More than once Onuma has considered putting this scornful spitfire in her place.

Character

General

Onuma is a miqo'te that lived on the outskirts of Gridania prior to the Calamity. She was one of a family of three that lived somewhere in the southern thickets of the Black Shroud, but since that time she is the only surviving member. Thinking she lost everything, she moved to the harsh desert region of Thanalan to try to start her life anew. When she arrived at Ul'dah, she had little but the clothing on her back, two throwing knives and a few mint currencies of gil on her person.

Nearly four cycles later, she is now making a fairly earned name for herself amongst the merchants and has been seen as a threat to competitors for her goods. Despite being renown for her efforts in the marketing business, she began to spread her goals elsewhere and took up arms against the guerrilla warfare executed by the Amal'jaa, and soon became a familiar face on the most traveled trade routes of Thanalan. In this span of time, she traveled everywhere to both learn and spread her capabilities. She now uses those learned skills to live comfortably.

She has since moved on to other things, engaging her endeavors to be a free-reign Paladin from the Sultansworn. She has yet to feel she has reached that status in full, but given her time with her newly founded friends she believes she will learn what it is she is missing.

Appearance

Onuma stands tall for a miqo'te woman, a full five fulm, four ilm in height. Her stature is largely unimposing to the other races, but among her peers she could be considered intimidating for this trait. Her black hair is roughly chopped by the nape of her neck and often mussed, owing to her the appearance of a woman who is more concerned about finishing her work than looking fashionable and pretty. She has a pair of large, expressive amber eyes that seem to play a large role in firing up her ghostly white face. Her lion-like tail is long and thick; it is often an indicative measure in which, much like her ragged ears, it expresses her feelings strongest when animated.

She prefers dark colors over vibrant ones, and for that matter is hardly seen without her armor or weapons nearby. On the rare occasion, though, she will attempt to dress up, often in two parts reluctance to not look like the laziness she feels.

==
Behavior
== Onuma can be approachable, but more often than not shies away from interaction with others. Her attention is almost always set on the task at hand, whatever that may be, and this can be mistaken for an unwillingness to converse with someone and a lack of awareness for her surroundings.

On a social level, given the direction a conversation takes, she may display a sense of trust. Onuma can be agreeable if not respectful and, provided the opportunity, will at least attempt to connect a bridge of understanding between herself and another person. On the other hand, she is guarded about a great many things and, if provoked, has a tendency for bullheaded acts that can easily lead to an unhealthy amount of confrontation.

She isn't well known for having a great control over her emotions and this may lead her to project an icy, reticent attitude or, at her worst, talk with her blade instead.

Combat
==

While Onuma has an understanding of the aether, she has yet to tap into her connection with it further than her ability to mend wounds and balancing the elements. She is far better at picking up how to learn weaponry, and above all else has honed in on her ability to wield a blade. More or less, she trusts herself more when in the arms of a sharp object and something to block projectiles with over a focus.

Friends

:Lotan'to Jiub - Onuma was slow to warm up to this male Keeper the first time they met in Gridania. She was carrying too many goods, and he was too quick to treat her as if they were long-time friends. He was calm and rational, and she fiery and impulse-driven. But eventually as time and occupations allowed, their friendship bloomed into something more. He became her traveling companion, her sole friend and, eventually, her mate. She has never once met with regret on that decision; the two are almost never seen without each other. Lately she has become worried over his esteem, as he tends to fall into self-doubt far more often than she can anticipate, and he obsesses constantly over his duties - to himself, to her, and the group. His vulnerability at times can leave Onuma wondering if she's not doing something right. She harbors what might become an unnecessary fear over his well-being.
Y'lyfriel Sikah - Initially skeptical of her being anything more than an ensorcelled halfwit chasing after an uninterested man, Onuma was surely fooled as she spoke with this sunseeker and pages unfolded over her character. She was nothing if not faithful, devoted to her closest friends and headstrong. Her intelligence is something Onuma admires, and were they ever to be in a dangerous situation, she would have no qualms in placing her life in Y'lyfriel's hands. She hopes to someday learn all that Y'lyfriel has to share and, if she can keep up, hopes to do the same. With the declaration of their sisterly connection, Onuma has been washed with nothing but good feelings for the future. Nothing can stop them from where they're going now, and Onuma will make it known that they are family, one in the same. She is proud to have that intimate title as sister.
Rhesh'ir Zhwan - Onuma did not like this male at first. He was fidgety, he was dodgy and evasive, and he was more than happy to throw her for a loop by running away so much. It drove her batty, and were it not for Lotan'to and Y'lyfriel's help she had a most difficult time reeling in her explosive anger because of it. Now that time has passed, he is still fidgety and dodgy, but perhaps with more understanding on her behalf. Despite how many times they've butted heads, she would like to think that he and her are friends, if for no other reason than because she would prefer he live a free life than be weighed down by shackling history. She has much to learn from him, and whether or not she cares to admit it, Rhesh'ir has a way of enlightening her in the most humbling - and humiliating - ways. She hasn't been entirely ignorant of this charm that Rhesh'ir exudes either, though she might be caught up in a hundred other thoughts or emotions at any given time. He has a way of stopping her in her speeding tracks by surprising her at every corner.
Tahla'li Tayuun - Their first encounter with each other was volatile. He was happy to call her stupid, idiotic, and whatever else from the insult book he probably took them from. She accused him of being a poacher the very first night she followed them, after having hunted an antelope for their meal. For a time she thought of Tahla'li as little more than an angst-filled brat, but when he disappeared one night and hadn't returned, she knew she had an inkling of care. Since that time, she's ambitious to give any chance she has at making an effort to build a bridge between the two of them. A delicate relationship, if it ever were one, but there are things about Tahla'li that she appreciates. She hasn't spoken to him much lately.
X'linwh Tia - To this day Onuma is still flipping a gil coin over this boy. Sometimes he shows promise in learning, other times he can be as dumb as a dodo. What she does know is that he has a great deal of care with his friends, and she could never say he has shown indifference to that. There hasn't been a day that's gone by that she doesn't think about how differently she could have gone about dealing with his Tempered tribe, and she's no closer to reaching a solution than she was first dealing with the aftermath of their execution. She can only hope that, now that he is sharing words with her, that they can gradually come to an understanding with each other and bury the bad feelings they harbor over the devastation.
Rah'na Lihzeh - Onuma had no visual standing with this kit until they began to speak more, and now that they have, she's happy to have done so. He is still a might bit squeamish, but she can come to understanding with it a lot more than she did before. While one of the youngest and maybe not the most fated for combat, she still sees him as a more than welcome member to the family, and possesses some maternal instinct over him whether or not she realizes it.
Kodaro Ba'rococo - Of the younger miqo'te, Kodaro is among Onuma's most favored. They've not spoken more than a few times, but each one they did have was something else; special. He shares a lot of ambitions that she can understand, and though she worries for his safety at times, she finds him the most promising. There are questions she reserves about his upbringing, but she feels it better to hold those back until he decides to share it one day.
Surilian Blu - Much time has passed with Suri's absence, and over that span of time Onuma has come to learn a great deal about the girl, both in her actions and from others who have spoken with her more. Some heart felt connections have brought her closer now, and before she left for La Noscea, Onuma made the leap to finally connect the bridge between the two of them. The attack has been put behind her, and things appear to be looking up for the two of them. Like Rah'na, Onuma has begun to feel a maternal instinct over her, regardless of if she wishes to recognize it or not. It is a new feeling entirely, much like a doorway opening in her heart.
Dawson Colwell - After a tender moment brought them to talk, Onuma has warmed up greatly to the conjurer and even displays trust in his words. She has put their earlier strifes behind her and opened up her heart to the Hyur, as they've come to share a history that may be more similar than they initially would have thought.
U'dahsh'a Nunh - Onuma certainly cannot express her true feelings over this sunseeker. On the one hand, he has been proven helpful to her. On the other hand, he infuriates her with his incessant need to chase after Suri. Is it a slight that he leaves at last minute, or is it simply him proving incapable of seeing the way of things with clarity?
C'aehli Ira - Once Rhesh'ir was free and Onuma had a chance to speak with Caes more, she finds her a kindred spirit of sorts. There are things she keeps at bay, and topics she is more than happy to give a wide berth. But there's something about her that Onuma can't place, and that something is her relationship with people in general. Is it that she doesn't want to forge a strong bond, or has Onuma mistaken this connection as being little more than a business opportunity? Whatever it may be, Onuma wishes to be proven wrong and build a friendship with her.
Vesna Novaar - There was a moment of rocky feelings that Onuma indirectly caused with her manner of speech when introducing Vesna to the others, so when Lotan'to chastised her over it and reminded her that her jests can be taken wrongly, Onuma felt some guilt when she realized she had hurt Vesna. This was quickly turned on her when Vesna and Caes both tricked her into trying a potent alcoholic beverage, and since that time Onuma felt the pain she gave -- in another sense. It was not a good feeling, but since then Onuma believes they have moved past it. Hopefully. Only time will tell.
Ansgar Broadhaft - One of Onuma's very first friends. They met when she was out traveling on the fields, away from Ul'dah. She was completely quiet at the time, consumed in her thoughts. This made it easy for Ansgar to perceive it as him being the problem, but she was quick to assure him as the proverbial ice melted and the two of them began a quiet friendship. They were content to walk silently and connect through body language, but when it came to civilization, he was the more talkative of the two. She hasn't seen the man since the incident that left him with one ruined eye.
Totoko Toko - Onuma has thoroughly become ensorcelled by this Ul'dahn native. She possesses a quiet inner strength, a strong and intimate knowledge of herself, and she has a way of doing things that make life seem simple and easy. Onuma can appreciate this a great deal, and the fact that she is much like Dawson in her inquiries and outlook both put her in a mystical spotlight. She is happy to get to know Totoko further. Maybe she can also save Lin's rat before it's too late, too!
Mijisaa Qisaa - One of two lalafellin people that Onuma was constantly being told about. Now that she's met her in person, she can say that Mijisaa certainly matches a description, however brief. She is vastly intelligent despite her humble persona, and Onuma has a feeling that this particular lalafell knows a great deal more than she lets off. Onuma's taken some notice as to the woman's impatience, and sometimes it shows in a fleeting glare of the eye. This sometimes unnerves her.
Pipituu Kipichuu - One of two lalafellin people that Onuma was told about. Now that she's met him in person, she's fascinated by his ability to tinker and bring his masterworks to life. She hopes to learn more about his career, and from that endeavors to pick up on the knowledge for herself one day. His honesty to once being a thief has befuddled Onuma over his character.
Nazyl Tharazyl - Onuma can't quite find a way to properly thank this strangely spoken lalafell, but she's happy to have finally found her - and Lotan'to's - savior. He may not be much to look at with his small and largely unimposing stature, and he may be more of a farmer's boy than she first anticipated, but she's quick to warm to the idea of training him into partnership, not to mention learn more about the quiet life he used to live. She's also noticed his great connection with Suri, and that strengthened her resolve to talk to the girl. For this she has him to thank, too. He has surprised her with his determination to prove Alex's innocence, and thus far has been, to Onuma's admittance, no small reason as to her allowing the thief a second chance.
Oriel Durand - Onuma doesn't know him well enough to make an accurate judgement of his character just yet, but she found this Keeper male to be friendly enough, if a little quiet. He has a way of making her feel like she isn't the only one who views Lin's inspirations as strange (and more than a little dangerous). Though she's hired him as a helping hand, she does hope to learn more about Oriel over this span of time.
L'mila Lania - Onuma met this young miqo'te at the same time she met Tyago. Though vastly uncultured and unlearned of the world, Onuma doesn't believe her to be completely helpless. There is a way to teach when there's a will to learn, after all, and so far Mila has not shown her otherwise.
Sizha'to Chalahko - Onuma hasn't known the male Keeper for very long, though she met him through X'linwh and found him decidedly pleasant. About Lin's age, she discovered, but he and the Sunseeker are malms apart in personality. She finds him a curiosity, despite. He's an intelligent sort, and though Gridanian, she feels as though there is a connection between them, small as it might be for the moment. She's eager to learn more about this new friend.
Oliwat Kokiwat - When Onuma met this wordy lalafell, she thought him to have a deathwish as he'd scurry off right into the fields of danger. After speaking with him, though, she found him spry and interesting. Not only because he is a journalist, but because of the mammet that willingly followed him every step of the way. Supposedly, she's heard it contains many a gadget prepared for nigh any situation. Whether or not that's true, she hasn't seen yet for herself.

Enemies & Other Characters

Solelle Frilaix - Onuma was wary of the elezen following the caravan when the group departed for Coerthas. But as she settled to speak with her and Lotan'to over the journey, and mentions of Rahn'a and Chesh'ir's tribe was had, Onuma came to accept her -- to a point. Just from one meeting, Onuma witnessed a good judge of character. But she hasn't seen from beyond, and that, she hopes, will tell her who Solelle truly is. To her, to the group -- everyone.
Chesh'ir Lihzeh - Rah'na's cousin. Onuma finds him wholly different to Rah'na; two people completely opposite of lifestyle and personality. He has surprised Onuma on a few occasions, as his nature borderlines a romantic view on the world, and at times can be brash or seemingly uncaring of possible threats, as observed at Highbridge. She finds him strange, to say the least. But that isn't bad!
Alex Castell - After learning about Alex's origins and the truth behind her being with the group, Onuma has decided to relent on her judgements over the hyur girl. The Keeper has come to believe that if she can prove her otherwise good intentions, then she will no longer view the girl as a threat upon her family. Thus far, some small talk has lessened her aggression and she has let up on the oppressive hawk-eye.
Kalulu Morusu (NPC) - Onuma's maidservant. She's a lalafell with a whiplash tongue and has no ends to her wit and banter. She's lived in Ul'dah all her life, but while some may think that unfortunate, Onuma fast discovered Kalulu had no end of lessons to teach. She utilizes them on a daily basis, and it's astounding just how much she can pass for a noblewoman. Needless to say, though, the mi'qote would be lying if she said she didn't prefer her to stay where she can keep an eye on her.
Mutton (NPC) - Onuma's other retainer. He's a big, burly Hellsguard that takes it upon himself to be the 'guard' of the family when they're within a City-state, usually employing himself as a handy escort if not to be an available hand. Onuma grew fond of him the moment he opened his mouth. He can be grumpy, and he can certainly be mouthy, but no one could say he wasn't passionate about his duties; especially when he gets to enjoy his dreams as a cook, having been a student at the Bismarck. Of course, his mouth has sometimes gotten him into trouble, too.
Tyago Dolabnha - Though Onuma hasn't spoken much with her since their days spent at the Quicksand, she found this Keeper female to be overall friendly, if a little aloof. Onuma thinks she has a whole world stuck in her wardrobe, seeing as Tyago dresses herself in fine clothes at every corner, it seems.
Raging Sun - A beast of a roegadyn that Onuma is not inclined to get along with. Insofar, each meeting they've had has turned into a clashing battle of personalities. Onuma believes this woman is so far lost on this idealistic road of self-righteousness and zealotry that her arrogance knows no bounds, and it grates on the miqo'te terribly. More than once Onuma has considered putting this scornful spitfire in her place.

Rarely Overheard Rumours
"Her friend came back one night, lookin' like a bleedin' maimed corpse. Not sure what happened to 'em, what havin' not seen 'em since he lost his eye, but people 'round here be whisperin' about her. Say she did it." - Passing Adventurer in Gridania
"Her pop and kid died shortly after hell rained from the sky. Coincidentally, so did a party of four Wood Wailers. Of course, no one knows what happened that day, but sometimes I wonder when I see her in the city. Who knows; there's still a missing man out there." Gridanian Resident
Player Character Rumours

"She is the greatest! She's smart, and pretty and I bet she holds alot more secrets then I do. I will grow up to be just like her and one day I'm so going to ask about those secrets. But for now I'll just hide over here and watch her." -Surilian Blu

"Her? She's a sorry excuse of a blade maiden. But then again I can see talent there. And her clothing colors are all so wrong. Waste I say! Tragic waste. But I suppose it could be worse. But then again we have something in common...I can smell it." -Liana Blu

"No one gets it done like Onuma. Her fervor is part of what makes her such a valuable friend and ally. She's all work and no play, though, and often, it shows." -Dawson Colwell

"Onuma? I can't quite confirm it, but I've heard musings that her mercenary work has the makings of myth. She and Lotan'to even assaulted a Garlean garrison alone, if the rumors ring true." -Kodaro Ba'rococo

"She sounds a leader, looks a leader. She and her lover. I don't know how she fell in with this troupe, but I feel safe with my back to her, at least. Again, my expectations are shaken, in what to expect from a Moonkeeper. Also, she wears a warrior's armor; I am not eager to fall in her ill favor." -Solelle Frilaix

"Since Y'adebh was taken from me, I'd not thought to have a family, again. Not like that. Onuma has proven to be a sister born apart from me, and I shall do all in my power to honour this sentiment. Knowing I've someone I might confide in....certain, such a circumstance as our meeting must be significant." -Y'lyfriel Sikah

"First impression? She's a Warrior, through and through. Now, though? I'm not so sure that's all there is to her. Time will tell, I guess." -Alex Castell
