life.

Order of nald'thal.png

(The following is information I have gathered on the Thaumaturges guild and the Order of Nald'thal from 1.0. a WIP for now!)

  • Thaumaturges working with the Order are protected by the Order against vengeance deeds and wills, such as when a Thaumaturge exacts revenge on who or what had killed someone unnaturally and that now dead persons will requested vengeance, the Thaumaturge that executed them is protected from another coming after them in turn.
  • Stated above, Thaumaturges of the ossuary will go through with vengeance wills for the Order of Nald'thal, and by taking on the burden of hatred and anger from the soul, it will be able to be at peace in Thal's realm. Compensation must me made in writing in the will before death for the deed to be carried out, as no payment will get services dismissed.
  • Limsa is known for not liking the Order of Nald'thal, and it's hard to give them funeral rites because so many of them are lost at sea and without a corpse you can't really hold a proper funeral that the Order and Ossuary promises.
  • All Thaumaturges under the Order must answer to it's laws, and can be executed by the Order if it comes to that. (such as murder, where a thaumaturge kills another outside of a vengeance will.)
  • Your virtue is a measure of your very exsistence – your birth and station, childhood and (womanhood/manhood), knowledge and wisdom, power and wealth. Do not think wealth to be limited to the monetary. Wealth, to the Order, consists of all things a soul leaves behind when it departs this realm.
  • Arrzaneth Ossuary guides its followers that they might leave as much in their wake as possible.
  • The following is an example of a vengeance order: “My last will and testament… I hereby leave one third of my total estate to the Order of Nald’thal of the Arrzaneth Ossuary. In return for this consideration, I humbly request that my death be avenged should my days be cut short by unnatural causes.”
  • (to be continued, I will be writing down all the dialogue from the quests as well as I find them and linking a post here about it! Thank you for your patience)

Naoh'ra is skilled in Thaumaturgy, and considers himself to be one of the more competent users. However, he chooses not to use it in combat as much as he can, though when worst comes to worst and he's forced he will not hesitate.

He has a superb sense of hearing and scent, and pretty touch and go balance. He only has good vision in the pitch darkness of night, however, and any bright lights at all, even when exposed for long periods of time hurts his eyes and he can't see a thing.

He is pitiful in hand to hand combat and can be easily overtaken should anyone come after him, and he's quite easy to catch off guard when he is not actively engaged with something that calls for alertness, such as hunting. When working/studying, he can be easily startled.

Botany.png

Naoh'ra has recently taken up learning Botany, and can be caught with the gathering log wherever he goes. He isn't taking it too seriously, it being more of a hobby than a job much unlike his Thaumaturgy. He has learned quite a bit about the local flora of his clans home, though he felt a drive to learn more about Eorzea as a whole so he can be on the look out for interesting things to pick up and sell while he travels from place to place for work.

So far, he has taken to it quite well and hopes to refine his craft and replace hunting for food all together with just gathering.

11naoh.png

Positive:

  • Mhastoum Greingohtsyn: A wonderful friend to him, that he has not seen for some time but still holds very dear. He is facinated by his ears, and when he gets the change he often plays with them.
  • Aran'sae Dia: A good friend to him and at one time the person of his affections, though unreturned. He misses Aran'sae's company, but has come to terms with him not being around and assumes he must be home or busy with his duties as a Hearer.
  • Amadiaux Begnaud: The moon to his skies, and the joy to his days, he met the Elezen by chance in the Shroud while he was charging moonstone under Menphina. He quickly found that, and believes 100% that the divine lovers themselves brought them together, and has found an incredible connection and love with him. He is almost angry that they hadn't met sooner.
  • Bahati Pashto: He ran into the Keeper woman shortly within Amadiaux's home after waking there. They spoke for a while and he finds her to be very learned and kind, and feels refreshed to have met a keeper who still holds tradition and strays from the cities. She painted his face for him and he proudly wears the tiny stars until he must repaint. Because of this, he feels a kinship and happiness being around her, and hopes he can hear stories of her travels.
  • Rhuya'to Viqqoh: He met this keeper not long ago when he got himself stuck in a leg trap in the Shroud. Rhuya'to allowed him to his living space where Naoh'ra was allowed to meet his children and they have been friends since. After a confession of love from Rhuya'to, Naoh'ra hadn't seen him for a time before confronting him about it and they have decided to just be friends.
  • Mipije Papije: A good friend of Naoh'ras, who taught and inspired him to read and write and seek out knowledge like no other. He also gave him a little ice box to carry his food in and he adores it. Serious, it's so useful!
  • Nathaniel of Salem: Works with him under the Order of Nald'thal, as they are both priests. They are good friends and he thinks of them as being on good terms and they get along quite well. Naoh'ra feels a sense of kinship between them and holds him in high regard.

Neutral:

  • C'sanhsa Tia: He used to not like C'sanhsa that much but he hardly knows him or sees him around so he's fairly neutral about him as a whole. Serious, he hardly knows anything about him, so he has taken a more relaxed approach to him. He wishes to mend their friendship, and wants to be some significant part of his life despite how he had treated him before.
  • Pimrhi Dia: No longer uncomfortable around her, he has found an odd peace in her presence. He wishes to see her more often, and give her the care that she obviously needs.
  • Sven Volkorus: Bumped into him and got talking and hunting in the shroud with him. He gets along with him fairly well for the fact they are both dads. That's about it for now, but he does hope they can talk more.

Negative:

  • K'ovu Tia: Dude literally stole his leg and blew it up with a firework, calls him names and kicks his crutches out from under him, then stabbed him once. Naoh'ra dislikes him greatly.
  • S'imba Tia: He doesn't like him, but a good bit of gil to pretend to be his master to help him escape some group? Sure! Money's money.

15naoh.png

Naoh'ra lost his left leg from the mid thigh down about 2 years ago. He used to have a prosthetic that he'd cover with loose pants, however K'ovu blew it up and he has not had the will or the funds to get a new one made. This generally gets in the way of him being able to keep up with others, and he has a hard time with balance without his cane. Often he will joke about his missing leg, though he does not tolerate others joking about it.

He suffers from chronic pain where his leg ends, and when it is bad he can be completely incapacitated for a day and remain in bed. Often it isn't more than a dull pain, but when it hurts, it hurts.

16naoh.png

  • Naoh'ra speaks very slowly, and speaks the river dialect created by Pimrhi Dia as well as the common tongue around Eorzea. He mostly speaks the common tongue, but has been using the language more often and it's speech patterns have started to seep into his usual talk. His tone is usually a mix between the dialect as well as what he believes Menphina would sound like.
  • He stares a lot; he just doesn't blink as often as others might.
  • He collects moonstones and rocks that look like the moon and puts them around Menphina's stone when he goes to visit.
  • Naoh'ra finds a special comfort with ice, often even sleeping with a bag or box of it or ice crystals to keep cool.
  • He had recently tried to create weapons that could bring thaumaturgy to other combat classes, but ultimately failed.
  • Naoh'ra has a very hard time walking without his prosthetic, and mostly resorts to an odd hopping with the help of a cane. He has a new prosthetic now, however he still uses his cane and does not put much pressure on the leg.
  • He tends to be very quiet and tries his best to not make much noise with either his voice or movements, as Priestess Mamane is very strict about it in the THM guild.
  • Naoh'ra sometimes has the tendency to 'burst into flame' when he's startled, the fright often sparking his fingers and on reflex he often either goes to throw fire or actually does, having once burnt off someones eyebrows and incinerated his cane in separate instances.
  • Naoh'ra wears the same coloured face paints as his mother used to wear, though uses purples when looking for a mate, and deep reds made from crushed Soldier's Sore berries when going into battle.
  • He gets irritated when others shorten his name to Naoh, as he feels that it is taking away his identity as a without that prefex others are referring to his mother. It is also an insult to call him by 'Ra', as it takes the mother completely out of his identity and removes him from her good graces.
  • The majority of his teeth are pointed, making chewing food difficult. So, he usually swallows food whole.

17naoh.png

Naoh'ra had once craved romance and emotional relationships, though he had never had sexual feelings toward others until recently. Even in mating he was never sexually interested in his partners passed the superficial. Only recently had he discovered that he was just not attracted to women when he was trying to be, and found more drawn to men in every way he had tried. He is still coming to terms with this, and feels wrong for it and will continue to presue women for child bearing, though he has given up trying to find romance with them as well.
